For someone with zero subject matter knowledge (i.e me!) would the boom in 42042 be considered to have true trusses?

42070 Replica by dokludi
MIchaelF replied to dokludi's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Fantastic ability to be able to build a replica from just photos and videos. Hugely impressive; thank you! The link is forwarding to (I'm guessing) your other blog on radio scanning. -
Doug's Ferris Wheel GBC (MOC)
MIchaelF replied to doug72's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Love this idea Doug! I may go back and rebuild the GBC 10 with the red driveshaft and your mechanism for buckets. -
On the fence with this one. Nice video, thank you for posting!

Look forward to seeing it Doug. I ended up rebuilding the crane as I couldn't get the GBC to work either.

42053 - Volvo EW160E
MIchaelF replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
@Jims reviews are so in depth and detailed (and have helped me decide on sets as a Technic newbie) that I'll happily wait. I can only imagine the hours he puts into every review and I sure as sure is couldn't do it. -
Got the orange balls today from PV and have spent hours this evening trying to get it to work properly. Unfortunately I have to give it a big thumbs down The drive train is just too jerky to work properly and the claw timing mechanism is not robust enough to be consistent. The ramp down from the tipper trays also needs modification to make it work properly as the balls jam up in it. It's an interesting build but eventually a big disappointment.

Do the grab claws catch on the conveyor belt and ramp for you @Carl86?

Ahh, the sleeve was fixed too tightly so have that fixed now. Thank you! I don't have a problem with the drive train jerking, but the claws do touch the conveyor belt and don't seem too engage the tipper axle on the ramp very well. I don't have the balls yet though so I need to see what difference the extra few grams make to the rotation.

Where did you see that? Did I miss something in the build?

Just completed this build. Very enjoyable although also somewhat challenging as some steps require partial disassembly of earlier ones, and some connections aren't clear from the diagrams. Only issue I see is the strain on the motor as the arm that flips back and forth reaches it's stops. Just waiting on the balls to arrive now!
