  1. Very nice layout KD. I like the level of organization and planning that you've put into your town. I especially like the park plan. Nice job!
  2. Thanks for the feedback KD. I'm glad you like it! Is this a track layout or just town? I had added one topic with Layouts and Displays, but this was really meant to show tabletop and train show displays. Perhaps another topic related to Digital Designed Layouts and/or Track Plans?
  3. Could you give us an idea of what you are looking for. Are you creating a train movie?
  4. Excellent! I think you'll enjoy our Lego train community. Please share your interests in the Train Tech Registry. What exactly is a Pelmet Box?
  5. I will be out of town starting tomorrow morning through the end of Thursday. The mystery will continue Friday. Sorry for having to pause the game. I suggest you guys venture out of the mill now that it's daylight and consider checking out something else. EDIT: Please don't shoot anyone while I'm gone.
  6. Very nice entry Selander! I love the color combination with that fantastic dark green and dark grey stripe. Your creation has that nice European cargo train style, and it stayed true/similar to official Lego train engines. With double engines, I bet this can pull a pretty good load. Excellent and I will post an entry thread soon. Great job!
  7. It does have to be physically built, meaning NO digital designs. See question above.
  8. Now, now, ladies and gentlemen. I don't think that we should resort to shooting and axing our suspected Town Council members. We are merely creating a lynch mob! Yes, I have to agree with Mr. Butcher. That's what your name is, isn't it? No one's going to be shoot'n any citizen of Willoughby. I admit that something fowl is at play here, but perhaps one or more of you City folks have brought it with you. Until I know for sure, I MAY ask all of you to turn in your weapons for lock-down, that is if you keep talking crazy like this!
  9. A rope is found hanging on one of the walls and is quickly used to tie up Grill 'N George nice and tight.
  10. Thanks for sharing Sava. Interesting design to combine the tracks. This will be very useful in adding a few grey track sections to my 9V layout (for a track building scene). Nice!
  11. Sorry H, but I think this is stretching it a bit. The train must run on standard Lego track, as opposed to monorail track. Perhaps you can make a monorail-style train, like the ICE or more modern passenger train. Sure, although there has been a few HP trains; one nice one just shared by Dave/TOT-LUG.
  12. Lego train fans gather around the tracks for this exciting announcement regarding Eurobricks' latest contest! In honor of TRAIN MONTH in August and the grand opening of the Train Tech train forum, Eurobricks and RailBricks have combined efforts to bring you the Train Tech Building Contest. Three separate categories allow train enthusiasts to build a Complete Train, a Single Train Car, or Trackside Structure. The grand prize will be an official Lego Emerald Night train set (from Eurobricks), as well as two custom train sets provided by RailBricks as 2nd and 3rd place winners. The contest ends September 30, 2009. Make sure you don't pass on this great train contest! Click HERE for contest details.
  13. I've updated the contest rules on the first page. Please note the new changes: Yes, custom wheels will be allowed. We've extended the contest until September 30, 2009, to give more people a chance to participate.
  14. Hi VS. It's great to see more Lego fans interested in Lego trains. If you are seriously considering the purchase of a train, while the Emerald is a real beauty, you will need the items that Polish Guy mentioned above. In addition, you will also need a circle or oval of track to run the train. Having just purchased 7898 R/C (Remote Controlled) Cargo Train Deluxe last month, I must say that I like it very much. It cost me $150 (US) (not including 9 AA batteries) but includes the track (with 8 straight and two points/switch tracks), and four very nice wagons/cars. In addition, the truck and forklift provide a little extra to sweeten the package. I think 7898 makes a great starter set, even though its R/C system is obsolete. The passenger train is a lot cheaper but doesn't have all the great cargo wagons. While the Emerald Night is one of Lego's most nicely designed trains, it does require the Power Functions package, track, and doesn't offer all the great train parts that come with 7898. I would recommend 7898 Cargo Train as an excellent starter set. Good luck and please let us know what you end up with.
  15. Over the years, I've admired many train layouts (in pictures as well as digital designs), but have noticed one piece that's not used very often. That piece is 4519 Rail Crossing, for 9V layouts. Is this piece a difficult part to add to a layout? Do smaller layouts NOT afford an opportunity to use this piece? Have you used 4519 in your layouts? Is 7996 Rail Crossing for R/C Trains a better rail crossing? How well do you like this track piece? Discuss Rail Crossing 4519 here.
  16. I've seen a similar door design when looking at some ideas for building an Orient Express train. I also like the way you created the round windows by using the two arches. That looks great! EDIT: BTW, what's the center 1x2 brick for? Is that meant to be a light or just for added design?
  17. That's a great idea. I'd love to see more "Train Building Tips" myself. I have one that I'd like to share, but not sure how to go about sharing (with instructions). I'd also encourage you and others to share one or more if you have any.
  18. Interesting point. While it is a beautiful engine, tender, and passenger wagon, it could definately use a few more wagons. At the same time, how many Lego trains offered a few additional cars, with maybe the exception of the Super Chief? Many were in fact single engine sets or engine with just one or two cars. I would still say that based on exquisite detail, the Emerald is a great model.
  19. Now that's a fantastic display unit! Very nice job Paul. I'm impressed.
  20. A topic will be created for the entries. Is your entry ready to go? If so, you can share your entry under a new topic called: TTCE: XXXX - for Train Tech Contest Entry X = The name of your creation
  21. Trying to compare the wounds with the weapons that were discovered on the floor is rather difficult, as many of the weapons are in fact dull after years of cutting/use. No "exact matches" are discovered, but they all have blood on them. The group takes Hans and Scruffy outside the mill where they conveniently find a few shovels leaning up against the wall. They dig a shallow grave, then a little deeper resting Hans and Scruffy inside. A few pieces of wood nearby serve as a makeshift grave marker.
  22. I was wondering why you didn't provide a night move - but that's okay, no problem. And Zepher: in case your reading, have fun in Puerto Rico!
  23. AJ: This truly is a fantastic collection of great 12V sets. I absolutely love your collection, and how I wish that I had a chance to pick up some of these classic trains again (at a reasonable price). Your layout is equally impressive. How many pieces of track do you think you have in your layout? EDIT: This deserves a BLOG!
  24. Hans Beckmen and Scruffy the Mystery Dog R.I.P. :skull:
