Hi @LegoMonorailFan, the current (original) cord is around 8cm. But the shortest PF extension cord you can by from S&H (at least here in Europe) is 20cm. So I had to deal with 12 additional cm's of quite a thick cord. I have now tried a little with the PF extension cord and I run into the foreseen problems. The cable is to stiff and would lead to derailment in certain situations. So for now I stick to the original cable. Hi @ColletArrow, yes this would be a solution, but see my answer above to @LegoMonorailFan: The cables are to stiff and won't work quite well in my case. Hi @kieran, thanks for your kind feedback. Hi @brickmasterben11, thank you too for your your kind feedback. Time is not so the issue, since this is a hobby and has no need to be finished in a short term. For me, this is a project over years. As you can see, my first post about this topic was on April 11. 2016, so more then a year ago. Money is a slight bigger problem, but since the slow pace, I have enough time to save money up in between. Space though could be indeed a problem, Lego consumes quite allot of space ... BR, Guenther P.s.: Now I have all the Parts ordered (a little over 5000) for the waterfall part (+tunnel portal, pond and stone walls) below the modified Tower Bridge. So I hope I could post an real life update soon... so stay tuned.

Hi @LegoMonorailFan, I meant that I currently have no idea on how to hide the cable inside the transparent tram. The short original cable is barely visible, but a 20cm (shortest version) long thick PF-cable would be seen from far away... BR, Guenther
-
Hi @LegoMonorailFan, thanks for digging into this and uncovering the picture. I'll give it a try. I just have to find out how to cover the 20cm long cable. BR, Guenther

Hi @LegoMonorailFan, Thanks for your kind feedback! Ah that is a great idea with the PF parts. But, I have a little concern: the PF cables tend to be quite stiff, and it may happen that they are to stiff and push the train out of the track in curves and on the ramp. Is this a real problem or not, I can't imagine. Did you already use such a configuration? If yes, did it work well? I mentioned this, because I had (still have though) such a problem with my Horizon Express and the cables running through it for powering the motors and the lights on both ends. Cheers, Guenther

Hy Guys, there is a new small update from my side. This time it is not a landscape/building update (but stay tuned for the next, I am currently ordering the parts for the waterfall and rock area) but a rolling stock. It is my version of a monorail modification of the tram of the set 60097. I bought this already with the intention to modify it towards the monorail track system. It took me some time to figure out how to do it. So here is the outcome (don't mind the tan and white slopes they will be replaced with gray ones): I have also done some pictures to enable you on recreating my version of the tram (since I didn't found a decent How To). You can find mine here: http://www.bricksafe.com/pages/tmctiger/mods/lego-60097-tram---monorail-modification-how-to The next task regarding the monorail is: find a solution on how the track should go through the town ... there I currently have no plan, but I promise you, the monorail will come to my town ... As always please leave me a comment what you like or dislike or what I could improve. Thanks and BR, Guenther P.s.: Brickshelf finally forced me to use another site. Suddenly it isn't possible anymore to upload a bunch of files with a zip-upload ... --> I am now using Bricksafe...

Yes ... it seems they fixed the issue ...

Hi @ColletArrow, Thanks for your kind feedback! Yes you're right @ locating the old fishing store, this is the reason that I try to create a remote like beach there. I know, the transition from the china town like Ninjago City, to the beach for the old fishing store might be quite "steep" but due to space constraints that's the only possible way. I have to test it in RL if it works at all. BR, Guenther

Hi @LegoMonorailFan! Thanks for your kind feedback! Hi @Capparezza, thanks for your kind feedback to! Yes the 45° angled pond looks different, but it is/was more unintentional the planned. The reason why the water is in 45° against the waterfall itself is, that the baseplates where the pond is built upon are also 45° aligned against the baseplates from where the waterfall originates. This comes from the 45° angled middle level. This is an image where you can see the 45° angle of the baseplates on the middle layer. The real deal, why the baseplates are angled, can also be seen on this image: on these baseplates also the track ballast was built, and it was way easier to angle the baseplates and built the ballast straight then keep the baseplates straight and build the ballast in 45°. And as you already said, this gives the thing a special touch. Yes this will become very crowded, but i prefer dense environments prior to more "sterile" layouts. BR, Guenther

Hy Guys, here is short update on the progress on my layout: I have now finished the waterfall refining and it is now ready to be built with real bricks. The preview rendering looks as follows: The yellow parts are the "interface" to the modified Tower Bridge shown before in this thread. So the yellow parts are parts already built in the bridge and the tunnel, walls and waterfall has to connect to. Currently I am in process of ordering all the parts (again approximately 5000 pieces, mostly due to the rigid building and strong back structure. The whole stuff is separated in five independent modules: the ground with the pond and grass, the tunnel, the stonewalls left and right of the waterfall, and the waterfall itself. So it is fairly easy to build the modules offsite and then just put them into position on the layout. There is another topic I am currently thinking about: incorporating the two new, sort of water based, buildings into the layout: the Ninjago city and the old fishing store. My first plan is to put them on the upper level (tan baseplates)of layout in the right corner just behind the street with a small surrounding water surface. And I have also found a place for my Haunted House ... it will be placed on the middle level (green baseplates) on a small rock (perhaps 5-7 Studs high) with a small path to it (and possibly the path will go all up to the upper level and the town itself...) Another thing I am currently thinking about, is the conversion of the tram of 60097: City Square to become a monorail compatible version. So this is it so far. I'll post an update as soon as I have some brick built version of the waterfall section. Please feel free to leave some comments on what you think about it so far. BR, Guenther

LDD: strange problem with groups
tmctiger replied to tmctiger's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Hi @Calabar, your tip worked like a charm. Thanks! I could restore my file to the vanilla condition without any groups. Btw.: LDD added 38629 groups in the file ... BR, Guenther -
LDD: strange problem with groups
tmctiger replied to tmctiger's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Hi @Calabar, yes you are right, deleting a single empty group is indeed no problem, but it seemed that my group hierarchy got corrupted and I ended up with thousands when not even more empty groups. due to this fact even deleting a single group will take up to 30 seconds ... Thanks for the tip that LXF is a archive. This will help me to solve the Problem. Many thanks for your input! BR, Guenther -
Hi Guys, I have a somewhat strange problem using the LDD. I did some search but couldn't find something about: Occasionally I use groups to groups some bricks together. And I occasionally delete the the bricks. And I often do not delete the grouping prior to the bricks deletion. And this seems to be the problem: LDD seems to be not able to handle this correct, the result is an empty group. Of course you can delete this group afterwards, but if you do this to often you end up with a huge (infinite?) amount of empty groups you can not delete. This wouldn't be that great problem, but the LDD considers these groups and suddenly needs a huge amount of RAM (a 4000 Brick LDD, usually 450MB of RAM consumption, suddenly consumes over 1.5GB) forcing the LDD to react very slowly when opening, saving the file and importing a model to this file (up to over a minute). --> so you end up with a somewhat corrupted LDD file you can't use efficient anymore. So my questions are: 1. Did anyone of you also have this problem? 2. Is there a solution to repair this file (e.g. loading the LDD into another CAD tool which ignores the groups and then reexporting it to LDD?) I you want I can upload the file in question later this evening. Thanks in advance and BR, Guenther

Hi Blackpool! Thanks! I am currently refining the plans of the waterfall. Since I have made some changes on the "interface" to the "Tower Bridge"-Module, I have to change some minor stuff on the waterfall. Once this is completed I'll order the parts (again a lot of pieces needed ) . BR, Guenther

Building my first city, need some advice please.
tmctiger replied to murtaughf3's topic in LEGO Town
Hi, your plan sounds quit good, but as @tkatt already said, you will need a lot of space (unfortunately LEGO is quite space consuming, especially when it comes to trains). I overcame the problem (I also do not have that much space for my layout) with a multilevel layout, where the train loops are spread over two different connected levels and also the city is spread over two levels and aground level with train station and freight terminal. If you are interested on how I did it, you can find my WIP thread of my layout here on Eurobricks and here on Youtube. So have fun planning your city and keep us up to date with what you came up. BR, Guenther -
Yes I also noticed this. And jep, let us keep the fingers crossed that it now finally works again after their downtime. BR, Guenther

Hi LegoMonorailFan, thanks for reposting my images! BR, Guenther

Yes please post the images for me, many thanks! Ah yes MOC pages. I'll also have a look on this site. Thanks for pointing out. BR, Guenther Hi, currently I operate the switches manually, but remote control is planned for the future (but I have no good solution so far for this problem). Currently I am running just kit trains (with minor modifications though here an there), but I have also plans for MOC-trains in the future. But for now the focus is on the layout itself. BR, Guenther

Hi, hmm I don't like Flickr since this is owned by Yahoo and that company doesn't attract attention due to their user security ... I don't want to find my login credentials sold in the darknet ... Anyway, in another forum I was pointed towards Bricksafe, and I most likely give it a try if Brickshelf make problems again. But to be honest, I'd like to stay on Brickshelf due to the simplicity of use and therefore I cross fingers that Brickshelf fixes their problems and starts working again without any problems. BR, Guenther
-
That's right! But for detailed Images not very useful, since a JPG with "normal" resolution often exceeds 0.08MB. In another forum I was pointed towards Bricksafe, I'll give this a try when Brickshelf makes problems again. But in general, I like the simplicity of Brickshelf and therefore I cross my fingers ... BR, Guenther

Hi Guys, But this is then equal to uploading an image directly to Eurobricks? And then it is under the constraint of 0.08MB total upload per post? Am I right. Hmm, this is strange since I can see the image behind the link, even when I am not logged into Brickshelf. That is even more strange. It seems that other people can embed the image behind the link, just I can't ... I just tried to add an (older) image to this post (an older image I already linked successfully in Eurobricks (http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/tmctiger/LLayout/Plans/alternativeLayout/WIP/ballast/small/small_img_9300.jpg) an it still doesn't work. Also the newer ones still don't work. I have now tried to insert the images as I always did with the "Insert other media" button and dropping the link just plain into the text box ... it didn't work anymore for me I don't believe this is a Brickshelf problem, since linking these images in other forums (1000steine.de and doktor-brick.de) just works fine. It seems to also make problems at doktor_brick.de: for me it works fine there, but some random users also can't see the images, other user on the other hand can see them ... thats very very strange. Perhaps something went wrong during the Brickshelf migration to another hoster? Has anyone contact to the Brickshelf guys so that they be aware of the problems? BR, Guenther
-
Hi, thanks for your feedback. Yes this is also one of my favourite shots. Btw.: inserting embedded links to images still doesn't work for me. I have no idea what went wrong here. BR, Guenther
-
Hy Guys, I have a very strange problem: I suddenly be unable to insert images with "Insert other media" - "Insert Image from URL". When I try so, the box just gets a red border and nothing happens. When copying the link directly in the box where I write my post, I get following Error message: "The link could not be embedded because there is no image at that URL." This is definitely wrong! There are jpg-pictures behind the links. For example this link: http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/tmctiger/LLayout/Plans/alternativeLayout/WIP/bridge/small/small_img_0045.jpg If you click on the link, you'll see it works perfectly, just the board software doesn't recognize it anymore?! Btw.: inserting images always worked for me just fine. I noticed the problem when posting an update in my WIP - Layout thread: As you can also see in this thread, inserting images always worked fine. I am now a little helpless and have no idea what I can do that this works again for me. Additional information: no recent changes to my computer system, I am using Firefox 53.0.2. (64bit) on a Windows 7 ultimate. I hope someone can help me or give me a hint how to fix this. Thanks in advance and BR, Guenther

Hi Guys, as promised, since Brickshelf is online again (sort of, zip file uploading still doesn't work ), here are some pictures of the current state of the layout: Unfortunately I have to post only the links to the images since Eurobricks tells me "The link could not be embedded because there is no image at that URL." However, if you follow the link you will see there are pictures there (and these links work well on 1000Steine.de and on doktor-brick.de, I don't know what's wrong with Eurobricks?! (perhaps a mod can fix this?) First of all a quick look under the construction which holds the Lego Store (60097) and the modified Toys'R'us and Pizza (7848 and 7641): http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/tmctiger/LLayout/Plans/alternativeLayout/WIP/bridge/small/small_img_0045.jpg And now here the platform with the stores and a little park n top: http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/tmctiger/LLayout/Plans/alternativeLayout/WIP/town2/small/small_img_0058.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/tmctiger/LLayout/Plans/alternativeLayout/WIP/town2/small/small_img_0087.jpg Here you can find a overview of the complete left part of the layout: http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/tmctiger/LLayout/Plans/alternativeLayout/WIP/town2/small/small_img_0069.jpg And this is the way I overcome the big blue wall on the detectiv office: http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/tmctiger/LLayout/Plans/alternativeLayout/WIP/town2/small/small_img_0071.jpg And here you can find a detailed image of the city wall behind the bridge (however without adjacent buildings): http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/tmctiger/LLayout/Plans/alternativeLayout/WIP/bridge/small/small_img_0006.jpg And last but not least some impressions on how a Minifg will see the town: http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/tmctiger/LLayout/Plans/alternativeLayout/WIP/streetlife/small/small_img_0094.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/tmctiger/LLayout/Plans/alternativeLayout/WIP/streetlife/small/small_img_0096.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/tmctiger/LLayout/Plans/alternativeLayout/WIP/streetlife/small/small_img_0099.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/tmctiger/LLayout/Plans/alternativeLayout/WIP/streetlife/small/small_img_0100.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/tmctiger/LLayout/Plans/alternativeLayout/WIP/streetlife/small/small_img_0101.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/tmctiger/LLayout/Plans/alternativeLayout/WIP/streetlife/small/small_img_0102.jpg As always, you'll find high resolution images in my Brickshelf-folder, once it is approved: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=569874 http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=569624 http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=569611

Hi Guys, I have now managed to integrate the modified Tower Bridge into my town. Therefore some pre work was necessary: first I had to shorten the street on the left side by a couple of studs, to get the Bridge some studs more to the left, to be able to connect the street later on the right side in 45° and be able to stay with this street as close to the layout level border. Second I added two houses to the city wall, and for that I had to construct a little platform to get a space on the same level as the city wall is. The platform walls are in the same style as the tower bridge is. And last but not least, I had do hide the blue front of the Detctive Office with a plant. Otherwise the front would have dominated the scene and that didn't look good. Unfortunately, I can't show you any pictures yet, since brickshelf is down due to some maintenance work. But I don't let you go without something to watch. So I have also made two videos, I'll like to show you instead (don't worry pictures will come as soon as brickshelf is up and running again): The next big thing I'll start to work on, will be the little pond with waterfall. It will be located under the bridge between the Ghostbusters HQ and train tracks. For now there is the little playground, which will be removed once the pond is ready to be constructed. As always I'd love to get some feedback from you guys! BR, Guenther
