ROYAL screw up - can I recolor black Lego parts?
Modelmaker replied to earl9371's topic in General LEGO Discussion
There is a way but not recommend if you have never done it before. and it involves harmful chemicals. Basically you need a liquid glue like MEK or Poly weld and you paint the brick or part The glue melts the top layer an reveals the colour underneath. But you have to do it quick and not apply to much glue or you risk melting or warping the part. It takes a lot of practice to get it right. -

What about captain jacks ship or a face of Bo tank -
OK that is sad But I see that one of the things on his bucket list is to ride an Elephant. Many of my friends are elephant trainers (don't ask) So I have emailed all of them the site to see if any of them can help. Hopefully one of them will step in and help him cross that off his list.

Yeah that's the other bit that bugs me but not as much as the arched frames, I could make glass to fit those narrow opes but it would probably have to be glued to stay in and i don't really want to do that. Technically it is a custom part, but it is a part that should exist already so it's more like a forgotten part. I don't normally make my own parts but that's how much it was bugging me. I didn't realize the cinema had the same problem but those gold lattice parts really suit it. The cinema is on my to buy list so it looks like i will need to save some glass for that. BTW you can fit both the glass and a lattice into one frame, One piece either side. I suppose if enough people where interested in getting them he could be persuaded that it might be worth it. But I know him and the kind of price he would charge per piece would be just stupidly greedy. There isn't really a file, like i said i just scanned in a lattice part and traced the outside edge including the 3 dimples then cloned it 20 times and hit go on the laser. Our machine is nearly 15 years old and so is the connected PC and it uses some sort of Jurrasic CAD program and to be totally honest if I can make it work a 2 year old could probably do it in half the time. Infact my much younger workmate could have drawn up the shape in one click without having to scan the piece first. And i Didn't save the file because that could be considered evidence

These where just cut from a scrap piece i took out of the scraps bin so had no protective plastic on, but we have had problems in the past burning with the plastic on sometimes it sticks to the part leaving bits stuck permanently to it. Also depending on the manufacturer the protective stuff can give of poisonous fumes so it's always removed first. I just had an idea Maybe i should put these on the Lego Ideas site

Perspex is plastic. 1mm thick I only made 20 of them so far. Not to sure how the boss would react if i started making loads of them to sell. As you can probably see in the pic above, the laser burn slightly mists the edges of the window so each one has to be polished afterwards. Not sure i'd like to polish hundreds of these things.

Lasers We have a laser cutter in work, I scanned the lattice piece that fits the frames then had the laser cut the same shape but in perspex.

I really like the petshop set but one thing has been bugging me since i built the set. The top floor windows have no glass, Lego doesn't even make the glass to fit those frames Just look at those empty frames, to me they ruin the look of the building So the other day in work I made these.. Now I'm happy with the set I just wonder why don't Lego make the glass? They took me 10 minutes to design and make So come on Lego what's the deal?

Listing pulled and still getting questions about it. I know a guy who only deals in this brand of models so i'll be bringing it to him and his decision will be final enough for me. The listing had tons of close up pictures from all angles and close ups on any damaged sections, it's always better to point out the flaws than to try and hide them.

OK I'm back up and have sent the high bidder an explanation of the situation (he has to agree to retract his bid according to the rules) Here's the link, but please don't bid http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=281429191258 This auction is getting pulled very soon
-
The problem is it's not only him, there's been a few offers, Very tempting yes, but i have never accepted any of those kind of offers before and am not about to now. sometimes i get more than was offered and sometimes less. But in this situation i feel i have to end the auction. I initially listed it as just another old toy car but the reaction it got was crazy. I've since done some searching on the net and it is very rare, so rare that copies have been made in the past. The real version is a factory error and very few of the car where released with black seats when it should have red seats. It's an open top car and the seats can be removed very easily and replaced with fake copies. So most of the questions (even by the highest bidder) are about the seats. If it is a real version that's great but all these guys making offers and asking questions appear to experts in this brand of model (judging by their buying and selling histories) so if I end up selling a fake for real money that's going to come back on me hard and because of my other model type listings it will look like i made the fake. Which i could if i felt the need, but i don't like fake stuff. I have a few collections of different stuff and so far considered everything to be original "factory" issue stuff. This stupid car has even got me doubting it now. Ebay is about thrust and right now i can't thrust what i'm selling. I bought it at a toy fair years ago (about 25) so i have no proof of it's history. But there are rules for ending early and i have never needed to read them, if i end early and whoever at ebay see's i got offers to end early in my messages How's that going to look? Right now i can't read those rules so i'm stressing out here.

OK! phew! I didn't break it someone else did. Still can't get in from here though.

Not possible at the moment, and I'm not sure i want to draw any more attention to it for now.

This morning i had about 50 or 60 unanswered questions After only about 8 hours of it being listed I'm guessing some kind of overload or something. Last email from ebay was around 1:52pm my time and i havn't been able to log in since then it's now 8:26 and still nothing. A lot of the unanswered Q's where offers to end it early. One offer was near £2000. I'm thinking it may have drawn some attention and if i end early it looks like i've accepted an offer.

I'm guessing this is not the right place to ask but i'm in a bit of a jam here and need advice. recently i started to list stuff again on ebay to get some extra cash to feed my lego habit. I collect diecast cars and have a few thousand of them so time for a little clear out. I picked out a few to list and listed the first one last night. This morning i woke up to tons of questions and a few crazy offers from some user to end it early. Turns out it's a rare model possibly worth a few thousand pounds. But it also turns out it may be a fake There is already bids on it but now i really just want to end it and have the model checked by some kind of expert. I don't want it to go for a crazy price and then it turns out it is a fake. But now i can't even get into my account, been that way for a few hours now. I've never ended an auction early and don't want anyone to think i accepted a bid outside of the auction. I really just want to stop the auction but how can i do it without breaking any rules?

I use these little boxes for small parts.. They came from my local printers, they are the boxes they use to pack business cards they have printed. But i had to buy a full box of 144 for €80 but that works out to about .55cent per box They also have bigger boxes to pack leaflets which are about 4 times the size of the card boxes So check your local printers to see if they have anything similar

Not sure if this topic is relevant on here, but if it's not please delete. I'm just wondering if there are any trading card collectors on here My uncle used to be the manager of the Topps candy company back in the 1980's and whenever he came to visit he always brought a large bag (think garbage bag) of candy and packets of trading cards with a sticks of gum in them, and of course we kids used to love him for it. our school books, bedroom doors and even our parents car windows where plastered with stickers from the same company. The reason i ask is because i recently re-found a box full of old trading cards and stickers in the deepest depths of one of my cupboards, i had totally forgot they where there but while looking for some old Lego i found them. My question is.... is there still any value in old trading cards? is worth my effort to list them on ebay? The kind of stuff i have is more orientated to the american market so i guess i'm looking for american collectors for advice. Just to give you an idea of what i have here is a list Micheal Jackson Garbage pail kids Wacky packages Gremlins Thunderbirds/captain scarlet/stingray Classic cars Sega games And some baseball/football cards Just to be clear..I'm not on here to try and sell any I'm just looking to see if there are any collectors who know if they are worth anything or not. Also some of them are factory samples and not yet cut into individual cards (if that makes a difference)

Cheers Smoothbit. I really liked your MOC, i used to have friend that lived in a very similar house to the one you built so i know the type of architecture and how big it is in real life and there is no way it should be larger than the cinema or the grand emporium . The problem is my normal (boring) day job is as an architectural model maker and I'm finding it hard to deal with this weird squashed Lego scale. From the pics you posted of your real house I can build a true to scale model (not in Lego) of it in any scale but my brain can't make it fit with the modular stuff and still have all the interior details. I guess the main problem with the Lego system Is they using an unnatural ratio of 1 is to 1.8 rather than the golden ratio of 1.6 ( google "golden ratio" for an explanation) the Lego new buildings are just not natural but the vintage lego parts are at the 1.6 ratio. I've already squashed my house as much as i could and it just looks wrong in my eyes so i'm going to have to undo the squashiness and build it to the right proportions just to make it look right in my eyes, It will just have to be displayed separate from the modular stuff. I'm just waiting for my next brick link order to arrive so i can start on version 2 of the build. At the moment i have no pictures of the real house but i will take pictures soon so then maybe you can see how far of the current proportions are. Having said all that i really have to congratulate the Lego designers for designing such good looking buildings in such a weird scale or ratio, i really have no idea how they made such large looking buildings so small.

It was a great build but i have already striped it for parts, all that's left is the statue and the crane because i like them so much, but some parts have been stolen from the crane. You can see in the pic above bits missing from the rear of the cab. Any stuff that i like normally ends up in one of my glass cabinets, but at the moment they are all full of the models i like to display (non Lego) so i'll have to either make another cabinet or sell off some models.

€81 is still a good deal, they are still in the shops here for €99

I don't mind, it's not a secret I bought 7 sets from a classified add for €125 60026 Town Square 60012 4x4 & Diving Boat 3221 City Truck 60019 Stunt Plane 31003 Red Rotors 3366 Satellite Launch Pad 7741 Police Helicopter Town square, diving boat and police helicopter where still sealed, the others had been assembled and repacked into ziplocs. I mainly only wanted the city truck but the guy wouldn't split it from the others so i just bought the lot. It felt like a good deal anyway.
