  1. After seeing this newer photos of 42070 I think it is regular medium azure like in 42050… not a new dark azure in the technic lineup. I would wonder if it really is dark azure. In this case there must be at least 10 parts in new color which is much more than in other sets, but would otherwise explain the price. For example the 3x11 shell panel is always available so TGL can reuse this piece. Makes imho more sense for me. It is great to see how TLG forwarded the blue parts this year, started by medium blue in the yet and ended by the flagship and in between the new earth blue parts in the ship. For me 2017 is absolutely blue shaded and I love it...... Has anybody noticed the blue headlights in the tow truck? They are build as two blue globes behind the transparent panel on each side. At one close lookup it seems that they are lighting behind the transparent panel, but the box does not show lights as PF-elements and there is no room to mount lights...a bit strange and maybe lighting in the environment .... I see 11L axle finally coming in LBG with 42069
  2. Agreed. I really like the idea behind this set and I think the gearbox is still interesting. For me a true flagship
  3. Such a gearbox setup with "additional functions" seems unlogic. This would meen that the truck can drive and operate the crane at the same time if booth levers are not in neutral position wich makes no sense for such a model. The driving part is highly decoupled from other functions. The lever on drivers position simply controls the wish of drive or none drive and the lever on other position controls the current 2 crane / outtrigger operations. This setup means that there are only 2 functions active and switching the Operation lever has no effect when using drive mode. This is called 3-way-gearbox like in the unimog
  4. Sorry, did not see the UW. Yes that is a cool fact that Uwe build this thing. In my opinion the best designer. I'am very happy that this year it is not a Kossmann-Flagship. 6WD-drive seems very interesting. There must be at least 4 differentials in this set. One for each axle and 2 between the axles like the Unimog. In this case we have 5 differentials in this set. Maybe the 2 back axles are connected together so there are 4 differentials. All in all this summer wave seems very good. 42070 together with 42069 gives us perfect models for Trial and RC mocs.
  5. But the 42030 Volvo has 4 Motors and 2 Receivers which is more a PF partpack. I also think 250€ is the correct price because this set uses many special and expensive parts (6 Xerion wheels, many differentials, LA's [small, big]). Maybe the new dark azure is expensive too or exklusive to this set. I really think the 42070 is more special than it looks like. The most challenging part by designing this thing may sync the functions again to the control pad. There are 4 Forward/backward/up/down operations and 2 sidewise (steering, crane turning). When putting the stick up the truck must drive forward - in the second RC mode the crane must elevate up when putting the stick up and also the whinch must go out and not back. This is what I mean why this model has flagship Status. I can imagine that the playability is just great and the manual switching seems OK. No one will drive and operate the crane at the same time.
  6. yes 42069 and 42070 may be vise versa. I think Alfred because he had no 2016 model and the truck was canceled in this year. Furthermore he build all past models in this scale ... 42024 ... 42008
  7. I think the 42070 uses a 3-way-gearbox which controls the XL and M-Motor in parallel. On one side the lever simply controls between driving or not driving and the other side controls which crane mode is operated when the lever is in "none driving mode". This meens 3 manual selected RC-modes. It makes sense that the outtriggers and crane elevation are together in one mode and the whinch and rotation in the other mode. For the gearbox, the truck should be use 4 driving rings: 2 for selecting driving or none driving for each motor and 2 for selecting the operation mode (parallel lever) also for each motor. I have noticed that there must be a driving ring going through the turntable to power the actuator and the winch. We have seen this mechanism for 5 years ago last time in the 2012 logging truck. The designer of 42068 is 100% Alfred Pederson in my opinion and the designer of 42070 is Michal T. and for 42069 Uwa Wabra. The 42070 tow truck can not use servo motor because this motor is required for other "normal" operations. By the way the setup of M-motor together with XL make it possible to use the "old" receiver and not the new one which is called 2.0. This makes the set even cheaper but 250€ is not really cheap... Edit: It seems that the main gearbox is located under the cabin near the tanks. Furthermore I think the truck does not have a powered fake engine. Instead, the motors are located under the hood.
  8. Sure ... as flagships. But each not before 2021 ;)
  9. Nope. The redesigned firetruck has the number 42068 so we have a missing (pneumatic) set 42067.
  10. Exactly... But to stay on topic I think the unknown set 42067 is the pneumatic set for this year with manual pump. Maybe a smaller set with 800 parts. Can speculate to a forklift or anything similar to 8443 from 1996. By the way it is another fact (pattern) that since pneumatic 2.0 we will see exactly one model with pneumatics in the year.
  11. For what? We are all speculating
  12. A pattern seems to be not only for kinds of sets, but also for sets that uses some kinds of parts and colors. A really interesting thing is the fact that every three years we see a large truck with the same wheels. Starting 2006 with Wabra's black tow-truck. In 2009 we had the red truck with same wheels also by Wabra, followed by forester truck 2012 also by this Designer. Three years later we had Arocs by Markus. And now what a surprise we can 99% expect a truck with these wheels as the first half flagship for 2018 and the pattern goes on. But whats about colors? We have learned that exclusive colors are not exclusive forever. The two 2017 waves includes sets with many shades of blue (I count azure for 42070 as blue). Furthermore we will see in 2018 not so much blue cause the 2017 sets remain in stores. After blue I think TLG goes back to 42039 bright green and we will see parts with this color again in 2018 and also for the new purple color. In short I think 1H18 flagship is a truck with Arocs wheels (pattern mentioned before) similar to forester or any kind of garbage truck which is not blue... I did not count 42009 with this wheels because this type of machine is in another scale. The trucks with same wheels in the three-year-pattern are all nearly the same scale
  13. It is an exclusive set which does not count for my speculation :D. But a mentioned pattern is not far away. For example we are getting bikes every two years (2009, 2011, 2013, 2015 and now 2017 BMW). Additionally we are getting Quads every 3 years (2009, 2012, 2015 pullback) so we can expect a new (mini) quad in 2018.
  14. I talked about bigger 2H sets with front winch and not the smaller ones. You will see the 42069 has a PF-upgradable front winch in it. Otherwise I cancel my account ;)
  15. I think we can expect a redesigned 42051 for 42068 as mentioned before. Functions seems to be manual driving and steering and a operatable boom with turning, The functions of the boom should be booth powerfunction upgradable and in the model it is enough room to hide the battery-pack and the M-Motor. Maybe we get a third surprising feature here. I also think the 42069 is something like the 42038 B-model, with a winch in the front + another function that is powerfunction upgradable. In the past we are getting models with front-winch every 3 years in the second wave. 2008 in the Jeep, 2011 in the Unimog, 2014 in the 42028 Jeep and so 2017 in the 42069.
  16. I'm very sure that Firetruck 42068 is the canceled 42051 and the designer is Alfred Pederson. This set is to 99% ready for Powerfunctions because we are missing such two sets in 2017 so they have to come in 2H. The Firetruck seems to be red and I dont think it uses yellow pneumatics in it. Finally it is possible that we will see the cutted 11x5 flat Panel in red and also the 3x4x5 seat-panel in red.
  17. just my guess, but seems logic. By the way the truck must use Receiver 2.0 (from 9398) because servo and XL is too heavy
  18. I have been reading this topic for a while and want make some statement. I really like the medium azure color and are very happy to see it in a flagship model. The front grill in red looks ugly but can easily changed to DBG whish looks imho more better. The Controlling with 2 motors for the gearbox transmission seems unlogic to me, especially we only have 1 receiver and only 1 IR. I think this thing is solved quite genius and has only 1 servo and 1 XL-Motor. This forces the PF-parts down and makes this model no so expensive. The servo is mainly for steering and the XL for 6x6-drive. A manual lever on a gearbox control either steering-driving-mode or operation mode. In the operation mode, the servo is used to switch between a 4-way-gearbox like the paddle-shaft-system in the 42065 Porsche and the XL simple drive the selected function. In this case, it is only possible to manage one function and the gearbox can privode stabilisation, crane rotation, whinch and crane extension. This engineering makes it possible to have 6 powerfunction operations with only 2 motors (servo, XL). The manually switching is OK, because you only want drive or only want operate the crane, but not both at the same time
