LEGO Collectable Minifigures Future Series Rumours
Karalora replied to r4-g9's topic in Special LEGO Themes
The main concern, when it comes to children viewing fictional acts of violence, is imitability--i.e. what happens when Junior acts out what they see, using the most suitable props they can find? The more fanciful the weapons, the less likely it is that a child will use real weapons in their imitative play. If a kid wants to play lightsaber-battle, they will probably use a (mostly) harmless toy lightsaber or, failing that, a stick from the backyard. Real lightsabers don't exist, so there's no risk of anyone getting their arm cut off. If that same kid wants to play medieval knights, there might be a real (and dangerous) sword in their home, but it's improbable because not many people buy real swords. But suppose the kid wants to play...James Bond? Now we're entering the danger zone, because Bond's weapon of choice (a modern handgun) is much more likely to be accessible to a child than any fictional or archaic weapon. Likewise, contact martial arts are considered "more violent" than, for instance, magic spells, even if the spells are more deadly in the fiction. No one is going to be injured if two children stand 10 feet apart and pretend to shoot lightning from their fingertips at each other. -

Bringing this back because it occurs to me that we can now add the ocarina to the list of woodwinds thanks to the Zelda set. -

Maybe it's being called a CMF line because it's being handled by the same division? Because of the small blind-box packages? -
It can be difficult to prove whether someone did something stupid because they were stupid, or because they thought they were using a product as directed...unless there are great big warning labels telling people what not to do.
-
It's not about stopping people from doing stupid stuff that gets them hurt/killed. It's about protecting the company from liability when people do stupid stuff that gets them hurt/killed.

I often see English/Spanish/French so the same packaging can be used in the entirety of North America.

If it's a dialectical thing then I can't fault it.

Someday...maybe not this year, but some day...I will build an earthbound Winter Village and a fantasy one, and connect them through a wintry forest. Someday...

Just one udder, surely? I see people referring to "a cow's udders" from time to time and I wonder how people got the impression that it was plural.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 27. Rumors and discussion
Karalora replied to Robert8's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Dark Phoenix is an X-Men character. The concept does not exist in traditional mythology and folklore. More to the point...dark or normal, for a phoenix to appear as a CMF accessory, there needs to be a CMF that it goes with. Do you have one in mind? -

Fairies work better as minifigures themselves (which is why we got one as a CMF). Ditto the dark elf, and possibly the gremlin (though it might be cute to include one with a pilot minifigure). The phoenix...well, we did get one with a CMF, didn't we? Just a licensed one. Most of the others are either semi-obscure/not instantly recognizable, or don't have a "natural" minifig archetype to accompany, or would look odd if made small enough. All I'm saying is, I see why we haven't gotten much of a mythical menagerie in the CMFs. You know what could work? A jackalope. We could get some kind of Old West storyteller with a jackalope. -

How many well-known fantasy creatures are there that are both a) small enough to be included as a minifigure accessory and b) worth depicting that way rather than as (out of scale) minifigures in their own right? All I'm coming up with, first thing in the morning, are baby creatures--baby dragon (which we have a few versions of in LEGO by now), baby unicorn, baby pegasus, baby griffin, etc. And while any of those would be delightful as a CMF accessory, licensed or otherwise, there would also need to be an archetype-related reason to use them because of how CMFs work. What fantasy character is there for whom the obvious accessory would be, for instance, a baby unicorn? -

That's odd--I would have thought the Dwarf Barbarian's axe and Half-Elf Bard's new printed lute would be big draws. -

What even is a "male" hairpiece? Everyone here knows women can have short hair too, right? (And men can have long hair, though it's much less common...and even less so for men with long hair to style it the same way a woman might. But short hair is pretty universal.) -
LEGO is considering abandoning physical instructions
Karalora replied to danth's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I'm against it. When you buy a LEGO set, everything you need to put it together should be inside the box. Lest we forget, these are primarily toys for children, who aren't all going to be adroit enough with an electronic device to follow instructions that way. -

I think they must have based her on the Ray Harryhausen creation from the original Clash of the Titans film in the 80s: -

An intriguing list! The only one that lacks potential (of the sort I like) is the Longboarder, since I assume even the Cat Lover will be accompanied by one or more cats, perhaps with new colors/prints. Astronomer Kid might have a cool star chart tile. -

I've seen weddings where the groom wore an all-white tux to match the bride; that + a good accessory would justify the figure. -
Clearly the idea was that this way we could get the characters in their real-world "civvie" identities, whereas their powered-up Dream World identities are found in the sets.

Should LEGO become publicly-held in 2032?
Karalora replied to Callum Precious's topic in General LEGO Discussion
It would be a disaster for LEGO to go public. The company would become beholden to shareholders and shareholders alone, operated solely for the purpose of increasing profits. This would result in a nosedive in quality (because quality costs), product diversity (why experiment when you can just ID the single most profitable product line and focus exclusively on that), customer service, and every other thing we value about LEGO. -
Have you ever found Lego pieces outdoors?

I have a Spider-Man minifigure I found in an alley, in shockingly good condition for having been left on the ground for any length of time. -
Maybe someone (hey! We're someone!) should organize a charity that supplies genuine LEGO bricks to poor children. Got inventory on BL you're having trouble selling? Donate it!

I like them to be built enough to be poseable, but I find a bit of an uncanny valley effect when there's a scene with minifigures and "animals" that look about as animate as a mailbox.
