I always keep my set's boxes. . The reason why is that occasionally, I will resell a set that is 1-3 years old, if it has a really good resell value. I've noticed that I typically get approximately 20-25% more $$$ when I have the box. I actually have ended up "borrowing" a friends attic space for storage, so I have space for a good deal more sets . Sirius

Wow, that is a really high markup! I typically see 10-20% max, but that is like 25-30 percent! I always buy through other stores, or eBay. The Hogwarts Castles on eBay typically are about $115 USD, though i got mine for $100 w shipping .

I think that there is already a very similar, if not identical, topic here.

What's your favorite LEGO license theme so far?
Sirius Black replied to BrickMonster MonsterBrick's topic in LEGO Licensed
I think that we could already have guessed that based on your username . And i think that you should have a good indication of mine based on my username . Although Batman and PoP are close seconds, you simply can't beat Diagon Alley or Hogwarts Castle. Sirius -
Not nessecarily, some of the more recent sets (Quidditch Match and the upcoming Forbidden Forest) do contain a hefty amount of figures. Regarding the sets,I could easily see the Ministry of Magic, the DADA or Potions classroom, and parts of Hogsmeade as official ones. I'm guessing the following number of figs per set price range (in USD) $10: 3-4 figures $20-40 3-5 figures $40-$80 5-7 figures $80+ 7-12 figures Personally, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a Hogsmeade Village set. Harry Potter Winter Break Contest Voting Thread
Sirius Black replied to Hinckley's topic in LEGO Licensed
Just to let you know, you have 5 votes. There is a max of three votes for a specific entry. -
When you try to convince relatives to drive 4-5 hours to visit Lego stores for you. When you store your books in your closet and your sets on your shelves. When you spend hours calculating where you can fit your latest acquisition. When after spending hours, you fail to find any space at all . When the value of your lego collection exceeds the value of the house it is located in (not quite there yet )

Yess!!! I'm glad that they may be releasing more sets, three seemed like a rather small production line. How soon can we expect preliminary images of the three that we know about for sure?
-
I just checked Brickset, and the top news link states that there are indeed quite a haul of new HP figs. The three sets have appx 15 figs, and half are estimated to be new. Im looking forward to some pics. With 6-7 new characters, who can we expect? I am hoping for Sirius and Remus myself. Sirius

WINTER BREAK ENTRY: Ministry of Magic: Magic is Might
Sirius Black replied to Sirius Black's topic in LEGO Licensed
Thanks for the comments about the action shot, I wasn't quite sure about it. About the back, I had wanted to do the side arches, but there was no way I could do that with the available parts. I had about 400 bricks with which I had to finish the towers, statue, and figures, so I was really crammed as iit was. I would much have preferred a 1500 brick limit, but I'm satisfied and pleased with the way this turned out. Sirius I -
Good! Maybe some of us will get a better chance at winning . Siriusly, this is definitely in my top three so far, the interior is absolutely incredible, and when i first saw the exterior, Hogsmeade is what first popped into mind. You did a great job capturing the roof, and the detail is amazing! Good Luck in the contest! Sirius

My entry is up, and the finished product is now uploaded. Enjoy! If you have any critiques/comments, i would appreciate them.

WINTER BREAK ENTRY: Ministry of Magic: Magic is Might
Sirius Black replied to Sirius Black's topic in LEGO Licensed
I know, that was the one of the two main things i wanted to do. I am unsure if i want to continue it, as my Fire Brigade looks like it went through a war . It got raided pretty heavily for parts. Anyway, glad you like it! -
Exclusive Train 10219 Maersk Train (Exclusive 2011)
Sirius Black replied to paul_delahaye's topic in LEGO Train Tech
"Jaw drops" This is absolutely spectacular! I do believe that it will be expensive though. With this and the Emerald Night, i just might get into trains! Lego really pulled out all the stops on this, its better than the EN. When does it come out? I may have missed it if someone said. Sirius- 379 replies

WINTER BREAK ENTRY: Ministry of Magic: Magic is Might
Sirius Black replied to Sirius Black's topic in LEGO Licensed
Finished model uploaded. Enjoy! -
Excellent work! I absolutely love the exterior patterning, it looks like it would blend right in with Hogsmeade! Great technique on the door, i always struggle with the angles on those. The only thing that i would do differently is give the roof some overhang. It looks slightly strange not protruding at all. Good Luck in the contest! Sirius

WINTER BREAK ENTRY: Ministry of Magic: Magic is Might
Sirius Black replied to Sirius Black's topic in LEGO Licensed
Thanks! The brick limit is frustrating at times (you can see what I did with the flooring) but I should be able to complete the model. I am estimating 300 bricks more for the towers. I may continue it, but i am starting work on parts of a full-scale (yes, full scale) Hogwarts. Naturally, i haven't been able to get much done, but i may upload it in a week or so. I appreciate all of the comments that all of you have made about this. Hopefully the final product will be up within the week. When i upload the final model, should I edit my first post, or just add a post onto the thread? Contest moderators, please advise me on this. Sirius I -
And why not? It would certainly be amusing... Are you sure? Sirius

This is absolutely Spectacular! I have never seen a Hogwarts get as far along as this one has. You had better finish it! If i had the money, i would buy this! It is absolutely amazing! How many parts does it have now? Sirius (the first one)
-
And it will continue.. Actually, i was going to try to coordinate our profile pictures. What do you think, long-lost brother of mine? Sirius (The original, not the duplicate)

The Ministry of Magic: Magic is Might I have finally finished the model, and hope that you enjoy viewing it as much as I enjoyed building it! Final piece count is 976. To start off, this is based on the scene from Deathly Hallows where the trio has managed to break into the Ministry, steal the locket horcrux, and is now trying to get out through the floo network, while being pursued by dementors and Death Eaters. To start off, lets provide a reference shot of what i was designing. The focus of this model was on both the statue and the two office towers. The only thing i did not design was the Wizards on the top of the statue, it just didn't work out well with the piece count. This is definitely a lot to work with! For WIP shots go to the following link http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=458648 And now for the finished model! We'll start out with an action shot of the trio racing for the floo network, death eaters hot on their heels, and dementors hovering nearby. You can see the statue in the background. Run, Harry, Run! Now, from a different angle. Harry precariously holds on to the locket, while Hermione narrowly avoids a spell fired by a death eater. It strikes the floor, sparking a small explosion. A hapless citizen is shoved aside by the death eaters pursuing Harry, while Dementors swoop down. And now for a wide-angle shot. You can see the two office segments. These took up the bulk of the bricks of the model, and getting the windows right took a while, as did the roofs. you can see the same death eater knocking over another citizen. Poor guy, he looks worried. But, anyone would be in his place, so we'll just move along And the final image. You can see a reporter from the daily prophet snapping an image that will make the Daily Prophet's front page tomorrow. "Potter and Co strike again!" So, that's the model! I hope that you enjoyed it, and also hope to get a few votes (come on people, lets say 51% , just joking, its up to you) in the contest. Enjoy! Sirius.

Ah, excellent! That settles my problems easily. But did I detect a hint of sarcasm in your statement . Does this have any backing to it, or is it just the main two walls?
-
Oh Wow! If i wasn't designing my own Ministry of Magic entry (my entry's better ), then this would be what i would vote for. I have seen very few entries that have the same distinctness and great looks as yours does. It is immediately identifiable, and is a near-perfect replica of the shop in the movies. Does it have interior? Even if not, it still is great, and i hope that you do well in the contest! Sirius

Well, i never imagined that the piece count would be such a difficult obstacle. I am about 2/3 done with my creation, and only have about 400 bricks left, but the part that is left is very difficult. I will be posting my wip model shortly, and hopefully will finish entirely by the end of the week.
