I think that's very unlikely unless it's in conjunction with a theme based on the same time period. GWPs have a much smaller budget for new parts than regular sets (hence why the amount of stickers on tiles and such) and they don't have much in the way of period-appropriate minifigure parts for these periods (the various CMF stuff being presumably no longer in rotation).

LEGO Star Wars 2024 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!
Alexandrina replied to MKJoshA's topic in LEGO Star Wars
This could have been what happened, but that feels like a weird logical leap to take imo (not yours; the theoretical people you mention). Maybe I'm weird but when someone says to me 'throne room' in a Star Wars context, I definitely think of the Emperor's throne room before Jabba's. To be honest I probably think of Snoke's throne room and maybe even Amidala's throne room (does she have one? The room where she has the meeting with Sio Bibble) before Jabba's -
Could LEGO remake Fright Knights?
Alexandrina replied to Fulcrumfan91's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
The problem with this is that there are really three groups of AFOLs here: Those who want Fright Knights to return. Those who want <insert other classic theme> to return. Those who actively don't want Fright Knights to return. You're never going to get the AFOLs in group 3 to take up the call for Fright Knights, but I'd wager most people in group 1 also belong to group 2 - and that most people in group 2 don't have Fright Knights as their number one most wished for theme. If Lego did a Fright Knights wave next year, I'd buy all the sets I could afford. I bet a lot of people on these forums would, tbh, both for the nostalgia and the fact that it's a Castle theme. But how many of those people are going to devote their 'voice' to calling for Fright Knights over Crusaders or Forestmen or Wolfpack? Or even Knights' Kingdom I? I'd personally prefer to see Western sets again - in a fantasy world where Lego called me, personally, and asked me what theme they should bring back, I'm going Western over Fright Knights every time. Getting a groundswell of vocal support for a theme which is, let's say, divisive is going to be a tall order. -
Honestly this seems like the ideal for a GWP (with obvious allowances for special torsos and such). Having GWPs be full of new or rare parts just makes those who aren't able to get the GWP feel bad that they missed out. IMO rare or unique parts should be confined to sets that have a regular retail life and that people will be able to buy without having to drop a set amount of money at a set time. A GWP is really a nice bonus to your purchase, and a model that you could acquire the pieces for cheaply if you so chose just means people who can't afford to get the set during its two-day window can still enjoy the build. There's people talking about feeling forced to drop money to get the GWP - but can you imagine how much stronger this sentiment would be if the set included some exclusive recolours of incredible Castle parts? (I'm drawing a blank on examples here, so feel free to input whatever part you desperately want!)

Lego Icons 10332 Medieval Town Square Discussion Thread
Alexandrina replied to BrickJagger's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I see where you're coming from - you're right it could probably be made to work - but for me the buttons and the shape of the green fabric make it very vest-like. (I don't think there's any issue with it being a sleeveless kirtle, though - they might have had sleeves as standard, but the Wikipedia illustration for kirtles is a 1600s painting of a woman wearing a sleeveless kirtle, so they aren't without attestation) -
I'm fairly sure that's the head of the biker that Shaggy beat up in Legend of the Phantosaur.

Lego Icons 10332 Medieval Town Square Discussion Thread
Alexandrina replied to BrickJagger's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Yeah I see that. I just really hope they don't use the green female torso introduced in Barracuda Bay, that doesn't fit a medieval setting at all imo -
I think especially with high-threshold GWPs like this, it's even more pronounced. People lucky enough to be in a position to afford the GWP are - for the most part - unlikely to be the same people whose Lego collection is so sparse they desperately need white 2x2 tiles. From my own childhood experience, in the period when I was desperate for plain parts, the current GWP threshold was pretty much the sum cost of all the Lego I'd have in three years (both gifts and what I'd bought myself) - and I know people who had far less to spend on Lego.

Honestly my view is probably coloured by the fact that I'm unlikely to stick rigidly to the original helmet pairings for these factions. I never grew up with the classic factions (though I do own Majisto's Workshop now) so I see the torsos more as something I can use for my films than a chance to bring the Dragon Knights back. Silver helms suit me just fine! (That said, I cannot stand the shoulder pad piece in any context and definitely won't be rushing to acquire any to go with my eventual Dragon Knight fig)

Honestly this was exactly my view when I was younger - I was only able to get so much Lego every year, so I saw every stickered/printed piece as a waste since I couldn't use it in other contexts. My view has softened as I've got older, mainly because I can afford to buy more Lego and have enough now that one piece having a sticker is rarely make or break.

Looking closely at the new minifigure, I'm actually really hoping we get another Dragon Knight set at some point (or they at least find their way to PAB). The torso, especially with the back detailing, is a really good update and fits nicely with other modernisations.

Oh yeah I remember the attempt to retcon a clone into ROTJ. I reject that wholeheartedly because it's an example of Filoni thinking he's better than everyone else. I did try the Clone Wars series but it was so dire I put it all out of my mind (I have a vague memory of a half-naked Kit Fisto swimming in a pool which I'm not sure if it was a dream or not) I'd imagine broadly the same all round, with AFOLs more likely to reject stickers than kids. There was a big long thread somewhere about stickers versus prints, but I haven't seen it for a while. I'm surprised nobody's dug it up to talk about the stickers in Majisto.

Lego Icons 10332 Medieval Town Square Discussion Thread
Alexandrina replied to BrickJagger's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I figure they'll always be going for a mixture of old and new prints. Sure, while there are prints in rotation they'll reuse some of them but for big money sets like this I think they're well aware of the expectation of having at least some new prints. (Not with GWPs, for the most part). I just hope for a civilian set they prioritise new civilian prints over a new knights faction. -
Apologies! I will focus on the Lego alone going forward

True - though I don't think anyone here would say no to Lego making VIP packs with bigger bags, especially since it would mean that larger animals could be included in VIP packs too.

If you're talking about a correlation between culture and culture wars then that is inherent, as culture wars use culture as their ammunition. That doesn't mean they're one and the same, and acting like people think toys don't have anything to do with culture - in this thread - is absurd. If that's not what you mean then you'll have to be more specific, because your message isn't coming across. In any case, the culture war here isn't Lego putting a female minifigure in a set in keeping with their practices of equal representation; it's people ragging on them for daring to represent women.

Where has anyone in this thread said that toys have nothing to do with culture? People are making the distinction between culture (which encompasses music, folklore, television and yes, toys) and culture wars (which is essentially cultural elements turned into political weapons).

I agree with you, the Romans in particular are a missed opportunity - especially since so many of the necessary parts exist/have existed in Lego form already. A theme based on the topic would I think be very popular and lead to plenty of sales from people army-building centurions. (And from me hoarding stolae torsos from PAB)

I'd much rather see animals and vegetation than space helmets! Give me trees and brightly coloured leaves (cypress tree my beloved, come back to me!)

The set is - like every other Castle set - existing in the fantasy genre, which as I said before is inspired by medieval aesthetics but has its own genre trappings and rules and is not beholden to stringent standards of historical accuracy. In any case, you were the one who brought medieval folklore into the discussion, so I was just providing some examples of folklore which I happen to know do speak to women in "knightly" roles. Oddly, it seems that most people's issues with the set are the build, the parts used or the Majisto minifigure, with minor emphasis on the new Dragon Knight torso - rather than the "PC" boogeyman. I didn't even realise there were that many clones with lines. There's the one on Kashyyk who Yoda kills, and the one who falls off the gunship in Episode 2 - when else are they speaking? The presence of a woman in a plastic toy is not "culture war" (also, since when have swear words not been automatically censored? Have I just been working off faulty assumptions of how the forum software operates for years?) You mean all the people who are up in arms because Lego has had the audacity to include a female minifigure in their fantasy-based plastic toy for children?

Oh fantastic! I'm not really that au fait with Monkie Kid so I hadn't heard that news.
-
Is it definitely a new colour and not just dodgy lighting? I'm all in on new colours to the range so I don't want to get my hopes up!
-
I'll be continuing my hopeless optimism too - especially since the VIP packs don't seem to be all that frequent, so it's possible that there just isn't one planned for the first few months of 2024.
