Finally some pics! Thanks Brickadeer. I was very much looking forward to a nice rendition of AV-7 Anti-Vehicle Canon and I'm very dissapointed by the end result. The Cuusoo model was absolutely terrific, and not even that much larger from this one. Have they done it properly, I guess people would have bought several of these to recreate Battle of Christophsis. Epic fail Only barrel with the seat for trooper, no charger part at all And the barrel is completely out of proportions... Anyway, enough ranting, it's just I had really high hopes there. So relatively cheap wave for me: I need one Vulture droid, never got a chance to get one, ok DS troopers naturally, perhaps AT-AP to complete my Felucia setup and maybe Droid Gunship once I see some reviews. I'll try to get instructions for the Cuusoo AV-7 and build few of these...

Can you please take a lot of comparison pics and post a link to your flickr or something once you build the new one? Now that all of you guys seem to defend the new one, I'm starting to question my judgment It's quite possible that my first impression was one of such dissapointment with always smaller and smaller sets that I couldn't focus on the good sides of the new one. But when I saw the absence of red, a cheap looking gun and less detailed mid-legs round piece (only one piece on the new set moreover) I was quite 'wtf'-ed... I'd like to compare it from different angles. Old AT-TE was one of my favorite sets to build, can't say, I built a Death Star, Dropship, these were all amazing builds, but there was something special about AT-TE, like condensed piece of build-heaven, that's probably why I am so fond of it. That old one was retired by the time I came out of my dark ages, but I managed to snatch it on ebay for a reasonable price. I tried to do that with the old Gunship as well but with no success. I can't describe you how happy I was when I found out it was being re-realesed. And contrary to the new AT-TE, I found the new gunship to be far superior than the old one, and not only because of the cockpit pieces, proportions, lines, everything has been improved (ok, save for the doors). Watching AT-TE after that, well, let's just say I was happy I got that thing off ebay and failed to get the Gunship instead of the other way around What do you guys think about the new Gunship vs. the old one and also, new Corporate Alliance Tank against the old one (my vote goes to the old one there as well)?

You're welcome, glad to help.

Are you insane?! Sell the beautiful large sized Clone Wars one for this aborted short and ugly thing?! De gustibus non est discutandum apparently, I believed everyone was appaled by this new one, now I discover someone actually likes it... But that anyone would prefer it to the old one, that's beyond me

Wow, fine printing has gone a long way! Gree looks really good.

They are fairly straightforward if you are a fan of Star Wars, but let me give you some help with most commonly used ones: OT- Original Trilogy PT- Prequel Trilogy EU- Extended Universe (books, comics, video games, all materials pertaining to Star Wars not covered by the movies) ANH- A New Hope ESB - Empire Strikes Back RoTJ - Return of the Jedi TPM - The Phantom Menace AoTC - Attack of the Clones RoTS - Revenge of the Sith TCW - The Clone Wars (long play cartoon released in 2008) CW - Clone Wars (Cartoon Network animated series that ran 2008-2013 and were discontinued when Disney purchased Lucasfilm) Then SW Lego-oriented ones: UCS - Ultimate Collector Series MF - Millenium Falcon (it's a matter of great debate if it's spelled with one 'l' or two ) SSD - Super Star Destroyer (aka. Executor, Vader's flagship) DS - Death Star ISD - Imperial Star Destroyer CC - Cloud City (although less frequently used abbreviation) IS - Imperial Shuttle And finally: TLG - The Lego Group I hope this helps a little, I understand your confusion, I felt pretty much the same way when I first joined these forums. If I omitted something, feel free to ask. Welcome to Eurobricks!

Well, my guess is you are going to have to wait for 2015 and Episode VII for that kind of sets
-
Well, truth be told, I don't think that if Death Star had a "normal" run, it would sell to too many kids with that price tag. I think that 400-mark sets are designed with AFOL community as a primary target group in mind. But it is a one-of-a-kind set, so it tapped to the kids market as well and it doesn't lend itself to the fair comparaison. But if you take the SSD as a reference, I believe that Jedi Temple would top its sales as an AFOL-oriented set. Who wouldn't want to see a marvel like Jedi Temple on a prominent position in the living room?! (ray-shielded from angry wife ofc )
-
I just looked at the list of all Clone Wars sets released to date and I'm afraid I'll have to come back on my estimate of eventual Mortis sets; as it happens TLG has so far released only vehicles from CW, not a single structure set, so I guess Mortis is off the table. Which is a real shame, potential for amazing minifigures coupled with some LoTR-esque structures would make for outstanding sets, except that marketing-wise, that arc's visibility is insignificant Ok, Mortis arc has that rather pale shuttle the Jedi used to get there, but I can hardly imagine releasing all the great minifigs with just that one set. But seriously, don't you guys think that Son and Daughter in their animal shapes would make for terrific special (Wampa-like) molds? So it leaves us with probably another vehicle from the last Ahsoka-arc to go with Coruscant Police Gunship and that would probably close the Clone Wars sets

The only way I see them doing something like Jedi Temple is UCS format with no (or very limited) features, for display mainly. Something of a Taj Mahal for SW theme. It's too grandiose of a building for anything but the UCS scale, and besides, the structure of the temple is such that it would be very difficult to build the features you mentioned while preserving the look of the temple as a whole. On the other hand they could easily do the features you described separately as smaller sets.
-
Oh, come on, be politically correct, the Daughter was hot too
-
I seriously doubt that. UCS are more of a precision challenge, minifig scale (if possible), they are for display mostly. My guess is they might make an attempt at a "bridge" kind of detail like they did on SSD, but full interior, no way. First, there have been rumors about that for a long time, sadly, I never found out where they originated, coz every time TLG official spoke on the subject, he underlined of how strong the sales of that set still were. On the subject of retiring they were always like: 'Yeah, all sets retire eventually' without ever being more specific. Second, I am not sure about 200 $€£ mark. My guess is they'll have to make a special cockpit piece in order to satisfy to the precision criteria, probably some more unique pieces, I believe it will fare more like IS around 260±20 $€£. As for the ~400 mark, they didn't hit it since SSD. This year UCS and 'UCS' were 209 and 249 respectively. And lastly, as per the money making argument, in order to make serious money, you need serious marketing, and I totally see TLG pulling that move after Slave I, somewhere in 2015. Marketing-wise you go small thing than the star, not vice versa. And as mentioned before: Sandcrawler << Slave I << Cloud City. But hey, this is all purely hypothetical ofc, it goes without saying I'd be delighted to see that set, it's just, I don't have a feeling for it right now. Ok, lawyered by an expert MOCer Very true, but also besides the point. Take cavegod's AT-AT if you wish, there are "calls" all over the net and it was still way less detailed than the humongous thing they did on cuusoo for Sandcrawler. And, well, if you went to all the trouble bricklinking cavegod's marvel, heck, I understand you, Sandcrawler all the way
-
Well, first and foremost because it's a Cloud City, the most expected set of the universe that would set a landmark for generations of sets to come, send the Death Star to retirement and create a sense of emptiness in a year to follow But more seriously, because that kind of set you market differently (you start dropping small hints like 2,3 years in advance like they do for Ep. VII now ). They need a mid-popular set that will find its market but not overshadow Slave I that will be 'the' hit of the year (comparaison of popularity - Sandcrawler : Slave1 = Coruscant Police Gunship: X-Wing ) Just common sense actually, can you actually picture Cloud City coming out just like that?
-
An initiated person gave a lead on brickset forum leaving 3 possibilities for a May UCS: an AT-AT, Cloud City and Sandcrwaler. Cavegod eliminitated AT-AT as UCS, but confirmed it in other scale which leaves the other two. Some simple logic ruled out the Cloud City and voila You can find that discussion here. Start from page 14 approx.

Yes, but what you don't take into account is that even I clicked 'support' on that thing, and it's not that I'd like one on my shelf done in UCS scale (the cuusoo model has nothing to do with what we call UCS); it's a mere recognition of a masterpiece reproduction that count way over 10.000 pieces. You do a 1m tall AT-AT with that level of detail, then we'll talk figures and "calls for" the "UCS". But under no circumstances would the majority of AFOL community prefer Sandcrawler UCS over AT-AT on equal footing.

Well, this is news. I predicted a huge Episode VII-related wave for Summer 2015 if they maintained Spring/Summer release, but with this... They have a full year to catch up with strongly under-represented areas of OT. Clone Wars, we had our fair share (though Mortis arc might see an appearance and/or last Ahsoka-arc, I don't think that Coruscant Police Gunship would be a shot in the dark...), PT is exhausted with the upcoming wave, so I believe that in 2015 we might finally see the long expected Mos Eisley and Cloud City sets. And yes, I strongly agree that TLG would probably draw early the Winter 2016 wave
-
I agree completely.

Well, I'm following quite a few forums on Lego SW in different languages and have yet to discover one in which people are "voicing plenty of calls for another Sandcrawler" as opposed to for example an AT-AT... But on a softer note, it's true that minifig-wise (and sadly exclusively minifig-wise) it could be an interesting set.
-
Oh, I'm quite convinced it won't be motorized. This kind of marketing stunt you pull once, not systematically... I think the last failed model thought them a lesson, so, yes, I believe it would be a decent upgrade. As for me, I'll wait for the proper UCS in minifig scale, that's bound to happen at some point.
-
Yes, but that last At-At set was quite terrible, no wonder Lego retired it in no time. Honestly, I don't think I've been seeing that set around for more than a year. 10178 is another story, although not perfect, it was a remarkable set. I believe Lego would take the financial risk, I mean At-At is for ESB what X-Wing was for ANH, it's a true landmark of SW. My guess is it would sell better then Executor if done properly. Not to mention that Lego can always make new bigger molds to bring down the piece count. As for Sandcrawler I don't know, for me it was a funny vehicle in the movie, but if it is anything like system set, it wouldn't remind me of anything else than a big brown shoebox on my shelf. Just not my cup of tea.
-
Yes, my wrong. It makes sense with all this Ep I sets coinciding with TPM 3D release. This year is actually RoTJ anniversary. And thanks for the little trivia about Boba Fett Faefrost Guess I wasn't as much of the hardcore fan as I thought I was born the same year 'Empire' was released, and have always wondered what was the fuss about Boba Fett anyway. It's only later when I read the comics and other EU stuff that I started to like him in the slightest. Apology for off-topic to the mods.
-
That would be an outright awsome BP, but if I had to choose between any 4 figures, then 2 DS gunners, one Stormtrooper and one Royal Guard (who needs an army of Royal guards anyway?!)
-
There's virtually zero chance to bring the new System Lambda-class so soon after retiring the UCS. I think that MF is a good indicator in that regard. I think that if we get an IS it's more for 2015,2016... But don't get me wrong, I'd love to see one.
-
I stand corrected. You are right, virtually all of the Summer wave of 2008 were Clone Wars-related sets and the movie only premiered mid-August. So, possible Rebels' sets avalanche next summer...
-
Actually, I now re-read the whole brickset discussion, and not just parts of it. What I conclude based on posts of people who have reliable information from TLG, it seems almost certain that we are getting the Sandcrawler as UCS and an AT-AT as a system set. I am quite dissapointed and would have prefered if it was the other way around, but marketing-wise this appears as a smart move for TLG. Slave I in September wil be THE UCS of the year (an UCS AT-AT would only steal its spotlight) and besides, AT-AT would sell well in whatever size. As an UCS enthusiast (sadly not hyped over Slave I) I can only patiently await a nice 3k+ parts minifigure scale AT-AT UCS...
