General Pirates of the Caribbean Theme Discussion Thread
WesternOutlaw replied to Oswald the Rabbit's topic in LEGO Pirates
Ties in perfectly with Disney licensing, and as mentioned previously, makes sense to have cancelled the regular Pirate theme. I'm excited over this news and looking forward to seeing a LEGO Black Pearl set as well as all the other popular movie scenes. In regard to the style/design, I could see them being similar to the PoP sets. -
This is amazing work M! I've always been a fan of huge mansions from my early LEGO childhood; unfortunately, I've never had enough pieces to build one. You've done a fantastic job at creating interior details that are as equally impressive to the outside. Great colors and nice tiling, I even love the wax figures that you've selected (like Frankenstein - a perfect movie monster). Well deserving of a Classic Town blog as well as an EB front-page! Beautiful!

EB member Marcosbessa has been busy lately creating his latest masterpiece. After some time, his Ancient Lady's Museum is completed. The interior of this exquisite LEGO Town museum is as detailed as the exterior. A dual spiralling staircase, Romanesque statue with columns, planters, and wonderful tiling adorns the palatial mansion. To see more images, visit the EB Town Forum!

Oh, how could I have forget Model Team. Although it's not System, it's a beautiful set and further demonstrates LEGO's interest in these helicopter transport sets. Thanks for sharing. EDIT: this would make a nice color scheme for a minifig-scale MOC.

Very nice. I think it might be more appropriate to have this topic in Other Themes though, as it's not really a Town/City creation. Topic moved.

Thanks Benny. I think your colorful creation deserves some front-page attention! Nice job - I'm loving all the details.

LEGO Train fan Benny creates a most detailed Hong Kong Railway Museum for a 2010 "Funny Places in Hong Kong" building competition. Check out additional images of his colorful LEGO Train scene in Train Tech.

Benny: your creation is beautiful, but you need to resize your images. 800x600 is EB's max size.

From wonderful train locomotives to sci-fi models, Davey strikes again! You really are a talended builder Dave. I've never been a big space fan, but when I see fantastic models like this, I just have to comment. I really like the checkerboard front end which captures your attention. The folded wing design looks good as well. Lots of wing details and a nice red/yellow stripe that blends in nicely with your color scheme (and without the use of stickers). Top notch creation and two front-pages in one week. Gread job bud!

In memory of the late great Nnenn, EB Fellow Davey shares his Brickworld 2010 creation, a LEGO Space XP-38 Sky Viper. Beautiful colors with an equally impressive design highlights his creation. You can see more pictures and discuss the MOC in EB's LEGO Sci-Fi forum.

This is a very nice review. I esp. like the added video clips that you've included. I missed out on this set, and actually regret buying. I would have loved to add my Bespin Cloud Car to the landing bay. The extra features add a nice element of detailed action to this set, esp. the Han in Carbonite/Freezing Chamber. Great review and thank you for sharing!

You can build a train bridge and add the new Cargo Train. As for a speedboat, the new World City set looks pretty nice - although the boats may be a bit large if you don't have a lot of blue baseplates/water area. EDIT: Oh, I didn't mention Scene #7 for the land sharks. I purchased 7684 Pig Farm & Tractor yesterday. Maybe I'll have some beach front farm land for a nice winery and add a few pigs on surfboards.

KD: You just keep getting better and better at your digital designs. This reminds me of one of the old Police HQ sets with the heliport on top. Love the combination of a high rise with the port scene, and a nice collection of figs and accessories. Do you plan to build this design? It would make for a great Classic Town with new City element set. Great job!

Awesome! Do you find yourself collecting the other LEGO helicopters and/or aircraft sets? I don't know much about aircraft myself, but I've always been a fan since the early Seaplane days.

Interesting feedback fellas. As I was writing this brief article, I was thinking of an old metal diecast toy I remember as a kid. It was a military truck & trailer with a helicopter that I wanted for a long time (in one of those glass cases with various metal war soldiers). Never got it, but to this day, I remember staring at in in the case. A military model, similar to the Indy sets, would make a really nice LEGO set. Ralph S's model is a real beauty. Reminds me of the old Steam Shovel with Carrier:

Did you know that Aircraft Transportation sets date back to Classic Town and maybe even earlier in LEGO history? In 1988, LEGO released 6357 Stunt Copter and Truck as part of it's System (now Classic Town) collection. What a beautiful set with it's classic 4-stud wide black design and red and yellow pin striping. I'm sure many LEGO fans during this era vroomed and swooshed the helicopter for drive and stunt action! It wasn't until 10 years later that LEGO would offer a similar set of the Police variety in 1998 called 6328 Helicopter Transport. This aircraft transport was not nearly as nice as its predecessor, but it did offer some police action as one could chase down criminals with the black & white copter. Green windshields also provided a unique look. Jack Stone (run and hide!) would utilize the aircraft tranport concept with it's set 4607 Copter Transport in 2001. With a "bummble bee" color palette, the Jack Stone copter was quickly grounded along with the theme a short while later. Adding a different twist to the helicopter transport, the not too popular Island Xtreme Stunts theme would take advantage of the truck, trailer, and vehicle combination to offer its 6739 Truck & Stunt Trikes set one year later (2002). This set is worth including in the Aircraft Transport collection as Island Xtreme Stunts also offered a small airplane in 6735 Air Chase that one could haul with the 6739 Truck. Although the set design was not very good and the trailer piece resembled something out of the Jack Stone variety, the set did introduce LEGO's new orange color. Aircraft Transportation would be reinvigorated once again in 2009 with a set by the same name as 6328, this time 7686 Helicopter Transport. Just like the Island Xtreme Stunts set 6739, this new transport would once again contain lots of orange; but unfortunately, a common color for 2009 and 2010 LEGO City sets. It's still a nicely designed set and orange was certainly a nice choice of colors. 7686 Helicopter Transport was only available for approximately six months, and no longer available through most stores that sell LEGO. Given the brief history of Aircraft Transportation sets, the combination of Big Rig and Helicopter/Aircraft certainly offers a higher degree of action and adventure in our LEGO Towns and Cities. How well do you like Aircraft Transport sets in your Tabletowns and Floorvilles? Do you find yourself swooshing and vrooming the helicopters over your Modular buildings and roadplates? Have you built landing areas for the aircraft, or stick to the truck trailers for a safe landing zone? How about utilizing the aircraft transport sets to escape the onslaught of Zombie Minifigure or Dino attacks? Rip roaring, high flying action and adventure in your towns, share your thoughts...

Thanks Friction. Appreciate you resizing your images. The town definitely looks better with roadplates (although I'm a bigger fan of the older ones with some green). You've got a great collection of newer sets. I love the air taxi (helicopter) that comes with the limo. I'm looking forward to buying that set.

Action Themes and You
WesternOutlaw replied to Peppermint_M's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Great topic Pep! (and front-paged) I'm a huge fan of action themes. I think they represent an element of mystery and adventure. Action themes are diverse from Adventurers to World Racers, so they certainly span a wide range. Commonalities include the high degree of playability and opportunity to stretch ones' imagination. I think of my favorite action theme, I like Adventurers and Orient Expedition. I especially like the exploration for hidden treasures, and even an occational beastie to do battle with. Other sets containing submarines and underwater adventures spark my interest, so I like the fact that LEGO has continued to delve into the deep blue in search of sunken treasures and lost cities. This is most interesting question, and I look forward to reading more thoughts on Action themes. -
LEGO Action Themes - Adventurers, Agents, Alpha Team, Aquazone, Atlantis, Dino Attack, Power Miners, Rock Raiders, Time Cruisers, World Racers; to name just a few. Why? What attracts you to these themes and why do you buy them? Peppermint_M asks in this latest EB Action Forum topic. Share your thoughts HERE.

Gold City Junction Photo Review
WesternOutlaw replied to WesternOutlaw's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
My pleasure ZO6. This was one of my first image reviews back in the day, when I was but a lone Western fan here on EB. This set brings back old memories and was one of a few Wild West sets that brought me out of my Dark Age era. I love the colors in this set - brown, tan, and green, that were so unique after years of not purchasing LEGO. I think it's certainly worth displaying in a case, and feel free to share a new image review of this classic set, as mine could have been much better with a better camera and additional comments. This is one of my favorite all-time sets. Lots of action/playability, nice design, and great pieces (I've used in many MOCs). Long live the Wild West theme! Grave Stone that is!
