  1. That does make more sense as far as speculation goes! :) I hadn't seen any of the Icons information.
  2. Just offering some wild speculation for fun based on the rumors/teases being that the film and the codename “Bright” line of sets both arrive in October. I didn’t mean to imply that “entire film genres” are gender-coded, just that, in my marketing experience working in the film industry, music-based films do tend to be more female-centered. Mostly that was just me squinting/speculating to see if there’s a way this movie news from today fit the rumored sets. Apologies.
  3. All we have is a teaser poster so far, but TandNBricks posted on Instagram that this movie is “more than a movie.” I imagine because it’s Pharrell Williams it’ll be less of a biopic in the traditional sense and more of a musical/concert film. And from a marketing perspective, that film genre is definitely more female-centered. Since it’s an official collaboration with LEGO, I think it would be more odd if there weren’t sets.
  4. Sounds like Buffalo’s Brickheadz will be 2 characters going off that piece count. Apparently Pharrell Williams announced a LEGO movie “based on his life” coming out October 11th. Could that be the theme of the sets codenamed “Bright”? Were they also rumored for October?
  5. What about Gilmore Girls? Ideas sets have hit 10,000 a few times now. The full show isn’t technically Netflix, but it’s heavily associated with it. And Netflix made the final season. I just imagine LEGO would do an Icons set instead.
  6. I hope the introduction of Nintendo minifigures this year means that we could eventually get a collectible minifigure series. That seems like the best way to get obscure characters that couldn’t justify the sales for a whole set. But I agree that Splatoon seems like the most likely candidate for LEGO to tackle next. Probably with some gimmick to replicate covering the set in ink.
  7. I agree, especially since Netflix has always been pretty slow to capitalize on merchandise for their shows until they know they have a hit. Especially toys, etc. for more family/kid-oriented shows. If 2024 brings us LEGO Zelda and Last Airbender, it’ll be one of the best years ever for me.
  8. Oh absolutely, for most of us, I agree. I was meaning TandNbricks’ comment specifically. It seemed like they were in the know on more info for the set, so their comment on minifigures was being given more weight? But maybe I misunderstood the context around TandNbricks’ posts.
  9. The implication we seem to be taking from this is that we might get more minifigs. I’m curious if that was the intention or if it was meant to just be a reminder that all we have to go off is the original leak for minifigs, so don’t read too much into that info as “confirmed” or not yet? Given it’s a Deku Tree set from OoT and BotW, there really aren’t a lot of options for additional figures. Saria? Mido guards the path to the tree in OoT and he’d be easy to make from the winter elf pieces? In the leaked image there were clearly brick-built Koroks, Hestu, and Deku Babas. I’d guess more brickbuilt enemies, etc would be more likely. It would be fun to get a Deku Scrub that could pop up from the build’s base. Or a Skulltula.
  10. I hope we see designs of buildings from past games, too. New Horizons just doesn’t have as many locations, so I’m sure they’ll draw on past games to give minifigs more context in sets. But I imagine the big concern from LEGO/Nintendo is that New Horizons is by far the most iconic version to the casual audience who would impulse buy sets. NH sold 30 million+ more copies than the previous highest-selling game (New Leaf). So, they’ll probably stick to NH more than any other game design.
  11. It's clear from the sets coming in March that they're taking inspiration from New Horizons, so I think that will continue. Besides more villager homes (which I'm sure we'll get a decent amount of throughout this theme), the other permanent locations on the island are: Resident Services (Isabelle in her island outfit for the interior and K.K. Slider giving a concert outside?) Able Sisters Shop ( Mabel and Sable and a potential for a handful of in-game clothing designs on display?) Airport (with Orville and Wilbur, their airplane, and a small island?) Museum (with Blathers and something to represent each exhibit/collection? And what about Brewster?) The only one of those I see not happening is the Museum, because the Museum modular just released this year. My opinion is LEGO would push an Animal Crossing Museum to 2025 because of that. But with the piece counts, I could see either Resident Services/Airport being the larger set and the Able Sisters shop or another villager home as the second one. Of course, we also have something not building-oriented and do smaller connected builds for the merchant stalls, the bug/fish contests, etc. I'm curious how well this line will sell. I think I'll get the sets with Tom Nook and Isabelle in March and wait for sales on the rest.
  12. I agree with the sentiment here that the sets are just as great of a building experience as other sets. For me it's the displaying of the sets that has a huge hit. Mario/Luigi/Peach are amazing when they're being played with. But the black eyes and mouth...ugh. It's why I haven't bought a single set for myself out of the course builder line. If they had made a brick-built Mario who fit in with the brick-built Boswer/Toad/etc. then I would've been satisfied not getting minifigures. Instead, I've only bought the ? block/NES/Piranha Plant and my kids have gotten a handful of sets to go with Mario and Peach. I always wondered why we never got Brickheadz of Mario and Luigi, but that's actually where I could see the line heading if the three $50 sets are new starter packs. What if they pivot the line to a Mario Kart line that works with the course sets from the past four years? Maybe the kart base could have a scanner on the bottom like the digi-figures and scan items? Or it could have a motor function like the City stunt bikes? The new starter sets would have customizable brick-built karts, and each set could come with a brick-built Mario, Luigi, or Peach that matches the style of the course set characters. BUT, LEGO could give you the option to fit the digi-figures in the karts for some extra functionality? And then eventually we'd get new kart sets to build Karts for characters other than Mario/Luigi/Peach, but you wouldn't need a digi-figure of them to enjoy the kart scanner interactivity. Just spit-balling, but it feels like Mario Kart is the next way to broaden the Mario line without introducing minifigures and making people re-buy all of the same characters again/make LEGO have to create so many custom minifigure molds.
  13. Oh, that is definitely my temptation, too! The $300 price tag stings a little, but I've waited so long for Zelda LEGO sets that I'm getting this day one, if I can. So excited, just wish it was sooner than September! Given the new molds made for this, I find it hard to believe we won't get more in 2025 and on, but will they be big sets or a line of smaller sets? I mean, Link's hair/ear/hood a Hylian shield, and likely a Master Sword are all molds that can't transfer to any other franchise/line of sets. So, LEGO has to have bigger plans...right? Very true, and quite a predicament for LEGO to decide on a direction if they go with a full series of sets. I think Ocarina to represent classic Zelda and BotW/TotK to represent modern Zelda is a great starting point. Wind Waker is one of my favorites, but with the design being so different you might even need new molds for the same items, hair, etc.
  14. Lego just shared a video on Instagram giving a quick look at the upcoming characters besides Donkey Kong. Cranky, Diddy, Funky, and Dixie are all coming as buildable characters (like Toad, Yoshi, etc)
  15. I can’t pretend to know what goes on with the LEGO design teams behind the scenes, and it seems like licensed themes are all handled uniquely. So, this is just speaking from a background in another industry’s design, but I would be surprised if LEGO didn’t have a small team coming up with at least preliminary designs in a potential second wave of sets for 2024. Even if it’s just digital designs or sketches or something. I feel like LEGO would want to be prepared in case they’re surprised by success, but not investing so heavily that they’re wasting money if it’s not worth continuing. That said, the Indy revival has been so strange that all bets are off, I think. And I’m just happy we got what we did as someone who missed the original line-up entirely. I mean, the temple set alone is amazing, and I would’ve been happy with just that set releasing.
  16. Exactly. I think their plan is to have the D2C Diagon Alley and Gringotts on shelves together for a bit while they remake DA shops as smaller-scale playsets. Then retire the D2C DA, and Gringotts will still be around for the rebooted DA line (which could easily include WWW, the Leaky Caludron, Olivanders, Borgin and Burkes by the time they’re done). Then when they retire the D2C Gringotts they’ll make a playset version of Gringotts. Then start the cycle over again!
  17. My guess is the WWW in this set would be more like the Hogsmeade buildings. So the lower piece count would probably be accounted for by using wall panels with stickers, only 6-8 studs deep, etc.
  18. If the two unknown sets are remakes of existing sets, I would guess LEGO is making the D2C have more affordable options? The $90 lines up with past Hogsmeade sets, so I could see 1-2 Diagonal Alley shops remade in the style of Honeydukes/Three Broomsticks. Maybe a smaller Olivander’s and a Leaky Caludron with the brick wall? And then isn’t the $130 set rumored to be a new micro scale Hogwarts and grounds, which would also be a remake.
  19. In the US, do we know if any/what retailers besides Lego.com and Lego Stores will have the large diorama set on April 1st?
  20. Thanks! Must’ve missed that. So glad that’ll fit perfectly on my shelf.
  21. Does anyone know the length/width/height dimensions for the 18+ diorama set? I’ve been trying to find that with no luck.
  22. Well aware of DK’s video game history and the sales. All I’m saying is that Nintendo is acting like DK is more secondary to Mario by giving him a bigger role in the Mario movie, building a whole theme park expansion dedicated to him, etc. Personally I wouldn’t be surprised if Nintendo pushes to add DK to the current line of app-based Mario sets in the next year or two. It would add synergy to their own decisions around the character lately.
  23. Ah, good point. I’m guessing LEGO YouTubers know not to use watermarked images, but Nintendo YouTubers might have used them in the video.
  24. I saw an article on NintendoLife. I guess LEGO is copyright striking Youtube videos discussing the Zelda LEGO set. What does that usually mean when LEGO does that?
  25. Counter-point: the Disney fans most willing to put down large amounts of money for merchandise are probably in the niche who go to theme parks regularly. That said, I think that the castles and train station are probably the most iconic parts of the parks to the general public. So besides those sets, minifigure-scale sets based on the theme parks would probably be a harder sell than a scene from a Disney animated movie.
