  1. furnace for melting gold, mould for the coins, anvil and hammer big fire, a smithy I imagine that is a starter ;p Bart
  2. I love it, I've always been a fan of flying ships. And this makes me feel like the doorway to a whole new subtheme for pirates, flying pirates. I also found myself wondering where the water came from. But then I thought to myself 'I accept the fact that rocks float but not that water is appearing out of it?' so that was a bit silly (of me). oh and Admiral Croissant thank you for naming that title, I knew about the movie but never knew the title :) Bart
  3. why did I only look now to this topic, its a very nice battery, I like the history this piece seems to show, it looks like the battery is placed on a spot there where buildings before, the ruïns look very convincing. I also agree that two guns looks good, even if you think that there are more batteries spread out around the fortress. I only would have increased the hight of the breast work a bit, you could have done it by adding some masonry on top of the natural rock, or sandbags, although the last may be a bit difficult to do with bricks. all in all I'm looking forward to your next project in the 'de Ruyter' series :) Bart
  4. The whole scene looks amazing. you can really see the action of raising that cross. And I like those tree's good technique Bart
  5. What you describe sounds interesting, but like Skipper sad, we need a slightly bigger picture to really judge it. About the colour, I think it doesn't really matter brown or black. Bart
  6. I love it. It actually looks cold there, and the posing is brilliant the really look defeated and to be stumbling home. The vulture is just great. Austerlitz, looking forward to that, you doing the camp and the pyramid? Bart
  7. I still love it :) the more you get to finishing the hull the better it looks. I think the grating may be there for weight reasons that way they would need lighter supports to keep that piece of deck up, as its not resting on any frame. And maybe it is to see the rudder or to lift the rudder out. I could think of multiple reasons to put gratings there. I also like the way the cannons look compared to the ship in size and shape, I personally would make the cannon carriage wheels black or brown not tan, because the ship is already tan but that is just me. Keep it up Bart
  8. I tried that ones; didn't work out the way I wanted; to give you an idea; click Bart
  9. was ff aan het spieken hier en zag dat jij relatief gezien nogal dicht bij woont in vergeleiking met andere EB leden ;)

  10. Wow looking good, I think this colour scheme works, It's looking massive, in a positive way. And I do love the rib's on the outside of the quarters and the balcony (it is going to be a balcony right?) in the stern. Are you going to put in moc cannons? because the gun ports look big to me? I'm only not a fan of those double arc doors on the bow. I suggest you extend the lower gun deck forwards in to a half circle, that would look great. But by all means keep going! Bart PS I LOVE the use of the minifigs as statues
  11. Don´t want to spoil the party, but that doesn´t look like an original cannon carriage to me, its way to light. If you fire that gun the carriage would crumble away. just look at the hinge, the barrel is not locked to the carriage at all. there is no way of securing the carriage to what ever survice it was standing on, eye bolt ´s, rings etc. And its to highly mounted to let the gunman do a proper reload, without using a stair or step up. so I think this cannon is purely a show piece for the garden that it´s in. but other then that I do like your gun design, it looks good and solid. for the wheels I would just connect them at the angle, who cares they don´t ride very well, its Lego! people use you´re imagination a bit. Bart
  12. wow just a wow on the fact that its huge ... and very good looking :) Bart

    new sigfig

the ship is floating in Rum obviously ;)
  14. looking very much like the breech loaders of the old day's, or it looks like the picture I have of them in a book. nice to see a different design :) Bart
  15. English against French in India sounds interesting, but we can't see anything yet, your brickshelf is not public. Bart

    new sigfig

it's been raining all day :( so I pulled out the Lego ;p story behind it; The Lieutenant found a map leading to a treasure, he found the treasure and decided to go celebrate it with a bottle of rum, while drinking the rum he thought about his future and found that pirating would be the way to go, because if he went back to his ship the captain would steel his treasure. He only needs a ship and crew but he figures that is just a side issue, I made the minifig out of the torso and hat of Barbossa from the fountain of life set, the legs are just the regular black, the head is from the latest imperial soldier (redcoat) the bottle, sword sling and compass are form the captain's cabin set. treasure box and flag from the pirate island ('09 i thought?) filled it with all the diamonds and coins I have. did anyone notice that the yellow and gold banner wave the otherway? the gold is new the yellow old ('90s) Lt. Bart
  17. I don't mind update's but it's getting pretty annoying that after every update you have to redo the unlocking of what is now called LDDExtended Bart
  18. POTC fountain of youth .. I couldn't resist and I wanted Barbossa as a Privateer Pirates Cannon battle, I wanted another canon and redcoat Soldiers Arsenal, I got the last one of the store with a Discount :D only €1,50 and because there was some coins left in my wallet I got 3 packages of Minifig series 4 the; Sailer, Surfer Girl and Figure skating girl and I'm extremely happy with that outcome, just the few I liked :D Still want the POTC London escape set but that is so expensive :( and I'm already saving for the black pearl Bart
  19. Looking very good, it really looks alive. Just one question what does the tile piece do that you insert in the roof??? I also like your rope bridge design, I hadn't seen it before Bart

ah Horry why did you do that, I liked reading the, ever expending, posts ;) But if I understand you correctly you want to make a sort of table, that gives you a weight based on dimensions. with the weights/dimensions taken from existing ships. and to that weight we add another weight based on the number of cannons. That sounds good to me. Bart
  21. Looking good, one of the few Galleon's around here as I know. I never knew that you could build a ship for only £80. That kinda opens my eye's :) And I see CGH beat me to this question; Bart

I have been thinking, maybe we should first decide what number of Hit-Points we desire per type of ship something like barge <100 sloop 100-200 galleon 200-300 frigate 300-400 ship of the line 400> And then from that, we build up a formula concerning things as size, masts, decks, to give the ships a specific HP value. But before that we have to decide what types of ships we have and when a ship fits a certain type. hmm every idea gives up new questions :S Bart

Nice experiment cb4, Just a photo-technic note, maybe you could have added a die to the water to get clearer pictures. But never the less it is quite obvious that the Xebec is already on its design draft (if you compare it with the drawings cb4 posted here, while it certainly is not yet finished and so will gain more weight. But this problem is not only with Lego, it occurs on every model build, An example; you have a beam 1x2x10 meters you scale it 1:10 then you have a beam 0,1x0,2x1 meter But the Volume doesn't change according to that scale 1x2x10 = 20 m³ 0,1x0,2x1 = 0,02 m³ The scale used for the Volume then becomes 1:1000 When building (non Lego) ship models (that you wish to float) you have to use very lightweight equipment to give your model the same draft as the real thing (to scale) because the Volume of the underwater part of the ship (known as Displacement) is much smaller and thus the floating capacity is less. After writing the above I see we have a problem or we made ourselfs a problem, but I do not know how to solve it, maybe I got a bright idea sometime and I'll post it here. Maybe base the hitpoints on type of ship, size, no. of masts, etcetera Bart

I would love to play but I do not have a ship :( The only pirate thing I build till now is my Admirals Barge, I cloud fill it with swords and guns and weigh it ;) but I think it wouldn't be a fair mach against any other moc ship on here. I think I have to agree with cb4's last post about the weight, if you brick build your full hull or use hull parts for your waterline moc is quite a difference in weight, wile it can be the same type of ship. but I think it's better for me to leave this weight discussion to the people who have more knowledge about it ;) Bart Edition; just to see what happens I entered the particulars of my barge in the Excel sheet and I think there is an error in it. LAO = 24 std => 22,5 ft BAO = 7 std => 6,6 ft weight = 0,3 kg => 22,8 tons the length and beam are correct but the weight !?! out of experience I know a barge like this weighs more like 2 tons. and the weight gives my barge a draft of 13 ft.! so only the mast tip is above the whater level. if I manipulate the weight to 2 tons it comes to 1,2 ft that seems more correct. my sprit sail gives it a speed of about 4 knots in both weights and that seems correct to me, then I come to the next part, what about the oars? out of personal experience I know that you can reach a cruising speed of 5 knots and up to 7 in a Sprint. Depending on the wind and waves and current this got influenced of course Bart
  25. I think it looks good, I love the fact you made the hull look dirty, stained and the algae growing on it :D and all the other uses of colour just make it come alive, (the bird's poop is hilarious) nice use of detail too on and under decks Bart
