    WIP MOC: funfair

I've finished the buildin' and updated the first post. Some more pictures will follow tonight. I'd love to hear your comments! To the town-moderators: I'd be very thankful if you could take away the WIP from the title of this thread
  2. ROUND 11 Round 11 von HMSCentaur auf Flickr "As the battle drums sound over the cries of the crews, a deafening roar fills the air.Hell Hound has fired her mighty broadside on the Revere who answers the attack together with the Thunderer with the deadly message of their cannons" You will receive damage reports shortly. PS: Capt.JohnPaul... lucky you! I had already uploaded the plan AND I spotted an error in your new order, but I am in a workin' mood. From G7 Revere would be in the firing angle of Thunderer. I maintained the original course of Tunderer and have opened fire, if that is okay with you
  3. Argh! I followed the whole vignette-series and have come to like that caracter! Now you just build another one with a happy ending, sir, or I will get no sleep! on another note: I really like the dirty water feeling and the simplistic, yet realistic touch of the scene, well done again!
  4. This is a great little MOC and would fit in nicely in most towns, well done. And while I love the little green stickers on the bottles I cannot help but think: "noooo, she has written on bricks!" all the time scrap that. I just realized that those are stickers, too - That's why I shouldn't commen without a coffee in my hands
  5. I haven't watched the new Tron, yet, but I really like your design! It's impressive that you've created such a functional look with so few parts. Especially the covering of the rear wheel seems very elegant to me
  6. Good evening from Germany everyone, During the last days I've experimented with a new technique for constructing a brick-built hull. I wanted to use all my pre-fab castle corners in some way and tried to do so by using them as part of a SNOT-hull. I concentrated on a rather clumsy design as I plan to build a bombing ketch to accompany my HMS Centaur. What came out was a bit too clumsy so I turned this small experiment into my first steampunk-MOC, the: HMS bombing vessel "Minotaur" The hull itself is actually very stable and easy to access. I plan on using that design in the future and want to refine it. If anybody wants to give feedback on how to make the lower part more smooth, I'd be thankful! The Minotaur features a big adjustable mortar at the forecastle and some small self-defense swivel guns. To make this a little bit more playable I've also created a VERY small pirate steampunk ship, the "Small Pearl" No, here are the pictures. Comments and criticism appreciated! What do you think of the technique used on the hull? That makes sense as the attacked person should be able to react in the same round. and thank you!
  8. Good Lord, how many round studs had to be bought for this? Astonishing creation of water. This could very well be the best Lego-water i've seen so far. And: if this is not blogged I shall be confused
  9. I like this! It catches the feeling of a real small outpost and does not utilize a single prefab-wall element. Thanks for sharing!
  10. Willkommen bei Eurobricks! Selling your BSB? How could you?! Well, you'll just have to start a ship-MOC then I think you can do ambitious projects without a huge collection, so don't let the piececount discourage you. And Have fun on the boards!
  11. Hey, first of all: I get some strange possibilities to vote for in your poll (they appear as: "I don") - might have somethin' to do with the apostroph. EDIT: Never mind, you fixed it. That is a good question. First of all, I think this varies from subtheme to subtheme. Many of us have a focus on certain themes and tend to givemost feedback in there. Then there's what I call the specialist's interest. If you know much about a certain technique (f.e. snot), a certain type of MOC (vignette vs. vehicles etc.) or a certain type of model (experts on cars, on frigates, on Star Wars rebel fighters...) then you tend to give more feedback there because it is more likely that you have something of value to add. Another thing that strikes me as bein' important is the timing of your publication. If I post a MOC in a forum that has three other MOCs being posted at the same time that might catch more attention because a EB-Celeb is posting them/they are huge/impressively built then my MOC might just get lost in the shuffle. So far, I've got only one MOC posted here having received no feedback and that in a subtheme where I am used to very... let's call it interval-ish activity anyway. Whereas in the classic pirates section you get literally drowned in comments and suggestions on most MOCs. I try to comment on all MOCs in my subtheme that I think can benefit from my feedback. In other subthemes I will comment on things that really catch my attention or are from members that I am in contact with. Another rule I sometimes use is to comment on MOCs of new members to encourage them... But there's such a sheer number of MOCs to comment on that most of them will definetly not be seen by me.

Do you see the compass rose up in the right corner? The blue spike indicates the direction of the wind. Also: Congrats on making citizen!
  14. For my comic I have done many drawings and asked for your feedback. At this point I would like to thank you for your comments, especially KielDaMan and lightningtiger. One last time I would like your feedback on two last new sets (the heavy tank and the technical information on weapons) and ask you if all information is seen together, do the design of the presentations and the construction seem logical to you? I have worked on this for quite some time now and knowing where I am going, I am not sure if my ideas seem always comprehensible. Activity! I take it back that I have a problem with the time zones: So far the game is quite fast and it has the benefit of gettin' up and seing four of five replies. I like this! Okay, let's fix this: You can pivot up to 90° if you want to be able to fire a broadside OR you can make a >90° turn but NO broadside - everybode fine with that? While I support the general idea that everyone can participate that has a boat or a ship (hell, I've even thought about making games for blacktron and knights), I'd say, we keep it simple for now. If someone with a ballista wants to fight another one with a ballista - come here, ask and I'll make a mod for this game. But as for now, ballistas and cannons would be a bit unbalanced. Placing the cannons there would of course add greatly to your combat abilities - and hence I think this would be extra enough If your question was referring on how to do chasers for the game: just add them to your ship in a manner that you like and don't forget to take some nice pictures of it - no building rules for the game. Plus: I am glad you like the game
  16. I don't think he's actually puttin' the wheel below deck, but extending the poopdeck above the wheel, at least I think so - would be quite common on ships of the line. Thet recoil problem is somethin' most of us know as Lego dimensions make it somewhat difficult to scale cannons and ships in the right proportion. But this can still be explained away by two things: First, the cannon would be one restricted to grape shots - the recoil would be reduced and could be absorbed by the ropes. The second one: ships of that size had enough room for "psychological warfare" - it was not uncommon to paint more gunports onto the hull than there actually were and it was also possible to add guns that were not used. That way, a ship would look more intimidating and would have spare cannons.

That shall not be a problem - you'll see much more details next turn

Sorry for the double post, but the following issues have caught my attention and I would like your opinion on it: (1) For firing a broadside, we need to determine if the firing ship has to be in the right position at the beginning of the firing sequence or can move into the right position and fire in the same turn. I tend to the second possibility as it allows much more room for interesting maneuvers - what do you think? (2) I have added some PM-random events, you already got one both. Do you think this would add up to the fun or is this too much detail? If you like this, we could add up other things like -a fresh breeze (speeds up for a turn) -group of dolphins sighted (rises spirits and heals +5 damage if there is a carpenter) -St. Elmos fire (with higher wind speeds - evokes fear and takes away 10 points on every fired broadside) -loose rigging (stops movement for a turn) (3)Shall the game host inform about things like: -in firing range -damage reaches critical levels -known shoals in sight
  19. Oh, I just love your reviews and your manipulated photos. I was always very font of the clipper though I did not own it, I always longed to have one as a child. The design is great, it has a very fierce and smooth look - and in my view, the lack of the cabin adds just more room for customization without having to lose too much of the original design. I agree on the figure-thing - a pirate or maybe even a pirate in a boat would have added greatly to this set. Thank you for your great review!

    WIP MOC: funfair

Thank you all for your kind feedback so far! I don't know if I can make a rollecoaster, although that would be brilliant. The car bumpers thingy is finished (SNOT ground was a little bit more work than expected) and so are two other small additions, nothing special: A balloon stand where the balloon man gives away balloons to happy kids and a lottery booth where you can win free rides on the attractions. As usual, the ground around the booth is covered with old lots. The car bumpers has working lights. When the funfair is finished, I'll make a video of all the working details like the turning mary-go-round, the lights in the chamber of horrors and the car bumpers. lottery booth von HMSCentaur auf Flickr balloons von HMSCentaur auf Flickr car bumpers 2 von HMSCentaur auf Flickr
  23. First of all: I really like the colour scheme and the general impression those two ships create. It would also help if you deeplinked one or two more images so both of the ships can bee seen from different angles. I do not know if you are aiming at technical accuracy or not. If you are, here my suggestions come: Both ships feature a far too high poop deck (the part with the captain's cabin - a poop deck of this size would be a phenomenon of older ships from the 15th to early 17th century and need a much higher forecastle (the risen part of the deck to the bow) - you could start by reducing those poop decks. Your ship could also need a little curving in the sidelines. To the frigate: If you want to do a frigate, this one needs more guns - traditional rating systems of old navies would classify this as a sloop or a brig. But then again - why go for accuracy? I'd suggest you forget my comments and make it a much more fantasy-esque fleet with a bit more ornaments and maybe a steam-punk approach? (I am building a steampunk-ship meself at the moment, so the idea comes quite quickly)
