  1. I agree that they can't be selling that poorly. They are even introducing new sets, so it's proof they do sell well. Otherwise, Lego would have discounted and eliminated this line (look at Prince of Persia and you'll know what I mean). I have bought one of these just to get a Spongebob minifig. I'm debating in getting Neighbours of Bikini Bottom just to get some others, and to get some nice pieces. It's still on my undecided list. Locutis
  2. Thanks silentmode for the review. I would have liked to see more clearly how the roof in the gazebo is made. It looks like a clip, and a semi-round plate, but the pic looks dark and I can't quite make it out. No problem, though, as my wife has one of these coming for her display. She has the Winter Toy Shop, Bakery, and a Medieval Market Village to go into a display. For Christmas I ordered her a Mill Village and a Diagon Alley to go with the other buildings. I myself have parted out two of each of the Bakery and Toy Shop into my parts for MOCs, and I have unopened boxes of each as well. I am undecided whether I want to do that with this year's set or not. I do like the dark green, though, so I might have to get it just for those. Your reviews are always great, keep them coming! 3. Very nice architecture on the buildings. I like the color of the green building better than the red one, but classic Lego red is not my favourite color at all. That's only my opinion on the color, though, I'm sure others will say it's nice. EDIT: On second thought, maybe it's orange? My display can't decide If it's orange, it's nice, but I would have maybe stuck in a few pieces of brown or dark red with the orange to give it a more classic look. I do like how you built those buildings, though. They do look like classic buildings I used to see around my town when I was growing up (before they all got demolished). Keep up the good work. 4. I have found that the Emerald Night is a train that fits in nicely (however, it *is* big) with the Winter Village sets. You can even build some extra cars that hold the trees and presents just like the Holiday Train. Lego PAB offers the wheels, the magnet couplers, and the baseplates used for a train car. My only problem is trying to build a very nice and simple train station to fit in with the theme. I know many of the contest winners last year were train stations, but I don't really like copying other ideas. I couldn't get mine to look quite right last year, and gave up. Maybe I'll try again this fall... Locutis
  5. I'm glad you took my suggestion L@go, it's very flattering. I can't wait to see the pics. I really liked how you made the center of the building inset between the two outter pillars. I'd love to see other angles of your building, too. Please take lots of pictures!!! Locutis
  6. That's great to hear fyrmedhatt! I guess you didn't want to have any substitutions in your model, which is the reason for the pain in your wallet! For anyone considering building this, you can save money on the doors by buying Light Grey instead of the official Light Blue Grey. Light Grey doors are only about $1 each on BL, but the official LBG is costly. I held the two colors side-by-side, and they look nearly identical in color. This is one way to conserve funds. Also, the 1x4 in dark blue can get costly, so as I indicated you can substitute with other functional pieces of the same color, and it will look proper, but won't be the same. See the suggestion 'Mr Benn' had by using 3 of the 1x4 plates in dark blue to make one 1x4 brick. Also, 'asmodai' used a bunch of 1x2 in place of all of the 1x4, which is another option. I hope others can share their stories here about how they built their Market Street. We could all use the buying and building tips on these to save some money. After all, it is Lego, and you can build using alternate pieces in many cases without making it look too different. Locutis
  7. I thought the glue Lego used could be loosened with hydrogen hydroxide. Am I wrong? Has anyone tried? Locutis
  8. A very nice MOC, for one of my very favourite books. I also love the movie, showing a much simpler life. Are you going to build it out of bricks, or is your project just the LDD file? It would be neat to see the major scenes in this movie/book recreated as vignettes in Lego. Keep on building! Locutis
  9. Well, my 8-year-old son loves it, so it must be really good! Thanks for all of the detailed pictures. It really shows every aspect of your village. Good job, keep up the good work! Locutis
  10. This is a very nice MOC. Good job! Thanks for posting the pics. Locutis
  11. Very nice! Next step you should build it with brick! Locutis
  12. I don't think they will ever re-issue these sets. Here's why: 1. These sets contain rare parts that aren't in production anymore. If they don't want to start back production of the rare parts, they would have to substitute, which would mean the sets are different. Most people wouldn't want a different set, they would want the SAME set. 2. It would anger a lot of people who buy Lego just to sell it later on. I imagine a good percentage (say, 3-5%) of Lego's business is in the collector reseller business, and if you start re-issuing things that people have "invested" in, you will anger both the collector who just bought one for 3x retail, and the guy who's sitting on 10 of these who can't sell them anymore. Do you think both of these groups of people would ever speculate on another modular building ever again? No. This would affect future sales of future modulars. 3. Based on your comment about "price increase", you're assuming that Lego would re-issue these and price them higher than the current models to make the money the collector-resellers are making. The problem with this is that 90% of buyers aren't paying the high prices for Cafe Corner and Market Street, they just aren't buying one at all. If Lego were to re-issue Market Street and Cafe Corner at $400 (which is at least 1/2 what they are currently selling for), how many people would buy them? People would start to wonder why a current modular can sell for $150, but this other one sells for $400 for some strange reason. It would anger customers, more than not offering it at all. 4. Lego already tried this with the Legends series. It bombed, mostly for the reasons listed above. Locutis
  13. I've had this problem, too. I think the lights would look nice all lit up by themselves. An alternative: Power Functions Light Power Functions Battery Then run the wires under some bricks, and connect your buildings. You can then light your buildings and if you use the remote control and IR sensor, you can turn them on/off remotely, and dim them, too. Locutis
  14. Just an FYI that this book is available from the online site bookdepository.com: Here Locutis
  15. Here it is with both balconies in grey: Locutis
  16. I don't have an exact tally. However, if you consider that some of the pieces came from sets, and you factor out the cost of them vs. the set cost. Also, some pieces were ordered from BL as used (but arrived in nearly new condition). If I were to guess I would say the cost is around $250. I didn't record each piece and its related cost, though. But like I mentioned above, I saved a bundle of money by buying pieces that look similar, and function the same, but are not identical. One example is the 1x10 dark blue bricks, in place of 1x4. I did, however, luck out on the 1x8x2 dark blue arches, that I purchased in January for 1/50 of the current going rate! A nice substitute for those would be either black, or dark grey, I think, if I didn't have them. Locutis
  17. Not feeling well today, so I decided to put together what I had for the Market Street set. There are some missing pieces, which I am awaiting to arrive. I've substituted a few pieces for some waiting to arrive, and for some that I won't be able to source a replacement for. I have not yet decided whether the balcony should be in grey or black. You be the judge! Edit: One of my photos was deleted from flickr. The full set is on flickr: Complete Image Set on Flickr This project cost me a whole lot less than buying some of the 100% correct pieces. See some of my suggested substitutions above. Locutis
  18. What about a combination of option 1 and 2? I like the green banner portion of option 2. What about the front facade being just like option 2, but the remainder of the back part of the roof like option 1? I've included a Photoshop of what I pictured in my mind (and described above). Locutis Resistance is futile.
  19. I guess by "Hello Again", you mean "This item is still for sale/trade." Is that correct? If so, you may want to be clearer in your post. Locutis
  20. I prefer the 1/2 scale minis: As much as I love to collect and build one of everything, I am torn on this set. Besides, it doesn't have the Pet Shop, so I can't buy it and display it with my sets, because it won't look the same. To me, this set is something I most likely will pass on, as sad as it seems. If they were 1/2 scale, I think I would have jumped on it for sure, though. Locutis
  21. Definitely option 1. Locutis
  22. In case anyone hasn't noticed, this set is now available to order from Lego S@H. Locutis
  23. I can clearly see in the picture I have of that Police Station, that the 'brick' brick on the bottom right has a line in it on the reverse side. This indicates that the back also has a pattern on it. In regards to the bottom left, I agree it does appear to be a 1x1 'brick' brick. Very strange, indeed! Maybe the 1x1 'brick' brick has the pattern on all 4 sides? We'll have to wait and see when these become available. I can't wait! Locutis
  24. I saw this originally in the forum, and I would have jumped on all of the items, had it not been for one thing: low (or no) feedback. I had a bad experience where I was ripped off (for almost $600), and I no longer trust anyone over the internet who doesn't have an established customer relationship. For your sake (and others who sent funds), I certainly hope this individual comes through for you. Some of the prices lend themselves to be "too good to be true". I could be suspicious of nothing, but again, I was scammed a year ago, and I'm suspicious of a lot now. For those that purchased from this person, it would be a good idea to post feedback right away that you received the item(s). Locutis
  25. I like the colors and the details you have added to this MOC. I also agree with the other posters, that making the walls removable is also a neat feature. Very nice! Locutis
