  1. A. Mostly just a matter of personal preference. I don't use non-LEGO myself, though many good builders have. I also don't modify parts, because I find it a fun challenge to build using only LEGO parts, and because most modification is too permanent (I've got a rather large collection, but I still often find myself running out of parts I need a lot, so if I started cutting up my parts and stuff I would have less to work with from the original parts) B. I generally prefer to make my MOCs stable, so I can swoosh them around. Sometimes when I (attempt to) make bigger things, I don't care as much about stability since they won't have to move much. C. I never particularly liked any of the LEGO design software, so I almost never use it, unless I'm trying to figure out a technique that I don't have parts for so I know what to order. On occasion I draw stuff, but usually I just get a rough idea and start building from it, or a few times just taken a cockpit and started building parts onto it that seemed to fit well.
  2. I tried white and both bleys and a few cockpit color variations, but dark tan/trans orange was the one I liked best that I had parts for.
  3. Oooh 1x1 round tile... Might have to get at least the second. Lots of other good stuff too...
  4. I find it's usually cheese slopes or curved parts cracking. I've also got a lot of minifig torsos that cracked down the sides. This is why I almost never use non-LEGO approved connections, or at least ones that I've found proof doesn't stress the bricks in any way. It all seems to break something.
  5. Kinda disappointing that the visor for the space marine is printed on the face. Perhaps there might be a doublesided head though, and the other side is the face with no visor? Unlikely though... Still, I'll probably get about 30 of those. Also at least 5 or six knights, 2 or 3 bagpipers, a few hippies (I hope LEGO makes some more hippy-type figs, at least 1 geek, and Poseidon.
  6. After several other failed attempts at SHIP making (It's rather difficult), I've started on another one which I think I can probably actually finish. Sorry about the blurriness... Internal support structure When finished, the engine section (half circle on the back) will extend all the way down to the bottom area of the rest of the ship, while the bridge and perhaps airlocks will extend about 12-18 studs further to the front. Because of the large space taken up by the various support structures, there will not be room for an interior, though depending on how large the bridge ends up being, I might make an interior for that part so it can be seen through the large windows. Heavily inspired by the Millennium Falcon and several of the Republic battle- and transport ships, both from Star Wars. More updates probably coming tomorrow, or perhaps late tonight.
  7. Only about 1/10 actually fit into the categories.
  8. Thanks for the comments everyone. I got some similar parts in other colors, I might be making variants of this in different colors soon (Probably all with different weapons and engines and such so it isn't all the same)
  9. I've been reading a bit recently about the world's oil supply, and I found a few estimates that the oil supply will run out in a bit over 100 years (based on current usage rates/increase rates), so I started thinking. What's going to happen to LEGO (And other building block toys) when this happens? Since about 99% of LEGO's products are plastic based (pretty much everything except their video games, which would also suffer without LEGO being able to make more physical bricks, since they are based so much off of the real parts). Are there any non-petroleum based materials that they could use instead, which would still be compatible enough with ABS and the other plastics they use to not cause any major problem? Or perhaps would they move entirely into video games and stop making physical products? Any speculation/thoughts?
  10. Saw you there today (Nice videos)
  11. I might add a pilot, but I often don't get around to it. I've been trying to get my lighting to work recently, but I never manage to get it right.
  12. There seems to be a large ad box now on the left side of the frontpage. Is this supposed to be just for logged out viewers and somehow is now showing for logged-in users, or is it meant for everyone? It seems to have switched places from its old position to where the "navigation" menu once was, and has significantly increased in size (And is somewhat squishing the rest of the page)
  13. A heavily armed and armored attack fighter, named for the thick metal armor covering nearly all of the ship. It is armed with 2 light rapid-fire pulse guns, and 2 heavy cannons. An experiment in SNOT.
  14. Wonderful fighter "Stefan". Great SNOTwork all around. The cockpit area especially has nice angles.
  15. Not working for me either. It's not showing the same error message as when I click the ones saying need review (Because they don't have a forum number in the URL, just XXXXX), it just goes to the front page. I tried a few random others that didn't say "Need review" and they all worked fine. Perhaps it was somehow deleted and for some reason it isn't showing a message saying so?
  16. Might be better to lose from a price point of view, but based on that article (and 30 seconds of googleing) I don't think it will happen. The LEGO minifig seems to be legally protected from this sort of stuff. Just depends on how similar the BanBao figs are.
  17. Hire the neighborhood kids to help, pay them 25 cents/similar local currency if not in USA per hour, plus a bit extra for every pound sorted. (Check pockets when they finish though, you may find some "missing parts"
  18. Bricklink has a feature which may be of use: Bricklink wanted list
  19. If you could make a hinge of some sort which would press something against the brick to hold the button, that would probably work. It would probably be easier to use something like LifeLites or the LEGO PF LEDs. You could also use other LEDs, but it might be hard to find them in the exact size to be LEGO compatible. If you use your own LEDs, you could also make a circuit to make them flash or change brightness or other things (You might be able to do this with LifeLites, I don't know for sure)
  20. I think I heard the TARDIS, perhaps he was somewhat afraid of its potential ability to destroy the universe (or at least damage it) if something goes wrong? Well when an entire series is focusing on the main character dieing, and there have been hints in a previous series as to who killed him, which is later confirmed, the killer tends to get a lot of attention in the show. My guess is the Doctor will figure out some way to un-mind-control River, and together they destroy the Silence. Also at some point the Doctor and Amy and Rory start traveling again (In closing time, I thought it was kinda odd having Amy doing some perfume or whatever that was, doesn't really seem right somehow).
  21. I don't think it's very likely. Despite the many people that want interiors for these, I think there are far more that would prefer a completely new modular building. They might redo them in the future if they start to run out of ideas, but I think they've still got plenty of good ideas for more new sets.
  22. Does anyone have any videos they recorded of any of the presentations? I didn't get to go to most of those, and I found most of the powerpoints online but no recordings of any of the discussions and whatnot.
  23. Yep I'm going, since I live there. Not displaying anything though. Anyone know if there are going to be vendors, or just looking at the displays?
  24. Age: Rather not say Age you started building: 10 Country: USA Occupation: Student Married: No Children: No Does your spouse or child/children build: N/A Do you have close friends who build: Not "close" friends, but friends Do you build together with your friends: Not recently Do you regularly attend Lego conventions: Not yet (Planning on attending at least a few in the next few months though, not sure if it will work out or not) How much money do you spend on Lego product a year: Including gifts, probably around 2000-2500 dollars per year (No idea on just my purchases without gifts though) How much time do you spend building/playing a day: 7-8 hours on weekdays, most of the day on weekends Favored theme/themes: Space, Modular Buildings, Castle Do you primarily collect retail sets, build MOCs, or both? Both Did you experience a "dark age": No If yes, what age did you enter your "dark age": N/A What age did you exit your "dark age": N/A Other hobbies (other toy collecting, sports, drawing etc.): Just about anything with computers, making scientifically plausible versions of things from Science Fiction (TARDIS from Doctor Who, for example), model rocketry, video games In your own words what makes Lego bricks so special: Their ability to, when used by a good builder, be turned into wonderful, intricate, and beautiful designs May I PM you with a request for a personal interview: Sure Hope this helps
  25. What exactly is the point of being a VIP member when SAH and LEGO stores don't exist within the country, aren't those the only two uses of it?
