Dress my Exo Suit Mini-challenge - Discussion thread

Hello SERVATOR, well let me ask you a question: What are you trying to achieve? Do you want most of the entries to be disqualified? I'm trying to figure out why would you do that... I believe that the rule saying 'the entry must consist of an Exo Suit' was to prevent people building whole sceneries or some other big object to boost the visual appearence. Including minifigure is pretty much minor detail and by the way, the easiest way to prove that your exo-suit is capable to fit minifigure is to place it in there. I wouldn't say that it is the rule violation. And even if it was not 100% correct, we are not in court are we? -

I wouldn't say that there were some gaps in rules. Bob stated clearly that only existing parts/colors are allowed for digital entries. It's only my fault that I relied on wrong source of informatin when checking for my parts existence. To keep it very fair I think even one single guy (Oky) who is not happy with posterior rules change is enough to prevent doing that. He followed the rules and I violated them (by mistake for sure but that doesn't change much). And I fully respect his claim. Kris -

Hello everyone. I'm glad to hear that you are all open minded and up to discuss different points of view. I have already said in my entry how grateful am I for having this challenge. I enjoyed building and I consider these hours of well spent time. Regarding the question of allowing LDD entries I think it's fair and nobody should feel harmed by that option. This challenge epsecially shows major disadvantages of LDD designing (it's struggle to make these joints in desired position) and I'd certainly end up building from real bricks if only I had this frame. It was also everyones choice whether to build in real or digital way so I think that from this point it can't be more fair. Non existing bricks is totally different issue and I fully accept the rule as stated in the challenge description. Buildability is very reasonable requirement which I never intended to break. On the contrary, I paid a big attention on that and I really thought I did my best to check for these error parts. Unfortunately I have chosen this BrickLink tool which is either not perfect or in still in development and I fully trusted the result that my model is buildable. I'd avoid using LDD Extended if only the brick pallete of the original theme was complete. If I could choose, I would much rather recolour my error pieces to match the original rule eventhough the result wouldnt look so neat - Not to have feeling of taking unfair advantage. But your solution os better perhaps since my entry is no the only with such a problem. Kris -

hello sweetsha. Im affrreid you are right. the tool is available on new MOC shop and it seems it does not work properly :( it showed me few alerts for non existing parts through my concepts but i got rid of them all. its sad because i really meant to avoid non existing parts at all. as it is now, my entry does not meet the rules. sadly, if i knew it earlier id have replaced all of these. -

Please name the parts. As I stated in the entry I used BrickLink tool for checking moc buildability. and however some parts resulted as rare pieces, all of them do exists due to the test. Thats all I can claim, I don't own these parts, perhaps I have less than half so i have no better evidence. -

Is it no use? I don't understand what do you actually complain on. I posted my entry yesterday (for me it was not the last day) because I simply have finished it yesterday. I only have time to do time for my hobbies at the weekend. -

With announcing The Simpsons theme, TLG has fulfilled my dream :) I'm as big fan of The Simpsons as of LEGO itself and this theme is what I was most excited of. Thus, when it came to the question 'what is my favourite theme to dress up the Exo Suit in, I had the easy choice. Theme choice was easy, execution was more tough. In my first concepts I was following the dogma that exo suit should look like some warmachine, mo matter which theme I build it in. My first attempts included something like autobot from pink SImpsons car, walking Simpsons house etc. - all of them with guns, swords, cannons and war look. Unfortunately, none of these sketches satisfied me and I abandoned my attempts for few days. Then I luckily got an idea (right after purchasing last 6 missing collectibles :D) to build not some evil warmachine but nice Exo - Homer! I don't have some cool bacground storry for this mech... Maybe it's some of those crazy inventions made by prof. Frink :D It doesn't have reasonable spot in The SImpsons universe, but who cares? :) I'm quite happy with the final design, however the Exo Suit frame was setting up huge limmitations (everyone who tried to dress his own knows that). Eventhough The Exo-Homer is not a warmachine, it's still able to throw these giant donuts so you better watch out! :D I tried to build it with respect to stability and rigidity, which is sometimes easy to forget when building digitally. The creation is tested on MOC-ability via BrickLink MOC Shop. All used parts does exist** eventhough some of them are not that common in given colors. (I'm not sure about that green alien sitting in the cockpit but he is there just to show it can actually fit a minifigure) That's all I have so I hope you like it :) For bigger images please visit my flicker photo stream (https://www.flickr.c.../127695176@N03/) As a conclusin I would like to give my thanks to the mods for making this challenge. I'd have never tried something like that on my own and it was great building experiance. I have to say that designing such a thing in LDD is somehow unfriendly because of all these 3DOF joints. Those who were building in real took a big advantage in this case. Anyway, it was fun and I see great entries above from both real and digital world - GOOD JOB! And congratz to anyone who has accepted this challenge :) **EDIT: Just now I noticed some interesting rendering glitch. If you look at Homer's donuts, you can see these round plates with hole having some inner stud holders in the hole. Nothing like that is visible in LDD, only rendering program has created it. Anyway, It was supposed to be normal Plate, Round 4 x 4 with 2 x 2 Hole -

[LDD MOC] 71,000 piece, 13-foot Super Star Destroyer
Kristof replied to Fox Hound's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I agree. There have been few massive lego models like this one already and I have never heard of some material help from TLG. Actually, I know only Sean Kenny to be cooperating with them, however I'm not sure how closely. On the other hand, there are some instances of (unofficial) lego stores funding some big models which are displayed on their ground. But I don't know any closer information so maybe it's not the best way either. -
Hello vc! This is really ambitious project. The size you picked is huge. I'm just wondering, do you plan to ever build this in real? As many guys said already, there aren't any supporting frame structures, so far, I think that only your landing gear would hold together. Everything regarding cockip and the entrance corridor looks extremely fragile and I'm 100% sure that it couldnt hold its own weight. Otherwise it's really cool and detailed. And the speed of your progress is mind blowing - I hope it's not the result of no care about structural elements. kris

Thanks Markus! Thank you manx! Hello, first of thank you very much for suggestions. I'll take it one one by order. Lucrehulk was always my dream. The problem is that it's huge. It's mass (volume) Is about 10 times bigger than Venator. That is way to big for what I can design now, either because of lack of time or lack of skills. There are 2 Lego models of this amazing spacecraft matching this scale pretty well, made by master builders Thomas Benedikt and Paul Yperman be sure to check them out: http://mocpages.com/moc.php/23078 http://mocpages.com/moc.php/188701 For me, building such a thing remains just a dream, at least for now :) The other suggestions are much more realistic and to be honest, I already thought of both of them. I think I'll have banking clan Recusant-class destroyer done as first following - already made some progress on this one. With Acclamator, I still havent solved the hull design. This ship is already pretty small in given scale and it's hard to reach some satisfactory shape. Nevertheless, I have this one in my midn too.
-
Trying to follow the goal which is to keep each ship in scale to the others. I think it could provide the best playability and jo: Of course it brings some limmits though. That Home one is actually good idea. Not many of them were built so far, especially in given scale. That matches my effort to pick subjects which are not that common among MOCs.
-
SSD in this scale would be the biggest ever made of LEGO I guess :) I design my models with some realistic plan of building them in real so I have to stay in rational size :D Home one is "only" about 3 times longer than Venator thus should be more realistic :D I'll consider if it's within my power to build it. Thank you for the suggestion!
-
Haha, glad to hear that. Do you have any specific suggestion for another ship to be designed in this scale?
-
Thank you! This is all designed in LDD using extended mode. Editing was made in Gimp since I stil haven't managed to get Photoshop :D

Hello everyone! It's been a while since I made post about my MIDI-Scale starships featuring on LEGO Ideas. Lately, I finished this new image showing them in this epic combat from the very beginning of the Episode III. Considering my poor skills in image editing I'm quite satisfied with the result. You can find more info on MOCpages (http://mocpages.com/moc.php/396361). More images and informations about both ships can be found here: MIDI-Scale Invisible Hand https://ideas.lego.com/projects/71409 MIDI-Scale Venator Star Destroyer https://ideas.lego.com/projects/74229 Thank you for stopping by and special thanks to everyone who bothers with giving a support! Happy building!

Aww... real lego only rule kills me. I don't have enough bricks with bionicle joint to build the frame :( -
Thanks markus. Im big fan of your MOCs. I don't know as if you have any project on Ideas but anyway, I invited you to new MOCpages group about LEGO Ideas. Would be glad if you joined. Krištof
