MOD: Pullman "Emerald Belle" Observation Car 10194

Thanks LT, I'm really glad you like it. I can assure you that the sticker is one thing that will be improved in the final version no matter what I do with the rest of it. 8-) :classic: -
Hi LT, shot number 3 is definitely the one to go with. By far the best composition, nice angle showing the shop and the ute and you can see the welcoming minifigure and the 60 sign rather than having one obscured by the other. :classic:

MOD: Pullman "Emerald Belle" Observation Car 10194
AussieJimbo replied to AussieJimbo's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Cheers roamingstudio, that's very generous of you. I've taken some time out to actually play with my trains today so I haven't made any updates. I do however have a nice new layout with a dual track main so I can get a couple of trains running nicely together. :classic: -
MOD: Pullman "Emerald Belle" Observation Car 10194
AussieJimbo replied to AussieJimbo's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Thanks mate. I thought you we're about to give me a serve when I started reading. *laugh* The original car is a bit of disappointment considering it's part of the Pullman series. You'd think they'd have come up with a more interesting design but it guess it is about opening the car up as much as possible. I still think it needs something added but I'm a bit stuck for what to do next. One thing I would like to do is extend the dark brown bottom layer around to unify it a little. I would actually do that with 1x4x3 transparent panels if I had them but the windscreens are the only parts I've got to cover than amount of area transparently. I've got plenty of smokey transparent 1x4x3s but it wouldn't look right. As it is the reference model does have 3 window sections (with the 3 smaller panes above) which sort of matches having 3 panels so I can live with the little indentation. Glad you like the design, I hope to show you an improved one soon. I might also try the roof profile from the RC cargo train and see how that looks. If anyone's seen some better looking single deck observation cars please post a pic or link. :classic: -
Very nice job, cimddwc. You've picked up the details on the real-life train really well. :classic:

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 3 discussion
AussieJimbo replied to Klaus-Dieter's topic in Special LEGO Themes
From my experience some bumps were almost impossible to see but the cheat sheet was correct when you could make out the bumps. I've been labelling the packs as I open then so I'll go back in a bit and review the codes. Completed my set with a Tennis Player today, it's one of the easier codes, I thought I'd picked it up on my first buy but it must have got lost in the sorting. I've got a few dupes but my interest was in getting a set. I don't really approve of wholesale ransacking to pull out excessive copies of a particular figure because we seem to get such limited supplies here and others deserve a chance. :classic: Isn't it cool. I laughed when I saw it was a guy sweating in a suit. :classic: -

Picked up the Tennis Player I needed at Target Tuggeranong. Looked in Myer, amazingly they have put the modular fire station back up to $299, obviously don't want to move them yet. They had one Imperial Flagship if someone was looking for one. Nothing on sale (that I noticed) at Myer, Target or K-Mart. Myer have a "30% off selected toys, prices as marked", they may have had some Lego marked but I didn't look very hard. :classic: -
If you were presenting a short LEGO segment on TV you might need to use the phrase "Here's something I legoed earlier". :classic:

Cheers roamingstudio. Make sure you check out CCOOK's thread, he has some awesome carriages. :classic: -
I agree. *laugh* Honestly, I didn't see your post until just now. :classic:

Truly superb. I am in awe of your highly detailed models. :classic:

I've always been interested in the possible variations of the Emerald Night coach. Having been lucky enough to pick up a few extra sets on special I've had the chance to have a bit of a play. I was going to start on the various coach classes but the excellent work by CCOOK with his Ultimate Emerald Night has covered that very well already. One thing I did want to do was a British style single-deck observation car. I thought I'd better get in before Mr CCOOK did every conceivable car, even though my effort could still do with a few tweaks. The Emerald Night coaches are of course based on Pullman coaches so I looked at some of the models on the Hornby website for reference. My design is based on the Pullman "Devon Belle" observation car. http://www.hornby.com/passenger-rolling-stock/r4437/product.html The challenging area is the rear of the car which, as you can see from the reference picture, is pretty bland in real life. I think it needs some extra details that aren't there in reality to finish it up. I'd value any suggestions. Here's what I've come up with so far. Please forgive the quick photos, it's pretty late over here. This MOD includes my first ever custom sticker! (bit of post-it-note scrawled on with texta) Click images for larger versions. I look forward to your feedback. :classic:

A vital addition to any town's emergency services. Fantastic details and accessories. Well done. :classic:

Thanks Brickdoctor. Looking back in the thread I noticed someone's even been able to sticker a model in one of those bags with the little holes in it. I'm not sure how they did it but I thought of a method that might work. I was thinking that you could wrap the sticker around a needle, like a roll of sticky tape, stick it through one of those little hole then unroll it in place. No way to do it with a sealed bag though. :classic:

Great stuff, CCOOK. I like how you've done the 2nd and 3rd class carriages, cramming in progressively more passengers as they do. Baggage car is cool too. The double deck observation cars and nice red caboose lend a North American feel to what I've always seen as a British train. Perhaps it's a Canadian Pacific service. :classic:

Oh well, I ended up one short, missing out on the tennis player. Not a bad result, picked up the elf and the snowboard as my 3rd and 2nd last when I was down to 3 out of 3 to complete the set. I should add that a sales lady at Target helped me find a couple of figures with the bump code sheet I had rather than showing any concern and let me take one of the empty display boxes which was nice. Has anyone seen the minifigs at Kmart or TRU yet? :classic: -
Nice one. You've achieved a lot of detail in a little space to create a convincing container ship. It would also be excellent for false perspective on a seascape with that maersk ship you mentioned and maybe some even smaller scale ships in the background. Top job. :classic:

Target Canberra Centre has about 4 boxes series 3 minifigs left. I saw new SW sets but was concentrating on picking up the minifigs so I didn't really check the rest of the shelf out. I was having a chat with a Mum and Dad while I was there, they would have bought their kids some minfigs but thought $4.90 was too much. And they are right. I'm a sucker. Fingers crossed I managed to pick up a full set but I'm doubtful. The new dot codes are a PITA. :classic: -
In my view, calling 7Up, Fanta, Mountain Dew or any other non-alcoholic carbonated beverage or soft drink a "Coke" is as wrong as calling Megablocks LEGO. "Coke" is a registered trademark which is part of the Coca-Cola brand. :classic:

Review: Lego Minifig identifier

Don't have an Android phone but that looks pretty useful. :classic: -
Thanks mate, I'm glad you like it. I guess I probably have crossed the line from MOD to MOC now, still trying to learn the rules around here. I believe the limit on the public road (within the boundary where road trains are allowable) is four trailers (variations of H above, I'm not sure if they have to include a B-Double in the train or not). The longer one I mentioned earlier, with an additional powerplant mid-way along (somewhat similar to K but not exactly), has 6 trailers and runs on a private mining road. I'll see if I can track down a video of it on Youtube. :classic:
