  1. Yes, as long as the main structure is not wider than 6-studs. No, technically not, but it would be nice if it was. Push trains were never very popular. The Trackside Structure category is meant to be just the structure. If it's something like a train engine shed, and you have part of a train hanging on a rope for repair, then that's okay. But to add a train to the scene is not necessary, and is not part of judging the structure. For Category 2 - I'll say YES. No, one entry per person per category. Length can very, but it should be 6-studs wide, like other lego trains. No, only new creations may be entered. Sorry. Right now, August 31, but the mods and admins are discussing. Have fun!
  2. The sunlight begins to shine through the mill windows waking everyone up from a rather sleepless night. There was a lot of activity during the night. 11:00 Max begins his shift by stretching his arms wide then waving them in the air like a gorilla. He jumps over to a sleeping Greaseman, pats him on the elbow, then goes over to Eleanor asking for her socks. She slaps him before turning around and going back to sleep. 11:45 Mark Williams slinks out of bed toward the stairs to be caught by Max. "What are you doing there"? Max asks. Mark confesses that he was planning to build a trap to help guard the sleeping party. Unsuccesful, Mark goes back to bed. 12:30 Steve Thomas is awaken by Max for a shift change. Max goes to sleep, and Steve begins his "walk-about" the mill. 1:00 Herman wakes up to spy on Jethro. Jethro is sound asleep though, so Herman just lies on the ground watching him snore, until falling asleep himself. 2:00 Steve Thomas returns from his "walk-about" to wake up Pete Smith for a shift change. While Steve begins shaking Pete to get him up, Schmelt wakes up and taps Arin on her shoulder. Shmelt whispers to her, "I have grits and cranberry vodka with me for a midnight picnic if my darling would like to partake". Arin turns around closing her eyes to say, "not know honey, I have a headache". Pete wakes and looks at a red-faced Schmelt, before Schmelt decides to just "quit while he's ahead". 2:03 Pete decides to have some fun and just begins sitting on as many sleeping faces as he can. 2:16 After the others have returned to sleep, someone sneaks up behind Pete placing a rope around his neck. He feels the strangulation as he falls to the ground unconscious... 2:16 - 3:00 Max, Steve Thomas, Mayor Brown, Eleanor, Hans, and Scruffy all sleeping near one another, awake to extreme pain. With their necks bleeding, one or more persons have attempted to cut their throats. Hans and Scruffy fall back to the floor where they now lay dead. Everyone wakes up looking around the room. A wood knife is found on the ground near Grill'n George, a small saw blade near David, and a sharp chissel near Arin. Max and Mayor Brown sustain 2 Life Point Damage. Steve and Eleanor receive 3 Life Point Damage. All of them are holding their necks while bleeding profusely. 3:33 Greaseman decides to leave the area to look around the mill. He comes back with something large in his pocket. Schmelt asks, "is that a dynamite detonator in your pocket, or are you just happy to see us"? 3:45 Lorraine walks over to the window, looks outside, and begins yodeling the tune to the Ricola commercial. She then pulls out a sharpie from her pocket looking at Mark. "I was planning to draw a black mustache on your face for snuggling up to Herman, but then all this crap had to happen", she says angrily. 4:00 Arin says, "well, I was planning on heating some water to put Austin's finger in it, but then all this crap happened". 5:30 Austin says "I was planning to spy on Grill'n George, but I guess it doesn't matter anymore". Pete awakens but has suffered two life points damage. "What the hell happened"? he asks.
  3. Yes and yes. A train set isn't enough? -maybe A six-stud wide train that runs on 8-stud wide tracks.

Pictures of your Lego Trains and Train Towns are encouraged. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Okay, I'll go ahead and start by saying, Welcome to Train Tech! I'm TheBrickster, one of the EB moderators, and long time collector of Lego -since the mid to late 1970s. Yes, my early childhood during the late 70s was spent with Lego basic building sets, followed by Town, Castle, and Space. Unfortunately, growing up in the United States, trains were not available in the shops during the era (at least I don't remember seeing them, except for maybe one push train in the early 80s). What a fabulous theme that I really missed out on. It wasn't until the mid 90s when the My Own Train Collection became available and I had to have the entire collection. Ordering track, rolling stock, and a 9V transformer, I soon had a great starter set for Lego Trains. Now, I have this fabulous collection which I very much enjoy building and running around the track: I live in the Western United States where trains play an important part of our history; from mining, cargo, to transporting people from the East Coast during the 1800s. While my personal experiences with real trains are pretty limited, I enjoy looking at pictures of old steam locomotives, Pullman coaches, as well as the refined and sophisticated look of European trains (both passenger and cargo). I love the old German steam locomotives with their large black engines and red wheels and base. Fantastic engineering marvels! I'm currently admiring all the fantastic 12V sets from Lego as well as older 9V sets like 4563 and 4564. Trying to build these out of a limited collection of train bricks is rather difficult without the original sets, but very fun and enjoyable. Lego trains are truly a great theme ring twould encourage riy Lego fan to purchase at least one set. So, again welcome to Train Tech, and I hope you enjoy the forum; and please, share your experiences and Lego train interest with our EB train community here. -TheBrickster

  8. Eurobricks Train Tech Contest All Aboard! In honor of the new and exciting Eurobricks Train Forum, Train Tech, Eurobricks is proud to announce its Train Tech Building Contest. In collaboration with RailBricks magazine that graciously donated two of the prizes for the contest, train and trackside builders across the Lego community are invited to participate. The Train Tech Building Contest will begin August 1 and end September 30, 2009, and includes three separate categories: Category 1: Build a Train Builders are to create a locomotive and rolling stock as part of an an 'entire train creation'. Participants can create a cargo or passenger train that must include a steam, diesel, or electric engine with any combination of wagons; limited to five cars (including the engine). Trains may be 4.5V, 12V, 9V, R/C, or Power Functions and must be minifig scale. Trains must run on standard track dimensions and be no greater than 8-studs wide. While decals and custom stickers are permitted, only Lego pieces are allowed, with the exception of custom train wheels. Category 2: Build a Single Engine or Train Wagon Builders are to create a single engine or rolling stock car. The car/wagon must fit standard track dimensions, be no wider than 8 studs wide, and minifig scale. Only Lego pieces are permitted (with the exception of custom train wheels), but custom stickers/decals are allowed. Participants may build any type of wagon or locomotive. Locomotives may include a matching tender/coal car. (Examples: caboose, boxcar, Pullman coach, flatbed car, gondola). NOTE: Trams have been accepted under this category. Category 3: Build a Trackside Structure For town and train fans that have a limited supply of train-related bricks, they can enter the train contest by building a trackside structure. Trackside structures can include any train-related building (Examples: train station, mill, water tower, switching tower, bridge). Only Lego pieces may be used but custom stickers are allowed. Buildings must be built in mini-fig scale. Participants may enter any one or more of the three categories, but each entry must be a different creation. NOTE: Only one entry per category per person. Prizes Prizes include the following for the 1st place winner of each category: Category 1: LEGO 10194 - Emerald Night train set. Category 2: Railbricks custom set. Prize sponsored by Railbricks. Category 3: Railbricks custom set. Prize sponsored by Railbricks. Second (2nd) and Third (3rd) place winners of each category will receive a special Eurobricks train tag for their avatar. Other Details Participants must provide one 640x480 picture for each category entered. Digital backgrounds are permitted. A separate entry thread will be provided for each of the three categories. Stories or backgrounds are not required with submissions. NOTE: Lego does not sponsor or endorse this train building contest. Questions may be asked on this thread. PLEASE NOTE - UPDATED CONTEST RULES - as of August 3, 2009 1) The contest has been extended for one additional month (September 30) to allow participants to order parts and/or have more time to submit their entry. 2) At the request of RailBricks magazine, trains larger than 6-studs wide may be entered; however, there is a 8-stud wide limit, AND the train must run on standard Lego track. 3) Custom train wheels may be used for contest entries. All entries are to be posted in Train Tech with the following syntax: TTCE: (name of your creation) TTCE = Train Tech Contest Entry Please do not combine entries (for different categories) under one thread. Images will be posted to an entry thread managed by one of the moderators. REMINDER All entries must be your own creations created after the announcement of this contest. The contests is now closed for entries. Images of the entries will now be compiled for voting. Entry Thread I: Category 1 & 2 Entries Entry Thread II: Category 3 Entries
  9. The group creates a makeshift sleeping area in the center of the large 2nd floor room. Using wood for pillows and sawdust for bedding, it provides a very uncomfortable place in which to rest, but still the desire to sleep is overwhelming. The agreement between the group is that a few would take shifts staying awake to watch the others. The order of volunteers is 1) Max, 2) Steve Thomas, 3) Pete Smith, 4) Lorraine, and 5) Grill n' George. For those of you participating, please send me a private message (PM) with your "Night Move". Please call the PM "Mill Move" providing the specific time of your action (between 11:00 pm and 7:00 am) and what you will attempt to do during the night. These actions may or may not be successful depending on the other moves. No one may stay up the entire night, if you try to do this. If I don't hear from you, I may "write-in" your action or assume you slept the whole night through. Good night John Boy...
  10. I was searching through some old pictures recently, and came across this video I had taken of Ghost Train, part of the Grave Stone collection. I thought it would be interesting to share here on Brick Flicks. It has been destroyed for some time, but the video lives on.
  11. Murder on the Emerald Express Chapter 12: A Night in the Mill The group has discovered the corpses of two individuals in the mill, as well as the discarded murder weapon. While no one is fond of the idea to stay the night within the old wooden mill, they have decided that it's much safer than travelling through the forest at night -or is it? One or more of the group hides a sinister secret, believed to be part of an evil Town Council. Will he/she attempt to thwart the efforts of the group to escape the strange town of Willoughby? Unlock the mysteries in Chapter 12 of Murder on the Emerald Express, A Night in the Mill.
  12. After the morbid sight in the basement, the group returns upstairs. While no one is quite fond of spending the night in the mill, they have decided it's safter than returning to the town through the forest at night. End Chapter 11
  13. Eskallon: There's a few games in the queue, and I'd like to see you hold off on this until the others have been played. We usually try to have no more than 1-2 games running at the same time. Post your interest in the pinned Index above, and someone will add this game to the list. We'll temporarily hold this until your turn. -Sounds interesting.
  14. I was thinking of a .jpg or other image file.
  15. Great decals VH! Is there any way you can share them in a different format for those of us that don't use MLCAD? I esp. like the "DB" decals.
  16. I smell a train mystery in the making...
  17. Schmelt, Steve, and Pete begin searching the bodies like a couple of deranged hyenas. Nothing is found on the female; however, the male has something in his pocket. It's a wallet! Opening up the wallet, they discover an old tattered Willoughby drivers license with the name, William Chamberlain. The birth date and address have worn off, but the picture looks like a match. Nothing more is found on the bodies. Mark fills the kerosene lamp with kerosene from the barrel but looks around as he discovers that he doesn't have any matches... "Anyone got a match"? he asks. Jim Butcher checks the gun discovered in the water barrel. It's a revolver with six bullets. Two bullets are missing. Jim then asks everyone to show their train pins. You can see I have mine. I never take mine off! Present and accounted for. I use to have a pin, but it seems mine has stangely come up missing? (looks around group suspiciously) Mein pin is here! Sure...show off those Train Tech pins, but do any of you have a Classic Space pin? That's right, look but don't touch... I'm not trading it with any of you! Arin follows Herman quickly up the stairs as he feels someone "goose" him . Austin looks up and smiles.
  18. If you are looking for a train-related topic within the Trains & Town forum, moderators are in the process of performing a little "forum clean-up". They will be restored August 1.
  19. Wow! These are truly fantastic MOCs Cale. I think you can fit train builders into two distinct categories, those that build incredibly detailed creations like these; and the other who create very basic/classic style Lego trains (like me). You are definately in the first category. I absolutely love the passenger wagons that are so reminiscent of classic American train engines. The colors are perfect for these wagons, and the detailing superb. These actually make the Emerald Night's passenger wagon look like a lesser model. In fact, they don't even look like Lego, but rather like detailed HO or O-scale trains. I'm going to take a little time and look at these terrific MOCs to appreciate all the fine details. This post definately deserves a spot in Train Tech. Fantastic!
  20. Interesting question Richie. I don't think I have the pieces needed to try this design, but perhaps some of the other train fans have tried different techniques in regard to "coupling". I'm sure one or more of them have tried a creative design. Anyone?
  21. Because all your 9V trains would need to be retro-fitted with PF motors and battery boxes (or huge R/C motors (not available in any set other than the two R/C train sets). That would be pretty costly. With 9V track, I can run my PF, R/C and 9V trains. That's three out of four different systems.
  22. Jim Butcher reaches into the barrel containing water, feels around, and pulls out a gun. WARNING: Adult Content! The group then decides to continue into darkness as the smell grows stronger by the footstep. The flashlight shines upon something lying upon the cobblestone ground. It appears to be two dead bodies, one male, one female. In looking at the ghastly white corpses, you can not help to realize that you have seen these two individuals somewhere before. Yes, you have. While their skin has begun to rot, you realize that these are the people whose pictures you saw within Jennifer's locket. They're bodies have been thrown within the dark room admist the most shallowest of graves... the damp basement floor. While the sight is revolting, you are forced to look upon their skeletal-like bodies, realizing that they have suffered death by gunshot wounds. Half of the group runs out of the basement while the others stare at the gruesome sight.
  23. A closer look at the barrels reveal a total of four, all containing a variety of supplies. Barrel #1 is filled with what smells like kerosene, about half-full, most likely caused by evaporation. Barrel #2 is filled with pickles. The sour odor is pretty strong without the lid. Barrel #3 is filled with fuel, also about half empty. Barrel #4 is filled with what looks like water, but it's not too clear (sort of murky). The crates contain a variety of rotten food including potatoes and onions, some canned goods (pork & beans, veggies, stew), four bottles of wine, and some pickling jars. The smell coming from the distance is pretty strong...
