The low slung nature of the French loco makes it pretty difficult to get the look...

Perhaps M**ld Kings newest release might be more your speed Medieval, apparently it even comes with a circle of R104

Ive sat down and blown up the image as much as possible, and this is my guess in stud.io for the cargo trainsets locomotive. from what i can tell, its got a little bit of snot on the front and the centre seems a little odd steeping in at such a low height, i maintain its all a bit of a guess, but if it's anything similar, its a bit of a brute. (edit) as the leak arrive i was way off haha

hi all, seems my lego A4 was discovered, heres a better picture of he near completion, just waiting for some new bricks to appear to finish her off. this engine was based off this Brickshelf alternate to 10194 by user Mugen. http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=482862 with the addition of more bricks and a re-designed tender. unfortunately, i have no instructions for my particular model, but i certainly can take her apart in the following days to show you all how the streamlined casing was made ;) hope this helps.

The only thing undermining that would be the crocodile (albeit looking a bit dated) in the hobby train set..... And just imagine the valve gear on that too....
-
Hmm... Maybe something like USTAC S160? That has a huge market potential considering the countries it was used in.... Or German wise, a BR80? Something small, but still power functions equip-able?

In my opinion, its nice to see this set appear and I'd be keen to atleast purchase one, but, I'm a bit miffed as others are that they try to push the pizza and bike shops again, there could be so many different possibilities to spice them up, for example, that pizza shop could be a sandwich bar with little attractive 1x1 sandwiches. The bus, if Lego played its cards right, could be incorporated into a train station.... But, I have the old city corner from '09, it's a guilty pleasure to buy this set, besides, two competing pizza shops in Lego city..... ;)

Beware: eBay fraud -- Train MOC instructions
mikka says replied to Steinkopf's topic in LEGO Train Tech
tbh, i'll freely hand out LDD files, but only if the AFOL makes contact with me via email. which means i can assure whos getting what ^^ -
this brings down the cost considerably of a set, i remember it was another $100 Au to power the emerald night.... this means that kiddies can get hold of the set at a cheaper cost. i was looking back at the old catalogues and the 7710 passenger train (which was a push train) seems to be fond memories of alot of my friends that bought their lego back in the 80's..... the lack of power conversion is left up to the aspiring child or AFOL, which i can fortell, will have some nifty tender Moc solutions appearing several weeks after this set is released.... push trains arent all that bad either, child minding has made me realise that kids dont want a controller for the train, they want to be part of the action, and if thats pushing the train along and making the good old "chuff chuff" noise, so be it.

to be brutally honest, i was hoping for lego to release a push train for the lego city range, but. im going to have to eats those words in the train speculation page (i'll post a link to me eating screencaps of eurobricks on youtube, later ;)....) but, it looks like a well rounded set. it has the stuff for a kid that loves trains and currently doesnt own a sizeble amount of train lego, and also for someone who loves the movie, and if anything, a Big Tender Moc, to incorporate the power functions guff, would be the best way to have these nicely designed steamers hauling trains around the layout. I, for one will take a delight into getting atleast one of these 4-6-0's up to a runnable and acceptable looking standard for train shows. considering many of us in our train group have some lovely steam locomotives, but due the roughness of tables and track (not to mention the trainset geometry) its a deathwish that not even i want to take the risk of...... so, set me down for two, please :D

how is it being discontinued before 7939? that's really weird seeing as the red one was produced after the yellow one. :/
-
Unfortunately, when buying 4 of the sets, I know I'll be paying $120 extra than the Americans will be... I could seriously be using that money for another steam loco.... Or another moc. I just wish Lego could produce a flat out price for these trains.....
-
And that's why we don't see any Moc's in the train tech forum.......(sarcasm, ladies and gentlemen) Seriously, if someone needs another wagon, they can get parts and build one, that's fundamentally how the Lego train system works. Lego does its bit and then leaves it up to a persons imagination. Why would they bother producing extra wagons and coaches when it would put a damper on creativity within the brand. And honestly the fire brigade toys are a lot more popular as the firemen are considered public hero's and the childhood fascination with fire... Spare me the thought if Lego became more of a collect-a-thon, than a building toy....

lego's demographic hasnt changed that much sine the super cheif, it's been widely known that they dont sell well, TLG will not risk making stuff it knows it cannot sell... 10 years insnt long enough to for the market to change into a "buy as you go" mindset.... the train sets sell, as it is in itself a complete SYSTEM. you can run it independantly without the need of extra parts... And i feel that TLG is trying to help us with the train set's, to provide us with the parts to actually build the trains we want...
-
thanks for the update eric, as even though, the BBB one might become the new standard, i'd rather have something that sill looks like it was made by TLG.... and i realised, ive looked at code 250 nickel silver rail online..... will BBB 9v track be affordable, or will it be exclusively a rich man's trainset?
-
agreed, i find tons of enjoyment out of building what i need and want, not always being directed by the hands of "the company".... although, one thing i would love to see is a train set like the 7710 back from the 1980's,an unpowered steam tank loco, 2 coaches with doors, a circle of track and a station. it could mean that little "jonny" (yeah peter, i like that as a personification of the lego market, hehe....), could have a complete set, and that if he saved his money, or waited till christmas, his parents could get a Power Functions kit and some straights and flex to add to his train set. and honestly, kids dont always need a super, dooper, fancy all electric R/C train in their possession. i've babysat quite a few kids that are totally lego mad. and for some reason, they'd rather push the lego trains about than use a battery RC train. it's just kids want to be hands on with lego. and think about the cost difference, you're quite literally looking at axing $60 from a potentially massive price that would put parents off buying such a big set just by ditching the power functions. it'd be the easiest way to get a lego train set. not to mention the most cost effective (no liscence, no new parts, alot of standard practice building)
-
well, the emerald night stayed on a little while after the maersk was released, so my bet is that it might be discontinued, sometime around february/march. but, if you want the train, dont wait till it's announced to be discontinued. buy it as soon as possible. on that note, anybody remember the final amazon listings of the EN, and how their numbers dropped by the hour as supplies dried up? i found those posts on this section quite amusing..... :)
-
I'm not sure what to make of it, it seems a novel idea, but I think it just seems to stray so far away from the TLG's track......
-
i know it's a bit heartbreaking for diehard TGV fans that the scheme isnt properly represented, but you'll just have to deal with it of modify the parts included. it was exactly the same with the emerald night. the colour scheme was wrong. we dealt with it. and considering it isn't a scale model (this taking into account None of TLG's trains are scale models in any respect) i think Lego have the artistic liscence to bring it up to the standard of their city sets, and to give it a modern look.... also, notice the trian staff minifigures are in the "Lego Rail" outfits and not SNCF ones, so im sure that this is supposed to be a TGV for Legoland, not a french one....
-
to the gentleman who was complaining about the new set bet being orange and black, instead of orange and grey..... have you realised every photo of the real TGV looks "old". i'd atribute that to the grey on the train.... lego wants their train set to be flashy enough to sell. black looks alot more modern when paired with orange than gray does.... and im i going to be the only one looking out for 6 blue wedges from the railway express set?
-
i went and had a look back at james mathis' original one. i can see a few similar elements, but i will say, something just seems right with this design, not only is it a new style of building by TLG itself, but it's encouraging other AFOL's to take a brick sized gander at our train tech. i will most certainly be looking forward to buying, at the very least 2 sets of this train. so it's a decent length and prototypically correct (with the two power cars as standard).... shame i cant pre-order 4 months in advance :P ah well.

Do Train Fans Look Down on Harry Potter Trains?
mikka says replied to Artifex's topic in LEGO Train Tech
i sort of dont see any of us train fans "looking down" as you perceive it. it's a very nice train. but as its been there for a while, it uses constuction designs to make it easy for kids to build, not to faithfully represent a steam loco. but i dont think it makes it any less attractive for train fans. In all honesty though, i'd love to get the train, (minus car and minifigures) and modify it with some proper wheels and pushrods (big bens Medium ones) and just mod some of the features to make it look like the engine it originally intended to represent. -
well after some changes in detail, im glad to say i'm leaving this project in a completed state. it has be fairly modified to get rid of the red and light bley, also the splashers were removed and firebox modified to suit the prototype more. i numbered it D3, 688. it from what i know is stored in an inoperable condition at one of steamrail's victorian compounds. no doubt i'll be nagging steamrail to paint it emerald green when they by chance restore the real thing. :D anyway, more pics the rods are a custom job. and run quite smoothly. if you want to see more photos of the D3 my Flickr streamis here. :) Cheers,
