What a clever creation, and a perfect song to see it shake by. This idea would work great for a Haunted Western Shack, and Grave Stone never had one like this. I love it! BLOGGED!

Very nice little speedboar Moose - and I like the fact that it's a two seater. Just yesterday, it seems that I was playing with this old thing: It's amazing how far Lego has come. PS. I agree with CopMike. It looks like it's been a really long time since this boat's been on water.

Mine too. The instructions are different than the picture on the box.

PICTORIAL REVIEW: 6240 Kraken Attackin'
WesternOutlaw replied to WesternOutlaw's topic in LEGO Pirates
Definately! -
Awesome! The review is a nice one that I missed. Thanks for pointing it out to me. TRU never seems to have Impulse sets though and they didn't have them today. Any set with the Imperials is a nice one though. I will stock up when available.

PICTORIAL REVIEW: 6240 Kraken Attackin'
WesternOutlaw replied to WesternOutlaw's topic in LEGO Pirates
What are you comparing this set to? How many figs would you expect in a set that's less than $10? So you rated it as average based on a $2 price difference? Thanks Paul. I agree with you re. the Kraken, but I really like the two color Parrot. -
You bet Pr0visorak. You're welcome. Glad you enjoyed the review. My local ToysRUs had a few of them today. It's funny, I've been calling for a few weeks now, and they always tell me NO. Today I found them on the store shelf after just calling yesterday. I sure do. I missed out on these the first round (except for a few sets that were gifts). Now I'm playing "Make-Up". I haven't seen the impulse sets yet. I suppose I stand corrected.

Pirates Cannon Battle Set #: 6239 Theme: Pirates 2009 Year Released: 2008 Piece Count: 45 Minifigs: 2 List Price: $6 (USD) The smallest of the new Pirates theme, 6239 offers a lot of playability for such a small set. Starting with the box, the same boxart as previously reviewed Pirate sets: Front Back This small set includes two great figs, an Imperial Guard (my favorite), and one pirate with green striped shirt: Front Back The set includes one treasure map, a rifle, two swords, and a few extra pieces: The torch or lighter for the cannon is a great little design. Attaching the new gold telescope to a brown rod, a new fire piece looks as if the wind is blowing the flame: The set includes a small little wall that breaks apart when hit by a cannon brick: Here's the simple but effective construction of the breaking wall: I love the new firing cannon. The small piece in the back can be pulled just slightly and when it bounces back, it pushes the hollow cannon brick (round 1x1): Another view of the cannon. I want to attach a horse to it to pull the cannon around: Here's the two opposing forces as they attack one another: And lastly, the complete set: Final Thoughts As the smallest set in the new Pirates theme, Cannon Battle is a great little inexpensive set. I had to pick up two of these to get a few of the great red-coat Imperial Guards, which will no doubt find their way to 6242 Soldiers Fort. The break-away wall is just OK, but the cannon, a real beauty. For a $6 USD set, I think it's worth the 45 pieces. Hope you enjoy this review. My next build is a lot larger.

Pirates Kraken Attackin' Set #: 6240 Theme: Pirates 2009 Year Released: 2008 Piece Count: 78 Minifigs: 2 List Price: $10 (USD) From the depths of a dark bottomless sea, the creature's thick tentacles lunge toward the makeshift raft. The two-man crew grab their swords and gun before shooting one round at the mighty beast. Its murky white eyes blink momentarily before one of its tentacles wrap around the small treasure crate. Two of the large gems that the pirates managed to rescue from the sinking ship flies into the rough ocean! Will the crew escape the revenge of the kracken or will they be the next to sink to Davey Jones' Locker? I was so excited today when I visited my local Toys R Us store discovering a few of the new Pirate sets on the store shelf. I couldn't wait to bring the sets home and do a few new Pirate reviews, starting with this small set, 6240 Kracken Attackin'. The new boxart looks nice with a blue daytime ocean and island and clouds in the background. These new sets offer no sunsets like those from the bygone Pirate theme. Here's a few pictures of the box: Front Back The artwork on the back of the box is nicely done and features a picture of the large pirate set, 6243. Here's a close-up of the boxart on the back of the box: The same image on the front of the box appears on the instructions: Included within the instructions is a small one-page comic. I actually like these and think that they are great for smaller kids: The new pirates are awesome with detailed front and back torsos, as shared in Lego12's previous reviews. This set includes two pirates. I esp. like the face of the pirate on the right: Here's a shot of the back of their torsos. Great detail! The set includes two cutlasses, a rifle, telescope, 2 gems, and an extra hook-piece used to hold the paddle: For those of you who remember the Divers theme, you'll recognize the Kracken as an octopus, but in new maroon color: I really like the clever design and colors of the raft: On one corner of the raft is a little stand for the new parrot. I love the new two-tone color giving it a real tropical look: The raft is actually made by combining two base sections with technic pieces on each side: Tan pieces in the middle provide the stud-on-top platform for the figs to stand on, and to connect the mast: Here's a shot of the complete raft as the Kracken attacks: And lastly, the complete set: Final Thoughts Kracken Attackin' is a great starter set for the new Pirate theme. It's the first set that I opened, and I'm very satisfied with the contents and design of the set. I love the new pirates with their nicely detailed torsos and it's great to see the return of the tricorner hat. The design of the raft is very nice, and the mast makes a nice addition. I don't mind seeing this as opposed to some makeshift sails. The Kracken in a new color works perfectly, and I'm glad Lego did not attempt to make a brick-built creature like the Viking sets; although I must admit that I probably would have preferred a new shark. I give this set a mid-level five based on its playability, two figs + accessories, octopus, and nicely designed raft. Hope you enjoy this review! PS. I may even watch Pirates of the Caribbean tonight!

Timbutnice: Thanks for your review and comparison of the town plan with the modular town buildings. I've always wondered how the sets would compare, and although a lot smaller, I don't think the Town Plan looks too bad next to/or near the larger modular buildings. They're just single-floor buildings compared to the larger modulars, although I see your point in regard to the Cinema being much smaller. In any case, thanks for sharing the review and comparison.

Good question LTF, and something that I can relate to. Dust comes through airvents, so even though you have a really nice hard wood floor with no carpet or bedding, it doesn't prevent the dust from coming into the room. A few things that you might do to eliminate/help prevent the dust: Buy an Ionic Breeze or other electric air filter. These work really well at collecting and eliminating a lot of dust, esp. in a small area. Keep the door to the room closed. Close your air vent. This is probably where most of the dust comes in. Keep the doors and windows of your house closed (although you've got to let some fresh air in from time-to-time). Have you ever had your air ducts cleaned? I hear this can help eliminate dust from the house, but it is sometimes costly. I'm also curious about one thing: do you have bookshelves/books in the room?

I stumbled upon these great Cowboy quotes on the web recently and wanted to share them with the EB community. What I like about most about them is the simplicity of the wisdom. I esp like #10, my personal favorite, as one who generally has to p!$$ on the fence. Enjoy! Never slap a man who's chewing tobacco. Always drink upstream from the herd. There's two theories to arguing with a woman. Neither one works. Never miss a good chance to shut up. We can't all be heroes because someone has to sit on the curb and clap as they go by. Never kick a cow chip on a hot day. If you find yourself in a hole, stop digging. I never expected to see the day when girls would get sunburned in the places they now do. The best way out of a difficulty is through it. There are three kinds of men: The ones that learn by reading. The few who learn by observation. The rest of them have to pee on the electric fence. What the country needs is dirtier fingernails and cleaner minds. Diplomacy is the art of saying "Nice doggie" until you can find a rock. An onion can make people cry but there's never been a vegetable that can make people laugh. If you're riding' ahead of the herd, take a look back every now and then to make sure it's still there. Lettin' the cat outta the bag is a whole lot easier'n puttin' it back. Don't squat with your spurs on. If you find yourself in a hole, the first thing to do is stop digging. It don't take a genius to spot a goat in a flock of sheep. Never ask a barber if you need a haircut. Timing has a lot to do with the outcome of a rain dance. You live in hell? HA! I ride him everyday. Grass is for bulls, what do you ride? "A gun is a tool, Marion, no better or no worse than any other tool, an axe, a shovel or anything. A gun is as good or as bad as the man using it. Remember that." -- Shane Talk slowly, think quickly. Sometimes you get and sometimes you get got. Never approach a bull from the front, a horse from the rear, or a fool from any direction.

LEGO custom Starbucks coffee shop on eBay
WesternOutlaw replied to Badsneaker's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
No! Of course not. After reading this post, and seeing the great little MOC, I just blogged it. (plus, I don't generally make coffee shops - just not my style. Rootbeer/sarsaparilla stands are more my speed). But I think the creation is really a neat one. -
This is excellent Hinck! What a great creation, and I'm not just saying that because I get to be the Imperial Soldier - although did I have to get BONKED in the head with a mace! What I really like is the height of the design and the blue building. The tudor-style design and colors you selected look terrific. Equally nice is the top of the tower and the battle scene (minus the BONKING). Overall, another very nice MOC by a very creative builder.

Wow! I really didn't expect the negative comments about this little car. While I realize it's not the best little vehicle, it's a small, inexpensive set that has a few nice pieces and a great minifig. But in any case, no offense taken from those of you who hate it - but how about the OUTSTANDING review? - throw me a bone here! Thanks to those of you who at least appreciate the review. I'm going to rate it between a 3 and a 4. I've got some better World City sets to review, so better sets are coming.

LEGO custom Starbucks coffee shop on eBay
WesternOutlaw replied to Badsneaker's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
Tedbeard, with no disrespect intended: There's two ways you can look at this: 1) you can perceive the appreciation for the Starbucks trademark and name and say that the builder and Ebay is violating copyright law, as well as labeling my blog as "criminal activity" that EB condones; or 2) you can appreciate this MOC as a creative build from an artistic design stand-point realizing that it was not designed to "steal the Starbucks name", but rather depict a popular coffee shop with Lego. I choose to see the later, and appreciate this building as an outstanding Town MOC, thus the reason for "blogging it". You could take away the name and trademark of the shop, and it would still be a great creation. I'm not trying to sell it, but rather share a nice creation. -
Squad Car Set #: 7030 Theme: World City Police & Rescue Year Released: 2003 Piece Count: 51 Minifigs: 1 List Price: $4 (USD) Turn on the sirens! There's a speeder on the World City roadplates. Good thing we have 7030 Squad Car on the beat, to thwart the criminal syndicate of World City. Front of Box Back of Box Instructions - Front Instructions - Back This little set has a nice set of stickers: And an excellent policeman minifig with walkie-talkie: The police car is rather nice with a sleek, rounded design: The front bumber is rounded with a curved trans. yellow piece: The same piece in trans. red appears at the tail end along with a red and blue flat siren design: Officer Mike just received a radio dispatch that there's a 25-50 in progress... He sees the perpitrator ahead! It's a Black & White. He quickly turns on his siren and follows the vehicle: He slows down and gets out of the squad car: "What seems to be the trouble officer?", a classic Black & White asks. "I'm sorry Charlie", Officer Mike regrets to say, "You're classic vehicle is going way to slow along the streets of World City. I'm afraid I'm going to have to write you a ticket - going 25 in a 50".

Very nice Badsneaker. I'm most impressed with the interior detailing of the rooms. I esp. like the kitchen. The use of various color and different sized tiles really bring the rooms to life, giving each of them a unique quality. I also like the two car garage and carport. Extra touches like the design of the backyard with the horse area and perimeter fence also looks great. My only recommendation is to add some more trees (perhaps a few classic cypress trees) to the backyard. Overall, this is a very nice MOC. BLOGGED!

Awesome find! Thanks for sharing. This would make a great Starbucks exclusive. The colors and stickers are perfect. Overall, a great design. -
Nice job Mariko. I really like this modified jeep. The red works well, esp. with the larger tires and spare. BLOGGED!

I love it! What's great about this MOC is the smaller sized building. Lego should offer a small collection of little shops like this. They would be fairly easy builds, but nicely detailed, and offer a lot of playability. Great job! I'd like that little WWII Indy motorcycle at 50% off please. Let's see, does the shop buy old cycles as well?

You're absolutely correct. Seems I switched the legs. Sorry 'bout that.

Awesome review Lego12! Thank you for sharing this very nice review of a great set. I can't wait to get my hands on this and the other new Pirate sets. Pirates are back! - YES!!!

Hovercraft Hideout Set #: 7045 Theme: World City - Police & Rescue Year Released: 2004 Piece Count: 268 Minifigs: 2 List Price: $30 (USD) Resting in the quiet area of the harbor on the other side of the tracks, is a small hideout known as Dock 13, but unknown to World City police. There, lots of crooked deals go down as stolen items are bartered in exchange for stolen loot and other World City treasures. One of the more popular crooks in World City, a man they call Captain Nemo, has made this place his hideout with his slow dim-witted thug, Bennie. They've managed to steal a police hovercraft that they've repainted with custom detailing. What's next on their agenda to steal? Gems, Money, Lego? You decide, in this review of 7045 Hovercraft Hideout. 7045 Hovercraft Hideout is one of my most favorite sets of the World City Collection (not including the train sets). It includes a Hovercraft, Hideout, Jet Ski, and two Minifigs. Action packed boxart starts the review: Front of Box Back of Box Some images of the instructions: Front Alternate Models A neat feature of these instructions is a collection of images of other World City sets with artwork that looks like a newspaper: The set includes just a few decals: I love the minifigs. I think the Captain looks like James Mason's character of Captain Nemo from 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea: Three gems and two $100 bills are included as accessories: Here's a shot of the jet ski: And the hovercraft: The front section has a smoked grey windshield piece that lifts open: Where Captain Nemo pilots the vessel: Side view: Both sides have a small box to hide stolen money and gems: Here's a shot of the back: The neat feature of the hovercraft is that the jet ski can be placed in the middle section. This causes the rubberband to tighten. When the grey piece is pushed, the jet ski pops out of the rear section: The two engines are connected by a single black rod. Moving one causes the other to move: Here's the bottom section. It has three wheels with the front wheel being able to turn 360 degress. This makes pushing it fun: My favorite part of this set is the hideout: Check out the front side. The train door slides to the right. The little rat and fuel tank adds some nice detail to the set: But the neat part is placing the jet ski inside: Just like the hovercraft, pushing it in causes the rubberband to stretch, and the chimney piece lifts up. Pushing the chimney causes the jet ski to fly out! Here's ashot of the other side: And lastly, the complete set: Final Thoughts: Hovercraft Hideout was one of those sets that could easily be found on sale after the stores could not sell them for full price. I think I picked mine up for either $15 or $20 (USD). I've used this little hideout in a number of cities and it always makes a great place to hide the stolen loot. Here's a shot of it as part of the set for Mystery Ship: I also like to combine this set with 4856 Doc Ock's Hideout as part of pier or harbor scenes. I love the two figs, esp. Captain Nemo. Overall, the set is packed with lots of fun and the hideout makes a great addition to any city or town. I hope you've enjoyed this review. Comments welcome.

Very nice design. I'm not too good at these types of builds, so I esp. appreciate the work they take. This would make a great focal point/center for a park or larger estate. Some classic cypress trees nearby would look great.
