  1. The colors and the face print look a lot like those in set 10191 "Star Justice" from 2008. That was built by an AFOL in the then-current "Pre-Classic Space" AFOL quasi-theme/trend. The basic idea for "Pre-Classic Space" was to build chunkier, clunkier spaceships and rovers in white and light gray to suggest the spacecraft that the Classic Space ships were developed from. So you're not wrong about the Creator 3-in-1 Space Rover Explorer possibly representing a time between City Space and Classic Space. https://brickset.com/sets/10191-1/Star-Justice
  2. Just chiming in to point out something that must be pointed out at least once in every discussion of new vs old Technic supercars and Technic in general - - - 8880, for all its amazing features, relied on a set of specialized new molds for the gearshift, the four wheel drive, and the four wheel steering. Most of those new parts were never used again. I just got a used copy of 8880 on Tuesday and built it today, so I know firsthand what an amazing set it is - - - but the "soul" of Lego Technic is achieving mechanical solutions with existing parts, not relying on new parts that were never used before or since. With that in mind, I think the Porsche, Bugatti, and Land Rover, despite all their many flaws, are much better representations of what Technic can do. They have new wheel rims and mudguards, sure, but those are decorative elements that aren't important to the technical functions. The technical functions are achieved with existing parts, except for a new wave shifter and blue gear in the Bugatti that are much more generic and therefore versatile than the extremely specialized shifting, drive, and steering system that was invented for the Super Car in 1994. Dangit, now I might talk myself into getting the Bugatti or the Land Rover. Wallet, please say no.
  3. Ever since I was a kid, it's been my opinion that Lego has a unique talent for photographing sets from the least flattering angle for the box art. At least, it's almost always my opinion that the most flattering angle of any particular set is not the one on the box. But that's just me!
  4. I usually have zero interest in walkers, but this is superb. I love the level of detail, the overall shape, the clean, uncluttered interior, the two seater cockpit, the reel for Luke's grappling line, the speeder garage ... And that new 74-Z speeder bike is just fantastic. I probably can't afford the AT-AT, but if there's an Endor set anytime soon with the speeder bike in brown it'll be a must-buy for sure.
  5. That's absurd. Who the heck ordered that? If they shuffle the parts around like they're shuffling around the minifigs, a site that is already extremely difficult to use is going to become a hundred times worse.
  6. Well, that too. Sort of looks like they took the shape of the app-controlled Batmobile and stuffed in a mobile lab instead of motors, battery box, receiver. It's just that it's this big all-terrain vehicle with sci-fi styling that carries a mobile lab. The details are different.
  7. Does the vehicle in the Gallimimus pursuit set 75940 remind anyone else of the 6927 All Terrain Vehicle from Classic Space?
  8. I think they're the same wheels as on the 2019 City Rover.
  9. It looks to me like there are three reasons for the lack of an interior. The windlass mechanism probably takes up most of the bow underneath the fo'c'sle, and the drive axle that connects the rotating red wings at the back to the pop-out engines at the front is probably routed directly through the center of the enclosed hull volume, which would get in the way of any interior furnishings. The 2017 Bounty had the same basic hull width at the bow, but the studs-out decorative hull panels were flush with the left and right sides of the bow, which left room for an 8-wide interior. The 2020 Bounty's hull panels are recessed inboard by 1 stud each, which would leave room for a 6-wide interior. That would be usable but cramped if not for the drive axle running through it, so I understand why the set designers chose not to include any interior. It should be an easy mod to remove that axle and furnish the interior, but I'll wait for reviews before making a buying decision. For now, the lack of an interior has moved the Bounty from a probable buy to a probable pass. The one thing I always thought was lacking in the old pirate ships was a full top deck with a furnished interior beneath, and the presence of a full top deck with a full interior is what made the 2017 Bounty and the 2020 Barracuda must-buys for me. It's the main distinguishing feature I hoped to see with a full hull on the 2020 Bounty as a remake of the top-deck-only 2012 Bounty. Oh well. Better for my wallet that way.
  10. Destiny's Bounty looks great on the outside. I was really excited to see it become a proper sailing ship with a full hull and top deck for this wave, like the movie version. But the back of the box pics on Promo Bricks don't show an interior, which I find highly disappointing. What's the point of having a big tall hull like that without an interior? May as well just have the reduced top deck only model as in the original set. Hope the early reviews show more features.
  11. What's it supposed to be again? I see a big black semi truck with a trans yellow windscreen and bat fins, towing a big huge trailer with a trans yellow windscreen. What's the trailer supposed to be? Edit - "Mobile Bat Base", huh? Do we know anything about the features the mobile base is supposed to have?
  12. The first Vic Viper in a set was the spaceship in 7066 Earth Defense HQ from 2011. It even included stickers with a tribute to "Nnenn", the most prolific builder of Vic Vipers until his untimely death in 2009 (?), so there was no mistaking the intent.
  13. Lego has partnered with NASA in some form or another for the Town/City Space sets at least since 1995 (as stated in old Mania Magazines) and probably since 1990, since that's when the first Space Shuttle was released.
  14. More like this, which I was sorely tempted to buy last year ... but I didn't.
  15. Off topic - I've heard before that Alien Conquest wave 2 was canceled pretty late, but I've never heard that we got any pictures from it. Does anyone have a link to that? I'd love to see it.
  16. Several times. Just off the top of my head the Ghostbusters Firehouse, Jurassic Park T-Rex Rampage, and Fiat 500 come to mind. When you broaden the criteria to include Ideas submissions that didn't reach 10k, there's also the Apollo lunar lander and many others, I'm sure.
  17. Yes. Those projects reached 10K supporters and were rejected in the final review. They were not rejected as soon as they were submitted. I'm not holding out hope for an in-house Pirates/Imperials wave based on the rejection of Imperials Ideas projects upon submission.
  18. It's a pretty slim hope, but there is precedent, sort of. They turned down "Luke, I Am Your Father" after review not only because it was Star Wars but also because they had Cloud City in the works, and they turned down the Jaguar Type E after review because it conflicted with the Aston Martin DB5.
  19. Splendid, I'm almost certainly going to pick this up. Since the sails and pirate logo are brick-built, it'll be easy to leave the skull and crossbones off the foretopsail and make it a merchant ship for the Barracuda to plunder. Can't wait for hi-res pics. Is this going to be a June release?
  20. Here's a simple mod of the Barracuda that uses only parts from the island section of 21322 to lay a floor for the gun deck, install a small arms rack, move the bunks into the fo'c'sle "before the mast," bring the pig aboard for "pork on the hoof," and fill the aft hold full of stores. The supporting structure for the top deck needed a bit of rearrangement too, but nothing complex or difficult.
  21. @Dorino, here are some cell phone pictures of the modded Barracuda. Just some simple mods that use only parts from the set, but it's surprising how much of the island had to go in order to lay a floor for the gun deck. To me, that makes it more believable that all the accessory structures in the island build were put together using spare lumber and replacement masts carried in the ship's hold, below the gun deck where we never see it because for Lego ships everything below the gun deck is hammerspace.
  22. Splendid! That's a really great way to use all the island parts and make them into something that work without the ship. I went the other way with my copy ... scrapped virtually the entire island in order to build a better gun deck inside the ship. Gonna go over to Flickr right now and fave this so I can find it again whenever I feel like rebuilding the island.
  23. Great idea, but split it into a wave: Jedi Temple for $100-$120 USD, similar in size and style to the Ninjago movie Temple of the Ultimate Ultimate Weapon 70617 Senate Building for $100-$120 USD, ditto Tall Building for $100$120 USD, similar to the upcoming $100 Avengers Tower or the $120 Vader's Castle in size and build style Anakin's fighter for $20-$30 USD Republic Gunship for $120 USD Public Transport Vehicle for $50-$60 USD Speeder Car for $20 USD Total - $510-$590 USD, but you don't have to buy EVERYTHING ALL AT ONCE so you can still get the parts you want if you're (relatively speaking) not made of money, and you don't have to get THE WHOLE THING if all you want is the Gunship or the Temple.
  24. ^ Lack of existing head molds didn't stop the Ideas team from selecting Winnie the Pooh, and lack of current small hull molds didn't stop them from selecting the Pirate Bay. I don't see that as much of a problem.
  25. I'm unfamiliar with the app, so all I did was post a link to a PDF of the paper book. If you require app-based building instructions, I can't help.
