Customs charges when ordering from Bricklink
tbroyd replied to Vindice's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Your lucky if it goes by Royal mail or Parcel Farse. Most couriers charge a much higher handling charge. -
The new lego city harbour code number 4645 is down from £71.99 down to £46.38 on Amazon this morning Not a fan of the set normally but almost tempted at that price! Also, one of the sellers on Amazon have the Cars 2 Lego Big Bentley Bust out 8639 down from £71.99 to £52 (including carriage) which is the cheapest I've seen to far
-
Thanks for the great new pictures but they just reinforce how underwhelmed I am with the set The loco and works wagon are great but the other 2 wagons look ridiculous and the price seems to be very poor value compared to the cargo set. I know lego is predominently a toy for kids but the models still need to vaguely resemble real life, surely . If anyone can find a photo of a wagon even remotely similar to the ballast wagon i'd love to see it. Just have to see how cheap it gets, hopefully it won't be an exclusive

Thanks for the reveiw Its one of the cars sets I had my eye on, for parts if nothing else, so was hoping to see what it like

Series 3 minifigs were reduced to 75p each in John Lewis Milton Keynes Stocked up on a few but there were quite a few left
-
Have you seen it advertised for only 130 Euros? The Brickshop.nl site has it up for 170 Euros so I think I will wait a few months for it to be discounted. I think it will end up being reduced because it will appear such poor value compared to the current cargo set which contains so much more
-
Looking at the above mentioned website then, the recommended price is virtually the same as the current Cargo train set Considering the Cargo set has so many features (articulated lorry, gantry crane, containers, cars etc) I would hope then that the new set contains plenty of track like the cargo train because otherwise it would be very poor value
-
Great to hear some news about the set Any indication of price? Was interested in the price of the set compared to other current sets?

Simply brilliant! I second the request for a video, would be great to see it in action

Trade Polybags for an Emerald...
tbroyd replied to johnny cogs's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
You want to swap £15 worth of Sun newspaper giveaways for a £70 set but are not looking to profit from the trade?? -
Thanks, again a great review The bus looks wrong to me because the driver is sitting so far back. To me, that spoils the whole charater of it as the driver sitting over the front wheel is such an important design feature. I would really like a bus but I think I might have to get 2 and combine them into something a bit longer and a bit more accurate

Thanks, Great review Which John Lewis store had them out of interest?

Free LEGO promotion with UK Sun and News of the World
tbroyd replied to pedro's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
I think the main problem is the uneven distibution of the Lego to Stores The WH Smith I have been purchasing from still had boxes of the lego left from Sat and Sun this morning when I called in to collect todays. That is despite people buying 20 or 30 papers at a time -

A disturbing trend has developed in my White Cheese Slopes..
tbroyd replied to kyphur's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Hi, Thanks for the advice and sorry to hear that others are suffering with similar problems. With regard to a dry heat being the cause, I can understand why its being suggested as a cause but I can say with certainty that my model has never been subjected to a dry heat. The model was purchased new & sealed. Our house is old with open fireplaces in virtually every room which keeps things reasonably cool in summer, summers in the uk are rarely warm and if they are it is quite an unpleasent humid heat. In winter our oil heating is set low at about 16C (61F) as the heat just goes up the chimneys (We mainly rely on an log burner in our main room downstairs for heat). Therefore the part of the house is never very warm and the humidity is never low. It is also out of direct sunlight I work as a calibration engineer with a company making scientific instrumentation which includes thermometers and humidity meters, its one of the few things I know about in any meaningful way, and that knowledge also makes me confident about dry heat being the cause Why I was so surprised at what happened with the camper van is that so many different sizes and shapes of brick are affected, but only the white ones (no other none white pieces in the same display case are affected) I'll contact Lego see what they say, I'ts going to sound like I want virtually a whole new van! -

tbroyd replied to kyphur's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Had loads of problems but with white bricks in general, the worst model being the camper van 7639. It was purchased 12 months ago and within a few months was cracking up. Its never been in sunlight and never been subjected to extremes of temperature. I've tried to take photos but its difficult due to the colour to make them show up: I lost the receipt so didn't think therewas much I could do? Would Lego be interested and who would I contact? (I live in the UK) -
MOC: British Southern Railway Concrete Goods Shed
tbroyd replied to tbroyd's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Thanks for the suggestions. Have tried the sliding door idea and think it looks better. Need to add a few details though, I think it needs a couple of flood lights. The small platform is where a lorry would back up to so the next think will be a box van or lorry -
MOC: British Southern Railway Concrete Goods Shed
tbroyd replied to tbroyd's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Thanks for the kind comments. I'll work on the weathering idea. I did try to start with but I felt it just looked a mess I thought I had some green doors, still trying to sort and organise Lego at the moment but can't resist stopping to build things! Off to try and find a photo of the real thing..... -
Hi I've recently rediscovered the delights of Lego after many years and after buying a bumper load of assorted grey bricks at a car boot sale thought I might try and recreate some british southern railway concrete structures. I have started with a small goods shed which the railway built from standard framework, prefabricated panels and a corrugated roof. Below are a couple of photos of progress so far The biggest challenge so far is trying to get the roof right, especially along the front edge. Would be really greatful for any C&C, ideas or tips

In case anyone is interested, I just managed to get one in the UK Milton Keynes Lego shop, they had several on the shelf and the girl serving said they had plenty left in stock. The display one in the window looked great, just got to save up for a couple more now!
