  1. I originally got the inspiration from Cale he had a Barnhart loader with claw attachment, if I remember correctly on the layout in BrickWorld Chicago (moving scrap) Immediately it reminded me of the log loaders so after the better part of a year I got the idea down in brick... Well digital brick lol.
  2. Nice I love it!
  3. I'm wanting to have it built this year... But I have five trains and a yard to build this year so.... Thanks I'm excited to see yours!
  4. I for one think we need more renders of just the chimneys! There's a ton of great detailing in this. The pond is an interesting touch as well. About the only thing I don't like is the way you connected the oxen. I would have rather seen a headlight brick used and a small bar connection with clips to lower the hitching system
  5. The building itself is amazing but the detail you included with the whole process is fantastic. I have a soft spot for this build... Great depiction.
  6. I'm assuming it will be push powered lmao
  7. The Cass scenic railroad is a neat place! Steam cranes have always fascinated me. Oddly enough it seems more of the American loggers have survived than the barnharts. Thanks ... Snot frame tiled on the side the main structure is sandwiched to hold it all together. Loggers were a very creative bunch anything to get the job done. Thank you... It never ceases to amaze me how "small" our Lego world really is and how much we all inspire each other Thank you Im glad the details didn't go unnoticed! Those reasons mentioned are all what drew me to his model. I have a thing about trains having to move under their own power.
  8. No worries I'm actually glad you did because for the life of me I could not remember the original designer. I had been trying to reverse engineer his design and in the process came across the file of it Murdock shared... Which saved me a lot of work honestly. Plus I loved seeing the working valves (something I wanted as all I had seen was static running gear). I've always loved the way the logging was done in WV, VA, TN, KY they mostly used mules to pull the logs to the tracks Some interesting reading
  9. Yes thank you I edited the post... I actually had seen his first and couldn't remember who lol. . Honestly Murdock did not change much at all in his lxf. I mostly stylized it as the running gear remained unchanged mostly. I also used his side wall construction because I liked how it afforded wood paneled interior in the caboose however it got major rework from what he had. He wasn't the original but he made the file available. My issue was in its form it's a north western with large hard wood. Apalachicola never saw such large trees so I had to devise a new method to hide the battery. Thanks guys!
  10. So there was a Logging company in WV that logged a place called Lilly Fork - They ran Shays, Amarican Log Loaders and a Bobber Work Car. I was impressed with the consist and decided to build my own. The Shay has been shared on here before ( Stephen Pakbaz as seen here was the original designer but Murdock shared the lxf I used) so it is a Mod of a Moc but the rest is my own work with techniques borrowed from one place or the other, The log loader hides (not very well) the battery The flat cars all had rails for the log loader to run on - they would set a short set of rails for the loader to cross from car to car The crew would ride in the caboose where there was a stove to warm Comments and Criticisms are welcomed
  11. The vaults kinda cool!
  12. Feels more of a City Hall but we'll done with the details and the layout
  13. I think in this they are "using" the coaster track to simulate a monorail setup. A little imagination goes a long way here.
  14. This is a good little scene... Is there a lever connected to the windows to make em drop? I keep putting off my gallows build lol perhaps I should finish it.
  15. That's some great features in the vignette there! But an impressive sorry I look forward to seeing where it goes.
  16. What a fine looking mod... I wonder if a different brand of battery would last longer... My Bosh drill batteries last quite a while... A regulator would need used as they are 18v but run to me would definitely be longer. Perhaps shedding the skin would save space on the deWalts? We always want to see trains around here! PS. I love that you call the parts by their actual use/function lol
  17. No just another window and a pain in mobile lol
  18. I try to aim for 80-150 usd when building a engine not sure the conversion to € currently.
  19. I for one am very interested in this. Where abouts in MI... I'm near Ft Wayne IN. I'm impressed with your portfolio of designs... Hopefully it will transfer over to Lego easily. You will find some are squeamish about modifying Lego. Generally if it sticks with the general "idea" and "spirit" of Lego it can be overlooked by most. I personally don't disassemble trains once they are built. So If I modify something on one I'm OK with it.
  20. Pictures or it didn't happen lol... Seriously got a link to the project?
  21. Not if you snot it to the side of a building.... And only use the top rail lol
  22. Black looks good on this unit. Well done sir
  23. Thanks! Unfortunately the interior is made up of angular plates. I have filled all gaps in the boiler with brick so she's not hollow. I'm hoping it will do alright seeing as the holiday train is lighter (less bricks) and pulls about the same no issue... The open cars are pretty light weight lol. I'm looking forward to it as well! But then it might miss a pump lol I will keep that in mind should the current set up not work out so well so thanks!
  24. That is exactly how we ran it at our December show - with some customized wagons - you'll find the rotating tree robs some power from it, however if you can run it on 9V its even better because you can rid the ugly battery box all together and have a load of coal! the 9V wheels look great on it and it doesn't care that the tree rotates.
  25. So I figured I would share my "story" of the zoo train. One of the couples in my LUG have a lovely zoo layout they display. In chats we have talked how they want to add a rail way to their layout and include a train with excursion cars. Well one night I felt inspired and designed a open car. well you have to have something to pull it so … while looking through light rail photos I came across a photo of a CP Huntington. My mind said that looks familiar - so I pull up the Holiday Train … Huh pretty close. I remember seeing this thing at our local zoo so I search photos of the local zoo train and what do ya know its a CP Huntington. So I originally recolored the holiday train but was not happy with it because "steam trains should have RODS!" so a search brought me to "THIS" thread. I went through the trouble of verifying the colors in brick and amassing a bricklink order. luckily I didn't pull the plug that night and buy the bricks lol. as I'm looking at this I say … its not right … the zoo train is smaller. So I build it smaller and in its correct configuration (Tender attached). While fairly happy with the rough draft I could not get it easily motorized and looking right. So I go back to the Holiday train . . . I pulled the front end off and reworked the rear then installed the Battery box on board like the real CP. so now I have a full sized engine that I'm happy with. However it wont track around curves as I cant go around standard Lego curves its useless to me … a redesign of the rear truck was in order. The tender actually swings out away from the track in a curve now with a double jointed system keeping the rear truck inline. I will know how well this works once assembled in brick but its no different than other truck designs I've seen here however as its not driven by the actual Driving wheels and instead by the front truck (MOTOR) I think it should be ok. Also I reworked the last cars on the first two to include the rear facing seat that is popular at a few of the larger surrounding zoos. All three have a similar boiler arrangement. … And Just for Posterity here's all three. I kept the reworked Caboose cause its "cute" even though I wont run it. I know I mentioned in the other thread but This will be Powered Up driven the PF battery is just a place holder! there is a channel under the floor board and a slot just in front of the battery for the motor wire to come up through and be plugged in. Thanks for viewing comments and criticisms are welcomed! Update! A member of my LUG expressed interest in this train as I had not built it yet. So I figured I would share a couple of WIP shots ... They are waiting fora BL order for the azure pieces and a couple other parts so some of the pieces are just place holders.
