After reading a review posted on here about the Farnsworth House, I liked the set alot. The only thing that bothered me was the scale it was designed in. This weekend I was a bit bored, so I decided to create a mock-up of this set in minifig scale, using Lego Digital Designer. It's not perfect, and there's no interior, I was simply testing the scale and proportions of it. Please let me know what you think. Is anyone planning on ordering two sets, and building a 32-wide townhouse and a 32-wide Pet Shop? The townhouse could be a duplex, two side-by-side, and the pet shop could simply be made wider. How do you think that would look? Locutis

This is a wonderful looking set, and I think I may have to get multiple copies of it. I think based on past releases, you will see the end of the Grand Emporium in the near future. On the back of the box, the Grand Emporium is pictured on the left, and if you look at the sets going back to Green Grocer, the next one to be discontinued is always on the left. Thoughts? Locutis

I just built the engine this afternoon, but I haven't built the wagons yet. I'm not as excited either for the wagons. I really want to motorize this train, but I don't really want the stuff to be inside the engine. Instead, I want to build some rolling stock cars that can hold cargo inside, and in one of them I will motorize and insert the battery. I want to then use what I learn and build one just like it (but in older style) for my Emerald Night train (I hate that large engine sticking out the back of the EN, but that's a whole other discussion thread). I do like the engine, but I question the build a lot. I don't understand a lot of their techniques. It's not like the modular buildings, where they use a technique for something, and I say "hey! I never would have thought of that, it's really cool", I'm just like "meh". The train looks fantastic, but I really didn't enjoy building it all that much. I think you could easily build an engine that looks identical to this on the outside using completely different techniques inside. Locutis

Hi everyone, I had been lurking on here for years, and joined in the fall of 2010. I have also been on other forums, and on the Bricklink forums. Overall, I do have to say I do really like the discussions which appear on Eurobricks over the other forums I have frequented. The level of discussion leans more towards real people who have something good to say, and the garbage just isn't tolerated (unlike on Bricklink forum posts, for example). There seem to be a number of Moderators who circulate the forums and actually do their jobs, and the rules appear to be straightforward and there for a reason. To the Moderators, I say THANK YOU! I consider Eurobricks my first and most visited Lego site because of this. There is almost a level of professionalism associated with Eurobricks, which seems lost on other sites. Maybe it's the rules and Moderator policing, or maybe it's because the people who cause problems have all been banned, I don't really know. All I can say is I really like Eurobricks and enjoy reading it the most because it feels like a real community, and reminds me of the days when I was much younger, and went to the local computer meetings once per month. I got to interact with people who had the same interests as myself, we got to see things that were new and upcoming, and got to see things that I had never seen before. Eurobricks compares very much to this experience. I hope moving forwards, it can only get better. Why do you like Eurobricks? Locutis

I ordered mine on March 31, and it shipped on April 1. I received it today (April 7). I'm in Manitoba, Canada, so it's not too bad for transit time from Lego, which ships from the USA. Although I have it staring at me, and begging to be built, I won't be able to for several weeks... Locutis

I like this train station MOC a lot! It's simple, yet features some intricate details. Very nicely done!

I was browsing the Lego S@H site on March 31 in the evening, and was hoping they'd add the ability to order it, but they hadn't. I then was check out other parts of the Lego site, and reloaded the Maersk Train, and it was accepting orders! I was placing my order, and I decided I'd initially order 3 sets, which is the most I could stomach at one time. When I went to checkout, they were going to charge me $37 for shipping! AH! I went back and changed it to 1 set, and they were then at $30 for shipping. I thought, well, let's see how much the shipping is on 5 sets, and it was $39. I didn't really want to spend over $800 all at once (they gouge us Canadians, similarly to the Australians), but then I was listening to the news at the same time, and I heard an interesting story! We have government insurance on our vehicles here, and apparently they revealed to the Public Utilities Board that they had a $350 Million surplus, so they wanted to give everyone a 10% rebate from last years' insurance. However, the Public Utilities Board said, hold on, a WHAT? SURPLUS? No, you're giving it ALL back to your ratepayers. So I'm getting a cheque back equal to 45% of my last years' insurance, which means $700! As soon as I heard that, my order went from the one I had in my cart to 5, and I hit CHECKOUT!!! The order already shipped this morning from S@H! Hopefully I have them in two weeks. I went from wanting to order 5, to needing to order only 1, to being able to order and pay for 5, all in a matter of 10 minutes. What a roller coaster ride that was. I can't wait! Locutis

Thanks for the review. I hadn't heard of this set before. This is the first Architectural set available in Canada. When I saw it I first thought it was an April Fools joke. While I find it a nice model to look at, I'd be interested in building it to minifig scale. Shouldn't be too difficult. Would anyone care to provide the PDF# for the manual to be downloaded from Lego.com ? This would certainly make doubling the size easier Locutis

I was just checking the Lego.com site, and I refreshed the Maersk Train page, and it was accepting orders! I've ordered my 5!!!

I think it actually goes between the first and second "fan vent" on the top. If you look there's a rounded bump on top which resembles the bump in the receiver, so as to look the same with or without. At least that's what I think. Locutis

Exclusive Train 10219 Maersk Train (Exclusive 2011)
Locutis replied to paul_delahaye's topic in LEGO Train Tech
I'm glad I have had a couple of months to plan for the Maersk Train release. At first I wanted to buy just one, but then I thought about it, and then wanted 2. Now I'm thinking I'm going to buy the 5 I'll be limited to, and tucking them away. The time from seeing this until release has allowed me to allocate funds that otherwise would have been surprised my bank account. It's like the difference between knowing your hot water tank is going to fail, and putting a bit of money away for it, or not knowing and having to fork out $600. I have Emerald Night trains brand new that I'm going to resell later to pay for the Maersk trains I buy, as I like them about 25% better than EN. Only problem now is that the address I usually get some of my Lego shipped to is closing from April 1 through May to prepare for the spring flood we get in the Red River Valley every year. I myself may have to relocate my brand new Lego stocked up in my basement to another location to prepare for the possibility of getting flooded myself. Which causes me a problem: I wanted to order 5 all at once, but I don't want to have any get damaged. I could order just one for now, but what happens if they sell out and never become available again? Then what?!?!? I also do hate the anticipation, but it builds patience. Having to wait for things makes you appreciate them all the more when you finally do get them. I already have the motors and battery packs in anticipation. I only wish Lego would have accepted backorders on this product so that I wouldn't have had to worry about going online and hitting their site on April 1, and possibly not getting in to order. I don't have the luxury of a local Lego store that will carry these. Everyone I show a picture of this set to just absolutely loves it. I think Lego will have a classic here with this set, and demand for it will only go up, even if the supply is steady by hoarders, it will always be a good set, in my opinion. If anyone who already has this set can post the inventory list somewhere, it would be beneficial to many. This has been requested on BrickLink and I do not believe anyone has posted the list. If anyone has the box, can you please take a picture of the parts list? Many thanks!!! Locutis- 379 replies

Henryhotspurs, I couldn't agree more. Your story is exactly like mine. However, recently I decided to try my hand at assembling a Market Street. I did find a lot of parts for it in other sets, and in Lego PAB online. The biggest trouble was the 1x4 dark blues, but I substituted for buying 1x8 and 1x10 and 1x12 in dark blue, and 1x2 on Lego S@H PAB, and I think I have a (mostly accurate) Market Street for less than $300. Of course, I don't have the balcony railings in the correct color (white, which is rare) but I don't really care for 100% accuracy at this point. 99.9% is fine for me, and may even be for you. I have all of the parts, and I haven't even touched them since getting them 2 months ago! I have lots of projects that have been put on hold because of work, and parts just sit in bins. I bought many copies of each of Green Grocer, Fire Brigade, and Grand Emporium. When GG was discontinued, I resold them for more than double what I paid for them, and I'm waiting for FB to discontinue so I can do the same. Whenever I'm building a MOC and I find I need a bunch of pieces, I look at the pieces included with some of the new sets I've "hoarded" and see if I can use a majority of them. So far I've "destroyed" some Winter Toy Shops, Winter Bakery, but most importantly (and relevant to this thread) some Grand Emporiums. I found Grand Emporium to be a good parts pack for building some MOC modulars (lots of windows, lots of useful tan, a tan baseplate, etc. I know many people shop BrickLink for single pieces for their MOCs, but I prefer to buy brand new from Lego. I think the modulars are a good price/piece, and have good classic model designs (they don't "look" like Lego sets per se). As long as Lego keeps making them, I'll be forced to buy multiples of each set. Unfortunately, I started into this thing too late, and I only obtained one Cafe Corner, sans box. At first I absolutely loved Cafe Corner, and thought it was the best, but as I've built other subsequent modulars, I've found a new love in each new set, with their unique building techniques I never would have thought of (like the roofs in the Winter sets, for example, or the SNOT numbers on FB, etc.). You almost can't go wrong owning a modular building, as long as you keep the box in good condition, and all of the pieces in good condition, because historically they have always sold for more than their introduction price even in used (but 100% complete) condition. AAA Battery Box (88000) vs. Rechargeable Battery Box (8878)
Locutis replied to legotrainfan's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Shop@Home in North America lists this as available, but UK says "Sold Out". Very interesting... -
Thanks for the information! After receiving your message on this thread, I replied to my email to Lego indicating that the pieces required for the modification were not part of the set, and I received this reply: Looks like a "kit" does in fact exist for this set. Pry and you shall receive. Locutis
