10305 Lion Knights' Castle 90th anniversary set
Warbinator replied to R0Sch's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I'm glad I picked up three of the "white falcons" myself over the weekend. There were none in the bins but the grabbed three from the back for me. I asked about them again today and they said they were all out, so I made do with a cowboy and pirate with a couple of extra shields. The grey helmets aren't a great match, I agree. Fairly generic. I would have preferred black to match the other falcons, or even white to really accentuate the difference. I do like the grey/black dual molded legs though. Those look great.- 2,976 replies

I was pleasantly surprised to find that the Forest Hideout GWP was still available at the Lego Store in Tukwila today when I picked up the castle. So that makes five for me. :-) One already built and expanded to recreate the Camouflaged Outpost, two to modify and build a new version of the River Fortress, one to build standard, and one to hold on to as a collector's item.

Modern Lego models usually include an assortment of bright colored bricks in the internals. It make it easier to build when you're not having to distinguish bricks that are the same color. Usually those bricks are colors like orange, teal, or pink, among others. But for this set, they deliberately kept the colors limited to red, yellow, blue, etc. as a nod to the original color palette available at the time the original set was released.

Picked up the castle this morning and I was pleasantly surprised that the Forest Hideout GWP was still in stock, so I got another one of those as well. This was at the store in Tukwila, WA.- 2,976 replies

That looks great! A very good match for the Lion Knight's Castle. I'm torn about displaying the new castle alongside last year's Blacksmith Shop. The Blacksmith looks great, but it's as tall as the castle and seems way out of proportion.- 2,976 replies

I'm surprised that the tiled logo piece here is controversial. I'm really excited about it, and it will be great for a huge variety of MOCs. The slopes are limiting in that they always have to be placed at an angle, but a tile can be placed vertically on the side of a craft, placed flat on a wing, or in just about any conceivable configuration. This opens up a lot of options for versatile uses of the logo.

Thanks! I think I'm going to try and pick up two more copies of the set and combine those along with parts I have on hand to build a Forest River Fortress updated build as well.
-
I thought folks might be interested to see the Camouflaged Outpost that I built using a copy of the Hideout set (along with a good amount of bricks from my existing collection). I tried to follow the same style as the Hideout, sticking close to the original dimensions and appearance but using updated parts and build techniques. I'm really happy with how it turned out.

Fantastic little ship! I’m looking forward to seeing the rest of your build.

I like that a lot!! I might finally have to break down and buy this set.

Looks a lot better. The enlarged jowls is what has kept me from buying this set. What pieces did you remove and what pieces did you add to replace them?

75292 The Razor Crest – MODs and improvements
Warbinator replied to MAG85's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I've made a bunch of mods to my Razor Crest inspired by the great work in this thread that I wanted to share. https://imgur.com/gallery/h0d3GHn Changes include rebuilding the nose to make it slightly narrower, adding flight controls and additional consoles to the cockpit, making more room to the cockpit and adding custom seats, rebuilding the cockpit canopy for a smoother appearance and to be removable as a single piece, adding a ladder, gun rack, toilet, and some additional machinery adjacent to the sleeping quarters, removing the spring-fire lasers, reshaping detail and recoloring the top of the ship, building new landing gear, and building a display stand modeled after the stand for the UCS Slave 1. This is a work in progress. I still plan to make some changes to the engines and to add some additional detail to the main cargo hold.- 110 replies

Marvel Superheroes 2019 - Rumours, Speculation & Discussion
Warbinator replied to Anonknee Muss's topic in LEGO Licensed
So I took a closer look at the trailers and two suits are shown, one which is the Mk 4 War Machine suit from Infinity War and the other is new. It's the new one that gets the paint job to look like the other Quantum Realm suits, but there are a couple of shots where you can see the unpainted version of it. You can tell the difference between them because the Mk 4 has a 5-sided arc reactor while the QR/Mk 5 has a six-sided reactor like the Mk3 did. If you want to build a purist War Machine Mk 5, you might consider using the QR helmet with the Mk 3 chest and a different set of legs. -
I want sets based on Captain America, The First Avenger. Specifically, the Hydra vehicles including the six-wheeled roadster, the submarine, and the fighter plane with the giant rear propeller.

What do you want to use it for? If you mean for display alongside the other War Machine suits, I'm using the minifig with the quantum suit for now. In the trailer we see War Machine suited up in what appears to be his typical armor with a quantum paint job along the other Avengers, including Tony, in their quantum suits, so this minifig might end up being the closest we get to a complete version of this armor. Obviously this could change once the film is released, as the Russo brothers have been known to alter character appearances in the trailers to avoid spoilers. (Thor with/without an eyepatch, Hulk rather than the Hulkbuster in Wakanda.) -

The suits that I want the most at this point are Mk 2 (which would double for War Machine Mk1), Mk3 and Mk4, just because I feel like it would be nice to have the first five lined up on the first level of my Hall of Armor. After those three, I'd really like to see the Mk22 "Hot Rod" armor, which is the one with red arms and red legs with flames. It is also the armor that War Machine Mk2 is based on. If you plan on stacking up the bays in the Hall of Armor, I would consider making the bay for Igor exactly two bays tall so that it would line up with the height of the the rest of them along the top. I like this idea and look forward to seeing your final build! -

I wanted to share my attempt to improve the Mk 38 "Igor" armor. Unlike a lot of folks, I didn't think that the original design was completely terrible, but it certainly left a lot of room for improvement. I didn't think it was necessary to make the build accomodate a minifig, so removing that requirement opens up some options for a more accurate torso build. The head tilts upwards so that it can face forward when the suit is in its typical hunched over position. The arms and legs are largely unchanged, with an extra bracket and tile added to the thighs to make them a little less spindly, and I used the large curved bricks for the shins to cover up the knee joint a bit. For the arms I brought the shoulders in to make them a bit more narrow and I modified them slightly. For the lower arms I extended the forearm plating to be a better match for the original. Overall I think that the build is a little bit better of a representation of the dimensions of the actual suit while still retaining the look of the official design. -
[Compilation] How to Collect All LEGO Iron Man.
Warbinator replied to kaelthas's topic in LEGO Licensed
I made a similar list of all of the different suits, except I was more interested in how they compared to the source material than which sets to find them in. Anyway, this might be helpful to some. https://imgur.com/a/JvQQZWg -
/u/knux400 posted his hip and leg mods today on reddit.
-
I put together a parts list for my mods and posted it on reddit. It comes in at about 150 additional pieces needed to make these changes.
-
Nice work. I also considered using the Juniors hood piece, or the printed tiles from the Iron Man Brickhead, when I was making modifications to the UCS-style Hulkbuster.

I've completed my mods to the shoulders, torso and legs. You can view the pictures here: https://imgur.com/a/JcXR9 Every change was designed to make it more screen accurate. The changes are mostly cosmetic, not structural. I did not add articulation or change the internal structure of anything. I modified the upper arms to add a new connection point for the shoulder pauldrons. I built the pauldrons to be a lot more screen accurate and to remove the need for the blue pins. The pauldrons lift up in order to make room to raise the arms all the way horizontal. I modified the upper legs to be a little bit thicker and to add the greebles on the outside of the legs in place of the grey curved plate. Additionally, the reference photos show a smooth inner thigh, so I replaced the inner thigh pieces with a small car hood piece. The most extensive modifications are to the torso. I moved the hips to the lower part of the torso that connects to the legs, and made them slimmer. I added an extra "robot arm" to the belly to be more screen accurate. I flattened out the concave portion of the chest and added a circular arc reactor to be more screen accurate. I used an extra glow-in-the-dark piece as the arc reactor, but I used a technic plate so that the light brick can still illuminate it. I made small modifications to the lower back and sides to fill in gaps in those areas. I modified the thrusters on the back to place them slightly further apart. You can view breakdowns of all of the mods here. https://imgur.com/a/xNngm https://imgur.com/a/34xWH https://imgur.com/a/gPqXR https://imgur.com/a/BvYhh
