LEGO in Film & TV: Index of Appearances
Modelmaker replied to Izzy's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I watched an episode of modern family the other night (the one where Phil tries to sell his old station wagon) and as Phil was clearing the garage he fell backwards knocking over a pile of junk and was showered in Lego from a box on a high shelf. -

I still have the basic instructions it was based on. it's in the Technic ideas book 8889 from 1984 page 100 http://bricks.argz.com/ins/8889-1 but mine was altered to use the bigger train motor and battery box from set 182. bigger and heavier to insure a K.O. on the first hit I had the perfect imprint of the base of which ever piece did the damage, all the little circles and the sharp 90 degree corner that did the damage. I really wish someone would have caught it on camera

When i was younger i built a technic cable car and ran a cable (cheap string) from my bedroom window 3 floors up down to a tree in the back yard. The cable car ran on and old 4.5v train motor and had to carry one of the old square battery boxes with 3 batteries inside. It ran great for a few weeks. I'd set it off from my bedroom and run down to yard in time to catch it and switch it in reverse and send it back up again. It even ferried packages back and forth, great fun. Until it's last run down to the yard. As usual i ran down to meet it and was standing under it looking up when the cable snapped, probably from wear and tear. Either the motor or the battery box caught me full force on the forehead and i ended up with 7 stitches. I never rebuilt it after that

My oh-so-controversial thoughts on The Lego Movie
Modelmaker replied to Bennemans's topic in Community
The one thing that destroyed the movie for me was Will Ferrell. I can't stand the guy, as soon as his face showed up i was over it. I watched the dvd i bought once and can't bring myself to watch it again. That guy really make my skin crawl. If i had have known he was in it i wouldn't have bought it. And him playing a dad is just too creepy to watch. -

Im just out of my dark ages and i went through my local classified add sites looking for lego bulk lots, we have one site where you can make an offer on what the person is selling and i go on there and offer less than half price on lots of different adds. most sellers politely decline my offers but a few accept and i end up with a cheap lot of bricks. The last lot i bought was 20kg for €150. the box was full of old batteries and diecast cars and other non lego junk but i managed to resell some of the junk on ebay and made back around €60 and still had lots of parts to play around with. it took about a week to sort all the bricks and wash all the sticky ones (eww) and moon sand is a real pain to get out off the bricks but then i had the fun of trying to work out what sets i had mixed in the new lot. I love how the stickers on some sets have the set number on them. I ended up with 26 nearly complete sets and 6 non complete sets from that lot. about 7 where big sets like the city garage, fire and police stations and so on. It's a totally random way to buy your bricks but it's cheap and fun trying to figure all the sets out. I also ended up with a lot of big lego parts that i don't need like ship hulls and plane cockpits so i'll probably but them on ebay in a while and use the cash for parts i know i will want.

Just pulled my 182 out of the attic tonight. I got it when i was 3 or 4 years old (in '75 or '76) it was my first Lego set and it was well played with in it's time put it looks like most of it's parts are still there. I signed up for an account on bricklink and made a wanted list for all the parts needed to restore it and they have all but one part (signal post). I'm just out of my dark years and this is going to be the first set i restore. Just need to figure out how to use bricklink properly I'll post a pic if anyone's interested

mineralised Methylated spirits on a cotton bud. Rub over once to soak the glue and wait a few seconds then rub again to remove the glue.

yes i want to do some nice ropes but i'm all out of enough tiles in on colour to do the floors. These sets have been officially retired from playtime for over 20 years now they've earned their rest so i'll let the dust do the talking. There's a lot more sets so the museum is saving up to pay for an extension. ARGH!! NO! keep the pickers away, they're only in it for the money not the love

The newest building in my city is a museum, but this museum is all about the local history. The building itself is a bit boring but that's because all the money has gone on the exhibits inside. The sign on the roof gives a clue about whats on show inside.. A walk around the back reveals a vintage helicopter mounted on the roof and some weird old windows When we open the door we get a view of whats on offer inside.. Finally we get to see all the old dusty exhibits. That's 40 years of history on display inside and maybe one day the exhibits will be on display in a much bigger and grander museum, but for now this little boring building will have to do

Like that part but the slider bit is wider.. Found it, this is the top rail the bottom one faces up http://www.bricklink...tem.asp?P=30586 Edit: or maybe they are both the same? or looking at it again, you could narrow the couch by one stud and move everything over and extend the wall giving you room to swing the normal door outwards.

I like it. I make a lot of model caravans to sell to circus/fairground model makers (non Lego) For that corner bedroom door you could try using a sliding door on the out side which would give you more room on the inside for for some more furniture. I can't find the parts i mean on bricklink, but it would be a 8x1 plate with a piece attached that the door slides in. you need 2 off them.

Plate "warp" when building large area
Modelmaker replied to Jan_sh's topic in General LEGO Discussion
like this part http://www.bricklink.com/search.asp?q=3865 they are about 1/3 the thickness of normal plates. the underside has dimples that studs don't fit into. And i don't mean pound them just a tap will do and a rubber mallet won't harm the plates. -

Plate "warp" when building large area
Modelmaker replied to Jan_sh's topic in General LEGO Discussion
try using the smaller size baseplates that are like the large 32x32 plates with no connectors underneath (I don't know the proper name for them) either that or a rubber mallet to bang on them on a flat surface (steak tenderizer) -
How to preserve Lego colour on display?
Modelmaker replied to Darkoil's topic in General LEGO Discussion
My "display" room has the windows permanently blacked out. I collect more than just Lego and have had some valuable stuff destroyed by the sun in the past. I used limo black car window tint film and backed it with foil and covered it over with blackout blinds. My cars also have the windows blacked out in case i'm transporting anything. The display room is now known as the vampire sanctuary by my family -
Ha ha... the mustache is perfect Or so I've heard

Well things have been going well at Heat and the management have finally been able to finish off the refurbishment of the old building. The upper facade has been fully restored to it's former glory... The whole exterior has been given a fresh coat of paint... The empty bottles are stored out back but there is still a small rat problem... A brand new lighting system has been install to light up the stage area... And a new resident D.J. has been hired.. Jake and Elwood have returned to entertain the crowds. The derelict upstairs space has also got a new makeover and is now a space available to rent for private functions. Tonight is a 40th birthday party and everyone has come in fancy dress.. But there's always someone who goes that little bit over board with the costume No idea how they got up those stairs

Todd McFarlane tries to make "construction" toys.
Modelmaker replied to legoman19892's topic in Community
I mostly do models for museums and architects some for various military forces. Our workshop is just around the corner from some film/tv studios so we do sometimes have to help them with their models and props when they get to busy to handle the workload. You may well have seen some of our work, but the whole point of movie/tv models is that you don't notice them. Lately we've done stuff for The tudors, game off thrones, vikings, and some vampire related show... i forget it's name because i don't really watch any off that type of stuff. we also do stuff for adverts but they are very locally based. The last big screen sci fi movie i can remember doing stuff for was space truckers and that was about 20 years ago and i don't think it was that popular. I would expect the new stuff to be supplied unpainted because most builders would prefer to do their own painting. I'm talking modular scale. The only model production company (as in completed accessories like cars, people, animals and so on) that i can think of that work any where near 1:35 would be Britians and they do 1:32 scale stuff but mostly only farm related stuff. The older lego system/city stuff would have been closer to 1:43 scale which is one of the most popular sizes available in the modelling world.- 35 replies

Only getting more jealous now I actually priced how much it would cost me to travel to the nearest store to me but it would be cheaper to buy a new modular set so i'll just do that instead
