  1. That is really nice! The figures are positioned just right to make it look like a full-on action scene. Pirate taverns can be dangerous places
  2. Hi all, I've only been out of my Lego dark ages for a couple of months, I did get the Brickmaster Pirates book, which I bought and enjoyed immensely, especially the pirate and the redcoat. So much so, I took the 2 Lego minifigures with me on holiday so I could stretch my photography skills to take pictures of toys in situations other than simply posed on my shelf, or on a table. I also thought they'd suit the sandy, sundrenched climes of Lanzarote in the Canary Islands a bit better than my Atlantis divers! Here are the pics I took, I was trying to go for natural-looking scenes. The last one was a real fluke as the ship was out as we were walking along the coast towards a harbour. I couldn't find a "Pirates photography" thread in the same vein as the Star Wars one so have just made a new topic here. I hope this is OK, if not, I would be happy if the mods can move it to a more appropriate locale. Thank you for looking and I would appreciate any comments
  3. My Asda had the Clone Walker and the Stormtrooper Speeder Bike thing. As escort said, they are in baskets (completely missed seeing them on first browse of the toy aisles).
  4. I don't tend to post much on the Star Wars forum but I just wanted to say on here that you combine fantastically clear pics with brilliant humour and your reviews are always an absolute pleasure to read.
  5. Welcome to Eurobricks, I'm sure you'll fit right in with this friendly community. Just keep your cats away from the Lego and it's all good
  6. The themes these days involve many good guy/bad guy archetypes, and it makes sense to have opposing factions as conflict drives storytelling.
  7. Definitely, they got NinjaGo out early here in the UK and there are adverts for it (with the ninja eyes logo) all over the place. It's definitely the line they are putting most of their marketing muscle behind, and I'd say for the same reasons you mentioned, to aggressively go after a different type of market.
  8. Thanks for the heads up all. I did check my local Asda on Saturday night and it had nothing new at all, so perhaps they'll have new stuff in when I go next.
  9. I didn't realise we were that close to getting a new Argos catalogue, I'll keep an eye out. Thanks :classic:
  10. Not a specific sales item but a question, think it fits best here with all the UK peeps. When will the supermarkets (mainly Tesco) and Toys R Us get the new sets in? I'm getting antsy seeing the stuff come in in dribs and drabs - TRU has some NinjaGo stuff and the new series 3 Minifigures, Tesco has some smaller NinjaGo sets and the new Lego Racers sets, of all things! I hope they get the series 3 sets in soon, series 2 seemed a strong seller. But where are the new Star Wars sets? Where is the 2011 Atlantis stuff? When will we see Pharaoh's Quest on shop shelves?
  11. I really like the big sub, you've matched the Atlantis aesthetic pretty well :) And the Servo Backpack is very swish!
  12. Thank you for the review, it's one we've all been waiting for for a while. I like the car and the bottom part of the sphinx, the area with the golden sword, but the sphinx itself always looks a bit awkward, mainly due to the identical, spindly thin legs. I'm sure people will add some more bricks to it to give it a better shape. Combined with the low-key minifigures who are available in much cheaper sets, means it's not an instant buy for me, although a sale price on this would be worthwhile.
  13. I am definitely out of the closet as an AFOL. I got my mum to get me some Atlantis sets for Christmas. At work, my colleagues used to all try to guess which Series 2 Collect A Minifigure packs I had bought by feeling the bags (like I had done in the shop) whenever I bought them from the supermarket at lunchtime. They'd have a good look at the list and then try to work out which ones they were. They were more impatient to see them opened than I was! I can understand why some of the late teens-early 20s AFOLs could get a bit embarrassed but that passes with age. I have been collecting action figures (Star Wars/Transformers/Minimates) for over 15 years as an adult (I'm 35 now) and I always say I can grow old but I don't have to grow up! I don't really care what anyone thinks. I have had a couple of sniffy cashier girls ask me if I was buying toys for myself and I never really saw any reason to lie. I'd always be polite and respond but to be honest it's none of their business - bottom line is, I'm spending money in their store.
  14. Hi all, I've recently emerged from my Lego dark age and despite buying some lovely shiny new sets over the last month or so I had a hankering to go up in my loft and get out the 2 big boxes of Lego I had as a child of the 1980s. Sadly only a couple of instructions remain (luckily I still have my Galaxy Explorer instructions) and as I was building that set I found a fragment of an instruction sheet of a set I loved as a kid. A bit of online investigation later, and I can bring you a brief review of 6609 Race Car. Name: Race Car Theme: LEGO System / Town Year: Some sources say 1980 (which would make more sense to me as this is something I'd've loved more at 5 years old than at 8 years old) but others (including this website) say 1983. Pieces: 12 or 17, depending on whether you include Mini-figure parts. Minifigs: 1 Price: No idea, but I imagine it was an impulse set of that era. Resources: Brickset Peeron You can see how tattered and incomplete my instruction sheet is: However with so few pieces I was confident of remaking it. The figure is really cool, I was particularly taken with this little guy when I was younger cos what boy didn't love the idea of being a race car driver. For its day, the torso print was unique and eyecatching, and went very well with the car itself. Even in the early 80s there seemed to be a lot of Police and Fire sets so a racer really stood out as a special figure. Obviously mine is slightly faded now, but he is at least 28 years old so please give him a break! Here he is stood next to the car itself. The car was very simple even for the time, being more of a "kart racer" than an actual car with doors or even wheelguards, but the basics are all there (4 studs wide, like all of its contemporaries) and it's done in lovely bright colours to really add to the Town sets of the time. The printed front brick is very distinctive even now. The figure and the car go together beautifully and this was just a classic set for its time. Very easy to build, very easy to customise, and very easy to replicate with other available bricks. I see it being quite similar to the Smart car impulse set of the recent Lego City line, so here are a couple of comparison shots: Summary: Playability: 9/10 - Brrrrrrrrrrrrm! Boy Racer! Very small and easy to push around for kids, rolls very well on a flat surface, less so on carpet. Design: 10/10 - Very simple design yet still incorporates nice colours and unique pieces to make the mini-figure and car stand out. Price: Not sure what the cost was, but as an impulse set, I'm sure it made its way into many collections Overall, a simple set but one that had a very visual appeal to it and it was a winner in my book! 9 out of 10! Thank you for reading, I hope you enjoyed my first review.
  15. I've managed to resist the bigger Star Wars sets since coming out of my dark age recently, but I would be all over that Millennium Falcon! Great to see a pic even if it is a tad blurry.
  16. Thanks for the very clear pictures of the minifigures and especially the cards. Great stuff I can see the market they are aiming for, but isn't the point of the Bakugan and similar stuff that it's pocket-money kind of cheap for the kids, so they can get loads of different ones? I think Lego have priced themselves out, to be honest.
  17. I have liked all of these but that last one was priceless, especially with the hacked up Tusken Raiders in the background Great stuff all round, one of my favourite threads to look at on the forum.
  18. My vote would go to the Classic Lego Spaceman (in red or white). An instantly recognizable toy icon.
  19. Great review with some awesome pics! The temple has a really classic look to it, I can see this being a really popular set for Atlantis fans and as a parts pack. I have to say I am really digging that crab mini-fig. I think all the Atlantis undersea warriors look amazing and these 2011 ones are even better than before. Like someone else mentioned on the main Atlantis thread, I would have loved to see a Battle Pack with some more of them in.
  20. Tesco have reduced a few Atlantis sets in-store until 7th December. The Guardian of the Deep and Seabed Scavenger sets have been reduced to £8.99 (from £12.99). The Wreck Raider is a bargainous £5.99 (from £7.99) - a lovely price for such a cool set. The Monster Crab Clash set has also been reduced to £3.49 (from £4.99). I got the shark yesterday, with one of my Toy vouchers. I expected to get just that but cos it was reduced I had to get something else to get the price over £10. So I picked up the Crab set. Overall I paid less for the 2 sets than I was expecting to pay for just the one. Result!
  21. Great review as always. From the build pics I preferred the look of the snake when the hood wasn't attached. It looks a bit goofy with that giant hood. I think this was a good concept but the execution was slightly off.
  22. Wasn't too impressed by initial pics of the set, and this review doesn't dispel any of my skepticism. That of course is no criticism of the review, which is clear and informative with lovely pics. The hammerhead guy is great, I have loved all the Atlantis warriors so far and they are really pushing the boat out ( ) with the 2011 ones. Awesome. However the walker just doesn't excite me. The transformation seems a bit weak, and the colours grate a little compared to last years Atlantis sets.
  23. So what's the deal with the battle pack? I thought that's what the Golden Staff set was?
  24. Love the new pics. I really like that the scorpion looks very integrated into the architecture of the pyramid design and colour-wise. I think they have taken on board the lessons learned from the Atlantis guardians.
  25. That's a cool little speeder thing. I like. Still not convinced by the yellow on the divers though, I think the original Atlantis crew in green looked much better.
