  1. The Cowardly Lion has a very distinctive look to his mane that wouldn't work for a more generic lion costume. Anyway, I decided to tally up the existing animal costumes from CMF and BAM by category, counting species only, not color variations: Mammals Bear (more of a teddy bear suit than a "real" bear costume) Bunny Cat Dog (pug) Elephant Fox Giraffe Gorilla Llama Panda Pig Raccoon Tiger Wolf Birds Chicken Penguin Turkey Reptiles Lizard/Godzilla T. rex Triceratops Fish Shark Bugs Bee Butterfly Ladybug Spider Mythical Dragon Unicorn (And then there's that recent BAM figure that I think is supposed to actually be an anthro unicorn, not a costume.) Did I miss any?
  2. That's a specific character; I think we're envisioning more of a generic minifigure generically dressed as a lion.
  3. Indeed. A lion hood mold already exists (from one of the Harry Potter CMF series).
  4. A snake costume would be funny with a unique "armless" torso and a facial expression suggesting that the minifig is just discovering the downsides of an armless costume.
  5. I was mostly kidding about the goat (see what I did there?). Peacock is a good choice. I'd also like to see lion, frog, horse and/or zebra, maybe Chinese dragon (with the whiskers)...
  6. September of this year is what's currently being said.
  7. Not just the visual style, but the content and the serialization at a time when it was almost unheard of for Western cartoons to be serialized rather than purely episodic. The first time I randomly caught an episode (never having heard of it before), I would have sworn it was actual anime, produced in Japan. We used to call it "American anime," intended as high praise. Insofar as anime is defined as animation produced in Japan, for a Japanese audience...ATLA is not anime. But if you're wondering about the suitability of anime for LEGO sets, style and content are probably more relevant than mere country of origin, and in fact they have made sets for a show that is disqualified from being anime only due to country of origin.
  8. Depends on if you think ATLA counts as anime, I guess.
  9. I'd read it. Just saying.
  10. I imagine a lot of the piece count is the alternate foliage (green leaves vs, pink blossoms) depending on which version you build.
  11. This, and furthermore it might not even be the same people with penultimate decision-making power regarding every IP.
  12. It's pretty far past what you'd expect based on the piece count. I'm wondering whether the license itself was unusually expensive for TLG to acquire. That would explain why it has taken so long.
  13. I'm wondering how easy it will be to convert the young Link into a more grown green-clad Link by swapping out parts. Presumably the BotW Link's face will be fit for purpose, but the legs might be trickier.
  14. Oh, for sure. After as long as we've waited and as hard as we've pleaded, getting just one set which is out of budget for half the fans feels almost insulting. To be fair to TLG, I think the biggest obstacle is probably Nintendo's notorious reluctance to let third parties mess around with their trademarked IP. But the second biggest obstacle would be deciding which pieces of the trademarked IP to brickify, because oh my goodness is there a lot of Legend of Zelda on the table. It's not like Mario, which is visually pretty consistent from one game to the next and doesn't rely too heavily on intricate "lore." With Zelda, A Link to the Past is not Twilight Princess is not Wind Waker is not Tears of the Kingdom, and you can't give full detailed representation to all of them, and you can't pick just one because then fans of the others will feel left out... It's a right pickle. But I still hope we get more.
  15. I almost literally started hyperventilating. I have been CRAVING this ever since the rumor first dropped. $300? Ouch, but I can budget for it. Seeing the winces in this thread, maybe we should start a GoFundMe for the poor souls who will otherwise be deprived! (I'm only half-joking)
  16. Someone noted that it looked like Deku Babas were included in the OoT version of the build. Something a little spicier would be nice though.
  17. I like the pirate and the fairy wings. The knight I already have. The LNY top is cool although I'm not sure it really goes with those legs; it looks like it's supposed to be the upper half of a cheongsam dress so I would pair it with a skirt piece. I might like the punk jeans once I have a chance to examine them closeup.
  18. Also, if the objection is that pre-modern people didn't have access to hair dye...you might be surprised. People have been dyeing their hair as long as they have been dyeing cloth, often with the same pigments.
  19. I get people having specific tastes in CMFs. I do myself. What I don't get are people acting like any CMF which doesn't meet those specific tastes is a "waste" and shouldn't have been made. Not everything is about you, you know?
  20. I accepted a long time ago that not every figure in every CMF wave is going to be to my personal taste. Would I be happy if they made waves consisting only of fantasy characters, historical and cultural costumes, and holiday-related concepts? Sure. But they ain't gonna! The plain City figures don't do much for me, and sports figures even less so. But I know others like them, and that I am not the sole target market for these, and I just...deal with it? It's really weird to me to see grown-a** AFOLs bellyaching that LEGO makes CMFs which they, personally, have no use for or interest in.
  21. I wouldn't assume, in this scenario, that the sets themselves would be based specifically on the movie, just that they would be timed for synergy with it. The movie is going to give LoZ a big recognition push in the public eye and we can probably expect all kinds of merch, both pertaining directly to the movie and for the franchise as a whole. (And honestly I'm not too fussed about it being live-action to begin with, but that's another discussion, not related to LEGO per se.)
  22. I keep trying not to have this dread that they're not going to do it after all, possibly because they're angry about the leak. On the other hand, as I mentioned earlier in the thread, there is a Zelda movie in the works, so maybe any LEGO tie-ins are being coordinated with that. This would likely mean release wouldn't be for a few years yet, depending on how far along the film development is and the details of the production.
  23. I clicked on this not knowing what to expect, but it sure wasn't this! Thanks for the laugh!
