  1. I think that not caring about lego monorail system is pretty common sense. While there are some neat features, it's effectively a small poor-man's train (regardless of the simple fact that they are currently more expensive than trains) in terms of functionality. In the automotive world in 1989-1990 Pontiac teamed up with McLaren and produced a limited edition Turbo Intercooled Grand Prix, it was a car that to the best of my knowledge had 3 options that could be toggled. Most people would say that for the money just get a Firebird, but the car is a curiousity, and a unique one at that. So . . . in a world of endless train sets, HO trains, Thomas the tank engine wooden tracks, and Christmas tree trains and everything else . . . . Lego creates a monorail. Lego with its Space themes, signalling the future, lego with it's sets that portray the cities of the future. Look at the image above. Is that not the Firetruck of the future as portrayed as of 1990. In 1993, they have a police set (6398) that has a helicopter of the future. You could only invoke so much feeling of vehicles of the future by designing trains like the high-speed 7745 rocket passenger train. So they made a monorail. The sets have appeal because of their relative scarceness because of the high prices, and were limited to 3 sets and 2 expansion packs. I've ignored them for long enough, so I'm starting to get in, I've made three monorail-related purchases now, and have nothing to show for them as all of my parts are in my out-of-country warehouse. Perhaps it's just the childhood curiousity and nostalgia talking, but the 12V stuff just simply blows everything of today out of the water except for two things: 1.) The sets look lame with the middle rail. 2.) The trains don't look as good as today's do at all. The functions, functionality and peripherals are just so much superior in these sets.

Every single car that I've owned is no longer sold in Canada. 1993 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme 1995 Pontiac Grand Prix 2003 Pontiac Grand Prix 1996 Pontiac Grand Prix (this was technically a parts car that I drove for less than 1km) 1992 Pontiac Grand Prix 2006 Hyundai Azera Right now if you take a look at the cars in the driveway and garage and rank them in order of what car looks fastest to slowest, then drive them all. You'll find that the fastest car looks the slowest (least sporty), and the slowest car looks to be the most speedy.

Fast fact . . . . . in 15 years (all of the years that I've owned cars) I've never had a car with rear drums. That used to be a fact about lit vanity mirrors for some reason too, I'd get a car with all sorts of crazy options . . . just not lit vanity mirrors.
  4. That usually works for me, but I thought that I had to be logged in to view this. Definitely a better deal in the native currency then!!

Is it just me or does everyone just see a bunch of letters in Dalton's post? Then if you quote it there's a pic?? Anyhow, got 'lil Amy out for a spin around the block on the weekend fired right up. Need to replace one of the HID's or a balast, not sure which probably both forgot about that from last fall. Will have insured & on the road once I get the winter car a nice car wash and oil change.
  6. I just do whatever comes naturally to me. Eating glue sounds odd, and yes the bowl obstructions that you encounter even days later make it not seem worth it. But . . . I mainly live for today. About 15 years ago my life flashed before my eyes, i was in a car accident and I distinctly remember as it was unfolding directly in front of me that I did not find a seat belt and was trying to get low and have myself hurled into the lower dash of the van that I was in shoulder first (there was no passenger seat). Everything went white, I came to and all I can remember is smelling burning coolant and my tummy had bad belt burn. I still insist to this day that I do NOT remember putting that seatbelt on, I remember being frustrated that I couldn't find it. I could so easily die tomorrow, and if I did . . . .why wouldn't I want to enjoy eating glue today . . . .unless it was the thing that killed me tomorrow . . . then that would be bad.
  7. So . . . . a couple of things. 1.) if you are LEGO VIP you can buy the Qwik-E-Mart till April 30th. Some early access - exclusive (you can have access to spending $$$) 2.) I'm wondering if there's someone our there in US-Land that can tell me the USD price for this set. It's $229 Cdn.
  8. Thanks - I did initially suspect that train, but saw the big wheels and turned around and said nope. You made me re-visit that, I'm glad they're available. I'm working on a mod and it wouldn't be the same without those wheels.
  9. I realize that this is 100% unrelated, but I'm curious and don't want to start another thread. The current Power Function wheels with the technic hole in the middle that come on the PF motors these days. I just grabbed about 8 in red colour. Is there a set that these came on or how did these come about??
  10. I look forward to participating in some made for TV monorail dig "a la - Atari ET dig" around 20-25 years from now. We'll either prove that it's lego myth or reality then. Can't wait!!
  11. How do the motors break exactly? How might I want to avoid abusing mine?? Is it the motor itself?? Or the spindle thing at the bottom. I've also taken an interest in the long coupling on the motor vs. the short ones.
  12. I made a massive order - will have to get the specs for you. It came in one big bag and contained a decent amount of big parts. I'm guessing no, but . . . . prove me wrong.
  13. As far as I'm concerned there are no rules with lego. I just found it odd and kept looking at it until I realized . . . 6 studs wide, and got curious as to how it performs. You're talking to someone who's cut their bricks or at least plates (which I consider actually illegal), I was just making light of the situation.
  14. I know that many people think that cheesies are the worst, but I can top that . . . full disclosure. I sometimes eat glue. Nothing industrial strength and not in high quantities, but I occasionally will have just a little kool aide mixed in Elmer glue products. It's something that I got away from as a young teenager and recently got back into while doing crafts with my niece and nephew.
  15. Upon second look, I noticed that this is 6 studs wide. In the words of the immortal Jesse the Body Ventura: "That illegal!!" But seriously how stable/tipsy is a 6 stud wide design?
  16. I'm not sure whether to consider myself lucky or unlucky since I have an addictive personality. I know the basics. The three sets 6990, 6991 & 6399 and some of the aspects that make all of them unique. I also know that Mono means one and rail means . . . . (wait for it) . . . . . rail. I managed to land a second-offer for $75 on a really mixed bag on e-bay. All of the baseplates for airport 6392, instructions for 6395, 577 and a whole bunch of other stuff. 4 long monorail turns, 9 long straights, and one extremely short straight, and a bunch of stands for the monorail. I also got at least one (I think two) of the baseplate bogie things to build the monorail on the 6990 instructions, random pieces from the set, & the 9V battery box. There's a couple of things that I'm obviously missing off the hop. The first is the motor (currently bidding on one on E-bay) - wish me luck! My winnings are currently at my US warehouse so I cannot really view them (might have to wait till mid-May) I obviously want a couple of those pieces to stop or reserve the train in the interim and then afterwards some incline tracks and switches (all of which will be expensive). Is there anything that I need to know right away?? Other than the fact that I might want some old-school light grey 1 X 4 plates stat??? Kind of patiently waiting to see what I do have in this oddity lot, there's a chassis from model team, another from Technic, the car carrier and the supports for the raceway 6395. Windup motor, pull-back motor, weird plane wheels, a police boat?? By far this is the single most screwed up lot of lego that I've ever purchased. I've put the link below if you want to check it out (guy who won had zero feedback and didn't pay, hence the price discrepancy, I should mention that the pics of the guy's socks haven't led me to fall in love with him. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-lego-set-pieces-monorail-boat-power-station-futuron-books-accesories-/221737792641
  17. The obvious one seems to be a small tractor.
  18. In the last 3 months I've hit Pick a Brick in three Toronto locations and one in Troy Michigan. In all three Toronto location it was a struggle (I did them on the same night) to stay under 3 large cups. In the Michigan store it was a challenge to fill one large cup. The wall was full but mainly of crap that I didn't want especially the colour selection. The only saving grace was using VIP points obtained in Cdn $$ and then applying them to purchases in American dollars.
  19. I've tried to cool off a little, I just can't get over her pic. But I've also decided to try and open myself up to the legitimate possibility that others are getting pics from this temptress. So . . . is anyone else getting pictures from this simply astonishing lady?? I honestly appreciate everyone's feedback.
  20. My friend's wedding a year ago we all had Lego cufflinks, 2 X 2 bricks each a different colour. One of the bridesmaids had a bracelet with the same 2 X 2 bricks. We couldn't attach ourselves together because the male lego studs at the top were exposed, but the female connections on the bottom had the metal part for the cufflinks obstructing them. Our only option was to all attach ourselves to the one bridesmaid with the bracelet (unfortunately I don't have a pic) I do have the cufflinks and the lego hinged box that they came in. Your wedding stuff looks epic!! Two thumbs up!
  21. I think that it's just one overweight passenger in the middle of the plane that's causing this. To be honest I was running out of yellow plates for below the seats, but I think that the bowing effect is more an optical illusion. The roof just won't sit flush right at the front and I think more than anything that's causing the slight appearance of bowing, I don't see it along the bottom where the issue should really obvious. Might take a ruler or level to it to make sure though now that you mention it. My second super-sized jet will have the wings two studs forward. I have to get some 2 stud long inverse light grey slopes for the bottom to make that happen with this one as I feel that the wings may be sitting a little too far back.
  22. Just what are you suggesting?? There's been no talk of "when are you getting another order out to me, etc??" I think that she's just a really legitimately nice lady. I don't usually follow my heart, but when I have amazing things have happened in my life. I remember once being in a store and seeing a wrench in the bargin bin. It was a Black & Decker wrench and I was buying groceries, and I had no intention on buying a wrench, but it got to me. I thought, as a home owner - I should really have a wrench. So I bought the wrench and then after months of staying in the packaging I realized that my wrench had "special powers," when I finally broke into the plastic packaging to recycle it. Video might not be safe for work: Anyhow, she's got this girl next door look, and smile that makes me think like I've known her since childhood and she knows me type of thing. It's really hard to explain. Maybe it's nothing, I'm gonna sleep on this and maybe the butterflies in my stomach will go away.
  23. A couple of week's back I made an order with Bricklink with a very friendly lady from Italy and yesterday night she sent me my bricks which were all packaged so nicely (nicer than new Lego directly from Lego). And she included a picture of herself and she's beautiful. Part of me wants to say it's just coincidence, but part of me wants to fly oveseas and see if there's anything more. I know this might sound crazy, but she looks like my one in a million, plus she has Lego.
  24. Parts just arrived in the mail. Red & white plane is still on hold awaiting parts that are yet to be ordered. If it looks, just a tad odd, it is, it's extended four complete bricks and as a result is a massive seven passenger, plus pilot plane. I could NOT find a 2 x 2 blue window on this side of the ocean on Bricklink, yes that bad. I've seen lots on E-bay with one piece or so . . . so I managed to get four from overseas with some other random stuffs that I like. You do not even want to know the amount of classic plane stuff that I have in reserve at this point. Still moar epics projects on the sched. The other "traditional" Transcon2 now has a front roof piece that matches the rest of the roof. One piece that was not around when these planes were in their heyday is those wedge translucent pieces. I think that they look spectacular on the wings. I originally ordered 10 of each and now I'm legitimately fearing that I will soon run out!
  25. This is why we can't have nice secrets . . . . . Seriously though I'm glad that there are a couple of people following along. I'm thinking that these will be pseudo branded plane lines within the lego airports. Words cannot even begin to express my frustration at being stuck without enough normal plates. Every other desired piece I have sufficient quantities of.
