Gosh, I do a lot of this for my friends from abroad correcting English all the time. 'Every day I clean my teeth with the toothbrush.' I guess that could be correct but we would not actually say it like that. I would say 'Everyday I clean my teeth with my toothbrush.' Or even, 'I clean my teeth with a toothbrush everyday.'

Not myself but I have been accused of causing them. When I was younger (Around 20.) I was visiting a friend and his partner, they had a young daughter and we played with her LEGO. I built a tank (They had some of those old rubber tracks that went with the red wheels.) and we played that it was squashing some figures she had and doing tank stuff. A couple of days afterwards my friend told me that the girl had woken up in the night screaming claiming that a large LEGO tank was after her and going to crush her. I guess that is why TLG don't make military sets?

Yes very nice coaches. I agree that things are hard sometimes to find on bricklink. When I order I always just check through the store on the modified plates section and add any odd ones that may come in useful at some point in the future.

I have used it in a similar way to others, for buffers, filling small gaps where stuff does not line up quite etc. But I have to admit that I do not really like it, mainly down to it looking so un-track like, it does not look like it fits with the rest of the system.

I've built a few buildings at 32 X 48 and i tend to use a sandwich of plates of varying sizes, (As I like odd shapes on the outer walls.) the floors tend to be three plates thick made of various overlapping ones. But I do tend to have quite a few internal walls. I tile the top of the walls on each floor so the next floor sits flat on top of it and then use the 1 stud wide plates as spacers underneath the floor in various locations so they don't slide about.

I have to agree that the Space Girl is one of the better figures and the ship is a good fit for her. How does her ADU colleague feel about it, did he get one of the cheaper ones?

1. Male. 2. 44. 3. Don't know, I had from before the point of my earliest memory which would be arounf three years old so before then. 4. Blacktron and Classic Space. Because it is grim and dark and space. (I also like Warhammer 40K so it is like a LEGO version, or Travellor/Laser Burn as things were when those themes were released.) 5. Because I can build what I like with as little or much effort as I feel i want to put into it without having to wait for paint or glue to dry.

What childhood names did you have for parts?
Hrw-Amen replied to caperberry's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I did not really have any names as such. My father and I used to build stuff together and we just called them bricks or plates that were defined by the number studs in much the same way that we would today. For example a 2X4 Brick or whatever. The only thing I recall other than that was the tiles which we also called smooth plates because of the lack of studs. But as we did not have that many back then it did not really matter. -
Really nice it would be great to see it incorporated into a larger layout built to the same standard.

MOC: WD 42 'Overlord' 0-4-0 Diesel
Hrw-Amen replied to LEGO Train 12 Volts's topic in LEGO Train Tech
It is a nice little shunter, I'd like to have one like that in my own set. -
Interesting but they did not explain why LEGO is a fire hazard? Is it normally a fire hazard and we just don't worry about it on Earth or is there something specific to space that makes it burst into flames after two hours? If it is going to do that then how is simply taking it apart again going to help as you still have all the same bricks just stored in a smaller box?
-
Is there any way as an alternative to chroming plastic bricks they could make actual bricks but out of some sort of steel or other metal that would shine up? Would they be too heavy or lack clutch power, get finger-printy more than the platic ones or simply be too expensive?
-
Yes I have done this a few times, not with anything too expensive though, main ly to get some helmets and black visors as I had a load of old Blacktron minifigs but they were without the helmets or some of them did not have the proper black visors.
-
I can't say I am a huge fan of too much chrome. When I was younger with long hair and a big moustache (No longer fortunately!)I had a custome low rider that was nearly all chrome apart from the tank and seat, it was a nightmare to keep the thing clean!! As for LEGO I don't mind a little bit if it is in an appropriate place on a model that it would be expected to be on, like the wheels of a truck or the grill and so on, but I would try and limit it to maybe just the grill or just the bumper or something otherwise it can look overpowering. I would prefer to have proper genuine LEGO bits rather than ones chromed later, but that is down to my preference. I know that there are not that many bits made by LEGO and as said i suspect it is down to cost. Maybe they will find a better way of doing it in the future? So to sum up, it is OK in its place, but little highlights are definately better than a huge amount.

Will have to look out for it next time I am passing through on my way to Jakarta. Looks good, has it been there long I have never noticed it before?

What's with Lego sets nowadays?
Hrw-Amen replied to Squishy Stelactite's topic in General LEGO Discussion
In general I want to agree with what most people here have said. The thing that gets me nowadays though with the way sets are made is the use of large panels or big bricks, when back in the 70's & 80's you would have to build a wall out of interlocking bricks (To make it stronger as my father always said like a real building.) whereas now you just throw up a line or even just a couple of large panels with some plates along the top. Having said that I think the overall design of most sets is good, they just could probably do the same in many cases with a lot fewer types (Although admittedly in bigger quantities.) of bricks/plates etc whilst making it a more interesting build. -
What minifigs are we missing - post your detailed suggestions here
Hrw-Amen replied to CopMike's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Perhaps they should do a Costumes of the World range of mini-figs similar to the collectable ones. Then they could produce a male and female in everyones national dress? -
This is quite an interesting model in many ways, both as a LEGO model which is an accurate representation of the original but also in what it represents. How does the original work do you know? Does it get power from the cables as it lays/hangs(?) them or does it have some other typr of engine to move it, or does it have to be towed by a shunter? I like to see details like this on layouts as they make scenes look so much more realistic.

Hasbro's Kre-o! Is Lego seriously going to let this happen?
Hrw-Amen replied to Omegablue's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I think the only thing to slightly worry about from TLGs perspective is that I have heard several people in several different shops refer to 'LEGO's Kre-O range' and how disappointed they were with them when bought for their son/daughter. It would appear that many people for whatever reason do actually think that Kre-O is made by TLG, whereas I have not heard that so much of other clone brands. -
I think it could be done but would takes lots of small bits, so if you don't have them then it is understandable. With LEGO you can do most things given enough bits. Having said that it is hard to make good Star Trek stuff due to the curves and I quite like your Enterprise. I think you've done a good job with a few bits available especially on the shape of the saucer.
-
Mini Daleks are good idea. But have to agree that the saucer needs more greebles to make it look more space ship like.
-
Yes that is what I was expecting as well. It seems like a nice colour and design for the bedroom and the scene is a nice one. The man looks a little zombie like (I hink it is the pale shirt with pale colour walls.) is he supposed to be the monster from under the bed that people are talking about as that would be a bit creepy? Is there a monster under the bed, or is it the fact that the father is the monster the thing? Does this scene come from a movie or TV show?
-
Very M and Tronny! Needs some Blacktron invaders I think to steel those containers! Nice work, good to see some very old space stuff getting attention.
-
Yes, I've been around the local shops feeling for them. It takes a while but they are easy to make out because of the helmet and ridges on the guns. I've got a few more now.

Who is the little robot at the side, he looks a little sad? It made me smile though to see this MOC!!
