  1. To be verified but I think every single series had a shot of only 9 figs displayed on the bag. And I agree that the more the merrier and the best chance for anyone to find a favorite :)
  2. Oh my!!! That boxer is just like I had pictured him to be. Thank you so much LEGO! The british guard was one of my request too, so this makes me doubly happy. I have a feeling the dwarf will be highly sought after as he will the perfect companion for the series 3 elf. As will the gladiator!! Too bad we don't see more of the cave woman but I love the idea of releasing female counter parts to previously released male figs. Keep it going! Is the egyptian women a snake charmer? The only fig that seems kind of boring to me is the sherlock homes guy... but I know I'll probably get him anyway as I've been getting them all since series 1, why stop now :D The background seems to confirmed purple bags for series 5!
  3. In case of the fisherman, I've actually seen this as TLG give me a choice, given that the beard accessory locks the fig's head in place, it's nice to be able to remove and still have nice looking head :)
  4. Sorry about that, I hadn't seen there were guidelines when I posted my first reply. To be honest I only clearly had in mind 4 females (marching band, basketball player, fairy mermaid) out of the 16 suggestions (but 2, the grim reaper and the little gey alien are kind of genderless). I think we got 2 females out of 16 minifigs in series one, and 3/16 in following series (including series 4). So I did a little better than TLG in my suggestions but not that much, apparently I'm still pretty biased too... No matter my suggestions, I'm totally with you for more females minifigs! That said, I wanted to point out that even though I've been a little bit disappointed by the new community minifigs set for other reasons, I think we can command lego for reaching gender parity on that one (including a police woman and a fire woman). It's really a step in the good direction, especially compared to the previous community workers set which had like 4 females out of 30 minifigs... The fact that this new one is released as part of the LEGO Education brand might have helped. (The 9349 Fairytale and Historic Minifigures set doesn't do as well with 8 females versus 12 males). Hopefully we'll see a rise in female minifigs with series 5, and personally I wouldn't mind getting repeats as long as the gender of the figure is different (For example: female surfer in series 4 => yay, male skateboarder in series 4 -even if better than the original one- => nay)
  5. Hi, I'm new to LDD and I was trying to build the cafe corner alternate model according to Jamie Berard's Brickshelf gallery (http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=272793) I used to LDD LU mode to have access to has much bricks as possible since it seems some were not available in the regular mode anymore. The model has some window and and door have some fancy brick work built using a SNOT technique, I managed to build the decoration them but I cannot figure out how to make fit in the rest of the model. Thanks in advance for your help. Here is the url to my LDD build: http://www.elzz.org/lego-models/CafeConer-Alt.lxf
  6. I slightly disagree, thankfully we got a few "everyday people" as part of the collectors minifigures, nothing as comprehensive as the suggestion made here, but: - Series 1: nurse, diver, cheerleader, skateboarder (and I guess clown, magician and mexican wrestler) - Series 2: cop, surfer, lifeguard, popstar, disco dude (and I guess karate master, weight lifter, ring master, mime and skier) - Series 3: tennis player, rapper, fisherman, baseball player, race car driver (and I guess gorilla suit guy, sumo wrestler, snowboarder) - Series 4: artist, punk rocker, skater, surfer girl, hockey player, soccer player, navy guy (and I guess hazmat suit guy and ice skater) That's almost 22 that can be use in almost any town and about a dozen more that can be useful if your town has a circus, dojo or ski resort nearby... Granted the disadvantage is that a number of those civilians are actually sports player (so they often need a team, an opposite team and a playing field...) but still it's better than yet another construction worker :P And since we already know there will be a series 5, hopefully we'll get a few more civilians in it! On another topic I agree that an animal specific set would be pretty awesome.
  7. Oops. not what I meant. I think kids do like history, especially ancient civilizations probably, I just meant that to be appealling to most kids, and as you pointed out avoid depicting violence, it would probably be best to focus the theme on a slightly caricaturized history rather than purely accurate one.
  8. I doubt we will see anywhere near this level of historical accuracy and completedness from Lego, mainly because since it is a kids toys it has to appeal to kids first. Like you I found the pharaoh's quest (and atlantis) theme disappointing because a too much on the fantasy side, but they do provide nice new brick which is really all we need to let our imagination run wild no matter the original building instructions. Maybe an Asterix (http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki?search=Asterix) like theme could be a good middleground both appealling enough for kids and interesting enough for more historically minded afols.
  9. I finally completed my series 3 after stumbling onto an unopened box at my local (hillsdale, in san francisco peninsula) Lego store on Monday. I was only missing a hula girl and a samurai and I have to say that even with an unopened box I had a really hard time spotting the samurai, for some reason the bumps code for this fig was unidentifiable (where as for some figs like the tennis player, snowboarder, mummy and others I found the bumps consistently easy to read). I thus isolated a couple of bags where the bumps didn't seem to match any pattern on the cheat sheet and started trying to feel through the bag. I was looking for the sword but it was not that easy to feel either as it is somewhat bendable (where as the indian chief spear is rigid and thus really easy to identify when feeling through a bag). In the end I resorted to try identifying the helmet. The Lego store staff is really cool about having people coming in with the cheatsheets (I've seen fellow collectors go through the box after me) and feeling through bags for awhile. They told me that they have been receiving a couple of box of the series 3 every week and they put them out on Mondays, so it's better to visit early in the week rather than on week ends (Monday is also more quiet customer wise so I had the opportunity to go through the whole box without anyone else picking out bags from it ;) Good luck everyone hunting for your figs! And now to wait 4 Months 'til series 4 is out...
  10. Understood! The thing is these sets are part of the "Lego Education" brand which sets are intended toward a specific learning area. My disappointment with the current set is that it is actually mostly re-packaging minifigs that are available in other sets (for example: fireman, police and nurse are in the "Rescue Services Set") I think this is on purpose from Lego so that educators with limited resources can still have access to those figs. Note that the suggestions I made previously were taking into account that these are education sets and that's why I was focusing mainly on different the different "careers" not yet available that I think could be interesting teaching about (and I'm sure I forgot plenty ;).
  11. If you want to known what minifigures people want would could check this topic: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=41564 Collectible minifigures allow for a little bit more eccentricity than the education sets I guess but I think there's definitely some overlap between the 2 topics. That said, to answers your question I would like to see a education set that offers a little bit more variety in potential careers than the usual postman, garbageman, policeman, fireman, construction worker etc... For example, I think a set could include the following: - a teacher (with book and chalkboard) and pupil (with desk) - a reporter (with microphone) and his/her cameraman/woman - a judge (with robe, wig and gavel) and court reporter (with 'typewriter') - a scientist and his/her assistant (lab coats) around microscope and computer - a store clerk (in apron/uniform) with a customer around a groceries conveyor belt and cash register - a paper boy with blue bike and newspaper stack - an architect with architect desk and blueprints - a veterinarian (similar outfit to a doc but a different logo) with a dog crate, dog and cat. - a couple of hikers, each with different colors backpack, wearing shorts, one could have camera the other a walking stick - new parents (regular minifig folks) with a microfig as baby and maybe a stroller I know it's not quite 22 but it's a start (Note: I am not suggesting any new pieces, conveyor belt, microscope, chalkboard etc would be brick built)
  12. I like the old-school movie theater. Like others have said I agree a greek revival style building using the new roman-column would be pretty awesome (ala NYSE), it could be a bank, library, museum, courthouse, stock exchange, whatever. It would also be nice for the "modular town" to have some kind of office building, it could be the offices of the town newspaper. I see it as a corner building, with a "clock-tower" on top like the san francisco's chronicle building. Anyway as long as the modular sets line keeps going I'm pretty sure I'll happy with whatever they come up with
  13. Gender: M Occupation: Headless horseman Type of headgear: A pumpkin 'helmet' with holes for the eyes and mouth (similar to the gorilla suit guy) Ideally the pumpkin would have stud on top to allow for a hat. Type of facial expression: N/A Color on torso/legs: black Alternatively the fig could be a scarecrow, I just really want that pumpkin helmet. I can already see it with a LED inside for halloween displays
  14. Indeed Looks like there's still some boxes of those available online but damned are they expensive now $$$ $$$ I guess I'm not the only one who missed that opportunity and his now trying to catch up :) Thanks for the clarification and link to the pictures, this is great! I really love that set
  15. Thanks a lot for the quick answer! Now all that's left for me is to start saving!!!
  16. I recently came out of my dark ages and I am still going through the process of catching up :) I was especially blown away when I discovered the beautiful modular building sets that lego has been releasing over the past few years!!! However when looking at the "more views" of the cafe corner I stumble onto a picture that doesn't seem to belong there and for which I cannot find a product page... I'm sorry if this has already been posted/asked but do you guys know anything about it? Is it an alternate build? The color palette doesn't seem to match... Thanks in advance!
  17. I was lucky to strike a fisherman on my first set of bags, but the more I look at him the more I am disappointed by that fig The head, hat, beard, fish rod and fish are great, but the body has one big flaw: the orange of the torso doesn't match the orange of the legs It's like the blue of the torso's plastic shines through the orange printing... :(
  18. Brickcitydepot: 2pt Dix: 2pt Stratorion: 1pt
  19. Personnally I would love to see a "farmer's market" or "fruit stand" set for the farmer to sell his produce. It would kind of tie in the farm sub-theme with the rest of the city theme. It could include a pick up or flatbed truck (ideally with an old school design), some fruit crates and the stand itself with both the farmer and farmer's wife as minifigs. Otherwise it seems the farm theme will at least survive In spirit as the "UFO invasion" set of the new "alien conquest" theme: http://m.flickr.com/photos/57393885@N03/5297269826/in/set-72157625558833671/
  20. Since we've got the "wicked witch of the west" in series 2 I've been longing for these 4 as well!!! I mean the "yellow brick" road if that's not a call to play some Legos, what is? The scarecrow from the batman theme is way too mean looking for a Wizard of Oz MOC so a new one would be great indeed (although yours is missing a hat, and a pitch fork might be a more appropriate than a broom), for the lion I could be satisfied with a tail printed on the torsos back but the head has to awesome!
  21. Plus, I mean, a clown, a ring master, a strong man, a magician, I think the got us covered on the circus category :) Not to mention we got a juggler in lego kingdom this year. And as far as I'm concerned the announced series 4 figure skater could easily be repurposed as a trapeze artist.
  22. At my Borders Book store the figs are out of their boxes on hangers behind the registers, if you want one you need to ask the cashier to hand it to you. I haven't done all the borders store of the area but the few I've visited were set up like that so I assumed it was like that everywhere but maybe some of their locations are set up differently...
  23. Or they put them behind the register where you neither can check barcodes/dots nor feel through the bags. That's what they do at my Borders and I can tell you that even though my local TRUs are aleady out of the series 3, there are boatload of series 2 still available at most of the Borders around me. (local for me is the san francisco bay area peninsula) Personnally I kind of like to know these various distribution mode coexists as it gives a chance to both collectors and casual buyers to get access to these figs. My main complaint is that Borders still charges a premium on the figs rather than the MSRP. I'm willing to pay the premium at TRU since I can pick and choose but paying a premium and still play the chance game, no way!!
  24. A baby minifig would be pretty cool too with bonnet, bib, diaper and bottle or rattle. Gender: Female or Male Occupation/print on torso: Baby/Bib Type of headgear: baby bonnet Type of facial expression: sleepy Color on torso/legs: diaper Accessory: bottle and/or rattle It could either be made at the microfig scale that are used as token in LEGO board games or as an adult in baby costume if the small body does not work realistically enough...
  25. Wrestler/Fighter category: - "boxer" with gloves that fits akin to the cheerleader's pom poms. Music category: - "jazzman" with a saxophone and fedora. - "marching band" with a snare or bass drum, this could be an army builder for anyone wanting a college marching band/fanfare/military parade/etc... (especially the snare drum I guess) Monster category: - "creature of the black lagon" a completly printed minifig with scales all around (ala mummy in S3), i think this is the last of the classic horror monster missing - "grim reaper" with a really cool hoodie cape and an updated skull head (maybe just a very detail skull print on a black head piece so it could be reuse in a dia de los muertos MOC) maybe a little bit too dark for TLG brand though... Warriors category: - "conquistador" a great opportunity for an update on the original helmet and torso from the pirate theme. Team sports category: - "basketball player" to stay both in the olympic sports and the retired lego theme revival. A nice twist on the original theme would be a woman player. - "rugby player" with polo torso and hopefully a ball that could be combined with S3 hockey guy for an american football fig. Girly category: - "fairy" same pointy ears as the elf and wolfman but within a more girly haircut, wings and a wand. - "mermaid" (after all the little mermaid is in copenhagen) accessory could be a small crab. City category: - "geek" with pens in the shirt pocket, freckles, glasses and a laptop. - "chopper biker" zz-top beard, leather pants & tattoos and a black recolor of the toystory army man helmet Space category: - "little grey man" an x-files style alien rather than the space-police style one from S3. I wouldn't mind it being a costume as the gorilla ended up being. Historical category: - "colonial men" with a white hair colonial wig that would work wonders in the pirate theme and any renaissance MOC. Just for the Fun category: - "british royal guard" for the hat! - "leprechaun" small legs figs with a red hair beard and a pipe accessory.
