Hey man, it's this simple... search for the real truth behind the reason you brick, whether it is for the design, or for the collecting, or the figs, or even to run an inventoried store, get close to it, and enjoy. If you are doing it for any other reason, you're wasting your time.

Eurobricks as an advertising portal for Ideas projects
zmasterbrick replied to Andy D's topic in Community
It feels like the Lego Ideas thing is losing steam anyways. The whole concept needs social media to propagate, and that makes sense, but really look at what becomes a set after countless hours of networking. I've been at the Lego store and watched kids just roll right past the Cuuso sets, and I have to say with a very light heart, I can't blame them. Maybe the management should dedicate a section to promoting just Ideas? -

New to LDD designer
zmasterbrick replied to Russell1982's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
I've built extensively in LDD, spent hours tweaking angles and turing things inside out. You'll find the program can be a little quirky at times. My advice is to just move on. Don't get hung up too long on specifics, it can hinder the creative spirit. -
Put 3 on the board as they hit the trash can........and the crowd goes wild

The build is finally done! Check it out on my site, or Brickshelf. I hope it inspires a ton of cool builds!

I agree with you on Mp, but let's agree to disagree about Flickr. Flickr was like a war zone for me. Even though the cream of the crop display their work there, the community mixes East side with West side in the wrong places, right down to adult and kids saying the wrong things at the wrong times. It became so toxic for me, I decided to display my stuff on my own website, which has actually worked out well. I do Brick Shelf also. I personally think Flickr is a black mark on the Lego Community. I was just about ready to hang it up, and then I ran across Eurobricks. I had no idea it was such an organized respectable establishment.

How do you control your spending & what do you collect
zmasterbrick replied to Seeky's topic in General LEGO Discussion
You have a good point about specifically managing your collection, what good is a brick if you can't or don't use it right? Knowing what you want is definitely half the battle. -
IMHO this place leads the community curve compared to Flickr and MocPages 2 to 1.

I agree, the idea is so simple, and as a bonus, the new movie is going to be directed by the same dude that engineered the first trilogy. It should be awesome. Check out a trailer on Youtube if you get a chance.

Your thoughts on "cutting lego" ?
zmasterbrick replied to Breakdown's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Good point on the purity of Lego, but I do have to say in this day and age, it is just "real tempting" to take the modeling aspect to the next level with a little "outside help" from a sticker, or nip here or tuck there. -
I was surprised to hear "Crickets" on this thread? You and me both, I'm excited too, it's definitely going to be the summer shoot em up cult classic. Pictures you say? I have the entire spread coming no later than this Saturday, hopefully Friday, it has really turned out awesome, I felt like a kid again building it! Hey, just threw in an edit pic of the trailer. Being all black it is hard to capture with a quick pic, but I have a great photo shoot planned that will bring this build to life. So, I leave the thread with a quote from Max himself....... "I am the Nightrider. I'm a fuel injected suicide machine. I am the rocker, I am the roller, I am the out-of-controller!"

I'm sorry, I passed out and hit my head when I tried to put "control spending" and "Lego" in the same sentence, what were we talking about? -
I recently seen a guy make a canopy for his Airbus on a 3D printer. I'm thinking it won't be too long before LDD has this option? Ahh the future!

There is a new version of the classic apocalyptic movie Road Warrior, starring Mad Max, (sadly not Mel Gibson though) in his infamous Interceptor coming out in June. I think it will have a plethora of vehicles that could be built out of Lego! Is anyone else excited about this movie?

Very well put. In this day and age, everything just feels like it is one micro second from selling out. I have my fingers crossed that Lego won't.

Welfy, I've been threatening to join ULUG for a while now. If I dedicate any more time to Lego, I am probably going to become one. I will try to get with you guys before BrickSlopes. -
I started over about a year ago or so with my collection. I spent a couple of days searching a Bricklink store for an inventory that I was looking for. I contacted the owner, told him my interest in buying most of his lot, haggled out a bulk discount, and free shipping! It worked out awesome. Also, as many have already stated, Ebay can be a winner too.

As an avid LDD builder, I have been dang near overwhelmed lately by the influx of new "specialty" pieces derived from all of the new action sets (i.e. China etc.) Sometimes I think that Lego out to back off of the new piece thing a bit, and run with the selection they have. They could just diversify the existing collection with new colors. It might help to "not dilute" the whole basic concept of brick assembly. Then again, maybe I'm just getting old.....

From my standpoint, it's more of a "losing their religion" situation rather than dying as a company that puts good numbers on the board. Their name brand will live forever, but will the philosophy of hoping simple bricks together to sculpt? I am afraid for the future there.
-
I worry deeply about Lego being purchased or should I say enveloped by the Disney conglomerate. They've essentially consumed the super hero scene now, and I think it just dilutes the name brands. But hey everyone, don't get me wrong, or think I'm being doomsdayish, I love Lego! Seriously, I sleep with a handful of bricks under my pillow for nighttime inspiration.

Hey thanks everyone! -
Hello. My name is Chris Melby. I am a 41 year old builder from Salt Lake City, Utah. I have recently migrated here from Mocpages and Flickr looking for a more advanced conversation regarding Lego and related techniques. I have my own website where I showcase my stuff. www.zmasterbrick.com I don't sell anything, it's just a high quality gallery, and I am in the process right now of doing a 6 stage detailed walkthrough of a scale truck build. I will hopefully post here as my account matures and allows me that option. Looking forward to the conversation. Chris

Regarding if Lego is dying, I think it is inevitable. They have come to rely so heavily on the Star Wars line, that the classic building style that got them where they are today (i.e. Classic Space) is fading into the sunset. I also fear the new 3D printer will drive the final nail in the coffin of brick by brick design. I mean, the younger generation will not be able to resist the appeal of simply designing and printing their favorite space ship or car or building, or fig for that matter, and honestly, who could blame them?

That hobby table saw is awesome. Have you considered painting the brick after the cut. Tame ABS primer, then a matte color works well for a color change. It helps to prep the brick with a good wash before hand too.
