Yep! Right after I posted I saw the post on Lava Land and it's obvious now. In that image of the 4 levels, the top-left one seems to show the castle raised up and maybe the main staircase? It's definitely more raised than the other image of Peach's castle. So maybe there's at least a hint of an interior?
-
It looks like the top flips and one of the sides of the block moves out to get the diorama scenes out of the block's interior, and then they can fold out to sit on top of the block. And the flap on the opposite side of the block must open down so you can look inside and see an underground level? From squinting, it sure looks like we're getting: Mario, Peach, and Yoshi brick-built micro figures Peach's Castle with castle interiors (?) Bob-Omb Battlefield with King Bob-Omb Cool Cool Mountain with brick-built micro Penguins So, if that flap is an underground world, maybe it's a scene from Hazy Maze Cave?

This LEGO Super Mario line is never predictable! But, thinking about it now, it does seem obvious that LEGO would want to make a Mario block. I think I need to see the full set before deciding, but I hope it's more impressive than just the ? block because it's so easy to buy that as a display piece elsewhere. (I felt the same way about the NES set. It was cool on its own, but the TV and side-scrolling image was the extra LEGO thing that made it worth buying.) I hope it looks good when displayed open. Whatever "open" looks like.

Disney Properties 2021 - Rumors & Discussion
nicknack116 replied to Captain Nemo's topic in LEGO Licensed
Technically the Home Alone house is a Disney set now. Disney owns Fox and the Home Alone movies are all on Disney+. The other thing is that Disney World's 50th anniversary celebration starts October 1st. And if it's a microscale of that castle, which is what the rumors seem to be, then maybe it'll be branded with the 50th logo? And maybe they'll have some promotion to get the set with X dollar amount of Disney-brand sets purchased? -
I wonder if it was hit with production delays? There was a VIP Mario promotion on the LEGO Store calendar that was removed in an update, and I wondered if that had something to do with needing to delay things for this set's release? Or, maybe October had a gap in a D2C set and so Princess Peach's castle fit in best there? Just glad to finally have some more info.

Good point! If that movie is still coming out next year (we've heard so little about it!) I could see that being the way we get minifigure sets, too. In which case, it makes sense that you wouldn't want two versions of some locations on the shelf for two different versions of their Mario lines. But I'm probably just getting my hopes up too high! That is also a great idea for bringing Bowser back in the digi-figure Mario line. Love it!
-
Oh definitely! I completely agree, and LEGO is just making SO many sets these days. I just think it's interesting that the stuff that will be on shelves won't be as iconic to Mario as Wave 1, so I'm curious what's coming up. This is also just a weird line of LEGO sets because all the characters are brick-built. It's not like they can throw a Bowser minifig into another set, y'know? For instance: does LEGO change up the build to make it more interesting for people who already have Bowser? It'll be interesting to see how this line evolves how that sets are retiring.
-
Saw that StoneWars reported a list of sets that are likely to be retired after this year. LEGO Mario seems to be hit hard? Unless they're mistaken, LEGO is retiring almost all of last year's sets and the early 2021 sets. The Mario Starter Course will stay on shelves, and they didn't mention Mario's House as a retiring set. Of course, the new wave from August is sticking around. But I'm a little surprised. If those Wave 1 sets are retiring, that means there won't be a way to get characters like Bowser/Toad/Toadette. Some of the classic Mario costumes will be gone. And some of the more iconic locations (like the end-level caste in guarded fortress) will go away while the less-iconic Luigi wave is on shelves. It makes me wonder what they're working on for next year and whether they'll start changing up the theme? Right now all of the sets have a more side-scrolling/classic Mario feel. But I'd love to see them branch out and start making stuff based on Mario's 3D games (N64, Sunshine, Galaxy, Odyssey). Hopefully there will be a cheaper way to get Bowser, cause my kids never saved up for that big set.

Just saw a post on Instagram that if you spot a Lakitu in a display case at LEGO Stores and tell employees, they'll let you hit Mario's question block and win prizes. The person who posted it got a gold coin with LEGO Mario on it. There were pictures of the coin and the packaging it came in saying, "Team up and play challenge" Wanted to see if anyone knew more about that?

Licensed Lego Ideas - Support & Discussion
nicknack116 replied to Captain Nemo's topic in LEGO Licensed
I saw the same thing with their Kickstarter and my mind jumped to the same place: "What is LEGO doing not reviving that license for an Ideas set?" I have to think it's on LEGO's part, because Last Airbender and Korra merchandise is also starting to take off in the last year or two. Tons more apparel, collectibles, and decent action figure lines. So, the licensing team for Last Airbender isn't afraid to make toys right now. I'm guessing LEGO feels burned by their initial "wave" of Last Airbender sets when the show was first on the air and they're too afraid to try again. Which is a shame, because the fandom around Last Airbender is so dramatically different than when the show first came out. All those kids who watched it are now firmly in that 18+/Adults Welcome group that LEGO is courting hard right now. It just seems like such a no-brainer to me. -
I feel the same way! This is my most-anticipated set, and I just want it leaked ASAP. That's all I ask! Excellent advice!! I think when it comes to Nintendo (who is notoriously sensitive about leaks and is rumored to have ended projects over the wrong type of leak) it's probably wise to not assume anything until official announcements are made. I think the good news is that we know a $170 set exists in the Mario theme, we have its set number, and that leaked with all the other set numbers that have now been released as actual sets. So, I think it's safe to say a $170 will release. But what it is remains the mystery... Did I get anything wrong in that info?

Disney Properties 2021 - Rumors & Discussion

110% agreed! I would love to see them translate those homes into sets. Especially because it would lead to some fun building techniques. Disneyland's Toontown is famous for its crooked angles, curves, and round designs (rather than LEGO-friendly right angles). -
That's a good point! Those original Minecraft sets could be a good reference point for this. It would also explain why leaks have been so hard to come by if they're not making too many unique pieces or only printing small pieces that wouldn't necessarily be recognized as Mario-themed on their own?
-
No worries! It's a weird phrase. I'm sure someone can "well, actually..." my response, but I'll give it a go... Basically, we're referring to the way Mario looks in the original games on the NES (8-bit) and then on the SNES (16-bit). So, the little Mario that is "onscreen" in the LEGO Nintendo Entertainment System and TV set is a sprite (as are the goombas, mushrooms, etc.). We're just wondering if LEGO could introduce new Mario-specific, pixel figures. Basically, more of these figures like the one in this picture, but for Mario, Luigi, Peach, Bowser, etc. to be 2D characters in a 3D Princess Peach Lego set.
-
Princess Peach's castle is also pretty fluid. While the N64 one is most memorable because you play inside it the whole game, it's also been represented in drastically different styles across other 2D, 3D, and side games (like Paper Mario). It's always got a different geography around it. So, I think the LEGO version will be a mish-mash of different versions to be its own thing. Rather than seeing just the N64 one represented. I'd guess that Princess Peach's castle will be the main attraction, but my dream would be a more fleshed-out diorama with Mushroom Kingdom locales around it: a suspended Bowser's airship? A small Bowser castle? A small checkpoint castle? Hills with eyes on them? Toad Town? Maybe even segments around the castle's moat of desert, grasslands, lava, water, or a spooky section? Anyway, I'm rambling :) but I'm excited that the reveal is becoming more real. I'm guessing it'll be a day one purchase for me. I LOVE this idea even more than minifigs. If they found a way to create 'sprites' that integrate into the LEGO system, that would be so cool and unique.

Disney Properties 2021 - Rumors & Discussion

I think we’ve got enough potential for a series 3. I just thought of another… We’ve also had how many potential Gravity Falls/Mystery Shack sets on LEGO Ideas? While I could understand Disney and LEGO being hesitant to make that a set, I could see Dipper and Mable making it into a series 3, too. -

Really? I could easily see a third series happening. And they still have a ton of characters to draw from, both extremely popular and ones to draw in the diehard Disney fans: Pinocchio and Gepetto Baloo and Mowgli Sully and Mike Nick Wilde and Judy Hopps Miguel from Coco Wreck-It Ralph and Vanellope Rapunzel and Flynn Rider Carl and Russell from Up Lilo Kuzco and Pacha Mulan in her warrior armor Quasimodo and Frollo Belle and the Beast Roger Rabbit Robin Hood and Prince John Mary Poppins and Bert Cruella De Vil Merlin Aurora and Prince Phillip Cinderella and the Fairy Godmother Snow White and Dopey Alternate versions of Mickey and Friends (Sorcerer Mickey? Mickey and the Beanstalk?) Baymax Not to mention that we got Scrooge and his nephews, so maybe some classic TV shows are a possibility? I'd love to see: Darkwing Duck and Launchpad McQuack Alternate versions of Chip and Dale in their Rescue Rangers outfits Goofy in his Goof Troop outfit -

I've had the same thought and now you've sent me down an internet rabbit hole to gather this. It should be no surprise that Disney's licensing in Kingdom Hearts overlaps with the most popular characters picked for LEGO. But between the collectible minifigures and sets, we have the majority of Kingdom Hearts Disney characters represented in LEGO. The most notable absences in LEGO from the main 3 Kingdom Hearts games are: Pete (I'd guess he'll come one day in the Mickey and Friends line?) Pinocchio and Geppetto (which I'd guess would easily be in the lineup for a collectible series 3) Phil and Meg from Hercules Alice in Wonderland Queen of Hearts and White Rabbit Tarzan (but licensing on that might be trickier from what I gather?) Lion King Monsters Inc Big Hero Six And these characters we have as minidolls, but having minifigures would be great: Belle, Beast Mulan Rapunzel and Flynn Aurora Snow White I'm guessing that list above is where Disney will draw from first when coming up with a minifigure series 3. -
I saw the list on instagram from FalconFan.

Sorry for any confusion bringing up the rumors on the D2C set. The only rumors I've heard on instagram are that it's a microscale with nanofigures like the Hogwarts D2c, but no idea how reliable those rumors were? Can't find them again now... Hopefully, we know exactly what it is soon! The Bee and Frog costumes are great, and it's smart to keep choosing costumes without an 'M' or 'L' on the cap, so you can put them on Mario or Luigi. As opposed to the Fire/Builder/Propeller costumes which all have an 'M.' I wonder if it'll be worth it for Nintendo to come out with Luigi versions of those or not? I'm going back and forth on this. I completely agree with this. I'm in my 30s, my kids love playing with these sets, and I love building with them. And I think there's a lot of fun sharing Mario with them through LEGO and playing on the Switch together. But some of them don't scream "Mario character" the same way as Goombas, Shy guys, Koopa Troopa, Thwomps, Buzzy Beetles, Cheep-Cheeps, etc. I had to look up Crowber, Amp, and Scuttlebug cause I was at a total loss, and I've been playing Mario games since the original on NES. That said, Galoomba is a great addition. I love Super Mario World. And I'm glad to see a standalone Boo. Parachute Bob-Omb is fun (though I want a pink Bob-Omb from Mario 64!). And I'm similarly confused by what the 1-up will do and if gameplay is changing to include lives?

Saw the line-up of series 3 blind bag characters for LEGO Mario and oof, they are already scraping the bottom of the barrel on enemies! I mean, there are only so many to draw from at that size, and it's cool that they're making obscure characters. But I hope they get more creative with the blind bags as they go. A 1-up shroom is nice, though! I'm just eagerly awaiting news on the rumored/speculated set 71395 for $169.99. I'm still crossing my fingers for a microscale Peach's Castle/Mushroom Kingdom, please!

Harry Potter 2021 - Rumors & Discussion
nicknack116 replied to Captain Nemo's topic in LEGO Licensed
My pre-order of the Harry and Hermione set (76393) on LEGO.com shipped this morning. I was surprised. I didn't think LEGO would ship it early. Anyone else have any Harry Potter sets ship yet? -
Marvel Superheroes 2021 - Rumors & Discussion

I'm in the US, but I know how you feel! My LEGO Ideas Winnie the Pooh sat in the warehouse for about 5 days before being sent out in March. Not trying to rub it in, but just to throw in a good word for LEGO this time around, I ordered the Bugle online around 10pm my time on the 25th, and they had already created a tracking number by midnight that night. So it was on a truck by about 4am on the 26th. That has to be a record for any LEGO order I've ever made online. I was incredibly surprised! Hope yours hits a shipping truck soon!! -
I hadn't thought of that, but I think that's a great idea and might be pretty likely. My kids have grabbed some sets, but I wish there was an easier way to grab a Toad/Bowser/Yoshi figure without needing a set. This would be perfect. LEGO could make all the different colored Yoshi and Toads pretty easily that way, too.

From my understanding, both aspects of this recent discussion are correct: LEGO wants to work with Nintendo on more than just one wave of products (and they've already released more) and is looking into other Nintendo IPs than Super Mario. But, Nintendo's licensing with past partners (like Jakks Pacific or K'Nex or Hot Wheels) seems to be on a franchise-by-franchise case. They've also been so hesitant to license for anything that they seem to have a wait-and-see approach before licensing out more. And there's also the issue that some Nintendo characters aren't fully-owned by Nintendo by shared with second-party companies. I think Nintendo wanted to see how LEGO Super Mario turned out before moving forward on another project with a different IP. But, it's been a success, I think, and so I'm guessing Nintendo is now fully onboard with another franchise getting a LEGO treatment? I think Jakks Pacific's "World of Nintendo" line of toys is the best case of what we could potentially get from LEGO. At its most productive, Jakks made toys based on Mario, Donkey Kong, Zelda, Splatoon, Animal Crossing, Star Fox, and Pikmin. My predictions? While I'd love to see minifigure Zelda sets, I think we'll get a dungeon-building line of sets that are essentially the same as LEGO Mario, but with a digital figure Link and Legend of Zelda enemies/locations/allies. But maybe with a sword that scans enemies instead of jumping on them? I think Donkey Kong is another likely character to show up, but I wonder if we're going to see him appear in a set based on the classic arcade game so Mario can still be used in it? But, Donkey Kong is supposed to be getting the first expansion at the Universal Nintendo land in Japan. So, maybe Nintendo has their sights set on expanding that character more? And then I think the rest of the characters aren't popular enough. Or, in Animal Crossing's case, exploded in popularity too recently for anyone to know/discussed how to capitalize on the licensing in toys yet.
