Harry Potter 2021 - Rumors & Discussion
TheInvisibleMan replied to Captain Nemo's topic in LEGO Licensed
ok, just pre-ordered the Hogsmead and the bathroom sets. The latter is just for the crab and goyl minifigs really, and I’ll re-use the pieces for something else... -

I’m the opposite. For me the 18-20 hogwart interior was far more detailed. The main difference is that in the previous iteration they tried to give us everything, so a lot of it was scaled down to more mini-representations - but for me these really hit the mark and felt super detailed. these new sets are more focussed on one specific events, so have less detailing as by definition they are trying to represent less. They are still great for what they are, but as display sets I find the 18-20 versions much more pleasing and detailed both inside and out. on a slightly different note, the quidditch lesson feels a little different and is the one set here that probably goes with either castle. It reminds me more of the room of requirements sets in terms of what it offers. -

Also, is the flying lesson the first time we get a set without any of the three main protagonists? -

For me the only sets here I’ll get are the Hogsmead and the flying lesson (as this can easily be added to the 18-20 hogwart). I do have a soft spot for that fawks though... -

Wel let me first say that I’m very pleasantly surprised by these sets. I will definitely be buying the hogsmead set, which more than lives up to expectations. The hogwart sets are very nice and the detailing is fantastic, but as I already have the previous iteration and mainly have them as display sets, I’ll likely be giving these a miss. I’ll need to see about acquiring some of the minifigures though, as these are definitely the highlight of the wave for me! For the cards, I’ll reserve judgment to see what the distribution will be like (wondering if they are really limited to 16 characters or just 16 available if you buy one of each set...) -

Surely the buildable Fawks would be a prime candidate for a golden Dumbledore?.. -

Yeah, I’m stoked the Lucius minifigure will be coming in a cheaply available medium like this. I really like that figure but haven’t found sufficient justification to spend €400 on the set yet (I love the diagon alley set but can’t bring myself to spend the money in one go...) For the June/august waves, I thing the Hogsmead set will hopefully satisfy my need for good new sets. The rest remain a bit of a disappointment to me but, as ever, I’ll hold off final judgment until I’ve seen the final sets -

Just picked up the magazine with the quidditch Cedric. It’s €5.99, which isn’t too bad. Glad to finally get my hands on the Hufflepuf robes -

Are you planning on buying it? I personally own a few chess sets already and they are, in my opinion, far nicer than any Lego version. So this set holds no interest for me, as it doesn’t provide anything I don’t already have. If the minifigures had been more interesting then it could have been a different matter. Fair enough. Although at that price point we’ll be getting a lot of wands!! -

That’s exactly what I mean. If you’re going to buy a chess set then you’d probably just get a proper one that’s not liable to break into pieces all the time... this set doesn’t seem to include any ‘Lego’ play features, which is usually the point of a Lego set This may not be so bad. If it’s a collection of buildable sections then it may come with a good amount of minifigures. It could also be a good way of getting Lego versions of less likely locations that wouldn’t make good stand alone sets... although imagine if it was a triwizard tournament location set, that could actually be quite good for example. -

Personally I don’t really see the point of this chess set. It doesn’t really have anything special (that I can see) a chess set and it doesn’t offer any particularly interesting minifigures. The three main protagonists are a dime a dozen and hold no interest for me. I’d have loved a version that used the figures as chess pieces like in the pirate one, so a missed opportunity as far as I’m concerned... -

Well that’s cleared up then! Normal chess board it is! -

Were you confused at my use of the word ´fact’? Figure of speech. Based on what Brick Clicker has indicated, we’ll only have 6 rows on the board, which while not very accurate, is easy enough to modify to give you the full 8 standard rows -

thanks for the info. I guess this is the minimum we should expect for a ‘real’ chess set. The fact it will only have the two rows in between (rather than 4) is ok, as that part can no doubt be easily moded if people want the full experience. -

Unless they go for a Creator style set that could do both... -

I for one am expecting a full size chess board. There would be no logic in a half a**ed effort. I’d guess the pawns will be brick-built and the other pieces a mixture of moulded pieces (by this I mean horses), brick built pieces and minifigures. I fully expect there to be more than just the three main protagonists too. -

So I guess there’s a high probability that the unknow D2C set will be a location which we haven’t yet had and also a stand-alone set, so there’s not really that many options... - gringots (although I personally don’t see it coming out so close to the €400 diagon alley set, as that would be a tall ask to get people to spend €650 for the ‘full’ street...) - the ministry of magic (it is bound to appear at some point and this price range would allow for a set that includes a good coverage of the various focal points from the movies) - Azkaban ( because why not? We have yet to have a set that gives us lots of bad guys...) - grimauld place (seems like quite a good option to me. Play features, new characters, fits in with the current timeline of sets...) - quidditch (either a hogwart expansion set or even a world cup setting. Not my favoured option, but not entirely unlikely) - Kings Cross (a more expansive platform 9 3/4 could actually make for a great display set) -

Yup, and golden Hermione and another figure (any guesses?). I have a lot of time for that jumper on the ´normal’ Hermione. -

This is something I’d like to see instead of another Harry fig. And to be fair, even though they haven’t produced new parts for accessory packs to date, there’s no reason to think that they don’t already have a helmet like that might fit the bill (the classic aviator hat/goggles combo comes to mind, even if not perfect) -

To be fair, they are both technically included in this one gold minifigure (based on the pictures) 😉 -

Well, all that’s left to do now is ignore the fact Lego ever made these sets and hope for the best in august. ... there’s certainly nothing like a retro set or two to make us realise quite how good we’ve had it in this re-release of the HP theme. I find it very hard to fathom how they could have thought that these were a good idea. I guess we know why the golden figures are included though, as someone at Lego clearly saw what a poor reception these would get! -

Probably a model of scabbers then to go with the Hedwig we already have... I guess Azkaban is also potentially on the cards though... -

How would we feel about the $250 set being a detailed representation of kings cross’s platform 9 3/4? Or even the bridge for the hogwart express (pretty iconic IMO)?..
