  1. How about train specific theme? Grain elevators, platforms, shed, and many things around a pre-existing train tracks.
  2. LDD Manager can warn you of rare color or nonexistent color. After you import a model in and while you're on part summary tab, you'll see a column under color warning. There's also a checkbox for show only color warnings. See SS below:
  3. Looks great, and the tile could double as a jumper tile too. Unlike the 2x2 tile with 1 stud, the hex tile with 2 studs would work quite well.
  4. Not a bug but a nitpick. LEGO released new colors with this year's sets including olive green for dinosaur models and 3x4 leaf element. New colors are not in LDD at this time. (new parts aren't there either )
  5. Little update: Added vegetation. LDD doesn't consider some of them to be flexible so I wasn't able to make it look good but I'll fill it out more. Also added the broken remains just for looks, a black hole, and a gossip stone, although I don't like how it looks I might change it. The black hole can be found by using song of the storm. I removed the masonry profiled bricks but I hadn't added regular bricks yet so there's empty space against the back support. Lastly: the closeup detailed image of the hexagon platform: by using headlight bricks and a whole lotta snotting, I am able to get 1/2 bricks offset needed to make all the cheese slope line up smoothly on the edge and still look right. It's why I can't integrate tri-force symbol. I'll probably just cheat and print out a label Any more suggestion or ideas?
  6. They do: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=11203 Just released and it's selling like hotcakes so it may be hard to get a hold of them other than buying up sets and taking the tiles out.
  7. I do know that on an average of mixed LEGO (no cherry picking, no DUPLO, no clones, and no non-LEGO junk) is around 325 pieces per pound. Did the 10 pound you weighted include the weight of LEGO bin? 10 pounds without the weight of a tub should be over 3,000 pieces.
  8. Bogus UPC aside, there are other thefts. Few days ago evening I was at Toys R Us looking at the new LEGO Monsters set, and to get The Werewolf 9463 for a hair under $19 (sale, regular price $20, Toys R Us regular price $25) And I went looking around for sale stuff (one ripped to heck Atlantis set which I left behind) and video games. I did find something disturbing: Swamp Creature 9461 all piled in with action figure aisle. All boxes with instruction, no LEGO pieces. Someone took around 30 of these sets to a different area, opened it all, stole all the LEGO pieces out, and left without paying. 30* $7 each = loss of $210 I got a hold of the manager, and showed her the mess. Fortunately for me I knew the store security better than the thief, there are several security camera including 2 watching LEGO isles and whoever moved it would have shown up in security tape hauling arm loads (or pushing cart full) of those LEGO sets to another area, and leaving the store without any visible LEGO sets. I bet a large bag or backpack is involved. Unless the person is a master of disguise, he/she won't be able to come back to the store unnoticed at all. This person will likely be watched very closely next time and be stopped if he/she touched LEGO and then tries to leave the store with no LEGO. No way of knowing if the thief are on Bricklink or just selling on eBay, there are too many local sellers on both for me to guess who did it.
  9. Why not limit all connection to valid 90 degree connection, no stud in tube (since you'd have to tip the brick to make it fit), and see how many valid combination can you get out of it?
  10. Add to it no protection from sellers. Shifty buyers can always claim SNAD, and send empty box or rocks back while keeping freebies. And shifty buyers who buys a lot all on CC, then file claim through CC claiming it was stolen or abused. I was a victim of CC fraud a couple years ago. 100's of sellers, stuff totaling over $15,000 were ripped off. Even though I bought shipping label through PP (and thus they had tracking #), and it was delivered a few days after seller paid, I was out almost $80. What's worst, we weren't able to leave the buyers any negs at all. I did look up the buyer's address, the name listed there didn't match the name I sent to, Google map showed what looked like derelict house waiting for demo, and the name I looked at were in the same city. I think the buyer used an address that belonged to an empty house, collected all the packages, and since no one lives at the old house it would have been harder to notice anything until it was too late. No idea if the buyer's still around as he/she changed user ID shortly after the scam. I hope the CC company finds out and busted the scamming buyer to spend the next 50 years with a new cell buddy named Bubba.
  11. The whole platform is made with cheese slopes and headlight bricks to get half plate offset, it won't be easy to integrate the triforce symbol in the middle without breaking up the large hexagon shape. This is what I used for reference: Already noticed and fixed. The edge is made with cheese slope, detail in the link above I tried that early on but it wouldn't form a good true hexagon shape since none of the plate comes in at 60 degree angle. The base will be covered with various shades of green vegetation. I have several 6x5 limbs and 3x4 limbs (including the new olive green) plus some 3 leaves plant, flower stems (without flowers), and 2x2 prickly bush So back to bland wall then. Still thinking of replacing masonry bricks with regular 1x1 and 1x2's to cut cost.
  12. I am doing proof of concept in LDD, and I will be building actual project with real LEGO when all is done and I get wanted list done. Anyway, the first one is a scene in Sacred Meadow where Saria waits for Link to show up. source of the image. I also used this one: 2016x1191 image for the detailing on the wall (slopes, ridges) as well as general location of plants on the wall. What I got so far I'm going to get rid of the right side wall after all, it'd be easier to photograph without all the walls. Also the tree is ugly because LDD won't let me build the tree the way I wanted. I wanted to build it like this tree but LDD doesn't let me rotate the log bricks at all. LDD seems to treat the log brick with the same physical dimension of a regular 1x2 bricks, lazy design I guess. No Triforce symbol on the hexagon platform, I haven't figured it out as LEGO didn't make any triangle pieces bigger than approx. 2x2 road sign part. It's only a basic layout (matches Nintendo original model), I plan to fill out with vegetation and broken remains of the stairs and I'd like some comment on the wall. Initially I used the masonry profile bricks but I think it might look better if I used regular 1x1 and 1x2 bricks (mixed with various grey) instead of masonry? It'd be a lot cheaper, about 20 to 25 cents per 1x2 masonry brick Also the tan/brown wall seems a bit drab. Any idea to spiff it up? Thanks for any C&C
  13. I was there a year ago and took quite a lot of pictures: I didn't have a great camera back then :( and Niagara Fall is about 6 hours drive from me, a bit expensive trip just to get better pictures.
  14. Great tree design!! And the micro sized ships are cute as well! There are 2 completely different versions of Avatar that have absolutely no connection to each other. The Last Airbender is one, originally based on Japanese manga and anime, and has been around for many years. LEGO did a series a couple years ago when The Last Airbender came to the movie. The other version is a sci-fi version taking place on another world dominated by giant blue humanoid. It came out a few years before The Last Airbender movie and dominated the box office chart for months. LEGO never did a series on this.
  15. Hee hee done in a couple hours, initial image at 4000x3000 with no AA, all bevel (not just visible), and no background. I'll have to look at them. One of my moc with about 1,000 pieces took almost 8 hours to do on my main. transparency can reduce even the best machine to a crawl and one of my moc had a lot. Anyway here's MF with galaxy in the background: 1420x1140 image Looks kind of close to end of Ep5 when Lando and Chewie left to look for Jabba so they could rescue Hans.
  16. I'd like to point out the rendering time can vary depending on the computer. Computers with more CPU or cores will do better. With dual XEON CPUs (both 6 cores + 6 hyperthread cores) I have up to 24 processes available. A run of the mill Walmart computer may take as much as half a day to do the same render. I'm itching to try that. 10179 Millennium Falcon maybe? EDIT: loaded http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=41226&view=findpost&p=797007, removed parts, fixed the top a bit to be lower, removed the boat mast on the rear (can't be bent anyway and converter doesn't handle flexible data), and now working on 4000x3000 render, no AA. I also found a galaxy background to use if nothing goes wrong.
  17. 10221 at 800x600 with 0.3AA, took about 30 minutes to load and calculate individual parts and 50 minutes for rendering. Rendering is a lot faster with AA off though and I'll probably stick to higher res, non AA'd as explained above.
  18. Nice that can work. Not perfect but a start, and better than plates. Now to figure out about making tri-force symbol in the middle without using sticker. Not surprising the one on flickr is for Settlers of Catan, there's been quite a lot of LEGO version of this around lately. And yes I have played the game.
  19. I want an option to completely disables F1 help. On most keyboard, F1 and escape key are right next to each other and I am tired of having to close browser window and switch back to LDD because my finger was off by about 1cm. If it can't be disabled, I'd like the option to reassign it to a different key requiring 4 fingers to activate.
  20. Try using AA. There is a drop down menu below File and Edit menu that offers various resolution sizes, select one with AA. Otherwise you'd get jaggies.
  21. I wanted to build a few Zelda related projects, and I am using LDD mainly to get part count and more before I go buying parts. I am currently trying to make the Sacred meadow scene where Link finds Saria after going through the lost woods. is what I am having a bit of trouble with, Image (LDD Screenshot) is what I got so far but I think it could be done better.LEGO never built any plates around 30 degree angles, and LDD doesn't play nice with cheese slopes going sideway for decorative use like stained glass windows. LXF file if you want to try and improve it. TIA anything you can offer.
  22. I wanted to build a tree like this: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=53197&view=findpost&p=1314516 But LDD doesn't allow log brick to get rotated, as if it has the same dimension of a standard 1x2 bricks. Perhaps a bit of collision? Perhaps someone at LEGO can check in the data and see if the collision boundary matches the actual shape of the log brick or not. It's also possible that it's illegal.
  23. I am still having issue getting POV_Ray to work on my laptop but when I tried my main computer, it worked the first time. Took my rig about 4 hours to do a 1600X1200, 0.3AA render of Super Star Destroyer (over 3,000 pieces), and yes having more cores or CPU does make a difference in the rendering stage. My main has dual Intel 5650 XEON, which shows up as a total of 24 processes. (in hindsight, quad optron would have been cheaper) I did find an oddity, which is likely caused by not translating flexible item from LDD to POV. from LDD, looks all OK... But from POV shows a couple oddities likely caused by 3mm hose.
  24. Maybe my project was too complex? I grabbed a simplier version, a mini Star Destroyer and it's running now. The complex version I tried can't be re-opened with LDD without having some 20 or parts removed due to illegal connection. :/ I'll try this on my main computer (dual Intel 5650 XEON CPU), with multi-core support rendering with POV-Ray 3.7 should go by very fast. Right now it's been shut down for a few days, with heat wave hitting 100°F and the heat my rig puts out when doing full work can raise my room temp to over 150 in minutes.
  25. Didn't know that feather came in green. ;)
