This really made me laugh out loud! I'm just a bit concerned about his tooth hygiene, though ;-)- 29 replies

[TC5] Old Racecar
5imon replied to kennywest's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Cool! Not a lot of functions, but the shapes are perfect. It really captures the spirit of '30s racecars perfectly, and this with very simple means. Bravo! -
Technic Parts You Never Use
5imon replied to DrJB's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I just bought two of those connectors because I was buying in this store anyway and I saw them for the first time (I'm not much into Bionicle and SW). The future will show what they're useful for – or if I'll post them in this thread again ;-) -
[MOC] Amsterdam Drawbridge
5imon replied to 5imon's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Thanks for your replies! Unfortunately, I didn't take a video when I made the bridge. And since it has been disassembled a long time ago, there won't be any. However, I think it should be very easy to reconstruct, so whoever wants to see it moving can build their own ;-) Sorry, no instructions or LDD files available... -
Erelender, I like your Idea – kind of. But I'd rather have the stackable motors just with clever attachment points instead of fake cylinders. This way I can attach whatever I want on them. Parts looking like cylinders, as many as I wish and in any configuration, parts looking like Wankel engine, parts looking like anything I want...

For me also it seems to make little sense. Of course, I have also wished some times to be able to integrate a fake engine and a motor with using less space, but it seems that combining the two would give too little flexibility. Think of all the different configurations an engine can have (in-line, V, boxer, number of cylinders etc.). This would be lost when there would be a "<insert that tiresome argument>" part from TLG. As milan said, I like my building elements smooth and compact, if I want, I can add further functionality by my own.

As part of my new member introduction, I'd like to present you some of my MOCs I have made over the past 5 years. Of course they are all long destroyed and have made place for new constructions. First is a MOC that dates back from early 2010 and represents a drawbridge. The inspiration came from this gem I photographed on a trip to Amsterdam: I liked very much how lightly this bridge is constructed with its lattice structures and guyed pillars. Of course I tried to stay very close to this aspect. With the counterweight on top, it was easy to motorize the lifting roadway without putting any strain on the motor and transmission. This is how it turned out: And how it looks in opened state: The transmission is very simple and made with the few elements I had at the time. Most important was a high reduction, so I used 2 x worm screw / 8T gear and finally 8T / 24T, resulting in a total reduction of 1:192. The lifting velocity was quite realistic with this setup (ca. 10–15 seconds). I hope our fans of non-wheeled Technic like this MOC!

[TC5] Road Roller
5imon replied to Tamas Juhasz's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Looking at the pic of the real thing, I think I found out what irritated me a bit about the proportions. In the original, the roll and the cabin are much bigger, so there is almost no gap between them. When both are smaller, this gap made the front part look "empty" to me. But hey, please don't take this as an offence, I could hardly imagine doing it differently with the available parts. Anyway the roll could never be bigger than the rear wheels in a model made of 8264 parts.- 17 replies

[TC5] Road Roller

Great work! The hauler was my first AFOL set, so I still have a special fondness for it. As it was for some time my only set, I also derived some one set MOCs from it. But I never succeeded to really implement interesting mechanisms, due to the lack of gears. So what you achieved here is really great. I also like the pushrod mechanism, even if its looks can be debated. Bit it's certainly a good addition to playability and overcomes the fiddly action of the battery box switch. The steering looks like it's a bit slow to operate, but then this isn't the type of vehicle you use for having fun on curvy roads... The only critical point I can see is the optical balance between the blocky rear part and the somewhat empty front. But with the battery box inside, it seems hard to do this better. I think I will have a look at the instructions and probably build it.- 17 replies

Meet Pippa and Lucy! The two sisters came to us three years ago as little kittens. Their third sister Mila still lives with her mother Trixie at our friends' house. Pippa (old dark grey / black) is very cuddly and has a soft fur. She is open-minded and likes people visiting us. During the day she can spend hours on the balcony hiding between the plants or watching birds, people and falling leaves. Lucy (very light orange / medium dark flesh) is a bit shy. She doesn't like being carried around or held too tight. She has a good taste and likes espresso just as much as I do. When I've finished drinking she licks out my cup and even reaches to the bottom with her paw if there's some liquid left. Unfortunately they are not too fond of Lego, I guess it's because I get too absorbed with building and don't give them the attention they deserve. However they are always fascinated by remote controlled vehicles that move and make strange noises. What they really like about Lego is that sometimes I order stuff in large boxes that are perfect for hiding and tearing apart.

1H2015 Video Reviews
5imon replied to Sariel's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I can't wait for it! I'm especially looking forward to the arctic vehicle review. It must be a great source of orange Technic parts. I've already spotted 2 orange 7L liftarms, which is new in this color. I hope there will be other rare or new parts too. Since I don't have any large track links so far this is another reason to buy this set. -
Thank you for the welcomes. Showing some of the MOCs in the Technic forum might be a good introduction to the community. I still have one or two that were not already presented elsewhere. And maybe I can add the Citroën Kégresse I showed at techlug.fr, so also non-french speakers can read about it.

Actually the memory of my Lego beginnings is somewhat dim. There seems to be LEGO around for as long as I can remember, it was just there already. We had Duplo and regular Lego alredy as small kids. It must have started with sets like this one: The following two are sets that I can remember as birthday or christmas gifts, and they were for a long time my favourites: However, I was more often just building anything with all the bricks we had, not assembling the sets as they were intended. My other "first set" is the Technic hauler 8264 from 2009. It brought me out of the dark ages.

Hi everyone! My childhood days in the 70s and 80s were often filled with LEGO playing, building all kinds of vehicles, cities and towers together with my two brothers. Highlights of this era were definitely when I got the yellow knights' castle, and later the 8860 car chassis. From this time on, Technic was and stayed my favorite theme. Five years ago, a christmas gift from my wife revived me from my dark ages. It was the 8264 hauler, and here I was into Technic again. So deeply that my wife might sometimes regret this gift... In those five years, about 50 more sets have built up my collection, mostly technic and some creator, but others too. Plus the rare Technic parts in odd colors I like to buy on Bricklink. I mostly buy my sets for parts, although I always build at least the A-model. But I don't apply stickers and take everything apart sooner or later. For MOCing is my real passion. I like to combine this with my second big hobby which is everything around old Citroëns. I have already presented some results of this combination on other sites: http://mocpages.com/mocs.php?id=53146 http://www.techlug.f.../post89844.html Other projects are already in my mind and have passed various building stages, but nothing presentable yet. My third hobby which is music (playing piano and singing in a choir) is also taking a lot of time, so my building processes are rather slow and often interrupted for several weeks. I hope I will have a good time in this forum, make good contacts and get a lot of inspiration, as well as hopefully give inspiration to others. Best regards Simon from Switzerland
