  1. So, I just finished reading ALL the Lego: Space comics and I am trying to find another tissue in order to wipe up the tears of laughter dropped onto my keyboard - this is a great one!
  2. This is mind-blowing. I really like the "the whole world is now your creepy playground" atmosphere, with all the carelessly abandoned things lying and standing around. I feel it says "I am Legend" to me all the time

This discussion can go on and on and while I actually really enjoy reading all of it - which I think can be classified as nerd-alert - I think we have to come to a compromise. As we realise that the formula does not seem to satisfy the needs of all MOCs that could be thrown into the game, here does come my suggestion: We take the total weight of the cannons used and add a standartised weight that is based on the size of the vessel. The size would be relevant in terms of that we measure the MOC, translate it into the scale of a fully rigged vessel and try to find a a known ship with roughly the same dimensions. Then we take the weight of this ship and use it in the formula. This will never be entirely accurate but takes away the disadvantages of different building techniques and focuses more on the idea of the MOC. What do you think?
  4. Thank you all for your comments! I really appreciate them! Yeah - while there are some neat BSG-MOCs on the internet I couldn't find much of them on EB. I am in the proccess of developing BSG-Decals and once I get my hands on some colours that match the new series better I'll build some more. And I got a micro-Raptor somewhere for the launch pad, I'll take a picture of it. Well, to be fair, including computer viruses into a series with a computer race is an obvious thing to do nowadays and Mary McDonnell is a terrific actress And I for once don't think it is so much about entertainment (which you get, by the way through great fun moments, terrific battles and nicely done homages to the old BSG) but about social criticism and the nature of humanity. The surviving fleet is a catalyser for how society, military and politics function and what it is to be human without the all-patriotism-strength-and-glory-things that many military series have in these days that I frankly find to be much more annoying. But this is a question of taste, I guess Yeah, I know what you mean. The pictures I took add to that feeling. It actually has some "vivid" hull-parts but I wasn't able to capture them very well.
  5. Hey folks, I've done a Sci-Fi MOC and it's not LDD! While I really love the re-imagined Battlestar Galactica series, I've always wondered if there was more in the Colonial Fleet than just three types of vessels (Battlestars, Raptors and Vipers) - So I created another ugly little ship, an escort. This one is supposed to be part of a battlestar-group (BSG) and shall do all the heavy fighting that Galactica has to do all on her own during the series. I included a retractable launching pod for a small group of support vessels and included lights for the engine and the launching pod (sadly enough, I really suck at taking pictures, so it looks like the lights are really weak - but they are not!) This escort is supposed to be a relict from the beginning of the first Cylon War so she is a bit more bulky than Pegasus or the new Vipers. Now, here come the pictures, what do you think? 6. Well, now I am back. They haven't found any more of them and brought them to a zoo. Now I could bite myself that I didn't take any pictures - the only thing still there is the mess the fire-brigade has created. I am still relieved that they came that quick. They told me that I can be lucky that the summer in Berlin is so cold this year or else they might have been much more... active. On another note: I just called my colleague and he's got no clue how those could have gotten in. There are no animals at his place ans he was really shocked to hear the story. So I doubt he made this on purpose
  7. Today I got two boxes of Lego by a co-worker that has a son who thinks of himself of bein' too old. So I traded the boxes for some beer. When I sat down a few minutes ago to scan through the boxes, I nearly got a heart-attack. There where four little scorpions sittin' between four mini-figs and half a space shuttle. Problem is: the scorpions are alive. Right now I am sittin' outside my flat while the fire brigade's sweepin' through my Lego trying to find more of these. I just grabbed my laptop and will sure be happy when I am allowed back in. That is my story of things beside clone-brands that don't belong in a Lego collections. Makes me want to apologize to every single brick of Megablocks I have encountered so far.
  8. Those are neat! I especially like R. Saveloy . Your discworld MOCs are always very nicely done and accurate and so are your custom minifigs.
  9. That looks great! As it seems that you are going for technical accuracy (at least much more than most of us using the prefab-hull parts), I would like to suggest that you shift one of those two gun-decks gunport locations. on ships with multiple gun-decks it was common to place the gunports in a chequered fassion so that if the ship fired a broadside, the recoil could be absorbed by the planks AND the frames and not ONLY by the frames. While it would be, technically possible for a two-decker to withstand the recoil, the kinetic energy would cause micro-fractures all over the frames and weaken the caulking compounds.
  10. Aye, thank you all for your comments. Actually, I did not build the walls out of a lack of dgrey or grey bricks but because I did a rather free interpretation of a scene that struck me as bein' quite depressing - so I used black walls to illustrate that. The floor was another rather free interpretation that was done in order to try out a new technique. I did not build this entry in order to win the contest. I actually entered in order to give me a time-frame to get a scene done I wanted to do for a long time - when the contest is over, I'll post some more pictures with higher detail. Including the executioner that has not been seen in the pictures because it fell off the scene without me noticing it. If you look up the flickr album of the entry, you can see him
  11. Hey folks, I've done my first decals and I hope you like them. They are uniforms for BSG-MOCs from the 2005 series. I made them because I couldn't find some around here (if I missed them I'd be happy if I got a link ) This is the first bunch of them. I'll make the pilot-uniforms, some dress uniforms and marines-uniforms when I've received some comments and some criticism on those: Decal Commander von HMSCentaur auf Flickr Decal Colonell von HMSCentaur auf Flickr Decal pilot von HMSCentaur auf Flickr Decal tanktop von HMSCentaur auf Flickr

    MOC:mini boat

I really like this! The compact design looks like fun and is cleverly built. Brings me back to my funfair for this love-tunnel I was thinking about.... like what?

First of all, cb4, I would like to compliment you on your discussion style. While your comments in this thread have somehow been met with disapproval up to now, you are staying very focused and polite in a discussion that's now between rule-huggers, naval-fans and number knowers. I like this While I think that Phred's numbers are undisputed by all of us, you are right in the point that the translation from ship to Lego-ship is somewhat not entirely accurate. While I do know that this gives room for unbalanced games and even cheating, I also see that pirates-fans on this forum are amongst the most accurate and.. let's say conservative folks - I think of this as a positive asset as most of us would not make inaccurate ships or employ heavily unrealistic building-styles just to win a game of R&S. Including the weight will give us a better and more individual picture of the ship that is brought to battle and therefore I conclude: Even if including the weight does NOT give us an accurate translation into naval construction details, it DOES give us a good insight on the MOC itself. As this game is about sending MOCs into battle, I vote for keeping the weights. After all, it would be up to the game host to decide whether a ship would be fit to combat the opponent or whether it should better find another, better suited opponent. But I would like to hear the opinions of the others on that matter!
  16. That is going to be a very interesting MOC and I am looking forward to see more of it. I am especially interested in seeing on how you plan to make the sections and their connection-points stable. Making this was a major issue on my ship and it drove me crazy at times to decide between stability and accuracy.
  17. Well, you also could slow down the speed by transmitting the movement through some bigger cogs. Plus, but this could be a little bit of work, you could try to include a water-pouring effect with small blue studs being conveyed back like in the Maerks Hotties MOC by ISC. But this would mean major work and... Your MOC is already awesome and has many details!
  18. I find this to be a very nice MOC. Though I thought that all the ABCD-Wings were constructed by Incom Corp. that defected to the rebels.. but then, my knowledge of SW is only marginal. But this... ... do I misunderstand this or is it just a very vulgar joke?

Too bad, but it's good to hear that you're working on it. I am lookin' forward to the next update of that beauty she already is. I've made to additional maps to choose from: This one is "Big Cam's Atoll" and features four hideouts (veery tiny, might change that) that can belong to factions Big Cams Atoll von HMSCentaur auf Flickr This one is "Captain Green Hair's Resort" and features two faction-trading posts and the big harbour in the middle where Captain Green Hair resides - would you dare taking this one? Why, that's great! We've already got 3 out of 4 necessary players! Now, we just need a fourth volunteer! Phred, Admiral Croissant, cb4, Bart... you all made contributions, wouldn't you like to try the game?
  21. Thank you all for your comments. This community never ceases to amaze me with kindness and diversity You are quite right. But at the time I have only a very limited amount of newer heads as most of my Lego collection comes from a time when was the standard to go. But I tried to pay attention to the faces-issue in my next two MOCs that are no up and finished for next week's workshop. Here they come: MOC III - border patrols theme: Universal Declaration of Human Rights - Article 14 "Everyone has the right to seek and to enjoy in other countries asylum from persecution." Furthermore, no distinction shall be made on the basis of the political, jurisdictional or international status of the country or territory to which a person belongs, whether it be independent, trust, non-self-governing or under any other limitation of sovereignty." thugs 1 von HMSCentaur auf Flickr thugs 2 von HMSCentaur auf Flickr thugs 3 von HMSCentaur auf Flickr thugs 4 von HMSCentaur auf Flickr
  22. This is a great scene! I love the sky, reminds me of those classic computer games like commander keen And I find the functional simplicity of the rocket great! It adds to the scene without distracting from the landscape. Maybe a volvo-space-rover would have been a nice add

Well, as it was also used to stabilise the vessel's centre of balance and went with almost every constructed ship of the time, it seems a little redundant to me to include this. But let's gather some more opinions on that theme. While I do find it funny that you of all folks around here want to tell me something about outdated ideas for the game I know what you mean. It will be difficult enough to catch an enemy's vessel anyway and it was more meant as a last resort, not as a standard method of attack

I shall leave the answer to that to our sheets-expert Phred I agree on your suggestion to use a percentage of the total health instead of the fixed points. Yes, the damage will increase per gun. concerning the boarding: While I totally agree that this would be a neat idea, the problem with this is the terrible work it'll mean for the game master and the players to set this up: There is an immense difference between the numbers of the crews on different MOCs (for example: some of the brigs around here use more sailors than some frigates) and the equipment of the sailors. Additionally: what can swivel guns do in a situation like that and what rules to set up for encountering the ship's cook? So.... this text I have written just to make me look better as I have made a set of rules for the boarding of an enemy's MOC! Boarding your enemy: Feel like visiting your foe today? No problem, just get near enough the enemy's vessel to board it. Boarding is a little bit like a game within the game, so be sure to read those rules carefully before you try it in combat. There are two different figures important while boarding: Attack and Defense. Choosing different sailors, weapons and tactics will influence those two figures. If your Attack altogether is higher than the Defense of the enemy, the boarding is successful and your tactic will work. If your Attack is lower than the Defense, your men will be killed during the attack and your enemy can choose to try a boarding himself. please be fair and use only the equipment that your crew ACTUALLY HAS. Boarding a ship will only take one turn. (1) preparing the boarding in order to board a ship, you must either have a dinghy or be in the same square grid as your enemy STEERING THE SAME COURSE. You must prepare your crew for boarding a ship at least one turn before by writing a PM to the game host. This PM must include: -The sailors used (different sailors have different features) -the weaponry used -the tactic used You publicy announce that you board the ship in the combat thread. The enemy can now try to prevent the boarding and prepare the ship for a man-to-man-fight. (2) what sailors to use -a boarding party must have at least one officer that carries a cutlass and a pistol -one officer can command up to 10 sailors -a marine squad does need no officer but cannot use the tactic "taking her a prize" (3) weaponry and equipment -a cutlass has an Attack of 5 and a Defense of 5. The numbers are displayed like this: 5|5 -a pistol has 10|5 -a rifle has 10|10 -a swivel gun has 10|30 -a grenade has 15|0 -a knive has 5|5 -anti boarding nets/rails have 0|20 -frying pan has 0|10 (4) crew -the captain has 30|30 (can use cutlass and pistol) -a lieutenant has 5|10 (can use cutlass and pistol) -a midshipman has 10|5 (can use cutlass and pistol) -a crewman has 5|5 (can use cutlass OR grenade OR knive) -a marine has 10|10 (can use rifle and pistol) -a marine officer has 15|10 (can use cutlass and pistol) -a cook has 5|15 (can use cutlass OR frying pan) -other specialists have 0|5 (can use cutlass) (5) attack tactics -hit and run - making as much damage as possible and be gone: 50|-20 if it succeed, the defending crew will be killed and the boarded ship will sustain a total of 50% damage -taking her a prize - taking over the ship: 0|-30 if it succeeds the ship will be handed over to the the boarding player. The boarding party has to stay on the prize. -damaging a part of the ship: 70|-40 if it succeeds the named part of the enemy's ship wil be destroyed (e.g. the rudder) (6) defense tactics -repel the boarding - try to use all hands to prevent the boarding -50|50 using ALL crew and equipment to defend the ship (so all the crew can get killed) -make a stand - try to use a part of the crew to defend the ship -30|30 choose how much crew will be used and what equipment -counterattack - bring the fight to the enemy - 30|0 choose two units and equip them to defend your ship and board the enemy at the same time EDIT: (didn't want to do another double post) I'd like you to consider this additional idea: maneuvre: -ramming the enemy - if you manage to ram the enemy (must be officially announced in the battle thread), half of your remaining hp will be used to damage the enemy's vessel and vice versa. When we have discussed all the additional rules and ideas and made the 1.1. version of the game "stable", I'd like to make a gamma-test afterwards, including two fleets consisting of two players each (four altogether). You can apply now
  25. Thank you both. I was not quite sure how this kind of MOC would be perceived around here. I will do some more of those, depicting the treatment of refugees, the crushing of demonstrations, the discrimination of foreigners and women and some more. It depends all on how well the workshop goes.
