  1. Sure thing, but do you realize this was posted over two years ago?
  2. We've had quite a few trains in the last several years, more than I can remember in a long time. While trains are not as abundant as the 12V era and perhaps early 9V, they really seem to be making a come-back. Now if LEGO would offer a few different single car/rolling stock sets, that would be awesome. In terms of 3677, the train almost seems like a mix of single car sets because each wagon seems so different in color, design, and style. While many LEGO Cargo Trains have similar aspects, I find the wagons in this set somewhat unique, almost as if a non-LEGO designer created them. Maybe it's the mix of colors, but I just can't put my finger on it.
  3. Thanks Macoco. Not to get off topic, but it's always nice to have someone take an interest in your layouts. I actually had to search for the topic because I couldn't remember if I had shared an image. Here is Train Town 7, but I had to remove the small harbor to make room for more land/buildings. I left the bridge, but the desert and forest areas have been developed. The plus: Town Plan, three Creator buildings, and the large Mexican Church (includes one Mexican minifigure). Now I have to make room for the new Pet Shop and I still want to add a large Marina - perhaps on a different table. Still have the cypress trees.
  4. You have a point, but that's why some are referring to them as binoculars, myself included.
  5. A couple of LEGO car air horns, gold chrome horns, or even a few tap/spicket pieces would have made a nice addition rather than binoculars in that case.
  6. I think there's an article related to the topic.
  7. Fantastic! Great color scheme and it's nice to see you in our Train Tech forum ACCURATEin. I think the combination of a beautiful MOC and a wonderful couple makes this a front-page item. Love it!
  8. Maersk Blue Wedding Bells! Congratulations are in order for two AFOL! Wedding bells are ringing even in the LEGO Train Engine Sheds of EB's Train Tech forum. That's right, ACCURATEin has created a beautiful 8-stud wide LEGO Train as a wedding gift for the special couple. Tan and light blue seem to be the wedding colors and with the addition of a "just married" sign and wedding couple minifigures, this creation should certainly bring a smile to the lucky couple. Make sure you stop by Train Tech to see the splendid creation and wish the young couple well!
  9. Likewise - and I read it too.
  10. Outstanding review Pandora! Your images are "top-notch" I picked this set up a few weeks ago, but haven't had a chance to open. I love the Classic Town look of the set and I applaud LEGO for offering this new sub-theme. I find the set to have an interesting choice of colors, especially with the green roof sections. The boat is also one that I would not expect in a beach-type scene but I like it for the adventure appeal, reminding me of a new flavor of Divers - color is right but the large size is new and different. I'll have to build to appreciate the set more, but right now I really like it. I'll reserve my vote/rating until I get this set up with a few blue baseplates. Love your review though.
  11. I've always liked the color scheme of the Chessie locomotives, reminding me of HO train sets (seems there was always a Chessie available in HO). You've done a nice job at creating in LEGO. It's interesting to see the curved railing. Do you plan to add any decals?

  13. Welcome to the Train Tech forum Nikola. It's always nice to hear how fans from other LEGO themes are enjoying trains. I don't have the red passenger train as I'm more a Cargo Train fan. I appreciate you sharing the video because when I power up my Maersk locomotive, I notice that same familar hum from the motor. Now I see (or hear) that it's not just my PF motor. I hope you enjoy the forum!
  14. It's really interesting to read the comments on this topic. Frogstudio: What an awesome layout! I'm so impressed with the fact the you have even identified the different areas for the new 2011 sets, like the harbor and the lighthouse. If you ever manage to build this coastal layout, it would incredible. I'm loving the incorporation of the various water plates and how they blend with the baseplate geography of your town. This was the extend of my coastline before converting it to dry land due to construction needs: It didn't give me much space for a marina or even a single freight ship. In fact, even my river was just about dried up: Unfortunately, the surfer dude's wave never came in like anticipated: I could go on... But seriously, your layout is incredible! Great thought! I'd love to have a train bridge passing over some real water.
  15. Really nice and certainly a non-traditional color for a locomotive. I've always liked LEGO's lime green, and over the past few years, there's only been a handful of MOCs with the color. It's great to see you successfully utilize lime green in your Emerald MOD and I think with black, the two colors contrast nicely. Great color combination!
  16. The Integration of Trains & Boats With LEGO's new 2011 Harbor/Marina City sub-theme, boat fans will be excited over the new line up! Unfortunately, space is always a limiting factor for adding those marinas and coastal freight ways to one's existing Train Town. As I recalled some wonderful images of 12V and battery operated (4.5V) trains, I had to do some digging to find a late 80s catalogue that illustrated the integration of LEGO Boats with LEGO Trains. The picture is one of a few that LEGO shared with its fans to demonstrate how the two themes, both relating to travel in the world of LEGO, could be blended for a harmonious combination of track and waterway transportation. So my question, do you plan or have you integrated trains and boats in your Train Towns or Floorvilles in a manner similar to the catalogue image above? Do your trains transport goods to a nearby harbor sharing cranes for lifting cargo containers to floatable boats in a Maersk to Marina fashion? (or) perhaps your freight cars may be transporting boats for a more unique integration? Are only Cargo Trains acceptable in a Seaport Village, or can an Emerald be side-by-side with a Harbor Transport? Share your thoughts on this Train & Town Crossover Topic, to be found only in the Train Tech forum. Pictures most welcome!
  17. Nice review WF. These little polybag sets make for great stocking stuffers. This is my personal favorite among the small Atlantis collection, and at $3.99 (here in the US), it's a fair price. Your images are looking nicer with every review. Thanks for sharing - I agree with your rating of 4.
  18. On a side note (not to get too far off topic): thanks for sharing that video reference. I never saw How the West Was Won and I know it's a classic. I was always partial to Breakheart Pass with Charles Bronson - great train movie. Always inspired me to build a Wild West train.
  19. Outstanding Nieks and very different from traditional LEGO trains. I love the lettering/graffiti. I think this deserves some front-page attention.
  20. I believe I have LC, in my Train Town post. When I find the link, I'll add it to this post. EDIT: here's a link to a single picture. I suppose that is your opinion and you are certainly entitled to it. In your previous post, you mention the word BASE and the word PLATE in the same sentence to describe the piece(s). I chose to combine the words to describe the blue plates that serve as the base, adding the dimensions for accuracy. Sure, you can look at it from the perspective of what LEGO calls their sets, but as the author, I like to think that "baseplate" used in this context makes sense to me. I must admit that I understand your opinion, but really have difficulty in taking it as constructive, as the purpose of this topic is not to define the word baseplate but rather share an early image review of the set with the LEGO community. EDIT: In fact, as I look back upon your description as well as the definition from Brickipedia: "A baseplate is flexible, thinner than a plate and studs will not connect on the bottom". I realize that this definition is in fact in error, at least based upon some of the older sets of which I still build upon. Take for example the 10x20 large green and yellow baseplates from the 70s found in numerous basic sets (see set 796 on Peeron); as well as the 8x16 System Baseplate (9279). If I recall correctly, these were hardly flexible, not thin (in fact three studs high), and allowed studs to connect on bottom. Dacta and Duplo have a few that do not fit your definition as well. For those that might call these pieces "bricks" because of their thickness, they are used as baseplates rather than bricks. Train baseplates aren't exactly flexible and thin; and many vignette builders may argue that the 8x8 brick is a "baseplate" or at least serves as one to build upon. But again, if the piece is used as the first brick/foundation, I will continue to refer to it as a baseplate because it makes sense (at least to me).
  21. Is this really an issue for you? Just for kicks, I Googled "LEGO Baseplate" and found various sizes displayed, not just roadplates and the large thin variety. I think the word baseplate is a generic term than can apply to any plate that one builds upon. I did mention the dimensions in my review and I think most understand that Syn is referring to these plates.
  22. Thanks WF, esp. for the front-page attention. Creator is certainly doing a fine job. This set is my favorite so far. I've got a small residential section in my Train Town just for the Creator Houses (including the Log Cabin). Now I need to somehow make room for the Marina/Harbor sets and this fantastic set. Thanks H. I hear you! I was able to pick up a few of the sets over the weekend but have ZERO space in my Train Town to accomodate a Harbor. In fact, I removed a small patch of water (3-4 blue baseplates) several months ago to make space for the residential area I mentioned above and the Town Plan buildings. With all these great Marina/Harbor sets, I need a Water World by itself.
