  1. Looking through all the City years on Bricklink, I suspect City had its peak in 2010, when it actually included a family house and a private car. Since then, I suspect Friends has taken much of the market for everyday play, and Creator the market for enthusiastic builders. City has learned more towards 'boy's' action oriented play, though Friends also appears to be adding some action and adventure lately. That said, as a KFOL my own play could be action oriented. One of my favourite games was 'crashing' lego planes by simply dropping them! I later 'crash tested' cars with a non-lego catapult (judging them by how loose the minifig came). I have a few cracked elements. The difference back then was, Classic Town only provided the material, not the exact scenarios. For instance, I hate all the uniformed crooks! Why can't the crook wear something different, like no paaaaaaants!
  2. ^I'm over 30. But I started out as a KFOL! I hope lego can still give my niece and nephew what it gave me. City is actually by far the oldest lego line there is, with the 1955 town plan predating even stud and tube bricks! Interesting that you mention TFOLs. I tried to be a TFOL, but that was during the crisis which started with Town Jr, then tried to replace Town the ridiculous Jack Stone playsets. I was relieved to see the return to form in the early City sets I saw on the shelves, but I only returned to collecting after seeing The Lego Movie. Why do you think some of the 2006 - 2009 City sets won't appeal to kids?
  3. City is very much for children. Always has been, always should be. It is the basis of the Lego system of play. This is exactly how I like it. If it isn't for children, it isn't for me either. That said, I notice they have just dropped the upper age range on the boxes. Merry Christmas.
  4. I can't see any of the earlier pictures, only the later ones.
  5. It's £44.99 in Britain. I wonder, would it have been cheaper if they used smaller vehicles? I mean the surf van is bigger than some Great Vehicles, and also an odd design, particularly with that fake roller shutter.
  6. Check out this 1980something British Rail ad: [media]
  7. Interesting. When the set of smaller tools appeared in the mid 90s, I thought it would replace the old, large spanner. In fact, the 70s design spanner seems to be more common today.
  8. I mean, build it like a fire station, with rapid response vehicles on standby in dedicated garages, but for the police.
  9. I wonder if the typical lego police station really owes more to real life fire stations, for greater play value.
  10. I had spotted the resemblance to the Classic Town sets. In fact, this new motorsport wave strongly reminds me of Classic Town, particularly the 1993 - 1996 era. That said, note how the older set is smaller, with only three vehicles and three figures. If the new one was reduced to the shop, two cars and a bike (with the tow truck available separately), would it be more affordable?
  11. Grand Theft Auto. Nothing to do with the notorious game franchise, but a 1977 car caper, directed by and starring a young Ron Howard. When he and a girl elope in a Rolls Royce, it degenerates into a massive car chase, followed by a demolition derby. None of the cars involved survive!
  12. If they remove products that don't match their 'corporate image,' would that mean banning some of their own older products?
  13. I thought that would be the case.
  14. That kind of thing has happened in LCA! Actually, I quite like Duke's new car. It's a good likeness of a Ford Mustang, but on a small scale, which won't look too overscale next to four-wides. My other highlights include the new vintage motorcycle body, the helicopter cockpit canopy (IF it can be attached to my non-flying MOCs) and the introduction of two-in-one boxes - and also the small monster truck and big ice cream van (Lego knows where a kid's priorities would lie). Non of them, however, can compare to Creator's unbelievable, super cool, outrageous, and amazing Burger Monster Truck!
  15. That burger monster truck is certainly the most unbelievable, super cool, outrageous, and amazing set announced so far!
  16. You certainly have an original house style. Very American. What was your real world inspiration?
  17. All names are taken from the TV series 'Lego City Adventures.'
  18. The wheels have been getting bigger for a while. I think it started in 1997 with Town JR, with even the small cars given what were then truck size wheels.
  19. I saw what looked like an ice cream van in Lego City Adventures. It used the post 2013, rounded front design used on the 2017 pizza van. To be honest, I was genuinely surprised they were doing an ice cream van. Their last one would be a tough act to follow!
  20. Airing in the UK on Nicktoons, in about five minutes!
  21. The Big Bus. It's on Amazon Prime in the UK, but watch out, he's got a broken milk carton!
  22. 6660 Hook n haul wrecker, with its working suspension and (most importantly) its accessible engine. Discovered it at school back in '93. Really opened my eyes to what Lego could do. When I MOC or MOD a vehicle, I usually start with the engine.
  23. I've just been to Canada. Thought I would buy Duke Caboom there.
