Depends how many bricks you have. Only a few? By colour works. More than 10k? I’d suggest by category (eg all 1x bricks, all 2x bricks etc), and do some separation in each category (eg separate out 1 and 2 stud length from the longer ones or they’ll get lost among the larger pieces). https://brickarchitect.com/guide/bricks/large/ this person has great ways to handle different sized collections, and a handy guide to categories you can use as a starting point (but be flexible and merge/split as you need based on how many drawers/space you have) I display my lego in Ikea Billy bookcases with glass Morlinen doors on, to help protect a little from dust. a mix of 30cm and 40cm deep depending on what space I have.

so true. I’ve just ‘finished’ moving my collection from plastic really useful drawers to the wide 6 drawer Ikea Alex to be neater. I started with two but then immediately bought another, and I have an old 5 drawer narrow alex which I can use some drawers for extended storage I realise that then limits what I can reasonably store before it overflows and then I’ll need to adapt. So I’m going to try a hybrid coping mechanism: - have a core bunch of parts in drawers, and try and manage as new types come in - however I know the ‘snot’ drawer is limited on space so I’ll work on that. - Allow for some overflow eg putting common colours in bags and storing at the back of the drawers or I could move to boxes in the loft as I’ll only need occasionally - Try and limit ‘blowing up’ my parts by selecting some favourite sets that I won’t sell or part out and if I dismantle I’ll store those in bags as ‘complete sets’ in the loft. Then if I’m looking for a part I can check my drawers, if I run out of a piece I can check overflow, and if needed I can consider taking from a set. However in this third level I’d realistically just bricklink the pieces.

My son has left behind his childish ways and is off to University. He's kicked out all his lego so thats coming down to my home office/spare room. I'm looking to consolidated storage and hopefully make it neater. I have a mix of really useful drawer units with the dividers inside - handy with locking lids for protection against clumsy children dropping them, but garish colours and a bit ugly. I'm thinking to switch to either Ikea Helmer or Alex drawers. Initially I'm thinking two of the wide alex should fit 24 of the really useful dividers, or 5 of the Helmer units would let me have 30 dividers. The helmers can have the drawers fully removable but individually are smaller. The Alex pull out less far but I can use that 'hidden' storage with overflow etc. I'm also wondering if the wider drawers are better for more bulk bricks (although I could just use entire helmers for that if necessary) Any thoughts? both would take up roughly the same footprint. One possible advantage of the Alex is I could also use them for display as they're wider (67cm) vs the wobblier and more fragmented multiple helmers.

sorry for the ultra late reply! Does this pic help?

No, how big is that? Looks good. It is mostly from pieces in the Big Ben set itself, and adapting the build techniques the main model uses. So lots of 1x1 bricks with studs on the faces (2 and 4) and lots of tan grilles and 1x1 bricks. If you build the main big ben set you'll get a decent feel for what you'd need.

Wow, looks beautiful. Do you have any pics sitting next to the UCS for scale?
-
10xxx would suggest UCS, but 99 euro isn't much different from the current X-Wing RRP, so perhaps a playset with support staff and loading gantry etc?

Does anyone know when the new small sets are due in the UK? I'd like to get Emma's karate class (41002) as a present for my wife who takes karate classes herself. I think they are on the US lego store website, but nothing in the UK yet. At chance of them by Christmas?

seems fiddly with the battery box switch being used to control direction. Also they don't seem to have synchronised the actions - eg when the battery box is in the right direction to lower the gear, it raises the cargo door. Personally I'd prefer if one direction on the battery box was 'down' for gear/door/winch, and the other direction was 'up' - less confusion. Even better would have been for them to include instructions on how to put a simple up/down switch somewhere on the body.

My brain is having trouble comprehending the awesome in this pic. So many different scales. I love nanoblocks too, might try something like this

cheers! missed it first time, grabbed it now.

Review: 10228 Haunted House
mrklaw replied to mostlytechnic's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
I'm surprised they didn't do the detachable floors for this. Other than the modulars, the Friends sets and creator houses use a similar method to let you get to different parts of the house, or reconfigure the layout. This hinged approach is cute, but not ideal if you plan to place your set in a scene - only works on a hard floor/surface. -
gone already. Had it in my basket but was out of stock before I could checkout. Up to £55 from toy barn or somewhere now. boo.

mrklaw replied to mrklaw's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
Hi, Yes, Dozer is still available and I'll ship to the US. Shipping would be about £30 though (might be a bit less if you don't need the box). Call it $250 delivered -
New Dino Theme Idea
mrklaw replied to Lieutenant_Colonel_Fifi's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
My problem with the Dino themes is that the dinos need to be big, and they are all practically one piece. That makes them -expensive - not very interesting to build I'd actually like to see a hero factory approach to this. Give us actual recognisable dinosaurs that we build. That way we can have them bigger,NBC articulated and kids can role play to their hearts content. -
If you can find a nearby John Lewis they should still have some, as they have a mini Olympics section in-store. My local one had gb minifigs in that section and in the Lego section

Technics Mobile Crane 8421 and Bulldozer 8275 for sale
mrklaw replied to mrklaw's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
Hi Andy, Thanks for the sale - should be with you tomorrow, enjoy. Only 8275 still for sale now -
If I have enough of them, or I find them an often used part, then they get their own little container. If not then they go into one of two sections for big and little misc pieces
-
Thanks. Which little bridge? Westminster bridge would be outside of the baseplate, and the steps/arch in front of the tower would be too.

Amazon price back up on hillside house - just as I was about to buy it. John Lewis still £30 though. No stock on the website at the moment but their stores may have - high Wycombe had plenty at the weekend at the same price
-
Something like that could be good, or kitchen units with shallow drawers (with glossy fronts and nice handles they wouldn't look too 'kitcheny'). I was looking at kitchens at the weekend and when I was looking at some of the double width drawers I was thinking how good they'd be for Lego :) Then you just need good dividers inside the drawers.

RC crawlers are much slower but your point still stands in that they are more capable (and more expensive) than the Lego crawler. But so what? If you're into RC then buy RC. If you're into Lego then buy lego. If you're into both then but it anyway to see how both of your hobbies come together. I have a scale ish crawler for outdoors, and a mini rock crawler for indoors, but when I saw this Lego set it was an instant must-buy

Any tips for feeling out the archer? Bought a few of these at the weekend for the kids and wanted the archer myself as I do archery as a hobby. But it seems so difficult figuring out what the bits are in the bag, I didn't want to spend too much time fiddling with bags looking for the right ones.
