  1. Interesting attempt to tackle this issue. Thanks for showing.
  2. Hi Aaron, excellent idea! What I like best is that your soultion is quite simple and does not require rare parts. Great job!
  3. Thanks for all the nice feedback which I enjoyed to read. The tree is constructed by 1x2 plates which are attached to 1x1 bricks with studs on 4 sides. The 1x1 bricks are connected to each other by a hose rigid through the top stud. This gives a rather fragile construction (although possible), thus for convenience I pushed a copper wire into the rigid hose which enables to effortlessly shape the tree as it suits best. I find this solution acceptable, although certainly many users disagree and consider adding non-lego parts a no-go. Here are some more pictures of the Maersk train in BNSF colors. The first pictures were taken before adding the decals which you can see in the last picture:
  4. Hi, I got inspired by a few pictures in this thread and decided to create a modular train tunnel section. Of course this idea sounds somewhat silly, although in reality it is not totally uncommon as the hilarious pictures in the aforementioned thread prove. However, I had fun building this piece and especially like the idea to bring my modular buildings and trains closer together. The tunnel was built on a 16*32 base plate, on top I placed a modified version of an alternative build of the official LEGO set 31065 Park Street Townhouse. The tunnel is 10 studs wide and leaves enough space for most of my rolling stock to pass through. The townhouse can be reached by stairs. In the front and the backyard I added some plants and a tree. Here you can see how it fits together with the detective office and one section of the pet shop. The train passing through the tunnel is a modified version of the Maersk train with BNSF color scheme. Some more pictures of the building: The top of the tunnel can be removed. This gives view to a small maintenance area inside the tunnel_ I hope you enjoyed these pictures. Best wishes Arnold
  5. Hi, I visited a LEGO store in Germany today and after asking about the new July model I was told by the staff that there will be no new "Pick-a-Model" models anymore. I dont know, if this is valid for all LEGO stores worldwide or just for the ones in Germany (Europe?). I was not surprised at all to hear those news because I always considered the "Pick-a-Model" system a failure. I have never bought any of the models as they were intended. In my opinion the "Pick-a-Model" price per piece ratio is quite unfavorable compared to filling a whole cup. But I will certainly miss all those interesting new pieces that were introduced to the "pick-a-brick" wall every three months.
  6. Hi, I recently bought the Lego Arctic Base set on sale and decided to build a supply unit car (although it is actually a very unrealistic idea). The unit consists of an intermodal car with two types of containers. The tank container is an improved version of the tanktainer I showed last year: http://www.eurobrick...tank +container I hope you enjoy this little build. My three-year-old daughter likes to load the container with huskies and ice bears ;) Cheers Of course the arctic base does not have its own train station. The containers will be delivered by helicopters and transported by this tracked vehicle (which is a longer version of the standard vehicle from the official Lego set).
  7. I saw a truck and a frog today in the store in Berlin. Here a picture of the truck http://stores.lego.c...a-model-72-plus Despite the 2014 date in the text in that link, this is one of the current PAM models.
  8. Today I got a big haul of black bars 4L in the Berlin store. Yay! It was the first time I have seen these on pick-a-brick.
  9. I just visited the store in Berlin and they had plenty of those panda pieces, i.e. black cheese slopes, white Jumpers and black curved ones. Yay!
  10. Hi, thanks for your kind comments. I created a LDD file (see below) and slightly revised the build and removed the valve on top because, as SavaTheAggie pointed out, it is unrealistic and prevents stacking of the containers. In the LDD file the tank and the exoskeleton are not connected because the connection between the holes in the support girder and the black rods of the tank is not possible in LDD. In fact, the whole exoskeleton is held in place only by the technic elements on top, so make sure you dont use worn out technic connectors or axles that cant provide the friction necessary. 11. Hi, recently I grabbed a lot of green pieces from the pick-a-brick wall and decided to put them to use in a tank container. The container has base dimensions of 12x6 studs and fits to the standard Lego container flat cars as used in Lego set 7939, for example. I hope you enjoy the pictures. Cheers Legopold
  12. Thanks for this interesting topic and the well described examples, djm. I might start playing around with brick built rails, too. I think this gives rails with a width of 92 LDU, which is slightly narrower than the 94 LDU you have in the original.
  13. They had 1x2 bricks in LBG today in the Lego store in Berlin, Germany. I happily filled one cup comletely with LBG 1x2. It was the first time I saw those on the wall. Probably these will show up in other stores, too?
  14. Good job on these beautiful locomotives! The modifications you applied to the design of the Maersk engine look good and the stickers are really excellent! It is very meritorious that your intention was to create an affordable "gateway" for new train AFOLs. I personally do not like the currently available 2014 City trains that much, so I really see a need for a decent train without having to pay the enormous prices of the retired sets. I assume that it will be possible to get two of your Conrail locos (including PF) for the current price of one of the retired original Maersk sets. One thing that I find a bit irritating is the color of your photos. To me your locos look more like medium blue than standard blue. I assume this is due to the lighting conditions used during the photography? Or is it just my perception or maybe my badly calibrated screen?
  15. Hi, I was not entirely happy with the medium blue version of the Maersk train, thus I tried something new. I always liked the colours of the BNSF trains and tried a new variant using orange, dark green and yellow. I started with the design of the Maersk train, built the sides of the loco with bricks instead of plates. Also, I had to redesign the back of the engine. I am quite pleased with the outcome, although there are still some minor things that could be improved.
  16. Hi, I finally managed to put the bricklinked parts together. Here is my medium blue version of the Maersk train. I am pleased with the outcome but I think the original looks better indeed, mainly because of the stickers. The big grey side plates look a bit bland without the stickers.
  17. Can anybody confirm that ministickers.nl ist still delivering orders? I sent a mail to the address kieran posted six days ago but I did not get a reply. Their website is still not working. I hope theyare going to continue their business soon.
  18. I had a closer look at the parts needed for this set and I found that two types of pieces are especially difficult to get in certain colors. One is the 6x12 tile with studs on the edges. As already mentioned, this tile is not available in green. In addition, the 1x4x2 windows are not available in many colors and green is not among them. Interestingly, there are two sellers at bricklink that offer these windows for insane prices, although these windows have not been used in any set yet. In conclusion, I decided not to build the green version of the Maersk train. Instead, I ordered some medium blue parts along with some other missing parts. I plan to stick closely to the original Maersk color scheme but I am going to exchange all Maersk blue parts with medium blue parts because colors are quite similar and I already have lots of medium blue parts. I am going to post pictures as soon as I have built the train.
  19. Thanks for showing your yellow version of the Maersk train ScotNick. I like it a lot. I just noticed that green 6x12 tiles with studs were used for the green Maersk train shown in the first post. As far as I know, these tiles have never appeared in any set in that colour. They are also not for sale on bricklink. Seems that the Lego designer had access to some nice additional parts.
  20. Sounds great, Dan-147. Looking forward to see pictures of the Canadian style train.
  21. Hello, the user L@go recently shared pictures from the Lego World. In one of them a Maersk train in green color scheme is shown: https://www.flickr.c...go/16329475100/ I wonder if anybody ever tried to build it in further color variations? I am particularly interested in cheaper variants because I think about bricklinking that train and I dont care so much to have it in the original azure color scheme. It is a shame that I was too late to get the original Lego Maersk train. Edit: Attached a cropped image of the green maersk train:
