  1. As for the self-reproducing machine(s) I see some interseting lines of thought passing by and that's Great! It has been mentioned by bonox that there is a difference between being able to assemble a copy of yourself from constituent parts versus having to create those parts as well as put them together. Although I was actually aiming for the latter category - because the first category would imply creating Lego pieces with Lego pieces, which seems to be too high a goal for now - I would like to add a third category: a machine - build from Lego pieces - that can put itself together from constituent parts rather than reproduce itself (funny side note: the expression "put yourself together" gets a whole new meaning in this context ). To start off with the 3rd (easiest) category, I think I have an idea of a simple machine that can put itself together. I will work it out in LDD and post an image in a minute...
  2. After Blakbird's legendary comment I think this thread should be prepared for anything philosophically substantial self- evidently philosophical
  3. And I guess sharing such information would not violate any embargo.
  4. Exactly. That is what I was confirming.
  5. My mistake. The middle one is indeed the 22969 (PP or FT) wheel. In this image the inner diameter of the F1-tyre looks smaller, but the Porsche tyre is partly covered by the outer ridge of the new wheel.
  6. Given this comparison image the only candidate rims/tyres that might be exchangable with the Porsche rims/tyres are the Tumbler (or 42050) rims/tyres. From left to right: Unimog rim, Tumbler rim and Porsche rim.
  7. I did not mean to be a busybody taking away your pleasure here at Eurobricks. I'm sorry if that's the way you have perceived my comment. I was actually referring to the whole pricing-discussion and not just your post. I should probably not have posted my comment in reply to your post. The suggestion of using the Porsche-pricing topic for price related posts was also done by someone else, but completely ignored. I found that pitiful, but I also understand that you can't just move a running conversation to another topic. Next time I'll formulate this kind of comment as a suggestion rather than a demanding question. Peace, or as you say, 'on with the show'
  8. They do look tight in the middle section so my guess would be that this will fit.
  9. Billund is in Denmark, Jim is from The Netherlands. I know the Danish would like to, but Denmark is not part of The Netherlands. Agreed, however, when I would have everything I wanted whenever I wanted I would have great fun, all the time  Sorry for off topic nonsense
  10. You say 'yeah', but articulated is not the same as skid steering. The John Deere Skidder is an articulated vehicle but lacks skid steering, whereas a normal tank is not artculated but does have skid - or cross-drive - steering.
  11. Or are you referring to skid steering or cross-drive steering so you can switch between both tracks running in the same direction and both tracks running in opposite direction? Triple differential steering is a technique used in tanks.
  12. Okay, I understand. But what I still don't understand is how it can be 'one piece' and articulated at the same time. Do you have a real-life example?
  13. In your other topic I don't see an articulated vehicle. How do you imagine a tracked vehicle being articulated other then by having two separate tracked vehicles that are connected using a pivoting joint?
  14. Thanks, didn't know that! Apparently the tilting mechnism in the Wesll is a known 'patented' mechanism, although very well implemented in this case, but I find the Swincar more intriguing. Makes me - once again - think of Rocker-Bogie suspension which has also been mentioned in this topic.
  15. Sariel did a simple articulated tracked vehicle: http://sariel.pl/2010/12/hagglunds-bv-206/
  16. Thanks for putting effort in a review of 42037! It can hardly be a coincidence that I bought this set today for my son via marktplaats.nl for 30 euro's (sealed) :classic: Your text is still full of markup. Make sure that each opening tag (
  17. +1nerdsforprez, you're putting exactly the right perspective and relativity to the 'ultimate'-discussion. Besides that, your sophisticated comments are a joy to read. Just as much as reading a good background article in the newspaper is. Of course it helps that I share your POV
  18. I think the marketeer following this topic at TLG is having another coffee now...
  19. Indeed fascinating! My guess is that at least part of the mechanism relies on keeping the center of gravity of the frame carrying the driver lower than the joints holding that frame, which makes that part operate as a kind of swing. But there will cetainly be more to it EDIT: Sorry, I was referring to the E-Spider. I don't have a clue - yet - how the Wesll operates...
  20. EDIT: Removed lines referring to the same thing Jim is addressing in the first line of the next reply.
  21. And to add to that: If the goal was to generate buzz, the term 'ultimate' has done its job already. See the 2527 replies - and counting - to this topic. It made me decide to buy this set, because now that I have been dragged into this I want to judge all the vehicle's aspects by myself. Reviews are only going to help me decide when.
  22. Some very interesting suspensions: Wesll Leaning Vehicle: Swincar E-Spider: Did anybody build something like this with Lego?
  23. Could you please continue the pricing-buzz on the Porsche pricing-topic? If it's about price in relation to value okay, but when it's about exchange rates and posting costs etc., I think it's a bit off topic.
