Technic 2017 Set Discussion
Ivan_M replied to CM4Sci's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
You are comparing apples and oranges, RRP vs online sale price, just wait till the shops are supplied and first batch is sold, prices will stabilize then. RRP for Xerion is 149,99€, cheapest online sub 100€. -
Looks terrrific, works even better. I'm surprised how one LA can raise the whole back, the lever is big and weight of the back must be also quite high.
-
You are right, it doesn't lock itself, the setup I have used is almost the same as on Xerion but I have replaced the liftarm that touches the ground from 7L to bend 6x4 liftarm. This setup lock itself much further "down". I will try 4x4 bend liftarm but I think that the bend on liftarm prevents locking. But without the bend the folded outridges are too wide and ugly.
-
Finally I had some time to rework outridges, here is what I came up with: 20170701_205903 by Ivan Moc, on Flickr 20170701_205924 by Ivan Moc, on Flickr I also improved by 100% inner structure under the cab. The friction to fake engine was reduced a lot. Now, when I push the truck, it will roll much further before stopping and CV joints stays in position even when I push suspension and roll it. I also looke into building steps and I think I will manage to make instructions in pdf using LPub. The build can be splitted into 5-6 modules. I'm still not sure about the outridges, what do you think?

It is only new tread, otherwise it is similar to 56898: https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=56898#T=S&C=11&O={"color":11} But I agree it looks better. I would rather see thin 49,5mm tires- 5,465 replies

Technic 2017 Set Discussion
Ivan_M replied to CM4Sci's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I watched video of 42069 again and this set really needs some kind of minifig. There is a lot of (non-technic) play features like first aid kit, gasoline containers, sleeping section etc., but no figure to play with. Lego is using 3x6x3 curved panel as seat more and more so making a figurine to suit it would be fine. Old technic figures are too large and I think more simple one would be sufficient. -
Thanks for the advise and kind words, I know what you mean, I have experimented with such setup and the problem is that retracted outriges were too wide and stayed too low limiting ground clearance. I know that outridges are probably the weakest part of the build because I made them last and I was already loosing the enthusiasm

Technic 2017 Set Discussion

The front axle is using portal hubs so it depends if there are uni joints or cv joints, but in either way I'm expecting pivot point too far out of the wheel -
Hi everyone, this is my creation I was working on past 2 months. I'm not thrilled how 42070 looks like and I wanted to build such truck for a long time, so it seemd like good opportunity. The biggest question about 42070 is of course color. For me it is something I cannot accept, that is why I have choose DBG as main color for my build. The model is loosely inspired by KRAZ 255B, but mainly for general dimmensions. It features: - HOG steering with cabin steering wheel connected as well - mini fake V8 engine (based on mini V12 by Crowkillers) connected to both rear axles - Independent front suspension - I know this is not really corresponding to how front axles look like on real trucks, but it just fitted there so nicely I had to leave it like that. Front axle is also not driven because it would mean compromises I don't like - namely more limited turnin radius and pivot point moved more inside. I like setup with 6x4 much more - Rear axles are similar to each other, they are live axles with two shock absorbers on each side. I have tried several designs of rear axles but this setup prooved the best for this type of truck. Travel distance is ~3 studs and axles are not linked to each other so they can be compressed to opposite side without affecting second axle. The four shock absorbers per axle are too stiff however, but they are much better because without symetry the axle can travel forward and backward. Maybe some links would solve this, but I like this setup. - Manual outridges on sides operated from back of the truck. They are weak as kitten. - Manual crane arm with slew, rising by mLA and winch IMGP4997 by Ivan Moc, on Flickr IMGP5000 by Ivan Moc, on Flickr IMGP5001 by Ivan Moc, on Flickr IMGP5002 by Ivan Moc, on Flickr IMGP5003 by Ivan Moc, on Flickr IMGP5005 by Ivan Moc, on Flickr IMGP5006 by Ivan Moc, on Flickr IMGP5007 by Ivan Moc, on Flickr

I would say they are regular blue. The video is oversaturated - look at 3L pins, they are bright as well. Pictures from box or catalogue is showing colors more accuratelly.- 5,465 replies

I don't know why are you so hyped about RRP, take a look at all currently sold sets and compare RRP with actual prices. Fox example Xerion - RRP 149.99€, usual price in local toy store ~120€, cheapest online 100€. Same for Porsche, BWE etc. Remember - high % sale is like magnet for buyers so TLG is just adapting to current trend. And if you cannot/don't want to wait - you have to pay extra. Around 1850 -

Red dog bone is reality, it is shown in catalogue and official video as well. I wonder about other frames, TLG is currently using mostly DBG for frame build, it would be nice to see frames in DBG..- 5,465 replies

And they still come in red in red models like 42029, why TLG is doing this, they obviously have to make them in purple for such sets! I cannot distinguish them from 15L beam- 5,465 replies

Geez that is the last thing on that mold that should be changed. How about making it 1L, that would save much more plastic- 5,465 replies

Really nice build so far, I think the string for bin lift is OK, regular liftarms would be too chubby imo, maybe thin ones might work fine Btw. that amount of blue 5x11 panels , I desperatly seek them but they are very rare and expensive as hell

It seems you were not the only one as BL is swarmed with this color already, which would be strange given this color appeared recently and it is available in no more than 4 sets- 5,465 replies

Full inventory of 75532 Scout trooper is available at BL: https://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemInv.asp?S=75532-1 There are some interesting re-colors like drive ring extension in black: And axle with pin hole in DBG: For me the best news is re-appearance of #2 connector in DBG, 2 pieces are in this set, this color appears after 11 years!- 5,465 replies

Yes Uwe Wabra is designer of 42070. I think he is the (technic) designer that is currently longest time with TLG -
My corner: 20170608_095853 The problem is that some small drawers are completely full. I will have to reorganize some of them, moving parts in colors I don't use away to currently empty drawers in top left corner. There are roughly 7k parts there, tires and pannels are stored in table drawers. I don't keep any models assembled, so I don't have any display shelf.
