Got a box of Lego to sort!
GovBroadsword replied to GovBroadsword's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Hi all Sorry I've been away. Just very busy with work - no time to play. I placed a brick order yesterday and I've managed to build a few small sets today. The bricks I have left are diminishing and there are some clearly some random parts in there for some reason but there are still a good few sets left. This really is the box that keeps on giving! Can't post today's sets as I think Brickshelf is down. I'll try before bed then tomorrow. Btw - Love those sets above - especially the pirates. I love pirates. I suspect most of what has come out of this box will be of little interest to anyone. I'll probably just use the bricks. I'll also post the hats. But on closer look I think they are just standard brim hats - not JT specific. Sorry to have got people excited. Never been familiar with JT -

I must have at least a dozen sets left. Plenty of big ones. They are proving harder to collect all the bits and there are some I definitely don't have. I see its the double points I've been waiting for online so I'll order the Brick Bank plus as many spare parts as I can that I know I'm missing so far. Managed to find the last remaining bits for this one: 4920 - Rapid Rider Identified due to the unique green printed sloping piece on the front. Bit of a bobbins set IMO Just noticed I forgot to include the brown 'egg' thingy in the picture - but I have it. -

Can't believe others are having fun following. When I first posted I thought it would be just me. Really please people are enjoying this and thank you for letting me know. As it goes, when I came out of my dark ages, I bought an even bigger eBay box. It had loads of instructions but not for many sets that are in there - and the bricks for loads of sets I have instructions for aren't in there. I don't know what happened. Anyway, I still have all the bricks from that lot separate (these 2 buys comprise 99% of the Lego I own!) as I was trying to build everything up and see what I had. I haven't touched it for ages but could make better progress now I know more about Bricklink etc. Anyway, got to finish this one first. This set is the first complete Technic set I've found and built. There are others. Identified as the central white piece is quite rare in white - this was the only option that looked viable. Btw - I have about a dozen of this type and colour of wheel and not sure what they belong to yet! 8810 - Alpha Rider I quite like it - especially the rear suspension feature. 7956 - Ewok Attack Just missing the lances for the front of the scooter and the ladder for the treehouse. I've never seen Star Wars so can't like it or comment on that level - but I think this is a great little treehouse with loads of play value due to the number of ways it can be defended. There is a catapult, a spear that can be stuck out, logs that can be rolled down and a sliding wooden bar thingy. It also hinges outwards so there is almost an inside to it. I like it. -

Thank you to everyone for your comments. I'm glad people are finding this fun. I am too. I didn't realise how much as in this box - it's turned out to be a bargain. I've managed to get 2 more sets out recently and others aren't far off. There will still be a good few to come. As the remaining pieces in the mix reduce, it's easier to have an educated guess at what sets are in there when you pick out a piece that was used in (say) 5 - 10 sets. That was mainly how I got these 2 out. 5918 - Scorpion Tracker As I've said before, I like this Egypt theme. Very Tintin/1930s Tutenkamun-esque! I like this car - simple but cute. I like how the map slides perfectly into the recess in the piece. Even if the piece is a bit of a cheat! I managed to find the correct head this time. Makes me think the other one I need might be in there somewhere. No hat again though. I have no brown JT hats but I think I have the correct number of grey versions. Did he come with a grey hat in the UK perhaps? 6813 - Galactic Chief Not really a lot to say about this is there? Just is. Identified due to that block piece the black jets clip onto. -

Another from the Egypt theme. 5928 - The Bi-wing Baron I quite like this. It's a neat little plane - a satisfying size and shape. I like the detail behind the propellor Identified due to the large grey base section. Oddly enough I have another one but nothing like the parts to build the other sets it comes in -

Now all the image issues are sorted, here are a couple of sets I got out last night: 6773: Alpha Team Helicopter. Quite a nice heli. The original builder messed up putting the stickers on the wings - one is on the underneath and one is on top! 2 Arctic sets: 6814 Ice Tunnelator and 6579 Ice Surfer - missing a couple of bits including (vitally!) the sail! The guy in his green parka is quite cute, otherwise nothing much to say or get excited with about these sets Should be able to post another set in a bit as not many more pieces to find :) -

Really? I've just looked at the files and they all are small in both pixels and size. I used a resizing utility. Please let me know which are wrong and why and I'll correct but at the moment I don't understand. Cheers I got some more sets out last night that I'd like to post up but I only want to be doing it once! :) -

Help with identifying parts/sets!
GovBroadsword replied to WhiteFang's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Hi I bought a big box of Lego that came with no instructions. I'm working my way through identifying sets from rare parts. For the parts shown, I can't find a number of it that would enable me to do a search on Bricklink. For the assemblies, they may be the last owner's design but I suspect some are from sets Thanks for any help. Larger res image available on my Brickshelf page if needed. Lightning piece - Unique surely - but even googling I can't find the transfer number The cart - I thought looked like a Castle one I had as a kid but the yellow round bits don't fit. There is some old castle in the box as there are a couple of red Crusaders in there. The blue technic assembly - I think there is a small blue technic set in the box http://www.brickshel...x/parts-lrg.jpg -

Sorry - hadn't realised I was breaking a rule. Have resized so hopefully its now ok. I said watch this SPACE. I built 6959 Lunar Launch Site this morning. A fine set. Has a little buggy, a flying thing, and a mountain that slides opens to reveal a rocket you can launch! I'm missing a few blue neon pieces but nothing I can't live without or easily replace Re the technic set - I'd like to build it but I'm missing some key pieces - including a large wheel. It definitely isn't in the box as you can't miss it. I'm logging any missing pieces and when I next buy something from Lego I'll order as many as I can. -

Thanks for your support. I have 99% of the parts for a big set. I think the other 1% aren't in the mess so I may as well get it built. Going to put on a pot of tea this weekend and get it built. Watch this space! :) -

Hi VintageLegoEra - Glad you like it! Managing to get out 7131 - Anakin's Podracer out during the week. Identified due to the logo on the front slope and the fact I had a load of those yellow things clipped into grey hinges. I'm missing one of the hooks for the R2D2 thingy. I have various hoses but I think they might be for Technic rather than this so I'll see if I can add them later. I have no idea about Star Wars - I've never seen it. But this set seems long and gangly and a bit rubbish to me. I think there are better Lego flying thingys around. Anyway...here it is! -

Got two little sets out, both 100% complete - 6431: Road Rescue - Identifed as only 2 sets have the front sloping brick with "RES Q" printed on it. I don't think I have the other RES Q set, though I do have another one of those sloping bricks. - 6521: Emergency Repair Truck - a very old set and it shows in the bricks. Identified as the highway panels are unique to it. I'm not far off finding all the bits for some larger sets so hope to get those built and up here soon! -

Got another couple of sets out. Both from the Aquazone theme. This wasn't intentional - just the sets that some unique bricks that I looked up happened to be from. 6145 - Crystal Crawler - just missing the minifigure head 6115 - Shark Scout - complete! -

I was a bit unsure on the heads but even after another look I can't find the correct one. Maybe he'll turn up as more sets get built. Thanks for pointing it out - I am a stickler for these things and would like the sets to be correct! -

Got another one built! 5919 - Valley of the Kings Just missing a skeleton leg and a hat. (Edit (28/2) - the skeleton leg turned up - it was in the box of tiny items that I must have dug through a thousand times but only spotted it today!) I quite like this Egypt theme. Next might be Ninjago - I have quite a few white bricks with "Turbo" written on them - is that where they are from? Or some car/city/racing sets? -

It's kind of therapeutic. I don't even have the advantage of knowing which sets are in there! When I was a kid, my dad got this big bank of clear plastic drawers. They were a shop display stand that someone he did some work for was throwing out. Must have been 5' tall x 4' wide min. The dividers were fixed but set at increasingly larger compartment sizes from top to bottom. This was the perfect solution to that problem. Now I'm out the dark ages, I need something similar again! -

Hi I have about 95% of quite a few sets so will be able to start building more soon I hope. Managed to get this one - 5938 - oasis ambush out today. The 2 side panels are unique to this set which enabled me to identify it. Missing a hat and pistol but sure they will turn up sooner or later! -

Got the first set out of this mass of bits! 6270 - Forbidden Island http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/GovBroadsword/LegoBox/6270_-_forbidden_island.jpg -
Got a big box from eBay. It had talked about there being pirate sets (which were my favourite in the 90s as a kid - I sold them as a teenager) in there and I could see lots of pieces for the governors big fort, the pirate island/treehouse thingy and the clipper. That had me interested but there were a couple of ship hulls too, plenty figs etc. Turns out there is quite a bit more in there. I thing a load of space, some old castle, at least 1 big technic vehicle and poss a small Harry Potter and Indiana Jones set - judging by the transfers. So far, I've been through it all on some level - picked out the megabloks - separated out small pieces, figs, transfers, sunlight faded pieces and given them all a bath. Sunlight pieces now outside - never done a soak for these before so see how it goes! Now I have some fun times ahead picking through the box seeing what I can build. No instructions came with it so I will have to largely guess what sets might be in there. I'm going to start with the big pirate sets for lots of reasons then probably look up that Space base and the ship hulls - and just keep going! For a bit of fun, I'm going to put some pictures of my progress up here. No one has to read along if it's boring! For me it will be fun to chart what sets come out of this lot: http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/GovBroadsword/LegoBox/box_of_bits.jpg

So you can. Thanks for the tip. Of course, the torsos are sold out now! Argh!
-
Excuse my ignorance. I haven't used B and P before. A question to those buying imperial soldier torsos. Lego don't appear to be selling the hats separately. What are you planning to do for their headgear? Use a tricorn or hair piece? Or were the hats being sold but now are out of stock? I'm asking as Id love to get a little army together. Thanks for any pointers!
