LEGO City Undercover being ported to other platforms 2017
Tcm0 replied to npgcole's topic in LEGO Media and Gaming
It's a complete open world. You can't access everything in the beginning (probably so that you can get used to the game without forgetting where you have to go) and the game tries to move you to continue with the story but you aren't forced to do it. You can run around in the world after completing the game. Some quests are on the open world but there are some old school levels, too. It's a relatively large world but they cheated a bit (there is a mountain that you can't fly over and there is a bay in the middle of the map). Still I'd say that it's larger than the world of lego marvel super heroes. You have to complete the story and the side quests to reach 100%. But the side quests can become a bit repetetive and some of them are that you have to collect something etc.- 33 replies

It's probably sufficient to use the 5V output as the new power supply. The max output values normally only apply for the input/output pins.

The education version is already out: wedo 2.0. It probably runs on less than 9V, the rechargable battery is included into the set. It uses BLE (bluetooth low energy) for communications. Currently there are no train motors avaible in the system.
-
Personally I prefer american disel trains over european disel trains although I'm from Europe. They are just prettier. I think that the maersk train looks much better than a european train would do. But I think that the old BNSF and the santa fe trains look really great, too. I didn't buy the HE because it just doesn't look as pretty as both of the other trains to me and it doesn't have this character with all the small details of the emerald night or the maersk train.
-
Maybe they would be successful releasing only one or two "expansion" wagons for 30$ in addition to two or three starter train sets. A complete theme like my own train is probably overkill.
-
Yeah it's probably about the microcontrollers but you still need motor drivers because microcontrollers don't allow much current. There's probably a rechargable battery included into the set (at least for the education version). BTW: the new connector appears to have 6 pins like mindstorms cables as opposite to power functions cables with 4 pins. Philo already took the controller brick apart: http://www.philohome.com/wedo2reverse/cont.htm

They already have the website up since before the toy fair: https://www.lego.com/en-us/creator/products/robo-explorer-31062 I think that they announced back when wedo 2.0 came out that the new power functions will displace the old power functions. But I think that the new system runs on a lower voltage (tho I'm not entirely sure about that). /edit I just found the source that the wedo 2.0 system will displace the old power functions: http://www.technicbricks.com/2016/01/wedo-20-future-of-pf.html " WeDo 2.0 is not compatible with the old WeDo. Although all future PF will be compatible with the new platform introduced with WeDo 2.0."

There are new promo pictures of the agents DLC: http://blog.us.playstation.com/2017/02/14/lego-worlds-assembles-on-ps4-this-march/ It would be really cool to have the mobile command center in the game but I think that we won't get it.
-
Personally I'm very glad that they took the "original" agents because they were the first lego theme that really catched my interest. The picture is from a dev diary on tumblr which only got released there for some reason.

There is going to be a lego agents DLC on release exclusively for PS4. But it will come to other platforms after a 90 days period.

How do you store your trains when not in use?
Tcm0 replied to kiwileaguefan's topic in LEGO Train Tech
I have them standing in the shelf. But they get dusty there. -
Do you have a way to control the speed? Don't give 100% from the beginning but try to build your way up.

Recommendations and strategies for a long time AFOL getting into trains
Tcm0 replied to randomwalk's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Sometimes you can buy 60051 very cheap to get the default train parts (about 75€, you can sell the power functions if you don't want them). You have to bricklink the steam engine wheels if you want to use them (or buy sets where they appear). The emerald night has some serious design flaws but it looks really gorgeous and I like it a lot. But it's probably not worth the current price. I can't say anything to the other 9V trains. I think that people take the signature pictures of the trains from a public brickshelf collection. Not sure if you asked for that but people use BlueBrick to create pictures of their layout. It's really practical to see if your layout fits into the given space. You may have some problems to put the battery box and the ir receiver into the train. Many people put them into the tender (sometimes together with the motor). The advantage of the 9V system is that you only need the train motor. -
They tend to be under covers in germany as well but I've seen serveral cables running along the track (I don't know much about the real train tech but I suppose that it's a savety measure against flooding). I think that I found a picture of them (and I searched half an hour) but it's not very good. Look at the straight lines directly near the left track.

It's not uncommon to see cables running along the track (mainly for switching tracks and level crossings). I think that they should stay visible, too. Maybe they can be hidden in a light gray box or something.

Thanks, that sounds awesome. I'm pretty sure that this will help to get many cool community projects (anyone in for a mindstorms controlled train layout?).

There's already SBrick which is a good alternative to the IR system lego uses. It's bluetooth based and it's range should be sufficient for about everything. Are you going to open source the pinout of the motors?
-
Sorry for not making that clear: I mean a power functions plug that you can connect directly to a battery box, to an official PF IR receiver and even to the SBrick. You don't need the protocoll for that (just the pinout which is very straight forward).

I really wanted a part like this for serveral years. A few ideas for other parts: -A switch motor for the double crossover (7996) -An adapter to power the motor with power functions/9V
