  1. Personally I don't think it's boring. It's interesting to see how people are able to create the sphere shape of BB-8 in Lego.
  2. Great job! How big do you think your BB-8 is compared to HenrikLego's version? http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=116949
  3. I have to say that this looks pretty damn GOOD in my opinion. Would definitely buy it if it was an actual product.

  5. Yeah, I wasn't expecting my topic to generate much controversy. I just wanted to share a simple solution to anyone who may find it useful. Definitely hoped this thread could have kept more positive. But anyway, IMO the issue isn't really the "gap". I think it's common and perfectly acceptable to have some gaps present here and there in Lego sets. What worried me was just the possibility for the UCS Slave 1's front end to noticeably droop or bend out of shape over time, or that the supporting technic liftarms might be permanently deformed if kept under stress over an extended period. But like I said in an earlier post, I haven't really experienced this yet since my Slave 1 is only a few months old. I'm basing this assumption mostly on Anio's picture and some other user comments. But nevertheless, I wanted to reinforce the structure just a little bit more to help with the weight and give me peace of mind. The UCS Slave 1 is undoubtedly a very nice set. It's the one that convinced me to buy Lego sets again after 20+ years after all.
  6. Glad you found it helpful! And the pin you used is a good idea too; really should make it a lot easier to place it in. I didn't have a spare one of those so I just made do with the 2-long technic pin hehe. Thanks for sharing that great alternative :)
  7. Oh, are you the designer for UCS Slave 1? Wow this is so awesome! I read your interview on the manual + watched your designer video on youtube. You seem like a great guy! Anyway, I find it really fantastic that you would take the time to visit this forum This is really good to know and was the reassurance I wanted to hear before I tried making my mod. But I think it's just fine that I did anyway since it does help in making the front section pretty rock solid with minimal effort/parts. Can you let me know what you find? I would very much like to hear what you think about the mod I did. I'm not good at doing these things so I won't be able to tell if it is 100% in-system or too complicated. I'm just a new AFOL and I only started buying LEGO again just 3 months ago after a dark age of 25+ years. In fact, your UCS Slave 1 was the Lego set that brought me out of the dark ages. Thanks for reading and I hope to hear from you again!
  8. Thank you everyone for the kind words. To be honest, my Slave 1 isn't that old yet (less than 3 months) and so I haven't actually seen it droop as much as the one in Anio's picture. But I did notice that the gap would widen when I changed the position from a horizontal to a vertical stance, which made me think that the technic structure needed more reinforcement. Hence I did the mod. At least now, my mind can rest at ease leaving it on the stand for an indefinite amount of time. The thing I like about my mod is that: it's very discreet (almost unnoticeable from the outside) only needs very minimal disassembly only uses 10 additional parts in total, most of which are common spare parts In other words, there's no real harm or effort to get it done.
  9. These MOCs might actually cause me to break my "no prequel stuff" rule when and if they're made available. Excellent work and looking forward to more pics!
  10. Hi. I read about an issue with the UCS Slave 1 where the front section may eventually droop with time after being placed on the stand. See topic below for reference with a picture: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=115020entry2340804 Since I'm not a fan of the look of the Slave 1 lying on the ground, I decided to come up with the simplest solution I could think of. Here's what I used: You'll need 2 of each of the parts in the picture. For the blue technic pin, you can substitute another black one instead if you want. The next step is to pull off the side panels and look for the set of parts encircled in red and remove them. After which, you will need to build this part using the two 1x2 plates from earlier, while reusing the parts you just removed (minus the 2x3 tan plates) Place this new set of parts onto the same area as before like so: Next up is to place the actual pieces that will help support the weight of the front section. Begin by placing the technic pins as follows (on both sides): This next part is a little tricky if you don't do some partial disassembly (I didn't), but set the technic liftarm onto the pins on both sides. All that's left now is to put it all back together and you're done! The front part should be pretty rock solid now regardless of the Slave 1's orientation and shouldn't bend/sag/droop anymore. Hopefully this will stand the test of time. You can see in the pic below that the gap is very minimal now. Hope you will find this helpful or informative. Thanks for reading!
  11. I would refer you to this thread. http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=116115
  12. This is excellent! You've practically nailed the look of the cockpit IMO (or as close as it can get with the available parts). I would really like to follow your cockpit build for my own Tydirium, so if you're willing to share the instructions or build process I'll be very thrilled. While I do not have the UCS version, I feel like with all the different mods shared in this forum, one can make the Tydirium actually look better than the UCS. It'll be at a more manageable size and still have play features too.
  13. Great! That pic helped a lot!
  14. I like how you did your wings. Would you be able to share the breakdown (like what you did for the cockpit)? Thanks!
  15. Was it a simple process to add the inner spokes? That's the main reason that's holding me back from getting this.
  16. I did a few more slight modifications to the set: Increased size of the TIE fighters Rearranged the positioning of the docking bays to be closer together Added some slopes to the underside (not screen accurate) I think these help reduce the appearance of the TIE fighters looking like wheels. Although now it does remind me more of a fish haha. But at least it's better than a bus IMO. All of the playable functions are still intact (like the TIE deployment feature). Of course, these are again just a few simple/slight changes with a minimum of parts swapping/rearrangement. I'm not out to do a complete remodel of the set.
  17. Yeah, understood. No offense taken. Again I'm not good at doing mods, and I have no skill for MOCs. This personal effort was only to modify the Carrier's cockpit just enough with minimal parts/revisions to get rid of the default windshield (which I agree makes it look like a bus) and make it look like a bigger ship. Though I'm not seeing how my mod makes it look even more like a bus than it did out of the box. As for the TIEs looking like wheels, I haven't changed that from the default set's design.
  18. Here is another simple mod for those that find the thrusters on the 75055 too small. I basically used the same configuration as those found on the UCS Slave 1. Before: After: And while not a mod, I attached my 75011 Tantive IV to my ISD. I know it's not exactly in scale, but I wanted to have something to somewhat emphasize the size of the ISD. If someone can MOC a Tantive IV that's better scaled with the ISD, maybe you can share it with me? :)
  19. Thanks for the feedback! Yeah, I tried making it 2 plates tall at first, but it didn't look quite right because it didn't blend in well with the curve of the nose. You might also notice that I moved the tip of the nose up one stud in my mod compared to the default build, making the slope much more coherent, but only leaving enough space for a 1 plate tall windscreen. If I made it 2 plates tall, the top of the nose would cover part of it. Of course if you have a technique you can share to make it 2 plates tall and still have a smooth curve at the nose, please let me know :)
  20. Hi. Despite some of the negative reviews I've read on the Imperial Assault Carrier, I thought it was pretty neat. I didn't share most of the criticisms on the price, size, or scale that people had, but instead found the play features pretty nifty and worth a purchase. But one thing did bug me though, it was the front cockpit windshield. Out of box shot (Before modification) The windshield was too large and made the Carrier seem a lot smaller in scale than I thought it should be. I've always wanted to modify it to look more intimidating and more representative of the ship's scale. But I'm not very good at MOCs or modding, and I also have a VERY limited set of parts and parts knowledge. I would sometimes see some AMAZING MOCs of the Carrier on this forum, but would have no idea how to replicate it. So this is the best I could come up with. After modifications (I forgot to replace the 2x2 plate on top) I know it's not very good, but at least it doesn't require many parts, very minimal modification and still retains the opening cockpit functionality. Plus I think the Carrier looks a lot more awesome now (at least for me hehe). However, it's not that accurate to the CG model and I'm sure that many people on this board can come up with a much better solution to what I did. If so, can you share some tips on how to mod the front cockpit of the Carrier so it's more screen accurate? Preferably one that won't require a massive overhaul or parts count? Thanks in advance!
  21. Awesome! I think I have a better idea now. Thanks!
  22. Thanks. Yeah, I took a look at that link earlier but it didn't have the view from behind and I'm not that well-versed in all the SNOT building techniques that were used to create these. Anyway, hopefully Luc won't mind sharing the instructions so people like me with no skill in designing Lego can have copies of his wonderful creations. Thanks!
  23. Are you willing to share the instructions on these? I would like to have my own too :)
  24. Hi. Is there a chance that someone can help explain in more detail how to modify Poe's X-Wing in order to implement this wing mechanism? Like many others, I'm not a fan of the rubber band system and want to use an alternative. But I'm not an experienced modder and it seems that there's more involved to the process of actually replacing the existing parts in order to fit this into the X-Wing. For example, what parts need to me removed and where do these parts go?
  25. Well, all I can say is don't knock it till you've tried it. You might be surprised at how much horizontal force this thing can take and still hold together. Based on my own stress testing, the shuttle has a higher chance of falling off the top platform first (since I don't use any stud attachments) before the column even starts to show signs of collapsing from side to side shaking. I can even make a video to demonstrate this. But again, this is just how I've displayed my shuttle. Never said it was the best solution nor is it for everyone. Just that it works sufficiently enough to meet my own comfort levels.
