  1. Here is my review on Harry Potter 76420 Triwizard Tournament: The Black Lake: THE GOOD: Great minifigures selection. The design of Ron and Hermione suspended underwater is great. THE NOT SO GOOD: Nothing specific to be honest... I was originally drawn into this set with the variation of the minifigure parts, after seeing a 20% discount on Amazon AU, decided to go for it and I actually enjoyed the set more than I would expect. First there aren't any negatives I particularly want to point out as in my opinion there are none expect for the RRP. The overall building experience isn't complex at all but still offer some cool details and interesting ways of building. It's good the top part and the bottom are connected like modular buildings for easy removal. The highlight for is the way Ron and Hermione appear to be suspended underwater, this gives me a lot of ideas on how to utilise this techniques in other builds. There is also an action feature allowing Harry to dive into the lake. This set also comes with some very good minifigure variants. I especially like some of the secondary expressions. At RRP this set can somewhat feel expensive, but it's not hard to find a place discounting this. I will totally recommend this to all HP fans and casual lego fans.
  2. Here is my review on 75353 Endorâ„¢ Speeder Chase Diorama: THE GOOD: Looks great. Building experience is a lot more detailed than your typical 600 psc set. Absolutely loving the bushy terrain, very good use of the new fern pieces. Can easily remove the star wars printed parts and use it for other dioramas. Great minifigures. THE NOT SO GOOD: You have to display this in an angle, otherwise the tree trunk on the right will block your view on Leia's bike. putting the minifig in the bike and even placing the speeder bike to the diorama can be difficult without having parts falling off. Overall, the is a very good diorama set. It looks great, however you will have to look at it from an angle rather than just in front of you as one of the trunk would block the view of the 2nd speeder bike. Minifigures are great and can't complain on so much details packed in a 600 pscs set. The detail incorporated into the terrain build is excellent and great use of the new fern pieces. And you can easily have a jungle/forest themes dioramas if you take out the star wars themed printed pieces. I did feel it's worth my spending especially I bought this 30% off. I will definitely recommend this set to everyone. While it's still not cheap and it can be a pricey but still cheaper than the other ones and I believe the use of greens in this set do worth the price. Also I think, for people have unlimited funds, buying lots of them would make an epic dioramas lol
  3. Here is my review on 60361 Ultimate Stunt Riders Challenge: THE GOOD: It actually looks good by itself, and rarely from a stuntz set able to be display on its own. It's actually a 3 in 1 with each challenge separable. Awesome minifigures. Full loop in new colour. THE NOT SO GOOD: Price ... I wouldn't have bought this without discount. The main stunt is extremely difficult to pull off. I actually like this set, it's looks pretty cool once finished. Not a big set but actually quite tall. And because how the main stunt is designed, it also provide an interesting building experience other stuntz sets lack. One of the main reason I was drawn to this set is because of the blue colour loop and the minifigures. As with most Stuntz sets, the minifigures do not disappoint. Especially the 2 exclusive ones. The female rider torso and helmet really make me think I can make a Kang minifgure from it. Also the 3 challenges can be separated on their own which proves to be important because the full stunt is extremely difficult to pull off. You will have to have enough speed and the bike enters the loop at the right spot to knock the alien from its UFO. Really hoped I have a more successful rate in pulling this off. The other thing and the main thing put people off this is the price, at RRP 150 NZD, it hurts the wallet. Despite my wish to own this set, if I hadn't got my discount I wouldn't have bought it. Although in the end I did have a great time and like the set in the end, I will only recommend this set to people who show interests in stunt or have parts you want from this. OK now, I have acquired the blue loop, time to combine the other 2 loops from last year set to make a Triple Look Challenge!
  4. Here is my review on the retired set 75319 The Armorer’s Mandalorian Forge: THE GOOD: Exclusive minifigs to this set and Paz Vizsla is a great minifig. Given its size, the details are quite nice and building experience is interesting enough. THE NOT SO GOOD: Hard to apply stickers. For some, it may be lacking some action features compare to similar sets. Finally, opened this and I'm glad I bought this when it first released. The after market price has been climbing steeply because of the popularity increase of the minifigures included. Anyway back to topic, I like and enjoyed this set. The details on the forge is great. Good to get the blue candle flames. There are less action features compared to other similar sets but some small details on the wall/work shop build. I like the unprinted helmet, this is a nice touch to be honest. Some stickers are difficult to apply though. The highlight of this set is no doubt the minifigures, so far this is the only set including The Armorer and Paz Vizsla. Paz is probably the best minifigure in this set, The Armorer, I wish there is the actual neck fur piece rather than just printed but I can see it will be difficult to fit the helmet in this case. Even at original price, it's still a bit high and one could also suggests let's just have the forge + the 3 minifigures to make this set cheaper. Having said that, this is still a recommended set from me especially if you like the show. Let's hope the characters reappear in future sets.
  5. based off the price of a lot of recent novelty pieces.... it will be more economical to buy multiple of the sets
  6. Managed to get the Monkey Market Place polybag, really hard to find if you live in NZ like me. Glad that I bought it though, really cool small set. Can't wait for the upcoming wave, especially the palace but very pricey. Need to figure out how to fund them XD
  7. which means you need to buy 2 sets to get a full family XD I'm kinda give up on waiting as some of the 2023 sets are already on 40%~60% clearance here. It would be cheaper to take the animals and resell the main set. And since switching to the new strategy, some parts get removed and some parts even non licensed never appear, for those novelty parts pricing is a bit high. I miss the old B&P service.
  8. Great White is a smaller set is nice but I want the Orca. Orca usually travels in pods.... it's gonna be more expensive than Rivendell to get a pod of Orcas XD
  9. Here is my review on 2023 LEGO Ideas 21338 A-Frame Cabin: THE GOOD: Looks amazing. Tons of interior details. Great building experience. Including new 2023 hair piece and lots of animals. THE NOT SO GOOD: There is a visible gap between the roofs but I believe this is depended on individual bricks quality. This is a great set. The look, the interiors, the building experience are all top notch. As many have pointed out before, the use of Thor's hammer just brilliant. Having different levels to put the tiles on to give it more textures is also great. It's not just about the exterior, the interior is packed with details too. I was so happy to see the Ideas Tree House in brick built miniature form. Yes, toilet is missing but hey, if you notice the toilet paper outside, then you know how the visitors going to take a dump =P. This sets also come with great parts, lots of animals, unique printed tiles and a new 2023 hair piece. There are opinions of the trees look a bit too empty, in my view, the balance just right. The actual thing looks better than in photos and having additional foliages could increase repetitiveness in the building experience. On top of that, you can freely rearrange the side builds as well. One thing to note though, my copy did have a visible gap between the roofs, but I think it is more to do with the individual quality than overall problem with the design. At $300NZD, it is in fact on the more affordable side considering most other D2C sets are so expensive. This is is excellent, I had a great time and a definitely recommended for everyone.
  10. Here is my reivew on 2023 LEGO City Stuntz 60359 Dunk Stunt Ramp Challenge: THE GOOD: Great new Raptor Bike body! Exclusive minifig Useful parts in unique colours. THE NOT SO GOOD: So difficult to pull off the challenge, I wonder if it's impossible ... fun to see it fail the first few tries but sometimes you do want to succeed. Lack of appeal if you are not into the bike nor the parts. First, whoever named this set should get some recognition on how hard to say the set name! As with all stuntz sets, it comes with excellent minifigure and I really like the new raptor bike and it's exactly the reason I bought this. The challenge though, while it comes with some cool parts (I particularly love the purple orange flame) the stunt itself is so difficult to pull off. It's fun at the start to see different variations of failed attempts but I think it is important to get least have a 20% success rate, so far I have 0% success rate. Sadly while I liked the bike it's difficult for me to recommend this set to everyone. It's not that expensive but very hard to find a valid reason to buy this set unless you are into the parts given the stunt design while it's interesting it is just too difficult to pull off. On a side note, for some reason in NZ this is only available from lego.com or the certified store, not sure if it will widely available down here. So the chance of picking this set with 50~60% off is very unlikely.
  11. Here is my review on 77015 Temple of the Golden Idol: THE GOOD: Stunning looking set. A rare display set with excellent play features. The boulder action is incredible. Brick built statues and the faces are very well done. THE NOT SO GOOD: Plaque not printed. If you follow the instruction, some parts can be frustrating to build because of the tight spaces in some areas. A steep price tag without discount. This is one great display piece. On top of that it's packed with play features which is not that common on a 18+ set. First, each section really capture the vibes of what you see in the movie. Then the play features are sensational. The brick built boulder works extremely well, the fact that it spins quite quickly is incredible. The next best action is the golden idol trap, great use of the light brick. You don't get the swing and closing gates which both are good but hard to those the first two mentioned. Also in order to have these features also lead to some quite advanced building experience as well. The are also tons of details through out the build, it's surprising how well those brick built statues and faces work. An updated Indiana Jones minifigure is always welcome. Other minifigures may have less impact but still good overall. It's not without it criticism thou, the lego and dialogue plaque are stickers which is disappointing especially there are other new parts with lovely prints. There are also some areas quite difficult to access which at some point, it's little frustrating while building this set. Pricing also lean towards the higher end which means this is pretty pricey even though at the end I'm very satisfied with the completed build. This is definitely a great lego set I would recommend to everyone despite some of the flaws. I wish LEGO continues to do more dioramas like this =)
  12. yup you are totally correct. yes, that piece of cloth is so useful
  13. I just got this out from storage recently and wow so difficult to rebuilt when previously didn't fully dissemble. But such a nice set, although I misplaced the Sheriff somewhere. Here are some of my renewed thoughts: THE GOOD: A great set with everything to offer in the western theme. It's a pretty massive set considering the area the wall covered and lots of area to place different build inside. 3 very detailed side considering the complexities of build offered in 1996. The stickers back then surprisingly still not peeling. THE NOT SO GOOD: Still baffle on the decision in the old days having stickers on multiple pieces. While there is space of a full base plate in the centre but can feel a bit empty if you have nothing to put inside. the shape changes a big with the designed technique to connect all 4 wall.
  14. someone suggested it's Disney Microfighters lol. The moana's section does give me ideas to transform it to jurassic park gate with the t-rex costume minifig though.
  15. Here is my review on 43212 Disney Celebration Train: THE GOOD: Great Minifigures Good to get new wings for Tinker bell Moana in minifigure form Exclusive printed parts and you get 2 x Disney mickey head shaped pieces Appreciate the action feature they incorporated into Woody's car THE NOT SO GOOD: Half of Moana's present sticking out CMF Peter Pan is a better minifig One word, this is a disney minifigures pack. Given it's a 4+ set, building experience is really at beginner level and nothing complex. I do give it some credits for the woody spinning stage at this size. As with all 4+ sets, you get exclusive printed elements and getting 2 mickey head shaped piece is definitely a plus. However, the present place of Moana's car is a bit odd with half of the box sticking out. The highlight of this set is definitely the minifigures selection. It's great to get 6 minifigures and 5 of them are exclusive to this set. Great update to Tinker Bell's wings and good to get a Moana in minifigure form. Although Peter Pan is slightly inferior if you compare this to the CMF version. While price still toward the higher end, I do think this is a pretty good deal considering at $70 NZD (most places selling at $60 NZD), you get 6 minifigures usually at $5NZD each, so you get $30NZD worth of minifigures and a pretty decent set at $30NZD. But of course if you are into the building experience then it will be expensive. Depending what your are into, if you are a minifigure fan, then I would definitely recommend this one to you.
  16. Here is my review on Disney 43217 Up House: THE GOOD: Looks great with a more complex building experience than your typical disney sets. Excellent minifigures and great to have a new moulded Dug. There are a lot of interior details and references than you would expect. THE NOT SO GOOD: Extremely pricey. The door sticker is a pain to apply. This is one of my most anticipated sets in 2023 and it does not disappoint. The house itself looks great and the design provides you some very interesting and refreshing build. Even inside the house, despite being quite shallow, it's packed with furnitures and references to the movie. This results is a much more rich and complex building experience than your typical disney sets. On top of that, the minifigures come with this set is excellent. Both minifigures capture the vibe of the characters so well. And this set also includes Dug the dog with a brand new mould rather than unique printing on existing dog moulds. This sets does come with a few stickers but I didn't mind and the stickers make sense. However, the door sticker is very difficult to apply if you have shaky hands like me. In terms of the balloons, yes it's not as much as the one in the movie but I do believe it's just right because if there are more balloons, the house may fall due to balancing issue. Also it may also make the build too repetitive if they incorporate more balloons. It's a truly great set especially if you love the movie. However, this sets does come with a hefty price, at $100NZD without discount, it does feel pricey. Even I bought it with 10% off, it really stopped me buy another 2 of these to make a fully enclosed house. Having said that, the end product did a good enough job which lead me recommending this set to everyone.
  17. Here is my review on 10312 Jazz Club: THE GOOD Looks great and much better than product photos. Just enough new building techniques and design to keep the experience refreshing. The Green House even though the tomatoes a bit big =P Great selection of exclusive parts (new pizza, cello ... etc) THE NOT SO GOOD A few hard to access areas where it limits the visibility of some very nice small details in this set. Not really fitting the colour scheme of other modulars, I still couldn't figure out which 2 other modulars are best to put beside this. May be just mine but the side of the roof seems to be 0.5mm wider than the next level down. I really like this set in the end, it may not be my top modular but it has plenty of greatness I appreciate. One thing I want to note is that some of the new building techniques really make this another refreshing build, because if you have owned a lot of modulars, it can become a bit repetitive at time, the new ways of building things are so crucial and I think this set has done it right. On its own, the Jazz Club looks really good and I do think the actual colour combination looks way better than what's in the product photos. The highlights for me are the green house and the entrance. The green house is such a cool build you could reuse the same techniques elsewhere although the tomatoes are definitely too big and I also wonder what are the herbs the chef is planting =P The entrance also great. This sets also comes with a great selection of new parts both printed and recolour of existing bricks. Minifigures comes with some very cool exclusive prints (at least for now it's exclusive to this set). I wish they include a few more minifigures to be the audience of the show but anyway I have an excessive amount of minifigures so doesn't really bother me. There are so much cool small details in this set which brings me to the few criticism of this set. While it's a common issues with modular build like this, some of the areas are quite hard to access or view unless you break the wall apart. Also may be it was just my set but the one side of the roof seems to be sticking out around 0.5mm, it's very minor but it sometimes trigger the OCD inside of me. Otherwise, this set is very good. While not the top of all modulars but it really has enough greatness that made me recommend this to everyone.
  18. yes, but I wish they have cherry and green apple one in a cup already :P
  19. is it a dog? I thought it's a car XD. exactly why not really a fan of brick built animals in this size. too abstract to tell what are they.
  20. Here is my review on 60372 Police Training Academy: THE GOOD: Impressive obstacles course. A working zip line Very interesting building experience across the set Excellent minifigures parts. Modular design and lots of small details in the interior. (very nice coffee machine) THE NOT SO GOOD: Due to the angular design, you do get a huge gap between the main central part and the climbing wall. I'm sure in an actual LEGO world this doesn't happen. Overall, this is a fun set and I like it very much. Originally I was drawn to this set because of the obstacles course, and it does not disappoint. On top of that, there are quite few details within the build that are pretty cool as well. The weight training gym and the little coffee machine is definitely one of the highlights. While you cannot really connect the equestrian training section to the main build but it's still full of details. For example, some of the poles are intentionally not connected to any other pieces so you can simulate a failed attempt to jump over. Anyway, the main star of this set is really the obstacles course. Clearly inspired by Sasuke/American Ninja Warrior, the building experience has been fun and on top of that, there is actually a working zip line. The moving platform on top of water is also really interesting. You can probably use different section's design to create you own LEGO ninja warrior course. The set is also designed in a modular way which allows you to remove/update levels easily. On top of all the fun, this set also includes quite a few new 2023 heads with very fitting facial expressions. Even though there are few flaws your logical brain might asks some questions, this is definitely still a set I would recommend to everyone :) and you will probably get some decent discounts on it as well.
  21. Here is my review on 2023 LEGO City 60384 Penguin Slushy Van: THE GOOD: Great Pop looking Van and this allows some fresh experience despite having same action features compared to other food trucks. 2 exclusive minifigures (at least for now) THE NOT SO GOOD: The slushies did not come with all flavours advertised lol I enjoyed building this set and the end results look good. Despite having similar to identical actions features as other similar food trucks build, this one comes with a pop feel exterior which allows you to experience a slightly different building experience. I especially like the design of the rear of the van. Interior is limited with the space available but the slushies machine is great small build. I wish this set included the other 2 flavours as minifigures accessories but this set only have pieces to create 2 flavours only. Talking about the minifigures, this set comes 2 new exclusive minifigures (at least for now). Both excellent and always good to get animal costumes. At $35 NZD, this is acutally a very competitive pricing given City theme usually selling with 15~20% off. Overall, it is indeed a good small set with a fun building experience which I totally recommend this to anyone.
  22. I like it, especially the front grill and also the fact that you can fit all furniture builds in. Having said that, as I pointed in my earlier post, it's an expensive GWP, probably won't get it if I needed to hit the threshold for the sake of it.
  23. Here is my review on 2023 Creator 3 in 1 31139 Cozy House: THE GOOD: Very good looking house in default configuration with both sides front facing. Extremely detailed in the exterior and garden. Lots of useful furnitures builds. The building experience is a lot more challenging than your typical 8+ set. THE NOT SO GOOD: Some of the smaller brick built items, at least for me I would have not guess what they are unless being told what they are. This is one very good looking set. And I did not anticipate the complexity of the build, which was a fun experience. The exterior and garden have some very very nice details. Especially the stone paths and the patio area. The roof gives you a bit of taste on what you can expect for the upcoming Rivendell, and it's really a test of patience. By far, in my opinion the default build look the best while the apartment build do look interesting, the A shaped Cabin build probably not as good when you also own the Ideas A shaped Cabin. Apart from the lovely exterior, the interior is also very detailed with lots of useful furniture builds. Is this the first time we have a Minifigure double bed? While the build can be fully enclosed, once closed it does feel the house is very crowded inside and not cozy at all :). At 110NZD without discount, the set is not cheap but you can easily get 15~20% at launch for this, so this makes the pricing very competitive with the complex building experience and the details packed in this set. This is definitely a set I would recommend and I'm very happy with it.
  24. thanks, I hope you like this one too =)
