That has also confused me for a number of years, I guess its the classic ambiguity of Lego, if I had to chose I would say it is the ghost of the Black Monarch, because the 1988 castle was called Black Monarchs Castle while the one realsed in 1992 was called Black Knights Castle I always assumed that the Monarch had died in the following years (hence the name change to the castle). I guess the knight was just visting the black monarch haunting spot to see what was happening (like in the beginning of Hamlet). I like the idea of an army marching under the banner of a dead monarch that still haunts some of his land. I can understand your disagreement with the Black Knights sets, as lookng at them now I can see a big difference between the Dragon Masters and the Black Knights, it was just that when I was a kid I never realised this and I always assumed that the Dragon Masters were just a slightly evolved form of Black Knights (I thought the same with Forestmen and Dark Forest, and Crusaders and Royal Knights). I think it was a real shame lego never gave the Black Knights a torso design and then reused the Shield (with a color change)as looking at the Black Knights now they are one of the coolset old factions, strading between the classic of Crusaders and Falcons yet with a morden twist. I would call them the last of the classic factions (Crusaders, Falcon's, Forestmen and Black Knights), whilst I see the Dragon Masters, Wolfpack, Royal Knights and Fright Knights the next generation, all have merits in there own way but I always love the classics (the generations after that went down hill alot).

SirSven7 replied to Solscud007's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Man I really want a few of those, anyone know where I can get one in England? -

Another great review, I am enjoying these I am not such a fan of this set as it feels like a degrade from the other raft set. Still its better than most of what we get these days Cheers
-
Nice a review on all the sets would be great. Again this one is brilliant. I loved this set because you get the blue pirate and the hat (which was my favorite) Great work again

Great review, this is such a beautiful little set, one of my favorite from back in the day. Cheers

Thanks alot guys its nice to get so much feedback Both the castle's from this faction were brilliant, as each had alot to offer the castle series. TheLegoDr - I had the same issue with my Black knights, alot of them got moved to my crusaders or falcons and i think thats a shame as the deserved better. I agree with the modern sets, I like them but they will never compare to the sets of old. That last pic is sadly a prototype castle set that was never released (i added that at the bottom of my blog to avoid confusion ). Alot of the alternative sets are on http://www.rittersets.de/, its a german site but the pics are universal I am a bit sad that I have finished with the sets of the 80s as they were my fav and now I feel like I am slowly sliding into the castle depression of the late 90s and early 00s and a am not looking forward to it as much (though I still love writing the blogs). Keep watching this space guys because I plan on doing my Wolfpack review very soon Cheers all

I know but what I am asking is why, why would I go to a different part of the forum and shift through the work there to find stop motion movies, or set reviews on youtube about castle sets, when we could have them here on this the historic page. I know what I am asking might be impossible but i never really search for cool lego movies on this site, i use youtube most of the time and I think thats a shame, its a missed opertunity. I know it probably won't change but I thought I would ask Cheers

Just a work update. I have now popped my Black Knight article online and Wolfpack will only be a few days behind (only three sets to look at for those guys). I was just wondering if you would creat a space for all the stop motion work people make out there as it is always the hardest stuff to find on eurobricks and some of it is really good. Cheers

Hello again all Im sure this is nothing new to most of you by now. I have reviewed the Black Knights sets The Lego Black Knights Sets 1988-1993 I hope you enjoy, feedback would be most welcome. Cheers

Your first pirate MOC, bravo, its really nice I love the natural progression from sea to sand to jungle. I am guessing that its high tide because the sea is so close to the foliage Very nice moc

186C Flickr and Forbidden Cove Member Jalkow has created this very interesting Moc for a contest on Forbidden Cove, I will let him use his own word to introduce it (as found on his Flickr Site), I hope you all like it. ----- 'Arrr! That's not a witch! That's me daughter!' Entry for the Seed Part Challenge, over at Forbiddencove. Seedparts: the batman-handcuffs, wings and 4L bars. Twist: a MOC about the Salem witch trails. I'll be honest: this little lady was a terrible thing to build: I first came up with all the minifigs, to get their standing/expression right. Then came the buildings and when I finished the whole scene I came up with the idea of a base. Hooray for building a MOC backwards! SPC - The rescue of Miss. Take By Jalkow

This is looking crazy good, I love the sturdiness of the build, if I was a crewmember I would feel so safe. I can't wait to see how it progresses. Cheers

Thats cool You want us to work on making this place more exciting for the LEGO fan Have you thought of a place for Lego animation as some of the stuff they do is brilliant This guy especially does some amazing stuff.Cheers

I would pick a faction based on the older sets and looking more at reviews and articles (as its my strength), I like Falcon's but my tag was for doing the articles I don't think it has anything to do with the guilds we will hopefully get.
-
Well I see them all as outlaws, plus I always imaged that Dark Forest where a basic algermantion of both wolfpack and forestmen (done rather poorly). Like I said its just an idea to tie in all the sets (that way we get forestmen )
-
I agree that we can't have too many factions, because then it would get clustered and confused, but why not have factions that can encompass many actual teams for example Royal Faction (Lion Knights, Crusaders, Crown Knights, ect.) Dragon Faction (Dragon Knights, Black Knighst, Dragon Masters, ect) Outlaw Faction (Wolfpack, Forestmen, Bull Knights, ect.) Evil Faction (Trolls, Fright Knights, Skelentons, ect.) This is just a rough idea and the actual names and where groups go could be easily changed; but I think it could work every one could include their fav group in it with out everyone splitting up. and it also works very similar to how alot of us collect lego, sure I have modern Lion Knights, but I have used them in Moc's with some old Crusaders, so why not put them together? As long as the factions link together in some reasonable sense I can't see the biggest problem, still we might have people demanding that some faction be moved (bull knights to evil for example) which could make things very complicated. For me though, if we don't have some of the older sets (Black Falcon, Forestmen), it dosen't feel like LEGO. Just an idea
-
I see them too, I think its a conspiracy, more and more people will have numbers insteed of names. I am not a number, I am a free man, though if I had to choose my number would be six

Thanks again everyone I love these old sets, I am a little sad I only have a couple more before I have too look at Fright Knight's (still better than the jelly bean knights that came later). I also wish the later sets had construction ideas on the back, i think it is something LEGO should bring back as it highlights the creativity of the sets. The Crossing set was only in the USA (I will add that), it was also one of the last sets for Forestmen, I have no idea where I got mine (though I do have two uncles that did (and still do) live in the US, so that might be soemthing to do with it, as they visited twice a year ) Don't worry my next review is already half done (I had nothing to do yesterday) and should be up by friday at the latest, sadly it is not wolfpack or dark forest just yet, but they will be looked at soon. I think they didn't change the heads because they didn't want the sets to clash with older ones, they did the same with the crusaders and falcon's, even though both had minifigs released in the early 90's neither one had any other style for there males heads (the crusaders princess in mountian fortress also has a printed face like the forstman's wench). A revival would be most welcome, More Forestmen I say (however we are seeing a falcon for the first time since 1992 next year, twenty years later, so I guess anything is possible)

All your squad look really sweet, i like the guy with the eye patch the most, whatevers coming I am sure they can handle it (they look tough enough). I can't wait for whats next, my guess is a gaint army of bugs(or robots)

Well he's actually a member of forbidden cove and he took these pics back in january but they never got posted on our site, feeling that you where all missing out (as I think there both awesome) I posted them up. The large boat in the post is my favorite part for this set (and the varied building styles).

This is really good,I have no idea how he made it, apart from the hat the rest of it looks just like a normal minifig (and its huge) I want one
