  1. One other thing it has the the photos don't show it that not only is the undercarriage hinged to allow it to tail sit, but it is weighted too so that when it is in the air, the rear wheels on the main undercarriage hang lower than the front ones. Also - it is tail heavy, so it naturally tail-sits, but if you want it on all wheels, the technic flap behind the cockpit lifts up to allow you to add a weight - an AA battery fits perfectly!
  2. That'll be because I'm of the same vintage!
  3. Why thank you! I was totting up the hours the other day - about 200 I reckon. I think if Lego ever did one, they would have to make a new brick for the nose, I've seen lots of Lego Concs and its just impossible to get it right - I had 7 designs for it at one stage!
  4. Hi folks. I wasn't sure where to post this - I didnt put it in Lego town because its not minifigure scale (I wish)! Anyway - here's my attempt at the beautiful, enigmatic and sadly missed Concorde. https://www.flickr.c...57648909864872/ For anyone interested in the finer technical points of this model, I would point out 3 features. 1. Smooth surfaces on ALL sides of the engine pods 2. Strong accurate scale wing composition and shape 3. Round Fuselage This was achieved by building these substructures in 3 separate dimensions. 1. Engine pods, from the fuselage outwards (X axis) 2. Wings, nose and tail from ground up (Y axis) 3. Main fuselage from rear to front (Z axis) Seamlessly melding these substructures was overshadowed in complexity only by designing the nose and tail to form asymmetrical cones from a cylinder. Comments and questions welcome.
  5. OK - To steer it back on topic - YES KIDS WOULD BLINKING LOVE IT!
  6. Indeed - If I hadn't read it and considered the issues, I would still be telling others that TLG is a bit weird. Now I think its important that they don't. Yes, I'm sure they've been a bit hypocritical at times, and I'm sure there's probably someone alive who knew someone killed by a Sopwith camel, or a sword, or a crossbow. and indeed many more people who have been run over. I'm pretty sure that their stance is influenced by what happened to their country in WW2, probably more so than if they were a British company. The act of war is primarily based on destruction. The toy Lego is primarily based on construction. Kids that want to play at war, have the imagination to make bren guns from branches, Hand grenades from pine cones, and if the want to, they are free to make gas chambers from lego, the ability to bend it to their imagination is what fired us all up in the first place. When its so easy to do, and that is its USP, why be anything other than idealist in presenting kits of a tiny fraction of all world objects. It has always baffled me why some killing machines appear to be so aesthetically pleasing - probably a lot to do with aero/hydro dynamics / imposing powerful outlines. On religious buildings, that really is a bit of a travesty - some are soooo beautiful - but what can they do? - seems such a shame - kids could lean so much more about architecture/history/building techniques - I mean "Bricks"! FFS!(am I allowed to say that)? - it lends itself to educating about building techniques. I would like to see Lego including some educational material with their instructions - eg, "This ferrari F1 car was the last to have the engine in the front, because it was found that when the weight (the engine) was not all over the front wheels the car could steer better." or "the conrinthians stopped using this type of column because....."
  7. Yup - Fair cop! - All understood and accepted. - I will edit the original post. I would (probably will), of course, have posted in the buy sell area instead (when I am allowed). Anyway - a further note on Lego SR71s in general.... which might help the OP. - The thing that dictated the scale of mine was the engines. - you're kind of limited when if you want perfectly round - I see the op has taken a similar approach and scaled his model to have nice round engines. If you look at the larger ones - they all have to compromise on engine roundness and all went about it in different ways.. As for the red "dont tread beyond here" line. - I sacked it off. Even on the huge ones, I think it still looks too prominent traced in 1 stud wide tile. On the OPs smaller model, I would personally abandon it. - it dominates the model far too much. I did end up paying tribute to the red lines by including a large red plate on the internal structure. It is only just visible from the outside on a diagonal view between the wings and the fuselage - far less prominent than on the real plane. - good 4X12 red plate wasn't so easy to get hold of I can tell you! I love what you have done with tiles to get the corrugated skin affect. I was considering just tiling mine with flat, but I wanted to stick as close to scale as I could - and the SR71 has really thin wings. That, said, If I had thought of it, I might have conceeded to get the beautiful effect on your wings. - In fact, I would have painted 2 of the bars/ridges on the tiles in red, which would have given a scale red line. And would also have driven me mental!
  8. Bearing in mind my previous posts here, and having read all the comments, and had a bit of a think... I thought I'd add my twopenneth..... I had previously dismissed TLGs policy (I'd heard the founder was a pacifist) as a bit of a quirky curiosity.....(considering that for many of us, our first MOCs we something like a "brain-melting-planet-vapourizer")!!! NOW.... I am 100% clear in my total opposition to Lego doing any modern / recent historic military. This is best left to the MOC community, which I have no problem with whatsoever (do it myself). this extends to anything not "pc". As long as care is taken to keep such material away from the innocent, searching child. I have often thought that Lego might have stopped their MOC kit service because people were building and ordering highly innapropriate things which then arrived in boxes with a Lego logo on! I'm very glad I read this thread as it has formalised in my own mind, one of the reasons why am such a huge fan of Lego. And I will from now on, be mindfull of the risk of the eyes of the innocent finding any innapropriate material I create. We should all remember that our "medium" is that of a toy that is very popular with children.
  9. OK - Fair enough - I can see how it might look like that. But that is not the way I meant it to come across. Apologies if anyone esp OP is offended - OP - Yours is a good model -take a look how I solved the pointy nose problem. A better way BTW would be to use a triangular clip on road sign - it'll clip onto the black lightsabre nicely - they dont make one in black but you might be able to dye one. Its a lego forum, its a SR71 thread - My kit is an SR71 I'm pretty sure I would have got grief if I had started a new thread. TBH I get so much grief on forums from anyone I tell about my 10 kit run. - I'm seriously going off the idea of doing any other MOC kits. If you like it, - cool If you think its tat, say so - but please say why If you want to delete my 2 posts and ban me - by all means go for it! -Sorry to have a strop, but I'm a bit beyond caring now - and probably being a bit over sensitive
  10. I designed this one. http://www.flickr.co...157635260224964 Any feedback much appreciated
