  1. Probably "order of operations" You're going to have to wait for the vendor to change their status to "Shipped" and then you'll have the ability to change to "Received"
  2. If you have a "Lego room" you are not in it for the money. A room is expensive. You look at some of the more popular videos on Youtube and you have people who's apartments don't have a quote-unquote functional living room because of Lego. I'm not a fan of the person that you're speaking of at all, but at the same time I'm not going to question their love of Lego.
  3. Click on "Orders" On the left it says Buyers and right sellers. Select: "My orders placed" Under status you select the drop down for "Received"
  4. Thinking of attaching my 12V motor to a 9V battery box, the train can do all it wants in the 12V section and then switch over to the RC section of track seemlessly, plus the battery pack will be getting charged while in the 12V section. There's also a huge potential for a house fire with this setup - Everyone wins!!
  5. If you actually want her to learn stuff and be creative, this IS how to do it!! This is exactly all I wanted as a kid, just give me piles of this stuff and let 'er rip. I've actually become very disgusted with myself as a adult with my whole attitude of: Don't mix those!!! Keep the sets together!!! Etc. I think that the kids who have a crap tonne of lego and have it all mixed up are the normal ones. The ones that keep all of the sets individual are the screwed up ones. (We're talking 10 years olds & not adults here). Some of the fun is not finding the part and improvising. Until I get more Lego than I know what to do with, I guess I don't understand what's behind the concept of sorting pieces by colour. It's not that my pieces aren't sorted, but I have brilliant colour sensitivity. X1 bricks go together, X2 bricks go together in a bin, plates go together. Fences are sorted by type. Tiles, modified tiles, slopes (most colours mixed again), etc, etc, etc.
  6. I've always loved my 7745, especially the fact that they printed a custom 4 X 3 panel to transition the colours on the train from red to black, and it follows the slope of the front of the train. One of the things that's always hurt my brain is that the doors on the middle car don't have a black top (too much to ask for tri-coloured printed doors). I'm sure that someone out there has managed to repaint their doors. If not, I'm not going to be the first. I'll mod parts that are already screwed up or extremely common. So here's the concept, carry the white through from front to back of the train. Eliminate the black in the middle of the cars. All black windows become red. White continues across the front of the train. I was thinking about it earlier, but now I'm convinced the top plate on the train has to be black and not red (top before the roof pieces). To compensate for the lack of black in the middle height of the train I'm running tints all of the way across. They make tinted windows for the doors and the 2 X 3 windows, but not the 4 X 3 windows. One thing that I'm trying to explore is acquiring a bunch of the plain (non-train) tinted 4 X 3 windows and either score them lightly with an exacto knife or use a circular saw to mimic the open window look Thoughts??? I couldn't be the only person with thoughts of this racing through my head. I can't stand the look for the front, the white slopes will need some kind of decal on them. I've put some tinted glass behind the windows on the sides to give the appearance (a little) of the tints on the sides. Just looking for some feedback on this one, bad feedback is more than welcome (those aren't fighting words, just rather that people be honest.
  7. So . . . . buy a third and convert to cargo. Arctic stuff is just so orange-centric, would go well. Plus I would love to see someone's interpretation of HE in cargo.
  8. Horizon Express modded to look like a cargo train would look pretty fantastic. It would definitely carry the whole orange - black colour scheme very well. Just be advised that the train does NOT contain a motor or track so there's some extra costs associated with it.
  9. This makes me feel brain dead, I'm not sure what keeps these little guys in the bags either. Lately it's making bricklink orders and ordering copious amounts of rare/desired parts and then falling short on the "common parts" when it comes to building. Or having the parts that I need in my US warehouse (I'm all pumped 'cause I'm planning a visit to said US warehouse).
  10. Good morning, Quick question . . . and I have looked through the forum for answers and come up empty handed thus far, there's lots of DIY stuff, but I'm working on a theory and I've found the parts that I think that I need on bricklink. I have a working theory and just want confirmation. If I have . . . . .the two rails with the missing triangle, a regular remote control like 7863 would I be able to control trains stop & go or no. I've never had a 7860 set, and I still mean to get one. But does the remote work the same way as others do?? Then you add the whole red light/green light thing and that only gives you the visual in terms of if the train can go or not? If I had one of these sets I'd just do all of this experimenting on my own. While I'm asking stupid questions. The 7864 set (the actual Transformer), if you assemble the whole technic top assembly and remove the dial, does that thing actually stay together well or does it disintegrate the second that you try to use it?? Third question. If you disassemble a PF cord at one end and plug it into a 12V track while it's already plugged into the 12V transformer and then bridge the positive and negative sides of the track, is it possible to create a time portal that will take me back to 1985?? Thanks in advance.
  11. I was just over at my sister's place and she had picked up some used lego for her son to complement his growing collection of sets (which he will not mix). Somehow he had three of those ancient doors. I thought that they might be worth something. Not something that you see every day, I never had any. But no such luck. I finally got my hands on one 1 x 1 yellow window, have to find another one yet. No freaking wonder these things go missing from just about every set I see for sale. They don't really attach at all!!
  12. I can agree with this a little, but only about 20%. If I opened a thread where you had a MOC of your own of a car, you were calling it let's say a Ford GT40, and I wasn't seeing it. Would it be fair game to comment that that it doesn't look cool enough to be a 1980's Taurus, forget about an epic sports car and then question your intelligence having posted said car pics, and wasting our time with a thread about it?? Would it be truthful - maybe, even yes. Would it be appropriate as per the site rules and the spirit of how most people conduct themselves here. Absolutely not. I'm not trying to pick a fight, but I've seen how welcoming absolutely everyone has been to me and negative comments on someone's appearance kinda cross the line. Carry on. I'm not going to hate on anyone for what was said in this thread. This bigger things that are smaller (lego) in life to worry about.
  13. You might find this weird, since I've said that I'll view a book online and attempt to read it a little. Books are something that I will not pirate (despite basically admitting to doing so). If I want to read your book cover to cover, I'll buy it, and take it to bed with me (that's where I do my reading). I'm quite serious. I might be in the minority and I don't think that I am. There are those who like physical books and those who don't. I do. I would be willing to wager that if you have 10,000 people with pirated versions of the book. Out of the 10,000: 1,000 either ended up buying a digital or physical copy. 8,000 looked at a couple of pages and said "screw it this isn't for me." 1,000 people kept the copy and regularly use it as reference but have no intention to pay for it. So . . . . on the surface, you look and say: "I just got screwed out of 10,000 sales because of piracy. I would argue that you got screwed out of 1,000 sales or thereabouts. The 8,000 people would have never bought the book anyhow. A small percentage of the 1,000 that ended up buying a copy may have never bought one without first having pirated it (piracy breading sales), and a portion of the 8,000 may not have liked your book enough to buy it for themselves, but talk to a friend (advertising - word of mouth) to others who may have bought your products. Forget about the amount of all of the 10,000 pirateers whom may be injecting Youtube adsense revenue streams in your direction because of the books, etc, etc, etc.
  14. There's a very nice review on the Cinema on this forum. I think it looks pretty fantastic.
  15. I'll say at first while our love of lego is pretty much universal that I don't usually cross over into the Technic area of lego many of us will be very "segregated" in that regard. So . . . . unfortunately I cannot appreciate your genius. So many realities today are universal. For me my most unique attribute/ability is my abilities outside of lego (which aren't too astonishing), is playing goalie in ball hockey, I'm both blessed and cursed with some interested physical attributes. Those whom I play with/against often tell me that I'm worth paying to watch. I have unhinged my hips to make stops to gain extension - don't ask how. My abilities with my stick are like watching someone with a light sabre on Star Wars, but in the end I'm going to be left old, penniless and with severe knee damage, but having a lot of fun playing on teams and rec, till then. I think that in the end what you have is a labour of love and to be honest, you've exceeded my successes at leaving a footprint. If a bus hits you tomorrow, you've probably exceeded my impact if a bus hit me. Labour of love and pride (I read this and simply smiled, I kinda want to meet this man!!) http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/elton-mcdonald-toronto-tunneller-discussed-selling-story-boss-says-1.2983440 The world has changed so, so much with the advent of digital technology. It's so much easier to access people and ideas on line. It's so easy to gain a platform, but as you've discovered it's also so easy to lose your intellectual property. If digital technology were around in the early 1980's the American market would have demanded the 12V lego trains. We didn't have it and we didn't get them. We couldn't be an organized voice online, and there was a lack of awareness. Adult lego building and collecting in the 1980's would have been on the fringes of society, and there wouldn't have been a push for the current modular sets if we didn't have digital technology as we do today. I think that the two go hand in hand you can use digital technology to build a brand for yourself. In 1982 if you were the same age everyone would hear about your book and say who the heck is Paul?? Paul is weird, Paul is an adult who wants to play with toys and thinks that we should publish his book. Before you think that this is an insult, I'm playing with lego designed for even younger kids, and proud of it!! Your take is both refreshing in the fact that the grass isn't always greener on the other side of the fence that you're not full of riches for doing what you love, but depressing to those who want to follow in your footsteps - especially ones that want to drop out of college and focus on Lego. Engaging the viewing audience is what makes some of the best Youtubers, the best. If you want what I think is a very brilliant suggestion to both up your view counts online and discourage pointless questions. Here's one idea. Throw a timeline in your description (yes there are people who still won't read) state that at: 1:45 - How to connect two inverse bricks. 3:54 - My little cheat to eliminate shaft play. 7:21 - Other uses for this new purple technic piece. I think that it could broaden your viewer base and cut down your pointless questions and comments. Reading this will encourage me not to pirate, to be 100% honest, I have checked out some pirated versions of books online, I want the print copy always, but if I don't see it at my local bookstore I want to thumb through the pages and little and see if it's worth spending the money on now, or if it's a book that I'd be more likely to put back on the shelf at Chapters.
  16. Rare yellow door modified pieces came in the mail today. Finished product . . . . .for now believe me this is NOT the end destination for these parts, believe me . . . I will make this look good. But we're getting there, was too tempting to do this considering the fact that the top slides for the doors are already present in this set.
  17. On forums people don't always read or understand my questions and answers them perfectly. This is one of the few occasions where two people hit the nail square on the head. Zux - that is what I was anticipating, they do purge, but haven't been around long enough to see a purge. Kinggregus - Excellent idea and thanks for the confirmations. Thanks!!
  18. I think that Canada is really the right answer: I ship much of my parts to the US, and it's basically only a case of what I cannot buy in Canada from TRU etc, I buy in the US and send to my buddy's house. I'll give an example. 60051 (WILL NOT GO ON SALE IN USA TRU) PRICE: $149.99 USD + 5% tax = $157.49 USD Equivalent 60051 (EVERY 5th week in Canada TRU) PRICE: $135.99 CAD That $135.99 translates into $108.79 USD. + 13% taxes in Ontario = $122.93 USD Equivalent This is universal across all of the newer sets that I'm interested in. If I was a US citizen with a Canadian friend that I would visit, I would ship all of my stuffs to Canada. Pick-a-brick until February was equal USD to CAD. Currently my sample order is $6.72 CAD or $6.20 USD. USD value: in US: $6.51 (assuming 5% tax) $6.07 (Canadian converted with 13% taxes). If you go to some place like Alberta their taxes would ONLY be 5%. It's rare to say this, but Lego is one thing that Canadians are not getting punished on . . . .yet.
  19. I'm hoping for some feedback here from experienced Bricklink.com users. In the orders placed section, you can put comments about the order: It's called: "MY NOTE ON ORDER" if you hover over it, you can read your comments. I want to know if Bricklink keeps your orders indefinitely so that I can track who sends worn, dirty or even broken lego, without them having these ugly comments out there for other people to see (I'd rather not get in a pissing match with someone). I'd just rather steer clear of them going forward. Should I be tracking this stuff on Bricklink?? Can the vendor that I'm dealing with read those comments? I'd assume not but just in case?? For those whom have used Bricklink for some time now, do you use it to store this information or just do it separately in a spreadsheet or something??
  20. As you can see it's a picture of my "Lego room", I'm planning on having much more on the walls, but what's there will have to do for now. There's broken up portions of a city on the floor and some on the bed and other crap has overflowed into the main room. I've been trying to return to the 1980's as an adult for some time now, Aside from buying up copious amounts of close-out 12V Legos, there's a whole bunch of other things I need to do, like massive mullet, buy a 3rd F-body car, and there's all sorts of dreamy women with massive abundant totally awesome 80's hairdos. So yeah . . .those are my plans for now, If I get really ambitious I'll take over the world or something, till then, having a room for hockey stuffs, another as a shrine to Transformers and one that I sleep in is enough to keep me content. I would prefer that all of these rooms be much, much, much larger though.
  21. Straight tracks, and lots & lots of white stuff. My whites aren't as white as they used to be. I tried Microwaving them and the colour improved a little, but then fitment became an issue.
  22. One thing that I do is keep an active shopping list. If I need something rare well OOP, etc. I will go to Bricklink. Find the part, filter by my country, and then start riffling through everyone's stores trying to see just how many items I can stroke off my my want list. I'm willing to pay a little more if the vendor has a good reputation with me, or if I can one-stop shop, in other words just pick up everything that I need at their store or a big lot of what I need. I have two lots right now: one is 101 different parts and 838 parts total, another one has 43 unique bricks and 688 pcs total. Only in instances where parts are simply NOT readily available will I go out and place smaller orders/overseas orders.
  23. So . . . all of this showed up in three separate shipments today . . . I have some work to do.
  24. In my younger years. 733, that set had a really high "playability factor" introduced me to some new wheels, was the first set that I owned with strings and much like the modern day "Creator sets" had several variants in the instructions if I recall correctly. In my second go-round with Lego (2000+) it's probably 6394, I wanted that set as a kid, but ultimately settled on: 6395 (they were both the same price, but I could only have one . . . said the parentals at the time. 6394 introduced me to the concept of flipping over the 1 X 1 modified bricks which I was ONLY familiar with using as headlight holders on cars at the time. The set had the elevator, introduced me to the idea of using hoses (whatever you call those black things) for tension on the car wash components, etc. I also love the idea of hinged 3 driveway sets. My first was 6391 back in the day.
  25. After seeing some of the Fox TV show last man on earth I'm convinced that I will NOT be satisfied robbing all of the Lego stores, and department stores of all of their Lego, I'm going to need lots of vintage stuff. I'm wondering if I could get a listing of all of the independent stores in this immediate area with Lego. The only one that I've really found that's any good is Lasting Toys in Mississauga. I'm going to try and compile a listing of what all of these stores have. If it is not enough I might have to start getting the addresses of people who have Lego in their personal collections. I think that if I'm the only man left on earth Lego might be the key to me maintaining my sanity. If I think that I'm the last man on earth, I do plan on around 50 break-and-enters per day. So . . . um if you happen to be around, and you're bored and trying to stockpile Lego at your place, tie a tie around your front door handle so I don't break in and take your Lego stash or scare the heck out of you. I'm also most likely to be found in an arena or something with a massive train layout . . . so hit me up!!! Playing with trains has to be an immediate priority as the world's supply of batteries will eventually go bad.
